Funny you accidentally took off the shift linkage thinking it was the filter bolt. I did the same thing. Only use WS Toyota brand trans fluid anything else is not the same. Toyota has special friction modifiers in there fluid. There is a difference. Nice video 😊👍 Thanks!!

Incredible video showing everything wow excellent job making this thank you. My 4th gen 2006 4.7 L V8 Sport is getting what I think is it's first transmission fluid change ever as we speak at Toyota right now at 243 500km Yikes. Recommended change lists it to be done at 96 000 km. 2 previous owners before me. I bought with 177 000km and do not believe this was ever done. I did not see your video until now to see all the steps involved. I asked the service manager at Toyota 2 hours ago if there was a filter and he said no but I can clearly see there is off your video lol and replacing it and cleaning the magnets in the tank checking the gaskets etc... All they are doing for their service for $244 Canadian is draining and replacing the fluid no flush or filter check or change etc. Now I see being half way through your video there is a lot more to it than just that especially where I am at for KM on vehicle and knowing it has never been done which is concerning for sure. Will continuing watching the rest of your video. I also was looking for the dip stick for the transmission fluid under the hood and could not find one. Does a 2006 4th gen 4.7 V8 not have a dipstick to check or am I blind? I requested they save me a sample of the fluid so I could personally see just how dirty the fluid is.

I subbed as well :) just finished the full video wow big process and journey and after seeing everything in full now. Since Toyota was just draining and adding in new fluid and not removing the pan and changing the filter I will ask them how many L it took them. Curious what they use for transmission fluid their own brand like I think you mentioned in video when you had a different product. Seeing that its not a proper pressurized flush they are doing with just draining and refilling I wonder how much of the old fluid stays in the system with that said and in the radiator etc.. 10 % 5 % 20% mixture of old and new without proper flush and just draining and re adding new? lol really curious. Will find out how many L they put in when I go pick up shortly and reply with this.

So when I went and paid at Toyota I asked the service manager how much does my 06 v8 4 runner sport hold for fluid and he looked it up 12.2 L he said. Ok so I then asked how much new fluid did you put in? ahh probably approximately 7 to 8 L really ok wow... I then asked how much does it say got put in on the sheet 4L and then he proceeds to tell me they just bill me out for 4L and the rest is continued whatever the F&8K that meant... So Toyota is so generous I just get 3 or 4 L for Free? LOL I think not! I then asked what you use for fluid WS fluid world standard fluid is what went in. He also said lots of the fluid that does not get drained out stays in the torque converter. My friend happened to be with me and one of the mechanics happened to come and in his side conversation with him he said probably 4 L went in .. So I have no idea wtf the service manager was saying with probably 7 or 8 went in and just bill me for 4L with the rest continued meant... Very confusing and misleading.... I should have finished the conversation with saying so essentially this is part 1 of repeating this process like 3 4 or 5 times to cycle out the rest of the original shit black transmission fluid that still remains in the system if it holds 12.2 L and only 4 got drained out and added in most of it is shit old fluid still. With that said this basically did nothing as far as I am concerned aside from starting the process of what needs to be done numerous times lol $244 Canadian Dollars this cost to drain out 4 L and add 4 in I am assuming and am going to disregard what he said about 7 or 8 L. Even in your video when you are draining at the end again you said how black and dirty it is still which makes perfect sense. Anyways just wanted to write all this in hopes that it helps others along with your awesome video so people have a better understanding of how the dealership can be very confusing on the issue as well.

also you never did show how you ended up getting that fill cap back on due to the poorly engineered area where it was located. Did you have to bend that piece of metal up so it would not cross thread and go in straight or?

Thanks for the video. I bought one these 4Runners. It’s v8 and 4x4 version. I’m not sure if the transmission fluid has ever been changed. It shifts fine but with 335,000 miles I want to do a drain and fill + filter swap.

I’m so confused, what does the radiator have to do with the transmission? Isn’t coolant in the radiator??

Transmission fluid also flows and is cooled by the radiator

Runs pretty good, just when called has a slight hesitation switching to 4th but it had the same issue before the change, I just need to find the time to do couple more changes and see what happens. im at 150k

@@cruizinmax4017 I have a 2006 with the 4.7 it has 335,000 miles a lot of it’s highway and I’m not sure if my buddy I bought it from ever changed it or not. The trans shifts fine but I definitely am gonna do a drain and fill plus new filter. It’s next on my list right after front wheel bearings I’m throwing on it tomorrow.
