Don't give money to Omaze they pass on a tiny percentage to the charity and do not publish details that let you calculate your chance of winning. You want to win a Tesla or anything else enter a state or national lottery that's properly regulated and is required by law to both publish the odds and give a significant percentage of the ticket value to charity, then if you win just buy the Tesla. Don't fall for the marketing folks.

Some of the features you discussed are only available in US public builds, like green light chime, and in some markets, autopilot is still being sold separately from FSD.

It’s crazy that software is locked to a platform (Car). Not a person. Imagine if apple did this with iPhones, pay for every app each time you buy a new phone. I have full auto was 7k when I got it, will not pay 12k when/if I get another Tesla in future. 12k is over 10% of most teslas price.

Not only do you not own it but if you sell the vehicle back to tesla they will resell the vehicle without FSD and the new buyer has to pay again.

@@JamesBond-qv2ht As a shareholder there’s 2 perspectives. First being, if FSD was transferrable the likelihood I stay in the Tesla ecosystem and purchase a Tesla as my next car is much higher. Second being, because it’s not transferable today if I do buy a new tesla, they’ll get an additional 12K from me if I decide to go with FSD. Downside to second perspective being I may not feel as incentivized to buy another Tesla as fast or even again if my FSD is non transferable.

I think Tesla should make FSD a personal purchase and not bind it to the car itself. Meaning that you could take FSD with you for the next Tesla car you buy. In that way, it would be a long term invest and you would not lose it when changing cars (as long as you stay with Tesla). Right now, you are investing in a beta software that you might never be able to use in your current Tesla car. This is stupid.

Right now, it isn't even "might never be able"... It's straight up "WILL never be able". And that's buying the car TODAY and you keeping it at least 5 years... Tesla can't even claim it's "full self drive"-equipped right now. There is no way for them to know that. That doesn't stop them from claiming it, but it's a straight up lie... And if you don't believe me watch Elons speeches as the financial quarter rolls around, where he'll tell you again they'll self drive a year from now and FSD prices will go up (as he has what feels like a dozen times by now). Tesla may make decent cars, but FSD as it's currently sold is a straight up scam.

I always like to buy used. The moment you drive the car off the lot, it decreases in value. If you simply make sure your purchase is of a car with low mileage and still under warranty WITH FSD already purchased, then Bob’s Your Uncle, as the British say. With that said, I do like the idea of having the software attached to one person, who can then jump from car to car.

The only reason to pay $12k for FSD now is if you want to donate to the FSD team. It's not an investment any more than buying a Roadster was in 2008.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Even ignoring the beta FSD, in countries outside of the USA FSD can be severely limited in its capabilities.
Understandably this video focuses on the US market, but if you are in another country your findings will be very different.
For example in the UK Tesla offer "Enhanced Autopilot" as an option as the "FSD" in the UK offers very little more.

To add to this... Limited features in the UK and EU:
      - Navigate on Autopilot (Only available on 'motorways' in the UK)
      - Automatic lane changes (Only available on 'motorways', can't do lane changes on dual carridgeways)
      - Smart Summon (Can only travel 20 meters total and you must be within Bluetooth range, so basically at the door)
      - Autosteer (Can only perform up to 0.3g of lateral acceleration, meaning it slams on heavily for even rather mild turns)
      - Automatic lane changes again (Must indicate 3 times and move within x seconds, otherwise time out and move back to the original lane)
      - Attention checker, 'wheel nag' (Every 10 seconds, not up to 45 (I think?) in the US)
Probably a bunch I'm missing, but those are the main ones that come to mind. :)
At the end of the day... The FSD package in Europe offers 'some' automatic lane changes, 'occasional' following route (It struggles a lot on many EU interchanges it seems), and that's about it really.

@@stuartburns8657 I have seen videos of people using FSD in US and i can guarantee you that current FSD does excellent job in narrow streets, and that 90% of streets i drive around (in below average EU country) myself are better marked than average US street is, and in addition, rules are much more static. No: "you can turn right on red here, but 50 miles further, you can not." etc. Once FSD starts getting fed EU data, i'm sure it will get as good as in US much faster than it was in US.

I recently purchased a Tesla, and included was 3 months of full self driving. So I tried it. And, it works. Occasionally, I have taken over because it can't read a "Detour" sign or it takes too long to change lanes, but overall, it really works. The best thing about it is that it displays on the screen what it is thinking and what it is about to do. You can tell it's going to stop at the stop sign, or that it sees the red light, or that it sees the pedestrian, or that it's going to turn left, you can tell that it sees the oncoming traffic, or whatever else it is thinking. It's pretty remarkable.

I just bought a used 2020 Model S Long Range. I made sure that the car already had FSD. It turned out that upon delivery, the car also has the beta active, which is awesome. Loving the experience…but you have to treat FSD a little like it’s having a ten year old child driving the car. It works really well a lot. But you need to anticipate situations where the system becomes indecisive, and just take over at times.

There is still value in buying now but not joining beta and wait until the beta is replaced with general release. It was £4000 when I bought it expecting to not get much for many years. The Nav on AP was so useful on my Grand Tour of Europe in 2019, I reckoned I had my value for money already. I planned to hope to benefit from true FSD as I reached the age when I would otherwise have to think about hanging up my car keys, so extending my personal mobility by quite a few years. This will be my last vehicle if it doesn’t get killed in an accident, so FSD was highly desirable as a gamble purchase when I could afford that, but not the long range AWD. I knew I would not ever manage the increased price if I waited until it was a definite done deal, so buying when I did made sense - it was then or never for me. If I had to make that decision now, it would be harder, but I might still opt in now to beat future price rises, knowing that retirement income wouldn’t justify monthly rental.

It must (unintentially) piss off other drivers and may be the source for some road rage incidents and helps createTesla haters out there. Despite that, I still like to engage FSD beta in light traffic. I too am intrigued with new tech and used to be a beta s/w tester at my job. I became aware of AP features that are only available to those who bought FSD a few months after I got my car. It had this great feature of chiming when I was sitting at a red light that turned green. Then after a software update this feature went away. I asked over at the Tesla Motors Club and was told this AP feature was only for cars with FSD. Tesla had mistakenly made it available on some AP-only cars but then fixed this mistake in an update.

I use Summon feature all the time to bring the car out of my relatively tight garage, Traffic Light recognition is also my favorite feature as well. As long as you own the car over 5 yrs, considering all the other readily usable features, 12k investment seems no brainer to me. Meanwhile, if you choose subscription plan for FSD, do not expect to use FSD beta every time you re-subscribe it, you need to go through the Safety Check process over again.

At around 10 minutes in, DT gets into highway lane changes on FSD autopilot. He states that he keeps it set to require authorization for lane changes. So do I, but the settings can be adjusted so that it does not change lanes for a faster lane until you're speed decreases to a certain point, relative to your set speed (say, 5 or 10 mph below the set speed).

Thats the thing about a Tesla, as long as the hardware is capable, your car makes nearly no difference 3 years from now vs the new car. My car was an early release from 2018, and now has pretty much every feature except an outside speaker, power lift gate, and more range. I still have the same FSD features, the sentry mode, light show, games, Netflix, etc etc so I don't really care to upgrade. I'm almost certain they are raising the price because they DON'T want people into the program right now and to obviously show it's value. But reality is that if two car companies with basically same seats in it, offers to drive you somewhere, you really won't care much about what car it is, just the price and it is going to quickly be a race to the bottom when common. Like so many other features of cars. Which is great, but it's to say I wouldn't worry too much about the price in the long run.
If another car company offers what autopilot does + lane change, then I think it's going to be more than enough for 90% of people for right now.

I don't like the thought of monthly payments for something like FSD because, at $12k, you make 61 payments (which is five(ish) years of payments) and you've paid more than $12k. Tesla NEEDS to let people pay the $12k and own it - thus, having the ability to have FSD included on another Tesla when trading/replacing one for another.
