    I’ve noticed lately getting out of park can feel a little tough at times, like when parked on an incline.

    I have a 1995 second generation 4Runner. I have heard it said that it is controversial about whether you should change the automatic trans fluid. If you do...do you need to change or clean a filter or screen in the pan? I just heard the same statement about controversy relative to changing the transfer case oil. I'd like change it but have to wonder why several people question whether this should be done or not if it is not leaking. Maybe that question is relative to much older cars? Thanks.....
    I was hoping to find a video with a trick as to how to avoid the mess of oil when changing the oil filter on the second generation V6...always a mess onto the under engine brace.

    I've got a 97 with 142k recently, she actually looks like your without the brush guard. I got her from IL, but she's from the dunes of Indiana, so she's fairly rust free, and she's got some liner on her too. Doesn't seem like she got a lot of service maintenance in any shops according to the carfax, but I'm gonna do a fluid change on her soon, since i have no idea when it was done. I gotta do a timing belt kit too, but they said they did it, and 2 of my belts are clearly old and distressed, so I have no idea why they wouldn't have changed them while in there if they actually did do a timing change.

    Solid video man! I'm just about to embark on all the service work on my recently acquired 3rd gen and make some videos on it haha. I'm wondering what your wheel specs are? I was looking into reps of these wheels but then I found out how cheap the OEM ones are and from the little info I could find it seems like they will fit a 3rd gen. What are your wheel & tire specs? and did they fit without a lift kit? thanks in advance man, did the channel and I just subscribed!!

FYI, my 3rd gen Toyota service manual (page PP-30) states for A340F automatic transmission "Drain and refill - 2.0 liters (2.1 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts) - ATF D-II or DEXRON III (DEXRON II). When I drained I only got 2 quarts out of transmission, refilled with 2 qts and ran a bit, level checked out correct when cold.

    If you were to drain the fluid & saw metal shavings in there, would that mean its too late to add new fluid and you should just put the old fluid back?

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  3 місяці тому +2

      Hmm the magnets are in the pan so you shouldn’t see too many shavings unless you tore that apart.
      On a single drain and fill, only half the fluid comes out so you can add new fluid in and see how it goes. Save the old fluid if you’re paranoid!
      I suspect mixing half old and half new will be fine.

    Do you recommend doing this to a 194k mile 4Runner if it has never been done before?

      I would try at least one drain and fill

    • @prandomable
      @prandomable Рік тому +1

      Drain and refill typically would do no harm. Doing a transmission flush however could potentially make your clutch pack in your transmission though and lose grip at the clutch pack.
      Don't flush your transmission fluid if you have high mileage transmission that has never been serviced. But do drain and refill typically does no harm...

  • @oldschoolisnewschool

    • @dante04srt
      @dante04srt 3 роки тому +1

      The filter in these is a metal screen, not a traditional filter element. In these transmissions I don't believe it's necessary to do a filter every change or flush. I flushed my entire system (truck has 90k so I wasn't worried about keeping old fluid in thr system) and kept the old filter in place. Next time I do a full flush I will likely swap filters.

If I am not replacing all of my transmission fluid, is it OK if I "mix" different brands of fluids, as long as the new fluid meets the stated standard in the Toyota owners manual?
