I have EAP, the only useful feature I've found is the lane changing which is really nice unless you're in traffic, then it's a bit too conservative. Aggressive drivers following closely behind cars will prevent you from changing lanes, and the car brakes hard or jerks back into the land if any cars are even moderately close. Self parking hardly ever works, maybe 1/10 times I get the option to use it. My driveway is too steep to use summon on if I want to shift my car, and the app takes forever to start summoning so I've only found one situation where it was marginally helpful. I backed closer to a charger with my hitch bike rack. Smart summon is a gimmick in my opinion, as it's really slow and I don't trust it in a parking lot. Just my two cents!
Thanks for the feedback. I've experienced the same challenges with auto lane change. Unfortunately, can't really test out the capabilities of the other EAP features.
Super helpful, I am glad I read your comment. EAP would be highly limited where I live (Greater Toronto Area), our 401 highway is the busiest highway in North America and auto lane changes are going to be ineffective at best, Scary at the worse. Maybe I'll wait another year so two for the upgrade.
Thank you. I'm a new Tesla owner and ordered a LR Model Y a day after the big price drop. I'm cautiously hopeful that the engineers can work out Tesla Vision with the available hardware on the new cars. Until then I decided to remove EAP from my order to save the $. Thanks for the overview. We take delivery in a couple weeks!
Congrats. I feel you made the right choice regarding EAP. It's not worth the added cost until they can confirm Tesla Vision will be able to replace the functionality in the ultrasonic sensors.
A person with neck troubles will love the Auto lane change feature(no more looking for blind spots and twisting neck uncomfortably in the process). It is sad that the RADAR and ultrasonic sensors are removed from an already lacking set of virtual sensors(low res cameras with insufficient angle of view). I feel it was done to improve cost margin and to reduce supply chain issues than anything else. We need intelligent sensors not commodity cameras adapted for machine vision, to make FSD a reality.

Just got a 2023 Model 3, and I have to say I can't even begin to understand why regular summon is disabled. Smart summon, yea I get that, but the ability to move the car ten feet in a perfectly straight line has no earthly reason to need USS. Mind truly boggled.
My guess is Summon uses the sensors to determine if something is in the path of the vehicle out of camera view. Which begs the question, how is Tesla Vision going to replace this.
For as many months that Tesla hasn't supplied you with the all the features offered when you first purchased EAP they should add at no cost FSD for those same amount of month's! Why pay for something you never got and have to wait (it's been almost 4 month's now) for them to release all the features you paid for and had to drive your vehicle without them, just saying...
I hope we're both wrong because I'm waiting to purchase a MSP but I won't until Tesla replaces the functionality of the USS. Looks like we'll all be waiting for some time...

I’m opting to SUBSCRIBE to FSD for the 3 or 4 long road trips a year. I subscribed on May 22nd and got enrolled in FSD beta. We took a 2K mile road trip and I believe it drove about 50% of the total distance. While it didn’t cause any accidents or get us into trouble there were times it performed like a 15 year-old student driver and other time it was PERFECT. So I’ll continue to “rent” it for $600 to $800/year.
Since Tesla got rid of radar, self driving has got worse with an increasing number of accidents involving motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians. Consumer Reports now places Tesla's SD as seventh with Ford's BlueCruise as the best.
Thank you for this video and differences. Well this is a no brainer for me what I would get. If I purchase a Tesla model Y vehicle in 2024, I would just get the basic Auto Pilot. Why, because I don't drive on the better marked Freeways where EAP functions - I only drive around towns being retired. I don't need the Summons or the Auto Park features since I have never done that kind of parking for a long long time. So spending 6000 dollars on something I would never get use of would be pointless to me. But it is very nice to know what EAP actually does. Seems some of the features are not available anyway because of no sensors on the vehicles. Take care.
From my understanding FSD will be $200 a month when it's finally out. Not sure why people don't just go that route instead of paying one large sum of money.
How do you get the more detailed screen? We rented a tesla and it showed much more of the surrounding like vehicles coming the other way, vehicles at the intersection driving perpendicular, more detail of the road etc? Do you have to buy FSD for that or is it a function you have to enable somehow?
Does the auto pilot definitions change for 2017 Model S? I am getting confuse on them now cause some say it is different and some say it is as same as 2019 model
I'm not the expert here, but I believe there are some differences. The older Tesla's are running on older camera hardware which I believe is v2.0 and v2.5. Newer Tesla's are running on v3 and Tesla is just starting to roll our v4. Having said all that, my guess is there''s some limitations with the older hardware that could limit some of the functionality. Maybe someone else can chime in that knows better.
@@mywifestesla yeah, I figured that too. But Tesla seem to chabge their label too much or make it a little confusing unless you can physically see them and drive them to know.
I am in the market for a new car. I can’t decide between a Tesla Model 3 or a Hyundai Sonata. The Sonatas highest trim, limited, is much less money and comes with a lot more luxury than the Tesla model 3. It also has adaptive cruise with a full 360 camera and lane keep assist plus Apple CarPlay which I’ve grown to enjoy in my current car. But, Tesla offers many more driving assist features if I pay for them and of course is an EV. Picking a new car feels impossible because they all offer their own benefits.
I can't speak to the Sonata, but I do enjoy my Model 3. I came from a vehicle that had Apple CarPlay, and it's really wasn't a big deal to me adjusting to Tesla's software. There's both advantages and disadvantages. BTW - I'm editing a video right now on my 6 month review of the M3, check back in a few days for that if it might help. Good luck.
Own a 2022 Y LR. The front ultrasonic sensors did not work when I bought the car then worked for a while but once again are not working. They are needed for Park Assist which tells me how close I am to “stuff” at the front of my garage. I have a Service Center appointment to fix the problem. Tesla may not be putting the sensors in new cars but older cars have them and I believe they will still work - or why would they give me an appointment. Tesla disappoints concerning those sensors. Most cars have some form of Rear Cross Traffic Monitor which is very helpful when backing out of a space when your vision is blocked by adjacent vehicles BUT Tesla has never had that feature, a significant safety deficiency. Now without the ultrasonic sensors it looks like they will never have the feature. Very disappointing. My wife’s 2017 Honda CRV has the feature. It is about time Tesla took care of that safety need. Regarding Autopilot, EAP and FSD, one disadvantage is that they place the car in the center of your lane. When I am on the highway and alongside a big truck I will cheat and go off center in order to be safer. The system does not take that into account, so I rarely use anything other than Traffic Aware Cruise Control.
Appreciate the comment. If your car has the hardware for the USS, they will continue to work. Last I saw, they seemed to have backed away from their plans of disabling this via the software in the vehicle. My wife has a 2022 M3 LR, and her sensors work just fine. Hopefully they are able to get this fixed for you without too much inconvenience.
I purchased a Model 3 with Enhanced Auto Pilot in Nov 2022. Should be, but Auto Park and Summon isn't available. Any word when this feature will be implemented?
yeah I oped to go with spending the 5k in costs in Australia (AUD nor USD not sure why its cheaper to get in Australia thatn the U.S.) But instead of getting this i decided on just geting the red colour and 19 inch alloys. Since my first model 3 will be picked up on the 18th of March I don't know what to expect over time or if I would want to use those features.
Wish I saw this two weeks ago. Just picked up M3 with EAP because I do a lot of city driving with tons of parallel parking and thought this would be cool feature. Picked car up this week and all I can tell I got for that $6k is ability for car to navigate lane changes on highways which I'm very rarely on. Matter of fact not sure it works as I haven't been on highway with it yet. I guess you could say the other advantage is FSD would only cost me $99. But at this point, you're still not going to get any of the autopark/summon features. what would I even gain going fsd and paying another $99/month?
Thanks for the nice comment. If you subscribe to FSD right now, the only thing you'll pick up is the feature to stop on red light & stop signs. We subscribed to FSD on my wife's Tesla for a recent road trip and I played around with that briefly, and it doesn't work so well in my very limited test. I've found EAP to work well for me on the highway, provided I'm not in heavy traffic. Definitely not worth the $6K I paid for it. Hopefully one of these days FSD will show some improvements so we can leverage that $99 subscription.
Well it's there today if you have a M3 with the Ultrasonic Sensors. For those vehicles that have had the USS removed, I feel it's going to be a bit. My guess is another 6 months if we are lucky. I was just pushed a software update last night that had park assist enabled using Tesla Vision. It's better than having nothing, but still has a ways to go. They need to refine this before they start enabling these other features.
If you mean when does Tesla Vision roll out the functionality that will replace the USS, that's anyone's guess. We'll need that in order to use Summon.
Question I am trying to confirm if EAP is purchased that I would still have the option to purchase FSD for additional 9K (based on todays rates) seems like a no brainer but at the same time assume nothing 😂
@@mywifestesla I think he might be asking if the 9K additional upgrade cost will continue to be offered in the future. Might the upgrade option be withdrawn or its price changed for those who might change their minds and want to upgrade in the future?
As it stands today, none of the extra features work without USS. Lane change still requires driver intervention. Summon does not work. Phantom braking is a real thing. I tried the $200 subscription for 1 month and cancelled it. It is just not ready for mass consumer use.
Auto lane change can be configured to not require driver intervention. The other features, auto park, summon, and smart summon are all disabled if you don't have the sensors. Agree with you on phantom braking, it's very annoying.
Yes. Adaptive cruise control will bring the vehicle to a stop if the car in front of you comes to a complete stop. Once this other vehicle starts moving again, your Tesla will move.
Yea, at one time I believe you could get FSD for $5K, and it's slowly gone up since that time. EAP will set you back $6K and FSD costs $12K. You can do a monthly subscription for FSD which will cost you $99/month if you have EAP or $199/month if you don't.
I hear you. The one feature I find useful is auto lane change when on Autopilot or Navigate on Autopilot. Works well for me when you're not in rush hour traffic. Not saying that justifies the cost, because let's be honest, it doesn't.
@@mywifestesla keeping us all guessing I suppose. Southern Indiana here. Not a lot of people have pointed out the differences of autopilot, nice work. Hopefully the algo is good to you.

The wiper thing is super annoying, and I do hope a fix is coming soon for that. Agree with your items here. I don't think AP really picks up the highway signs and rely's on GPS for speed limits. How do you get the more detailed screen? We rented a tesla and it showed much more of the surrounding like vehicles coming the other way, vehicles at the intersection driving perpendicular, more detail of the road etc? Do you have to buy FSD for that or is it a function you have to enable somehow?
I think what you may be referring to is a setting in Autopilot that you can enable called FSD Visualization.
Well done.
Appreciate it Michael.
Good luck.
Nice 👍 info
I'm still patiently waiting, haven't heard a word.
yeah I oped to go with spending the 5k in costs in Australia (AUD nor USD not sure why its cheaper to get in Australia thatn the U.S.) But instead of getting this i decided on just geting the red colour and 19 inch alloys. Since my first model 3 will be picked up on the 18th of March I don't know what to expect over time or if I would want to use those features.
Probably a good decision. In hindsight, wish I would have saved the $6K or used it for another upgrade like you did.
BTW, probably best video I've seen on this subject so far. Nicely done.
Do you know when auto park smart summon summon are coming to model 3
Well it's there today if you have a M3 with the Ultrasonic Sensors. For those vehicles that have had the USS removed, I feel it's going to be a bit. My guess is another 6 months if we are lucky. I was just pushed a software update last night that had park assist enabled using Tesla Vision. It's better than having nothing, but still has a ways to go. They need to refine this before they start enabling these other features.
When does the update for Summon come out?
If you mean when does Tesla Vision roll out the functionality that will replace the USS, that's anyone's guess. We'll need that in order to use Summon.
Question
I am trying to confirm if EAP is purchased that I would still have the option to purchase FSD for additional 9K (based on todays rates) seems like a no brainer but at the same time assume nothing 😂
Safe assumption. I can buy FSD for $9K or subscribe for $99/month.
Does it stop and start the car with basic autopilot based on cruise control in traffic?
Yes. Adaptive cruise control will bring the vehicle to a stop if the car in front of you comes to a complete stop. Once this other vehicle starts moving again, your Tesla will move.
6 thousand dollars! Didnt they do a pre order years ago for full self driving for that price? I sure hope this isn't the replacement because oof.
Yea, at one time I believe you could get FSD for $5K, and it's slowly gone up since that time. EAP will set you back $6K and FSD costs $12K. You can do a monthly subscription for FSD which will cost you $99/month if you have EAP or $199/month if you don't.
Picked up a used 2018 model s with enhanced auto pilot already installed so I basically got it for free.
That suspicious eyes 👀 though.
voltage glitching= FSD unlock
I tried the monthly autopilot for $199/month just for 1month. Just to try
But Barely use any features on auto pilot that i paid.
Not worth it for me
I hear you. The one feature I find useful is auto lane change when on Autopilot or Navigate on Autopilot. Works well for me when you're not in rush hour traffic. Not saying that justifies the cost, because let's be honest, it doesn't.
I can switch lane my own , save the $6k
Good content…. Can’t help but feel judged because of all the squinting 🤨
😂 That's the best comment yet.
You can also try is by subscribing to this feature for $200 a month
You can subscribe to FSD for $200/month but there is currently not an option to subscribe to EAP.
When ordering enhanced auto pilot why are they charging $6000
You're a good speaker so there is no need for those jump takes. Super distracting.
Appreciate the constructive feedback. Thanks.
I have FSD but don't benefit from it because I don't have USS ;(
Bro, are you staring into the sun?
Dude, I'm in Michigan. There's no sun in the winter here, so not sure what the squinting is all about.
@@mywifestesla keeping us all guessing I suppose. Southern Indiana here. Not a lot of people have pointed out the differences of autopilot, nice work. Hopefully the algo is good to you.
Why do you keep calling it otter pilot?
Must be that Michigan accent.
Yeah... difference between a stupidity and a bigger stupidity which it all means this question: how do you want to pass away? 😏
The difference?: how many pedestrian do you want to put at risk?
Lol. Stop it.
Man forget that cheap ass “enhanced “ BS , get the dang beta FSD. Pishhh , unless you enjoy almost sideswiping parked Amazon delivery trucks 🚚 or constantly having to actually pay attention like a caveman .
One day Tesla will charge for “ enhanced tire air” and it’s cult
will pay for it 😂😂😂
Sign me up.
I just want to fully depend on selfdriving so that i can pull up to work asleep or no longer use uber when going out for drinks 🥹
I have long highway drives from Maryland through Pennsylvania to Ohio to check on my Mom every couple of weeks in my ‘23 model Y - (love this amazing vehicle) - I use the standard autopilot frequently on these highways - but I have noticed a couple things that make me nervous; clearly the Tesla cameras do not pickup the speed limit signs very accurately, never when the sign is yellow with warning of curving roads ahead - the approach to highway toll gates is definitely not recognized and I must always disengage well ahead of any Highway toll booth areas (the PA turnpike is a cash cow for someone) - work-zone speed reductions signs are not recognized and the autopilot will happily send me 70 mph into a 50 mph work zone (not cool) *** also since the sw update last week my wipers come on for no reason while in autopilot and can only be turned off by disengaging autopilot (truly frustrating, but I am confident they will correct that soon)
The wiper thing is super annoying, and I do hope a fix is coming soon for that. Agree with your items here. I don't think AP really picks up the highway signs and rely's on GPS for speed limits. Thought I saw an update recently where it would be using those signs more, especially for construction zones, but I haven't really paid attention to how well that is working.
