The truth hurts. As does responsibility. Coming to the realization that we’re all stupid monkeys that only became the dominant species on the planet because we can abstract out idea and share them with each other, dissecting other’s opinions to find the best and the worst. The problem is it hurts to be proven wrong. You can either decide that knowledge and growth is worth the agony, or you can remain stupid and ignorant and always assume you’re right for the rest of your life. It hurts to look at yourself objectively and decide to take the reigns to build your own future and get as close to the truth as you can manage. It’s the one reason I’m glad to be suffering from clinical depression. I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy, but it brought about the realization that suffering can increase growth and maybe make me just a bit less stupid at the end of the day. If you look at the most incredible people around you and talk to them, you’ll find out they had to go through Hell and back to get to where they did. Sheltering ourselves or each other damages us far more than accepting that life is painful but can be less so if we just take responsibility for ourselves.
His students knew exactly how lucky they were. His classes were always signed up within minutes and there was always a long waiting list.
Dr. Peterson changed my life for the better in many different ways. I've seen him speak twice, and he is on fire when he gets going. He causes me to think more deeply than anyone else, with James Lindsey being a close second. His Biblical lectures are just epic.
Please never stop doing these! I love seeing how you respond to his ideas and talks! I'd especially love to see your reaction to his biblical analysis, as a former militant atheist who re-evaluated my position in large part due to Dr. Peterson's analysis.

He's the type to look into straightforward accounts of events that happened and try to read psychological archetypes into them, the type that would say the resurrection of Jesus is nothing more than the enlightenment of hope for a better life based on reforming your life around much of the teachings of that Jesus. It's utter nonsense.

Underneath his videos there are numerous comments from atheists who have reevaluated their positions after listening to him. So do not be so quick to cast stones
I usually don’t bother watching him in interviews and as a guest on various shows/podcasts/etc, but his classroom lectures and his series on biblical symbolism are both really fascinating to me. He is an excellent lecturer.
I love how Dr Peterson will puck out a handful of poeple at a time and direct his lecture personally to them. He cycles through several students with this technique. Makes the learning personal, almost like a conversation.
In order to understand some psychologically, you can't just study psychology. You have to be able to put yourself in their mentality, which can be a very dark place. It seem to me that is what he was trying to do here, to get his students to think of how, and why someone would do something. Which, if you think about it, is the entire point of psychology.
@@goldenhate6649 well, the “whole point of psychology” is just like any other “logy”.. its the Study of the Human Mind. This doesnt mean just disorders or “dark” thoughts. Depends what we specialize in. Some Psychologists specialize in purely “Assertiveness Training” or just helping already gifted minds on how best to utilize them into their dream futures. His style of teaching is something we call building “rapport” with our patients, or in Dr Petersons case, students. Just as the OP said, its just a method of building what feels like personal eye to eye, one on one dialogue, rather than reading the same script. So i agree with part of your reply.. but its also not that deep. Natural charisma also does play a major role.. a trait many have that are not in the psychological fields..

Jordan Peterson is absolutely brilliant. My brain tingles whenever I listen to his monologues and arguments. So eloquent, so intelligent, so elegant. It's like listening to an amazing, complex musical piece and feeling chills. Don't ever stop reacting to his material, it's rich, highly, densely packed food for thought ❤️

Watching a lot of Jordan Peterson has improved my diction and expanded my verbal lexicon immensely. Big words are not necessary to convey meaning in English, but they do help emphasize the philosophical gravity of any point you wish to convey. The thesaurus and the dictionary are always by my side.

For sure he is, this kind of eloquence is extremely rare to come by - and it's evident in his writing, his lectures, his interviews - it is obviously natural to him.

@@curtisvalle5141 I've spent 5 years in academia and have never met a single person who speaks so eloquently. The only ones that come somewhat close are my friends from the gifted children school, but he is on a whole different league from any of us. It's one thing to be able to write well, where you usually have the time to think each sentence through and refine your thoughts - but to be at such a high level in real time speech, that's impossible to fake and no amount of study and training is enough.

Alex, dude, today is the best time ever to expand your vocabulary. When I was learning I had to go to the mall and buy cassette tapes to strengthen and expand my word usage. Now there is free sh*t practically falling out of the sky. UA-cam has some pretty good stuff. Spend an hour or more each day and concentrate on expanding. You're probably already doing something like this, but just in case I thought I would throw it out there. Salute.
"Be open minded. Be willing to hear the oppositions view". That's amongst the best advice anyone could give in the 21st century especially. Especially with woke and cancel culture in the world. I don't succeed all the time, but I do try more now than I used to and I'm much happier because of it.

@@tombrookes2923 Your story is surprisingly similar to mine. In 9th grade I only listened to stuff such as AC/DC and Metallica. I knew I liked heavier music but could not get over the wall of sound and vocals until Bullet for My Valentines Fever album. Then it was A7X. From there it was history. Lorna Shore, Jinjer, Slipknot, Wage War, absolutely love it all. I have also gotten big into powermetal too.
It took 4 years before I listened to slipknot, and another 2 before Arch enemy. Not a quick dive, but slowly falling in love with the genre.

It is impossible to give informed consent, to make an informed decision, or to form an accurate and valid opinion with out INFORMATION! This is why the free exchange of ideas is so very crucial.
Don't fall too much in love with eloquence. Listen to the ideas and judge for yourself if the ideas are worthwhile.
People can fall for some stupid sh*t because the speaker is mind-blowingly eloquent and charismatic. I'm a Peterson fan, so I get the eloquence and the worthwhile ideas at the same time.
Like Michael Eric Dyson. So many seem to think the guy is a genius because he talks eloquently with big words, it’s all word Salad.
But, don't undervalue eloquence either -- not if it is an eloquence built on clarity of thought and crystallized reasoning. Hearing a master craftsman inevitably helps tune your own mind.

That’s exactly why I love listening to him too. He is so eloquent and full of knowledge and data - he just throws it arround like it’s nothing. Even though I align myself with the left side of the political spectrum, I mostly agree with the points he makes in regards to those topics, and he is so damn interesting to listen to. And he seems like a good person even though he can be perceived as arrogant due to the fact he really is smarter than average. I totally emphatize with you on wanting to sound so smart :)

Same, subbed at his original Dr Person reaction he did past week or so.. wanted to say Hi to a Sister after reading your mini life summary. I’m also a female born in a “different world”. I was born to a 15 year old Iranian, asylum seeking refugee in Spain with a 17y/o father. I moved a ton growing up, but i ended up going into Psychotherapy for grad school and getting my degree in Personality Disorders. I also looked up greatly to Dr Petersons work, watching his YT lectures just expanding my ability to not only think more critically when faced with opposing opinions as mine.. but more important, how to be able to stand my ground gracefully, and keeping my personal morals intact when faced with MH issues being weaponized through politics.
I find it ridiculousy sad how apparently his supporters consists of 80% males, as compared to us, females. Bc if thats true.. i have trouble understanding the outrage from these radical progressive women.. clearly men are flocking to Dr Peterson bc all these culturally deemed “male traits”, are clearly forcing them to suppress a ton of natural emotions they might never express, in order to be “more manly”.. im grateful for Dr Petersons work just with males, even, bc he’s essentially teaching our future spouses (Im not married yet) how to be a mentally strong, competent men, who are also learning how to use suppressed energy positively. I must admit watching even one full course (available for free on his UA-cam channel!!!) taught me more than 5 years of Psychology studies (BA+MA) have in actual psychology. The man is an absolute marvel of teaching.

It's easy to pass off a lot of the lefts inability to debate as just people being brainwashed. But there's many people online, especially since like 2018-19 ish that have been countering the rights arguments. I used to be right leaning until I heard good arguments that no one else was was using. If you're interested in watching good debates I'd check out Destiny's channel. But yes, the loud minority of the left does indeed make it very difficult to not see it any other way than a religion.

He is literally one of these most positive influences in the world right now reaching large audiences. People like to find one thing they disagree with a person on and throw the person away. Imagine the dystopian world you would leave if you played that out to its end.
Peterson is the newest capitalist apologist meant to demonize socialism by the 1%. He tells individuals that they are responsible for changing the systemic problems that exist. Jordan's solution to an asteroid hitting the earth would be sending a single person in a single rocket rather than a collective solution to it which would work. He of course gives all the dangers and evils of "communism" as his justification for exploiting workers around the world. Not a peep about capitalism's death count or corruption or evil.

He talks quite a bit about working with other people to achieve things individuals can not on their own. Cathy Newman appreciates the attempt at using her preferred debate style.

I’ve watched dozens of hours of Jordan Peterson content, and I’ve watched at least a dozen reactors listen to him, but you’re the first one that seems to be impacted by him in a way that I am impacted by him. Your example of food porn was spot on; I’ve had the exact same type of thought when listening to him… Not necessarily food porn but porn for your brain instead of your eyes, intellect porn, etc. Although any one of those phrases outside of this context would still probably come across as just naked people soo suppose your example is better lol

Just discovered this channel lately. Loved it!
JP has a way of moving outside of a subject, analysing it, and then presenting views of it back to his listeners in a summarial way which is concise, engaging and non-personal. And he does it over and over. There's lots of good speakers and good debaters and people who are engaging, but often, they still don't tick all these boxes and make you look at subjects in a new light in the way JP does. "If you can't figure out what someone's doing or why, look at the outcome and infer the motivation" should be a life lesson.
I like watching you watching videos of Jordan Peterson and admiring the man for his idea,intellect,words, and his genuine humanity. I'll be waiting for you to react to more of these.

I've been in awe of JP for some time. I agree with you: more people need to understand the brilliance of this man, and start paying attention to what he is saying, rather than what others are saying about him. From a social/political standpoint there are many with a vested interest in convincing their constituents that he is evil incarnate. But all one has to do is listen to know the truth. In regards to your comment about opening your mind to metal, please react to more Nightwish. ;-)
You are reacting and evolving in your discovery to Dr. Peterson the same way I did about two years ago. He is just mesmerizing and causes you to think on so many levels.

I didn’t go to college. I was too busy building my life and my own path and career. But, I’ve never, ever stopped self-educating myself. And it’s EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to build your vocabulary!! One word can replace 10 in a sentence. And it sure allows you to be persuasive, helpful, etc.
Thank you for covering these, some things Jordan says is silly, but a lot of it is truly profound. People lost the ability to dismiss certain arguments and keep listening to a provably intelligent person who, with so much to say, will get stuff wrong. Anyone who gets triggered by Peterson, needs to do a self evaluation
If he wouldn't subvert the narrative, cherry pick stuff to prove his points, and coming out with some very bad faith arguments, nobody would get triggered.
Especially people who knows in depth what Peterson is talking about.
Specifically on this video he committed a key mistake: he adopted his point of view, his values, his logic and frame of reference coming from living in this time, to judge another man that had another point of view, different values, another kind of logic, another frame of reference because he lived in a different time.
By doing that, he left out and missed many key details and motives of why Hitler and nazis did what they did.

If anything he showed how it is important to have an historical studies background to discuss on an academic level historical facts.

He didn't make value judgments based on modern values and perspectives at all. He made no assumptions about why they believed it. What he did is examined the choices the Nazis made in distributing their resources in the specific context. He concluded that, even when the war wasn't going well and the Nazis could have used the materials and manpower from the camps for the fight, they instead maintained the camps. From this, it is evident that they prized murder over victory.

To make his own hipotesis on how he would had behaived in that specific situation hes used his own logic and assumptions to point out what the most sensed thing to do would be for him. Now, Hitler had no interest to feed and care properly the Jews, minorities, prisoners and the disabled becuase in his mind, these people had to die anyway: what's the point of making their existence more cushy? Nothing. He didin't believe in treating prisoners with decency or respect. Peterson gave away in many occasion what is his idea of Hitler way of reasoning and it was nothing like the real one. He said Hitler was a very orderly person obsessed by hygiene and clenliness. Peterson thinks that from that clenliness and hygiene thing derived the fact he wanted to clear the World from anything that stains it, and among those we find minorities and inferior races. This idea is flawed, as he posthumously diagnosed Hitler with an hygiene and clenliness obsession as you cannot diagnose a patients unless you examine him by speaking to him, as a psycologist would do, you can't be certain. You are making a profile, not an accurate diagnose. Hitler did it out of hate and antisemitism, as he believed in racist propaganda since his youth, as Jews were thought by the extreme right to be the creators of socialism and communism, as some left wing intellectuals were partially Jews. It ties with the centuries old antisemitism that was present in the continent since the Middle Age. Marx himself was half Jew even though he didn't practiced the faith.
Then WW1 came, Germany lost and Hitler, a far right wing veteran believed to the myth of ''the left that stabbed Germany in the back despite the fact they were winning against the allies'', supported by the military and conservatory nobility class, from which so many generals and officers came. This way they could shift the blame of the defeat, while knowing 100% that the German Army was in shables by 1918, It could not replace any man or equipment lost on the field and was sufficient even the smallest allied offensive to bring them down on their knees. And they were conceous about the fact that THEMSELVES were responsable for it. This way they could clean their reputation and try to get rid of the hated socialist left. Now, many veterans knew how really things were and didn't believed that lie. Unfortunately not people like Hitler.
Hitler did it also because in his mind those people were a burden on society. They were, in his mind, during the Great Depression and even in a war economy. He wanted to feed and care for peoplehe deemed as Germans and them only. We have countless evidence of how he did it out of a deep hate and economy motives and not out of an obsetion for clenliness and hygiene. Before the war they were even planning to ship all Jews and minorities in Madagascar. Real thing go check it. They built a camp system designed to kill them as they were, in their mind a dead weight. The SS command that managed the camps even estimated how much an average prisoner would last, and made estimations on how much they would had earned renting them as slave labour for German companies that required unpayied workers in the plants built nearby. The life expentancy was of some months. They were perfectly fine with it. It clicked very well with their idea to getrid of them quick. The idea was making them useful in the few months they managed to survived. To get rid of the unfit and weakened by the working routine, poor diet and sicknesses they made the gas chambers. Then after they got rid of the previous prisonersthey started with the next ''batch''. This way they could feed them as little as needed, while they were consumed by the unsustainable work routine, poor hygiene and bad diet and illnesses while making something useful. That is killing two birds with one stone.
Another issue is that Peterson reasoning is based on knowing the outcome of the war. Hitler did not had such luxury. Remember he started the war thinking he was going to win.
With the power of hindsight we can be all great leaders, generals and professionals in ANY field.
He's only polarizing to the people who bought the biased press lies and didn't actually listen to him. Those people are embarrassing to the human condition.

Speaking of open mindedness one of Jordans 12 rules for life is "Assume the person you are speaking to might know something you don't" He follows this even when being yelled at, talked over, and insulted. With that sort of discipline the rude person/s has already lost the argument.

The algorithm has never allowed me to see your content despite the fact you talk about things I'm interested in, until you reacted to Peterson. You are quite articulate and interesting as well and clearly on a journey.
You comment frequently on how you admire Peterson's manner of speech and careful analysis of the topics he talks about; it's a bit of a deeper cut, but something JP pushes is that one of the most attractive masculine qualities is to be a civilized but also dangerous/competent man, and like many things he says this is misconstrued, but by dangerous he means capable of articulating with precision the things you think, and feel, and believe. It's a piece of a puzzle who's message can only be seen when you do the work to complete the puzzle. People mock his "clean your room" mantra but by respecting yourself, being competent, cleaning up the mess you have made of your life, cleaning up your environment, and treating yourself like someone you love, you share the results of that work with everyone in your life, uplift the people around you, and spread the stability you have wrought to the environment around you. You have to be greater than the sum of your parts. Ultimately that is the responsibility Dr. Peterson wants us to take.
You’re clearly a sharp young fella. My vocabulary and use of it grew when I started reading seriously. I target a book a week for short periods (3 months)
When I hear Jordan Peterson speak it just inspires me to want to dig deeper into what I'm currently involved in. For example I am studying the Bible and to hear how he breaks things down gets me having to think on a deeper level. I got to be honest some of the stuff he says goes right over my head but I'm looking forward to hearing his lectures on the Bible because I've heard so many positive things about them. Great videos great content I look forward to listening to more
