Speaking of mystery water on floor. FYI for Tahoe; This a good one! There is a blank panel under the panel below the wipers on the passenger side. The blank panel covers the fresh air intake for HVAC duct. The sealant that holds it down and seals the opening gets old and hard letting water drip into duct work, drip on fan resister then to floor. So after replacing the fan resister I remove the panel cover then cleaned it. I used that dark gray sealant that is like putty and sticky but never dries up to seal the panel over opening. I don't know if this is common on other GM cars etc.
I agree. Both the Hood and Rear hatches on fast back models were HEAVY and they always screw out of alignment and bounce around. Not just these, but the Fox Body Mustangs in the GT Hatch could use something like this.
I used the Hawks hinges on my 88' GTA and they are quality pieces, ironically the finishing touch to get the best alignment was less powerful hatch struts. AMS 4967 were the ones to get the alignment best with the Hawks fiberglass rear spoiler, the struts on there before were too strong and pushed the hatch out a bit. I spent quite a bit of time researching the different pressure struts available and settled on the ones I mentioned.
I put a pause on my iroc about 6 years ago waiting for the aftermarket to catch up. Glad I did. Really love the tkx, now we have a kit from vintage air, and hawks I believe has a Ford 8.8 rear kit. Perfect
I've been through 2 rear glasses now using those hinges and bolts. The only advice I can give is to use some loctite on the billet bolts and tighten to where you think it's good and then back off about ⅛ turn. It may not break today or tomorrow but if it gets hot enough, the glass is going to spontaneously shatter. Could be while your driving or even sitting parked. But for the love of God, back those nuts off because they are too tight.
i messed with my hatch for like... two solid days. Adjusting the hinges... removing the rear hatch wing/panel and moving it up the glass... All of this and the alignment it still not good. At least not as good as either of your cars. I'm sold! Just purchased with LSXMATT code. Thanks for the video.
Try pulling the plastic cowl that the windshield wipers rest. Is there a well down where the wiper mechanisms move? Look down inside that (may need to clean it out) area and see if any body seam sealant beads appear to be compromised. If need be, run water (hose) into the well and see if you're getting watering leaking into the footwell.
These cars, with all of their idiosyncrasies, are still some of the most awesome Fkin cars ever made. Just started on my 87 IROC😎so excited. Hopefully one day I’ll reach your level. Thanks for all the videos bro. What an awesome car you’ve built
Great video as usual. I know I’m a month late, but a source of mysterious water leaks in the front foot wells is failed seam sealer and or rust holes in the cowl where the wiper transmission sits. The whole cowl area sits completely above the interior. GM just globbed tons of seam sealer in there to prevent water ingress to the interior. What a pain in the ass to work on if you need to do repairs in there. Good luck. An easy test is take a bucket of water and pour it directly into your cowl and look for fresh collection of water in the footwells.
I had the dash out and that area was clean. I think I even re did the seam sealer. It’s most likely coming in where the window meets the t top on the corner and dripping down the trim.
there was a pic years ago, like 90s when car magazines is all we had. but there was a pic of a 91/92 z28 pulling a drag car back to the pits. hatch open, kids riding in the back and toe strap wrapped around the aero wing. I remember cringing at that pic so bad even had then. I'd love to find it thou haha.
Yeah after comparing what people have said over the years I totally don't think the misalignment is in the panel. It's 100 percent in those hinges bending.
How much difference have you noticed with the kilmat? I've recently done the complete hatch area and will be doing rear seat area next. Love this channel!!
North Star Cadillac D’elegance has a dual speed dual cooling fan relay setup that works mint with TPI dual fans (the plugs for fans match up as well). Still sbc so I did this with GNX cooling fan switches. I used to have one fan per switch but the inrush load on the alternator to feed the fan motor would almost sniff the engine out. Now I can’t tell when they’re on. The circuit has both fans in series for “low” speed, both fans in parallel for “high”, because them fans are already rolling there is no inrush for high (never had them operate on high, but the car doesn’t get pushed “hard” for long periods).
That’s what I really need to do. I have the trans am wired up using a schematic from a Tahoe. 3 relays, first come on low speed then high. No annoying dips with that car.
Wow, the load on the Camaro glass had to be substantial, all bent up like that. Job well done on both for that matter. I purposely store my car with the rear glass and hood open to reduce the pressure from lifts damaging things, course, I have the luxury of a pole barn.
earlier this year, i put these hinges on my camaro but torqued them wrong and i ended up shattering my back hatch glass smh, luckily i was able to get another hatch glass for about $100
@@lsxmatt SuperFastMatt here on UA-cam used one in a Tesla Swapped Jaguar - see video Titled "Inside Tesla's Brake Booster (And How To Use It On Any Car)". Highly recommend. I've been considering it for my '89!
Hey Matt, not 100% related to this video but it caught my eye. What bracket are you running on the camaro to mount the sanden compressor? Looking to mount a compressor in that spot on my LS swapped trans am. This summer has been rough without a/c
I don’t think, I haven’t driven the car much it’s mostly been sitting. They look to be leaking at the window glass so I think a little more adjustment there and they might be ok. Before they use to leak water out the overhead console and by the sun visors.
Not sure if you see these comments since you've created the new channel but which air intake are you using on the trans am? I'm doing a similar build and cannot find a good option
The Terminator should have the idle kick feature when the AC compressor comes on. I think there is a wire you connect to the clutch and when it sees voltage you can have the IAC open more.

Hey man, how ya liking the TKX? I reckon I'd maybe get one if & when the NWC T5 in mine goes bad.

How’s the 3rd attempt holding up? Are you still running the hawks hinges?
This is the only thing holding me back from doing this.
@lsXmatt so as the old adage goes, third tries a charm 😆
Where did u manage to find rear hatch glass does anyone even make them new ?
@sprintcardriver8 I've got a few parts cars and I'm an admin in a 3rd gen FB group in west Texas.

I know your pain. I did this exact job, down to the hawks hinges, on my firebird. Love your content.
I agree that Butyl sealant is the best stuff! I never use silicone sealant anymore; it ends up shrinking and not keeping a tight seal.

Just ordered mine.
Ive heard too many stories about exploding hatches. Ill likely leave mine alone since my spoiler is still lined up

I've been adjusting the rear hatch hinges on my F-Body for a while.... new hinges are going to be great.

I could have sworn the rear tail light on the glass was a feature of the 86 only. Mine is a 1986 se with the glass mounted tail light
It is '86 only.

I have two 3rd GENS but my lucky to have to do one. One is a convertible.
When I aligned my rear hatch, I used wooden paint stir sticks on all 4 points you were looking at and let that be my gap.

And whisper quiet on low too.
I've been making my harnesses with hi/low operation too, for this very reason. Just need 3 relays, one with a NC 5th terminal

@@lsxmatt GM switched to that config with dual fans in the 90s. The LS factory manual shows them wired that way
what year caddy?
Great video bro I miss the camaro. I built my third gen camaro off of your videos bro💪🏾✊🏿

Love to know what your vacuum route is going to be, I too am battling this issue and am trying to see my options
I picked up an electric pump from a c7 vette. I’m gonna use that with the stock booster.
@@lsxmatt thank you!
My hawks hinges are sitting on my garage shelf, waiting their turn. I want paint the metal trim ring while I'm at it.
Love to see more 3rd gen content! On the vacuum booster... have you considered moving to a bosch i-booster?
Thats cool I didn’t know it was a thing. Might be fun to try out.

there's nice billet flush door handles that look really nice. don't use those cheap cast ones
Hey Matt
You think it started leaking because the chassis is twisting and shifting the seal
Oh that’s a great point. Sounds like a video Idea . LsxMatt I would love to see a sub frame video.

I made it myself with parts I got from intakehoses.com. It’s all 3 inch tubing
Thanks for thei discount.
How's the glass holding up so far?
So far so good!
Does hawks have hood hinges as well? When opening my hood, it wobbles like it just finished a 30 rack of pabst
They probably do
Did you use the billet aluminum or oem repro bolts?
I used the billet bolts on the Firebird. Those have the gaskets under them. The Camaro got the standard oem bolts.
@lsXmatt Which did you prefer? You use any anti seize on the aluminum ones?
The Terminator should have the idle kick feature when the AC compressor comes on. I think there is a wire you connect to the clutch and when it sees voltage you can have the IAC open more.
GM has never had a good track record with the hinges on their cars. 😂
Alost $45 off with your code!

Thank you for posting. I think I’ll do this on mine too.
The Dorman handles are complete garbage, do not waste your time.
I think I did one worse and got mine from ebay.
