Ghost as a band is heavy in their usage of lore for the back stories of their albums and their constant change of frontman characters...this song is based on the parties being thrown during the Black Plague, where people were dying at such a frequent pace that they would literally get together and throw crazy parties as if it's their last days on Earth (because it might be)...the story being told in the video is how the original Papa Emeritus came to be, and the woman he would later father a line of successors with (who would all later become frontmen for the band, as if it had been around for centuries and each generation would take up the mantle of Papa Emeritus similar to if the Pope were also part of a Royal Family and it was passed down)
I fell down the Ghost "hole" a week ago. Amazing music. Thanks for the informative comments. I'm learning alot. I should have known the Lost in Vegas crew would deliver.
I was sceptical of trying out Ghost. When Popestar came out, I was intrigued by the album art and listened to Square Hammer. The sound was very unexpected but I was already hooked by the second chorus. Been a fan ever since. The whole story around the band is crafted nicely and the songs are actually great.
I wish you guys had watched all of their videos up to this point. This video shows how the Papa came to be. All of their stuff is tied together. They also release shorts in-between which are hilarious.
13:08 that's an excellent analysis of Ghost as an artist, you were so on point George. I enjoy a lot of artists to whom this description is applicable. The singer Yungblud is a great example if this, there are pieces of David Bowie in his brand (he has a song with the title "Life On Mars") and one of his most recent songs Fleabag sounds exactly like a combination of Smells Like Teen Spirit, Heart Shaped Box, and Teenage Dirt Bag. I'd highly recommend it, it's incredibly catchy and is a great example of exactly what you were talking about George.
I agree! They did marathons for Zeppelin and Sabbath, but not Purple?! I believe they'll like them more than Zeppelin which they weren't all that enthralled over...

I love their continuing saga. This video is a part of that story. Basically demonic comedy. Sister imperator and papa nihil. The short video stories over the years are great.
I’ve showed this song to two folks in my life who weren’t really into Ghost, and this converted em. This track just has that catchiness to it that’s undeniable. It just rocks.
"Take out the body and the head will fall" best boxing quote and yet it seems to work when talking about Ghost. They do the little things so well that eventually you just fall under their spell.
I seen Ghost on the first US tour at club in SLC for free. Less than 50 people there and half of them were just there to drink and had no clue...then they performed one of the best live show i ever saw.
They nailed the concept and deal of this band. What you see is dark and anti themes to have you expect heavy and doom like sounds but what you hear is catchy and pop-ish, so in your mind you don't wanna like it but your body does xD That's Ghost for ya.
You guys gotta check out one of the best new all-female bands PLUSH. Their album dropped last month and is being hailed as one of the best albums of the year. Their song Hate was on the charts for 17 weeks. This is the future of Rock and Roll. You need to be part of it!!
They’re cool, but a little too hard/heavy for me. Have you heard Thundermother? They’re a relatively new all-female rock ‘n’ roll band that’s more my speed. Their two most recent albums are the reason I consider them my favorite band of all time 🤘
They found areas of music like occult metal and somehow smashed it with 80s pop and it works. I didn’t really get into them until 2016, but I’ve been hooked ever since. They really fucking rock
I saw them open for Iron Maiden a few years back before this album came out. I really enjoyed their music. Love experiencing a great band unexpectedly.

You can't help but jam. The riffs, the girls, the goat !!! ❤❤🤘🤘
There's so much lore for the band. It's a continous story and makes it really fun for all of us fans.
I wish you guys had watched all of their videos up to this point. This video shows how the Papa came to be. All of their stuff is tied together. They also release shorts in-between which are hilarious.
I like the word play in the chorus of this song. Glad y’all enjoyed it.
Ghost is an unbelievable live show 🥰🥰
"I hate that I like this song."
My feelings on most of the Ghost tunes I like. Lol.
The whole album is just brilliant. You don't wan to like it, but you just have to. It's just so well written, so well organised, so well recorded.
Saw them here is South Texas live and it is definitely worth checking out. Was a badass show.
Deep Purple Marathon! Burn, Stormbringer, Space Truckin, and Fireball (has tambourine)!

I've always enjoyed Ghost when it plays, but they are an absolute blast live! I saw them with Iron Maiden a few years back and they were a lot of fun!
The bass of this song is what makes me enjoy it. Got to listen to it with good headphones, in a car or whatever.
I’ve showed this song to two folks in my life who weren’t really into Ghost, and this converted em. This track just has that catchiness to it that’s undeniable. It just rocks.
This was the first ghost song I ever listened. Since, I've have listened to every album over and over again.
"Take out the body and the head will fall" best boxing quote and yet it seems to work when talking about Ghost. They do the little things so well that eventually you just fall under their spell.
I loved the reactions on this video. Crackin me up
I seen Ghost on the first US tour at club in SLC for free. Less than 50 people there and half of them were just there to drink and had no clue...then they performed one of the best live show i ever saw.
Love the genuine energy guys, keep it up.
🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥🔥🤘🔥🤘
This is a classic album!!!!
RATS!!!!!!! Must be next😎
This may be one of the best 80's pop songs I have ever heard.
Ghost live is an experience. Tobias is an amazing front man!! So entertaining
One of my favourite bands
You know you guys had that song stuck in your head for the rest of the whole day
This is their best song. Love that chorus. Been waiting for you guys to get to that one.
Can't wait to see the Square Hammer reaction
Every single Ghost song is amazing.
Hey Lost In Vegas, this is one of you most fun reaction videos. It went from skeptical to jamming in 4 bars. Cheers ☕
Love how you guys admit to not wanting to like it but also admitting it. Kudos. Music is music. I font like rap but by God I've some guilty pleasures.... ps any chorus with a tambourine will make you dance lol
kiss the go goat or mary on a cross are so catchy too
"I hate it and I like it" that summons whole Ghost experience
