Just saw this after posting about empty walls.. Occupied Tears is really good too.. hope to get some likes on these cuz they are definitely overlooked on his Solo stuff
The backup vocals by Daron are always overlooked. His band Scars on Broadway has some sick tracks to check out as well, like Lives or Guns Are Loaded. Dude is crazy talented, and was the perfect compliment to Serj's vocal performance, but his other work also can stand on its own.
LYRICS Life is a waterfall We're one in the river And one again after the fall Swimming through the void We hear the word We lose ourselves But we find it all? 'Cause we are the ones that want to play Always want to go But you never want to stay And we are the ones that want to choose Always want to play But you never want to lose Aerials in the sky When you lose small mind You free your life Life is a waterfall We drink from the river Then we turn around and put up our walls Swimming through the void We hear the word We lose ourselves But we find it all? 'Cause we are the ones that want to play Always want to go But you never want to stay And we are the ones that want to choose Always want to play But you never want to lose Aerials in the sky When you lose small mind You free your life Aerials so up high When you free your eyes Eternal prize Aerials in the sky When you lose small mind You free your life Aerials so up high When you free your eyes Eternal prize
I remember trying to figure out what this song was about when it came out. I've always thought it was about losing your identity and becoming like everyone else. Daron, the guitarist from the band, once said it was how it was the beauty of mentally handicapped children seeing the world. But they also said the song was about nothing too. Idk.
I fell into this first-time-reaction playlist yesterday, might have seen around 15 by now. From all the similar videos, yours is the best. I love how you add a smart interpretation at the end!
Finally some good old System Of A Down! Clicked on the video and pressed like right away, I already KNOW that your reaction will be great. Love ya, man! Also, I want to suggest : Avenged Sevenfold - Afterlife (Live In LBC) You will NOT regret it! Have a dope ass day ❤️
@@jonbryant610 actually no, I wasn't. I already suggested the live version of Afterlife, but to be honest, I think that he'd like Know too, so let's just say that it was a hidden suggestion, haha.
Not entirely sure why exactly, but I actually love seeing this. Seeing someone hear System, Slipknot, A7X etc for the first time and actually going in with an open mind and curiosity. Brings me back to the days I was finding this sorta thing for myself. Also hearing other peoples opinions from an (through lack of a better term) outside (HipHop head) point of view. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's nice to see the walls around different genres and cultures break down and merge to make an even better whole. Love the energy you have in your videos.
Great video Alex, love the coffee face lol! Try out some Scars on Broadway (Daron Malakian's band, he was the guitarist and main songwriter for SOAD) . Hope that helps for future reactions!
I've noticed you've done some System of a Down songs, but NO Serj Tankian solo songs yet. (Serj is the lead singer of SOAD). You should definitely do some reactions to his solo stuff. This is one of the songs where I can hardly think of it without thinking about how great the video is with it. (Also I just recently saw a video where they were playing this song at a concert and lightning flashes in the background at the exact moment the ending part kicks in.)
My old dog had three daughters one litter ans I ended up naming them aftrr SOAD songs~ Toxica, Suey and Aerial. I only have Aerial now, she's a very good girl

There's a full clip of him at lowlands a few years back on YT, definitely check that one as well. Great show of how he's able to swing his voice across the spectrum
I had a job that I really really loved and I heard this song every night walking out. It was always quiet in the park (a BIG amusement park, one of the biggest on the east coast) at the time of night when I passed through, with this song blaring on an insane sound system. A place that was packed with thousands of people only an hour or so before (gotta love those Halloween event crowd sizes!) was dead empty. I had it all to myself and I always looked forward to it every night because the sound system sounded so good, no matter what it played, and I got to enjoy it either all by myself or with a few good friends. Brings back a lot of happy memories with fantastic people who are still like family (:
A lot of what he talks about are elements of Zen Buddhism, especially the "small mind" and the line "We're one in the river and one again after the fall", both concepts I read about in Shinryu Suzuki's "Zen Mind, Beginners Mind" book.

Black metal sometime down the line, too.
Song's about Zen Buddhism, they believe that the universe is like the flow of water and that when we are not alive we are part of a greater pool of water as in a river or lake, and that life is the waterfall that connects them. "Life is a waterfall, we're one in the river and one again after the fall." Just FYI.

LYRICS
Life is a waterfall
We're one in the river
And one again after the fall
Swimming through the void
We hear the word
We lose ourselves
But we find it all?
'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go
But you never want to stay
And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play
But you never want to lose
Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
Life is a waterfall
We drink from the river
Then we turn around and put up our walls
Swimming through the void
We hear the word
We lose ourselves
But we find it all?
'Cause we are the ones that want to play
Always want to go
But you never want to stay
And we are the ones that want to choose
Always want to play
But you never want to lose
Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
Aerials so up high
When you free your eyes
Eternal prize
Aerials in the sky
When you lose small mind
You free your life
Aerials so up high
When you free your eyes
Eternal prize
