So many different types of voice, able to sing like in LP songs but also ac/dc songs, guns and roses or even Adele. He was awesome and it's one in a quarter century.
Linkin Park is so diverse especially with songs like Faint and In The End which are more hip hop/metal centric, songs like Crawling and Given Up (which has a long scream) that are more metal centric, and songs like Halfway Right and One More Light that are pop. One More Light is by far their most soft and heart wrenching song. One of their only songs without percussion in it. All are great songs!!!
Her face when the music first started and that iconic melody started to play!!! This song was everything and every where and even people that didn't like rock much would know the words lol. I was a teen when it came out. Perfect timing for all that teenage angst I had going on
What makes Chester special is that when he screams his voice can be rough and instantly he can change his voice to be very smooth or clean when singing normally. As long as I've heard songs there's nothing like Chester. he can also voice high and it's really high, it must be admitted that when Emily sang the LP there were several songs that she was overwhelmed by because Chester's tone was really high in that part.
This song/album came out in my early 40's while I had 2 sons in their early to teenage years. I remember hearing it while I was working evenings and not able to be as involved with them as much as I would have liked. The line "All I want is to be more like me and less like you." along with the following lines hit me HARD. On weekends I was trying to "raise my sons" and found them pulling from the direction I wanted for them. They both went into performance arts, band, etc. and away from the sports that I had been raised on. This song and others like it were a slap in the face - one that woke me up to looking for what THEY wanted. I learned how to run sound equipment, video editing, set building - all of the things that supported THEIR dreams. I've never asked them if this song represented how they felt... I didn't have too. It was enough that I feared that it was. Now at 25 to 30 and me at 60, we are closer than I felt back then. Bonus: I find JOY in learning as much about THEIR (and your) world. I miss working on school musicals. But excellent reaction/analysis channels like yours allow me to explore. I may NEVER be a performer, but I love performance!
You should really check out his rendition of Adele’s, “Rolling in the Deep” Cover, Live from the iTunes Festival 2011 and “Crawling” from the One More Light Live show. They are both live, intimate and stripped down versions focusing heavily on Chester’s vocals.
The toughest song for Chester was Crawling. It was hard on his vocal cords and hard for him emotionally because he wrote the lyrics about the abuse he was doing to himself with drugs and alcohol.
What a wonderful time. Linkin Park in its early days, System of a Down, Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Seether, Slipknot, Staind, Rage Against The Machine, Evanescence. The golden age of Nu Metal, my favorite musical genre. "Numb", one of the biggest hits of all time. Everyone knows it, everyone sings every lyric, everyone loves it. Memorable. What a great choice and memory, Jen. Linkin Park's next could be "In The End".
When you hear a Linkin Park song for the first time, you are like, wait, what, have I heard this? Everyone has heard some bit of Linkin Park somewhere and sometime in their lives.
I'm not a Linkin Park fan but do, oddly enough, enjoy watching people react to them. However, your face when the girls get up and leave the table when she sits down is me whenever I see this video.
A humble tip: you have to know the band Deftones. It is unique, impossible to classify it in one genre. Delirious lyrics, addictive riffs, catchy vocals. Each track is as if it transports us to another dimension, a journey to another universe. "Digital Bath", "Rosemary", "Sextape", Beauty School", "Change", "Passenger", "Minerva", "Hole In the Earth", "Be Quiet And Drive" and several other masterpieces. Begin with "Digital Bath", you're going to love it, Jen.
fun fact about how chester affected me. chester with given up due to how long holds that 10-12+ second misery line and brenden urie with say amen with his high c or d saturday near the end of the song(guessing notes haven't done music theory in over a decade so i'm rusty) was actually the reason how i found my natural highest note(no idea what the exact term is). so chester helped me find my high voice. and this was all started because i was actually looking for a nickleback song that i did not know the name of and found burn it down by accident over a decade ago when i was a freshman.
The Chills I got the day this album was released and hearing it for the first time are the same chills I get now at the age of 37 and listening. Meteora and Hybrid Theory will always have a special place in my heart. Those two albums got me through some really dark times.
if you make another LP reaction i will be there. im now 39 years old, liked LP always but didnt understand the songs because too young and language barrier...now i understand there texts and songs, wich makes me feel even more sad because im too late fore a live concert....its just sad
He's one of the top 10 greats. It's funny to throw him up there with Linda Rondstadt and Jimmy Page or Nancy Wilson because they're musically so different, but they're all really at that pinnacle.
Just watching this video of how much I miss Chester as the singer. He had an amazing voice and one of my favorite singers. Chris Cornell is another favorite singer of mine which was Sound Garden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave. Chris and Chester were good friends. Chester also did a EP of Stone Temple Pilots which was a replacement of Scott Weiland who passed away in 2015 from drugs. Linkin Park original band was named Hybrid Theory but changed the name which idk why. I seen Linkin Park in the 2000’s live in concert and were amazing to see them live
The 2nd singer is Mike Shinoda! He does a lot of backing up vocals like "In The End". Other songs are "Crawling" and "Castle of Glass". "Numb" and "In the End" are Linkin Parks most successful songs.
Chester did a live cover of Rolling in the Deep. I would HIGHLY recommend checking it out, either react or on your own time, well worth the watch. Keep up the amazing work.
A short song that still packs a real punch. All the inner turmoil is in that great rock track. And school years can be pretty unkind to some. Depending on if you fit in or you don’t. I don’t know what it’s like today; hopefully better. But as I was growing up I got to experience how you’re treated when you can’t blend with your peers: you walk the margins. I did have friends- other misfits and unpopular kids like me. My thing was art, and later music. So I did the art student/rock kid thing, completely giving up on fitting in. Nowadays bullying is taken so much more seriously. People realize it’s a very heavy deal. But Chester could’ve told you that. Maybe someday stories like his will no longer need to be told.
Their live performance of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep is incredible!!! I know you’ll get a lot of recommendations to their own music and it’s all great. Chester was a master at making those who heard him feel what he was feeling
I also feel like that due to certain events in my life where I totally missed out on some artists or genres coming into their own. I got lucky and did not have that happen with Evanescence and Linkin Park.
Linkin Park was responsible for my journey into Rock Music. Crazy how it was Linkin Park made discover The Beastie Boys, which led me to Limp Bizkit to becoming a full rock fan in the 2000s. Especially when Hip-Hop started becoming more poppy.
Chester is so much better, but I'd like to hear your opinion on Emily Armstrong's version of this song. You also need to react to The Warning. Three sisters from Mexico that have a pretty cool rock band. I just saw them live, last week, for the third time. For three young ladies, they are an amazing live band. 😁
The whole Meteora album is so special. You are totally right about screaming those songs in some bad teen moments. But I'm 40 now and it is still my first and most important remedy when I'm furious. I've played it many times in my car on my way back from work, after especially difficult days. It is amazing how this kind of music can make you breath your anger away and actually get calmer within minutes ❤ You can still try it yourself. I'm not particularly fond of heavy rock or metal, because this music makes me more angry, but Linkin Park Metora has a totally opposite effect on me 😅 From the Inside was a first go to song for me in difficult times 😉
Jennifer you have selected a Jim Danny of a song. Chester was one hell of a singer! I pray that he is at peace now. I believe that very many young people relate to this video! Invisible and not part of their community & setting.... Even this girl's mother is a part of the problem! Her classmates are bullies. Thanks
Hello! I love your analysis, i think it would be really cool if you bring more linkin park in the future, they have some pretty good songs, my recomendations are Faint and One Step Closer
Check out the 1000 lights event at Utilita arena, Birmingham.I was meant to go. Got my ticket and learned the songs on guitar. Unfortunatly I wasn't able to go.Gutted because it looked epic.
Thanks Jen. Would highly recommend you take a look/listen to the live cover of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" from their iTunes Festival in 2011 (I think in London). It's amazing.
The carpenters are a gold react too. I was gonna put Karen in my top 10, and it's a no, but it's close. She's probably around 12th or 13th in my list. Still an incredible singer and a sad loss. Brilliant drummer too, like Ringo much misunderstood and better at keeping time than many of the "stars"
Ooo if you're looking for new music styles to analyze, I'd highly recommend sleep token. Their song "take me back to Eden" goes through like 4 different genres in the same song, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it 😁
I would say that you should react to more of old Linkin Park, you can mix with some live performances like the "Live in Texas", Given Up and Crawling are also really good songs to react. As for the new Linkin Park, I think you should hold a little before reacting, there is just one song really new so far and, in my opinion, the new singer can't really shiny with the older musics, I would even say that it's a totally new band (and they should not even be called Linkin Park), while I hope for their success I didn't like that much the new style they are going for, but is still a little early to set in stone.
Please listen to two absolutely different songs by Diana Ankudinova from art of HANS ZIMMER no time to die and OST dune or amazing duet Diana &Brendon Stone the day you...
Hi there! I love your reactions. Would you consider reacting to Lorna Shore? Their vocalist, Will Ramos, is incredibly talented guy with super impressive voice.
Chester was just special. His power combined with that sweet voice is so good. And his voice will always be remebered. It so recognizable too
So many different types of voice, able to sing like in LP songs but also ac/dc songs, guns and roses or even Adele. He was awesome and it's one in a quarter century.
Chester was the voice for a generation of kids who didn’t feel like they had a voice
Him doing Crawling live acapella will blow you away. Tissues required
They also have a live cover of Rollin' in the Deep from one of their concerts that's pretty spectacular
@@adamross2256That performance was just brilliant!
Linkin Park - Given Up
You're not ready.
100% this. Would definitely recommend watching a live version AND the studio version.
👆 That. Chester shows you his unique talent - with an amazing surprise. RIP Chester 🙏
@@palladinodessa8988 This. RIP Chester
His vocals are insane in that one.
That would be A RIDE to Jenn! A must to react indeed!

Sings like an angel and screams like a demon. Truly a special artist, his music changed my life growing up. Rip Chester we all miss you 😇

I have been a Linkin Park fan for such a long time I relate to screaming this song out back in the day
This song/album came out in my early 40's while I had 2 sons in their early to teenage years. I remember hearing it while I was working evenings and not able to be as involved with them as much as I would have liked. The line "All I want is to be more like me and less like you." along with the following lines hit me HARD. This song and others like it were a slap in the face - one that woke me up to looking for what THEY wanted. I learned how to run sound equipment, video editing, set building - all of the things that supported THEIR dreams. I've never asked them if this song represented how they felt... I didn't have too. Good on you for recognizing the direction you were pushing them towards and actually making a change. Unfortunately it seems to be rare.
Same with me... I had not really listened to them so this was a new experience. Huge fan now.
This entire album is worth analyzing
One more light, the live version, you are going to cry
You should really check out his rendition of Adele’s, “Rolling in the Deep” Cover, Live from the iTunes Festival 2011 and “Crawling” from the One More Light Live show. They are both live, intimate and stripped down versions focusing heavily on Chester’s vocals.
I hope she does react to both songs. So emotional!
I’m pretty sure Chester has said in an interview this is probably the toughest song to sing in their catalog
The toughest song for Chester was Crawling. It was hard on his vocal cords and hard for him emotionally because he wrote the lyrics about the abuse he was doing to himself with drugs and alcohol.
Given Up. That scream.
the toughest ones to sing according to him were blackout, crawling, one step closer
Amy Lee and Evanescence are mind blowing. If you haven't already. you need to listen to more!
