*Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the UA-cam algorithm thrives on titles and thumbnails that could be perceived as clickbait. Although I find this particularly distasteful, as a means of reaching a new audience or encouraging my current audience to invest their time into my videos, I must work with the algorithm rather than against it. Statistics have highlighted just how effective aligning titles with the algorithm is and although this can be frustrating for many (myself included), I will always ensure that my titles:
    1. Never promote false promises or unrealistic expectations.
    2. Will more often than not ask a question.
    3. Are worded in a manner that although might be perceived a certain way, are still open to interpretation.
Appealing to more potential viewers gives me the opportunity to further the spread of what I believe to be useful information surrounding the topic in question, in addition to a positive message which often surrounds mental health, with the goal of helping as many people as possible.
It should also be noted that the majority of my videos are based on audience suggestions. ~90% of my audience are women, therefore, the majority of videos are created to appeal to my dominant audience.
It must also be noted that although goals often vary amongst individuals, a lot of my opinions on movements are within the context of building muscle (hypertrophy) and therefore, should be considered with that in mind.
Thank you for giving me your time.*

    Video Notes:
Won't say too much since we've talked more privately about it, but always proud of you for your vulnerability, and while you do struggle, you are one of the strongest (not just physically) and most resilient people I know, and you bring a light to thousands of people. You are a brave man and I'm more grateful for you than you know. I'm sure many in your audience would say the same thing. Your honesty is a huge asset in today's mental health climate. Always nothing but love for you Big Man x

Speaking from experience, it certainly breaks my heart to see someone feel so defeated by weight gain. You are not a failure. You are worthy regardless of your weight.❤️

    • @MaryGershwin
      @MaryGershwin Рік тому +8

It is such a slippery slope when people recognize your weight loss and tell you how impressed they are and that you look awesome. On the one hand I want people to notice my hard work and tell me that it actually shows that I am putting in the work. On the other hand these compliments feed so much into my self worth so when I fall back and gain weight it feels like I loose worth the more weight I gain. People don't tell me "oh, you gained weight" and if they did I would probably never leave my house again, but when the praise stops because I am no longer putting in work every single day, it kinda feels like I am only worthy as long as I am "productive" and working. As if only the things I achieve define my worth.

@@MaryGershwinI relate so much to this. This was one of the causes for my ED. It's kinda sick when praise turns to concern, but concern keeps fueling it just as much.

Thanks for being so open about your mental health. I basically worked for two years while being burnt out without realising it until my body gave up on me. I ended up quitting my job in order to fully recover. As of right now, my mental health is the best it has ever been because I took this break. Focussing on your healing is always worth it and you don't let anyone down by doing that.

I'm so happy you are still here. You are making such an impact talking about mental health in a space dominated by physical health. I just heard a brilliant podcast on NPR in which they interviewed a philosophy professor named Clancy Martin who lives with suicidal ideation and just wrote a book, How Not to Kill Yourself, for people struggling with suicidal thoughts but who also want to live. I found he had a lot of very profound experiences to share on the topic to help folks understand how a person can hold two seemingly incompatible thoughts.

I know I’ve faced many moments like that, and I’m honestly grateful for them. They sucked lol but I wouldn’t be where I am without them. I hope Linda can continue to heal, because like you said, she seems to really need that self-love. I certainly struggle a lot with self-love, but it’s okay to take it a step at a time. And! Taking care and putting yourself first is the most important thing. Without you everything around you crumbles. Don’t worry about losing viewers, clients etc those people will continue to support you if they’re genuine and see you as the human as well. Take care of yourself and there will be a rainbow at the end of the rain. This is a saying I’ve learned today as everyone goes through shit and it’s true after a nightmare good dreams come and the cycle continues… therapy is the most amazing thing that anyone can go through and it’s such a luxury and I’m very happy you can do the works with a dr’s help. Hugs

Harry, it breaks my heart to hear that you've felt so low. At the same time, I'm in awe of how brave you are to share something so deeply personal and vulnerable online. It's going to help so many people to see that they're not alone in what they're going through and that it's okay to speak up about it and seek help. You've made a hugely positive impact on so many people's lives (including mine) and the world genuinely is a better place for having you in it. I know it sounds cliché but I really mean that. Also, you are only human. You are allowed to take time off and rest. We all need it from time to time. I hope you don't forget to apply all that compassion and kindness that you have for others to yourself as well. Keep doing what you're doing because we all love you for it and (as you like to reming us) you are never alone!

Before the video begins, I just wanna thank you Harry for how much support your content provided me through my fitness journey. I’ve mentioned before that I’ve always loved fitness, but that piece of myself went dormant for a couple years. I felt really lost and unhappy, but I couldn’t get past how terribly I felt about myself, and didn’t know how to start. Since this is on the topic of mental health, your videos helped me get past that block by giving me somewhere to start with love. I don’t know how I can convey how HUGE that is to me. You genuinely helped me regain my passion for fitness, through your gentle nature and truly helpful information; and my life has never been better. Thank you thank you THANK YOU for all you do, you wonderful human ❤❤❤

Subscribed. Appreciate you sharing your experiences. Hope you are doing better now, but if not, do know others can relate. It's so important for guys to talk about this stuff though, mostly it's us women who are vocal about these things and BPD specifically is overdiagnosed in women and under diagnosed in men so it sounds like your therapist is astute. As someone with complex PTSD I can relate to a lot of similar symptoms and "coping" strategies. These things come and go and I hope you are learning more about your experience to find ways of coping that are less destructive. Much respect 💙

I very very rarely comment on UA-cam videos, but as a fellow human with BPD (I’ve had it most of my life and am now 32), it is very difficult to live with. Your story sounds very similar to mine in many ways. It’s so rare that I meet/see others with it, as many people don’t talk about having it due to stigma and media misrepresentation. It can get lonely, so I just wanted to say hello and thank you for sharing!🤗

Harry, this video is the first of yours I have watched and I immediately subscribed; I am excited to (likely binge) your videos and share them with others. You are so articulate, personable, and self-reflective; people like you help me in being more self-reflective which I welcome and am grateful for. I can relate to your experience- I have Bipolar I and PTSD and was hospitalized twice-- I tend to "fawn" and thus did not stay for long, i.e., I appeared very "with it", friendly, and self-aware, even though I was crumbling. Shame and guilt are very common and I understand you experiencing this- I wish it weren't so, but these feelings seem to be included in the equation. I admire you for pursuing healing and you are absolutely correct- there is a huge stigma for men who are struggling and it takes a lot of courage to open up. I have done some DBT work and with your motivation and self-awareness, I truly believe this will help so much. (I am not trying to be pretentious and if I seem to be "summing up" the complexity of who you are (the complexity of all us, really) that is not my intention!). As you may know, DBT was developed by a therapist and professor (Marsha Linehan- a joy to listen to) who struggled with BPD. I try to avoid offering advice because of my nature of trying to "fix" things, but I do want to offer a resource that has has, and continuously does, help me, and that is UA-camr Heidi Priebe. Many of her videos address guilt and shame that accompany mental health struggles. Again, your video is one of the most insightful and beautifully expressed that I have watched and I am thankful that I clicked on it. (Fitness is a big part of my life and is some of my favorite video content and so there you were!)
And to this community, what an affirming and positive group of people! :)

I don't want to take away from her struggle or her vulnerability, but I do always get the ick when someone records a mental breakdown. Idk but when I experience feelings like that, pointing a camera at myself, then watch myself break down while editing and then thinking to myself: "Yup, that's aesthetic for social." is about the last thing on my mind.
As for your personal story, I'm so sorry you have to experience such traumatising feelings and I hope you will find a way to live in peace. Self forgiveness is hard to achieve, I'm not there either, but I do believe that it will be key. We're enough, we're human beings at our core. Not human doings. ❤

It's heartbreaking to hear that such a nice a positive human being like you, has also very very dark days. If I can give you a piece of advice : complementary to your talk therapy, maybe you could try yin or restorative yoga (tier YT channels according to me : yoga with Kassandra, Devi Daly yoga). It helped me in a way I couldn't even imagine. Take care of you🤗

Harry…I hope that you always put yourself and your mental health first. I hope that you continue to heal. I hope that in your darker hours that you remember all the lives you touch in a positive way, and there are many…in your real life and on social media…and that remembering always draws you back to the light and gives you hope when you have little. I hope that one day you can see yourself as we see you…a beacon in this community, and a genuinely good and kind human being. I hope that your heart will soon find that your success is not in the future of the algorithm…but is already had in the now…that you may see it in the comments of all the lives you’ve already touched. I hope that your disappointments are few and far between and that you know that even when you might be in yourself…we aren’t. You’re a good one Harry.

Even if you are saying it as a joke please don't say "Thank you for tolerating me." Not only is that a harmful notion but it hurts me to see that you might think that people who genuinely like and love you for who you are, are only putting up with you. I understand that it might be hard for you to internalize the affection that others have for you but please don't you minimise your own goodness because of it.
Thank you for finding the courage to be vulnerable and share your mental health struggles with all of us. Wishing that you recieve all the love, care and growth you desire. You are amazing. ❤

I really like Linda’s video and many people have showed the dark side of better help. I think Linda overall has been really great about being vulnerable and open about her body image and health journey. The same criticism is leveled at many other brands that frequently sponsor online creators like hello fresh, Amazon, shein etc. I agree that content creators should be able to better vet the sponsors or companies they work with and for people to give grace to people because not every creator is constantly on UA-cam watching those types of videos etc.

I commend you for discussing telehealth platforms. The marketing behind these services is so over the top that it always comes off as a 🚩 to me, especially when mental health is commodified as part of the "gig economy". I tend not to comment on someone's mental health journey because that's not my place, and no one should feel the need to share that online as it's a very personal thing (esp their own therapy sessions). However, if they decide to use it as a currency, as a brand to promote something they can monetize, it's becoming problematic.
Despite the challenges you have faced, you continue to approach your content with honesty, respect, and responsibility. That's truly admirable ❤

First of all i'd like to honour your vulnerability Harry. I think it is one of the most important truth in life to admit that we dont have it all together yet. None of us are. But i think one of the biggest factor of mental health these days is of how we connect and engage with each other/ the world. It has its' own advantage but also disadvantage.
So I m in my early 40, a mother of 2 teenagers. Back in the days where Social Media was not heard of, we interact with other human being in a much simpler way. These days i feel that although we have many "friends" but we have, if none, then very few true friend who we can share, genuinely connect with, being honest and accountable for. I m living in this same current and is still learning how to navigative myself in this changing social norm.
However, i m blessed to have people in life i can trully called "friends". Sometimes we need to just share our life journey with and talk to, and we hear theirs too. And learn, pick up what works for them, for us, whats not and why.
Sometimes being understood and listened too is all we need. A professional psychologist may need another psychologist to help them too.
This isn't an advise nor answer for anyone. I just want to encourage. One thing i m reminded of is about HOPE : It is a substance.
It Is like a battery. It can recharge you, it gives you energy, To move forward, to keep going, ... to not giving up.
So have Hope and stay humble❤
We fall but we keep on getting up.

Great video! However I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you say bpd. I thought you meant borderline personality disorder but you brought up mania so it sounds like bipolar disorder. Not sure what’s it’s called in the uk but bpd is the acronym for borderline personality disorder in america

Hi Andrea. I have bipolar I and so have experienced mania. BPD sufferers may also experience mania and may even rapidly cycle. There are some similarities so I can understand your comment. BPD is one of the most stigmatized disorders which makes it so difficult for people to open up about it. This is the first video of Harry's that I have watched and I agree, it is a great video! :)
      Take care!

Hey Harry, you keep saying you feel like you've let us down by allowing yourself to get to the state that you did. None of us have the right or ability to pass judgement on you for where you ended up. I notice you almost treat yourself and your mental health like you're collective property. It's true that many of us care about you, but that doesn't mean that we, our opinions or our wants should have influence over your mental or your self talk. We want you to be in the best place you can be. We don't care how you get there. We don't judge you for failing. We don't feel let down by you. We just want what's best for you.
