Lenovo’s LOQ was my favorite budget gaming laptop last year, but is that still the case with the new 2024 redesign? I’ve tested the new Intel Arc and Nvidia GeForce configurations to find out!

Jarrod are you by any chance dodging my question?
Why is there no shipping to Germany?❤️🩹
Awful screen
The fact they include a native application to undervolt deserves massive praise. Fantastic video mate, I'll be sending this to every person who asks me what budget laptop they should buy.
how do you have no comments

Your video was the only one out of the major tech channels that actualy reviewed this laptop. After looking up many different models, I decided to settle on LOQ 15i with i7 13620H and rtx 4060, my god this was one of the best choices I ever made. I literally use it everyday with 4 game engines, 3 DAWs, and lots of high-end modeling software (without even counting all kinds of popular games XD); no matter what I threw at it, the LOQ handled it really well!
The reviews are going to come soon enough, but with Jarrod's video and my personal digging, I agree it was a great choice!
even with just a 4060?
@@GewelReal ikr this thing is just impressive
@@GewelReal4060 is enough for most people I am using 3050ti 4 gb 😂
I was unlucky last year cause I got an older Legion 5 model then just a few days after my unit was on transit/being shipped the LOQ devices hit the market. I could've got an equally good device while saving some money. Glad you like yours though. I must say I prefer the previous models to this year's. Even though Jarrod said the removal of the side vents didn't affect these lower end models I assume it may cause some issues on the ones with more powerful internals.
Seriously, your video is amazing. It is easy to understand and straight to the point. Keep it up, your good work.
Jarrod your content is the most informative I’ve ever seen! Keep it up!!
Working hard and overtime also saving a lot to get a loq 16. I have never owned a laptop.
same, lesgooo
soon enough
You can do it!!
It will all be worth it! Also get the 2023 LOQ, this years version might look better but it definitely is worse in every other way imo
Worst in what other ways?@@jaerys8823
Aside from downgrading the screen peak brightness by 50 nits and downgrading all USB-A to 3.2 gen 1 (from 3.2 gen 2 in last year's LOQ that 2 out of the 3 USB-A ports it had), by biggest gripe with this updated version is that the memory speeds were downgraded on all versions with intel CPUs except the 14th gen one. (From 5200 to 4800)
gotta pump those margins up!
2024 is the "get rid of leftovers" generation. Hopefully abysmal sales push prices down next year.
the fact that 3050 is still used, if the prices aren’t good, then u r just buying refreshed 2022-2023 models😂
@@shinefake48even 2021 probably.
but how about legion 5 2024 model? are they also downgraded compared to legion slim 5 2023
Good to see the FHD 144 Hz screens have decent colour accuracy compared to last year's LOQ 15/16 but response rate times definitely leave something to be desired and maximum brightness is 50 nits less than the equivalent panel from last years LOQ 15/16.
Can confirm the battery drain isn't a new issue - I have a 2023 LOQ with the same 3050/charger combination and in some less optimized games the battery drains significantly, even faster than in this video. I'm still happy with the laptop overall though, no other issues.
your vids literally made me buy the laptop, i'm rocking it for a month and a half and it's really really nice, it's the 12th gen 4050 variant
Hey man, can u tell me some things u don't like about that variant? I also wanted to get that one
I see in my local shop different specs from yours, for USD 730:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS
Memory: 8 GB SO-DIMM DDR5-5600
Graphics: RTX 3050 6GB GDDR6 Boost Clock.
Is this acceptable for the price or are they short changing me in terms of the lower processor/graphics card? What would you change? Thanks so much.
That keypad flex was crazy
Hope you make a comparison video soon with the 2023 model. Thanks for the video!
thanks for reviewing this! Really interested how Arc plays out
@Jarrod - would you say the removal of side vents kind of also helps mitigate fan noise since all the noise is shooting out the rear? I think Lenovo is doing these 2024 models good with the removal of the side vents.. like you said, it's super nice to not have hot air blowing on your hands.
Finally the review showed up.. was waiting patiently the whole week.. indeed, a splendid review.. just a quick question..
will there be a LOQ 16 version this year?
I want to left the soon-to-be obsolete16:9 and migrate the more preferably choice 16:10 for my new laptop.. highly considering LOQ as it fits my budget perfectly.. hope you can help me answer.. many thanks
I just bought this 2024 model yesterday, so far I’m very impressed!
Foam inserts to better control airflow inside looks interesting, I wonder if it could be worth retrofitting something similar on older laptops as a DIY modification 🤔
Can I replace the foam as well?
Hey Jarrod, How was the nvidia driver support on Linux?
Have you checked the VRAM temperatures under stress? Many 2023 RTX4060 units are reaching >100 degrees Celsius here easily
I have a 4050 from last year's model which works great as a work laptop. I liked the ledge they had on the back of the laptop so that's a shame, but otherwise looks pretty solid!
What should I look for in consistency when it comes to gaming laptops with the spec differences, since everything is always upgrading every year? Any recommendations?
I wish there was a config with the grey keyboard, but with this cleaner backside design.
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6, a rather popular laptop, even here in Romania. it has the RTX 3050 GPU, but the small 135w charger it came with cannot give it enough power to run games for a very long time, as the battery drains slowly. I got a 170w charger that does better, but the 230W would be perfect for it
Nice review , also review Predator Helios Neo 16 2024 when it becomes available and compare it with LOQ
Great video! How long should first charge be? Thanks in advance
20:30 Look at the 4gb 3050 result next to the Arc GPU. It's average is a tad lower but the 1% lows are much better. Look like Intel are still having some driver problems in Cyberpunk. Or for that matter look at the 4gb 3050ti that's just above it, it has 1% lows that are actually better than the Arc GPUs averages while still being a 4gb card.
thanks for the great video...as always. looks for me a less quality build as last year, the holes at the back looks very cheap plastic and especially with these new "foam" solution...i think over the time foam will burn, wear&tear due the constant hot airflow. they also offer the rtx4050 i513450hx with a 170w adapter seems for me not enough power here...
the 100+ minutes of difference in youtube playback is interesting this gen of gpu/cpu's i hope they can see the gaming numbers tick up and get the youtube hours closer to where they used to be.
i just picked up an open box 2023 version with the 3050 for $540(tax included), feel like it’s not a bad deal at that price. haven’t fiddled with it yet but the brightness is very good. a bit heavy but that ok. could realistically get a better laptop for a bit more i think but needed something now
Is great deal , 3050 with 6gb vram is more than enough for esport game , you have great choice
I got it for $800, must be some regional price stuff, kinda suprised when i find out, it ways more cheaper in US.
I GOT MINE OPEN BOX FOR $560 GREAT DEAL!!!!!
Те що мені було потрібно, дякую!)
Just what I needed, thank you!)
Is it worth it to wait for the core ultra gaming laptops or do I go with an 13th gen? I am aiming to buy the zephyrus m16 with 4080. Open to any opinions please
Just got LOQ 2023 with i5 13 gen, RTX 3050 for ~$510 open box at best buy. Should I return it and wait for this one to go on sale?
I Just ordered it. Cant wait to use it :P
Nice Video !
Hi, did you buy it do you recommend it ?
Hey Jarrod. Are you gonna review the asus rog scar 18 2024 with mini LED?😊
Nice review. But call me crazy, but I picked up an IdeaPad gaming 3 with a 7th gen ryzen 5 rtx 2050 8gv ram and 120 hz refresh rate. When testing my Anker 7 prime portable battery, the Lenovo loq only accepted 60 watts..... While the IdeaPad gaming 3 was 100watt, also the IdeaPad gaming had both the HDMI and type c port in back which makes more sense when connecting 2 displays. The IdeaPad gaming 3 2023 is an excellent choice with premium features
I was expecting i7 14700hx with 4060 . Usually you go for the higher varient not the low ends. Hope you do a review of the maxed version with i7 14700hx and 4060
Real
I also need to confirm my findings on the 14700HX LOQ.
I think the idea is "BUDGET"
up
i was expecting that instead of hx cpu, it uses meteor lake i7 ultra instead
Where does the Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9 fit in relation to these machines? It is available in the Aussie market.
What do you think of the infinity m17 rtx 4060, vs the infinity m17 with rtx 4060?
I am really having difficulties deciding between the 2023 vs 2024 version. Any pros and cons for each model? Assuming the specs are the same (e.g. 13500H vs 13450HX and both RTX 4060). Thermals are a huge point for me, as well as display. Thanks for all input and advice out there 🎉
Hey Jarrod,
Which WiFi card can I use for an upgrade? My WiFi speed is extremely slow… 😅 4:35
It’s probably the best bang for buck, but I find the thermals in my 2023 version to be poor, so I got an extra cooling pad, but I do like it to this day.
Hey Jarrod, could you review the MSI Katana GF76 11UE? I have it and its pretty good!
Can I use 230W charger on a LOQ laptop that came with 170w charger?
I have a loq 15 with 3050 6gb and i5 13th is GPU overclocking risky? or does It give you an advantage without additional hardware wear?
Sir please make a benchmark on Games like CS2 and valorant, for this LOQ 2024 i5 & nvidia 3050
Is the lenovo loq 15IRH8 , i5-12450H with the RTX 4060 ( 8gb vram ) good? Considering to get this for game design / development , modelling and blender usage with gaming as well.
just a question but does the lenovo LOQ 15 2023 also get the extreme option with updates or no?
Hi Jarrod, So in my region the last gen 4060 LOQ shipped with a 170 watt charger unlike other regions which got a 230 watt one.
Could you please run a benchmark or two on your 4060 Loq 16 with the charger which you got with the 3050 LOQ and see if there are any downsides of using a 170 watt charger?
And if I were to try someone's high wattage legion charger on the Loq would it be unsafe?
We've got used to interchangeable chargers with type c but with laptop chargers It's always scary to use something that didn't come with the laptop.
it feels like 1st April joke compared to 2023 with 4000nvidia. do they release more versions of LOQ over the year? cause everything seems to downgrade instead of upgrade from previous version
I got a loq 16 with a 4060, amd 7840hs, 16 gb ram 1tb hd for $800 ebay refurbished. Still has a 2 year warranty.
7:45 I have this loq with i5 13450hx / RTX 4050 variant, it has a bad battery drain when gaming on balanced and performance mode *while plugged in*. I have to basically reduce the CPU wattage to only 55w in custom mode to make it not draining the battery while gaming. Me and other loq users in the forum are trying our best to get something from lenovo, since this defect really make the battery take an extra beating in a long run and might not a good choice for user that plan to use it for more than 2 years of heavy usage.
Will this be good for freelance on the go designing? Graphics, video and 3d(blender, sketchup). Need second opinion. Thank you.
Hi sir, tnx for the reviews
I have a Lenovo Loq 2023 and its keyboard is british, want to know if the seller cheated me or if this lenovo loq really has a British keyboard?
please review Lenovo LOQ 2024 14th Gen i7 14700hx and rtx 4060
And i want it as soon as possible because you review the laptops best way possible.

@Jarrod'sTech Hey jarrod, in the internals segment I thought I saw space for a 2.5 hard drive, can you confirm if this is the case.
i found you yesterday whilst doing some research on what laptop i am going to purchase this week (msi Vector gp68HX 13VI-236AU as pretty much all other brands aren't sold here in Perth and are mail order only :(, we only have two really high end computer shops, PLE and Austin that stock laptops above 3 thousand dollars and they only have rog or msi) one of the factors in my decision was tech support. as getting gear from online stores or stores based over east means if they break like an MSI i owned previously to get it fixed i had to courier it back to Sydney to be repaired then sent back, so at least a week and a half with out the laptop if they can fix it. Admittedly this is an issue that is pretty much only applicable to Perth due to its remoteness and isolation. so was a factor in my decision.
and fell asleep to your voice siting at my computer lol.
would you consider making a review to ASUS CREATOR Q 530/540. Workstation / Gaming / Studio Really interesting.
May I ask if which one should I buy? The 2023 or 2024 version?
Got the Lenovo LOQ 15 Ryzen 7 7840HS yesterday for $699.99. Lenovo said it can take up to 32gb of RAM. But I read on some forums that it can work with 64gb. I got 2 32gb 4800MHz in there and it works fine. So, I have 64gb of RAM. I also added a 2TB NVME SSD to the 512gb that comes with the laptop (it has 2 slots). Nice deal from Best Buy. The best laptop for the money.
Hi,
very good test video :)
Right now, in my country, the Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) with i5-13450HX and RTX 4060 is on sale for under 900€. I was doing some research on my own as I heard this config could have problems with thermals.
As this test is done with a 3050, i was wondering if someone already got the config with the 4060 and has some insides on that topic :).
Also, does the i5-13450HX bottlenecks the 4060 in any kind?
Thanks a lot in advance
Please test LOQ 2024 which is i7 14700hx with rtx 4060 laptop may be these results vary and thermals concern
If you can catch one on sale (currently the AMD version is $700 at bestbuy) it can be a good budget gaming laptop (I actually bought one for photo editing as I mainly needed a dedicated graphics card and preferably a RTX 3050 or 4050 at minimum so this worked out for me. I wouldn't necessarily call this laptop mid-range though, but more on the budget side, but probably able to handle many games regardless. It's just puzzling why they only ship them with 8GB of RAM (easy fix obviously by getting a memory kit). (I should note that the one I got may be the 2023 version though).
Do you also have ghosting problems, especially when you move the windows window in "Settings" (white text that leaves a lot of blur) or does my computer have a problem?
Is this good for video editing and live streaming...?
Not the same port in the back. The USB 3.2 Gen 2 last year model then they give us now a USB 3.2 Gen 1 only.
How do you think compare to 2021 legion 5 pro : ryzen 7 5800h rtx3070 in overall?
The only thing i like is that the new chassis and screen can go up to 180 °. Right now I don't see any reason to choose this laptop especially in my country where the last year version is significantly cheaper than this one
Jarrod you have tested all the laptop last year. Did you get any laptop with coil whine issue in the mid to high range gaming laptop and how prominent the issue was with all laptop and when brand was the worst offender.
why do they not include other legion laptop (gen 8 and maybe 7) with the lenovo vantage update to "switch to custom mode with fn Q"... with a simple update
For the same reason they don't allow LOQ to get 64GB RAM even if it supports it as an upgrade option. To keep their other Legion laptops alive
upload a video based on the best gaming laptops in the price range of $1200 - $1300. it can be either launched ones 2023 or the upcoming ones in the 2024
It would be great if you could keep including battery drain in your reviews. I ended up returning my Slim 5i 2023 because the battery would fully drain while gaming in about 5 hours.
I have the same and I can agree, but it's my first even gambling laptop so I can't even complain
@@SweetMelaninn I have to respect Lenovo for at least allowing battery drain. On my previous ASUS TUF, if the battery started draining, the CPU would be throttled to 25 W, causing it to run at 2.4 Ghz (only half its rated speed). At least Lenovo gives you the option to maintain performance even if the charger can't supply enough power.
And I got a Legion 5i Pro 2023 after returning the Slim which doesn't generally have any issues with battery drain. It's so much better than the TUF in every way (apart from battery life), so I'm definitely sticking with Legion in the future.
@@nocommentarygaming2644 I was gonna get the Pro 5i but it's just too much for me. Glad to hear that's what you think of it
Asus is no match to Lenovo @@nocommentarygaming2644
Jarrod does Lenovo allow undervolting the HX parts in the LOQ? Intel does allow for undervolting the HX parts.

What is the relevance of purchasing Legion 5 Slim 7640+4060 FHD? The difference from a similar LOQ is close to $50. Is this slim worthy of attention in 2024? When should we expect the price to drop?

Hey guys and hello to jarrod.
Actually i have a question which i couldn't find any solution anywhere so this is my last try before changing the laptop itself.
I bought a asus tuf a15 2023 fa507nv about 2 weeks ago.
It always crashes all the time in all of my games and freezes in the windows desktop itself.
I did run stress tests , diagnosis , and did a clean install of windows 11 , updated all of the drivers and windows.
It is still like that and i'm sure the problem is not from the ram.
And the other problem is : my cpu is very normal work and nothing crazy like or gaming or opening many apps , working in high temperatures around 80 to 90 celcius. The laptop always is on turbo mode and i bought a cooling pad for it to reduce the temperature , but the problem of freezing and crashing still remains. Any ideas or solutions for this? Should i refund it? I'm sure the device is new and not a 2 handed.
Can you compare the lenovo loq with the predator helios 16?
Will you be reviewing the new Alienware m16 r2?
@JorrodsTech Can you please tell me the laptop you will recommend for best Price to Performance (with good build) under 1500 usd
Others opinion is also accepted
Hi Jarrod, I could really use your help, please, you might be one of the UA-camrs who I think knows the most about laptops, and I'm looking for a gaming laptop. Could you ask me the questions you need to help me find the best laptop for me (I don't really want to give you 2 or 3 criteria so that afterwards you tell me you need more information) thank you very much
Good day everyone. Got a question. Should I trade my 1.5-year-old Lenovo Legion 5 (11400h+3050+165 hz display+all plastic build) for a 2024 LOQ (13650HX+3050 6gb+144hz display)? Tnx a ton for helping
HELP what should I do, I need to choose a laptop for gaming, streaming, and daily use, what is better? The Lenovo LOQ 16 with i7-13620H, nvidia rtx4050 6gb, 16gb Ram or ASUS ROG strix g15 (g513rm), ryzen 7 6800H, rtx 3060 6 gb, 16gb ram?
hi can you say what is your personal pc or laptop?
pls
Am I crazy/the only one who would like for ideapad gaming to return? I'm not a huge fan of the gamer aesthetic, so I wish they came back with a sleek and sober design with current gen parts and at a budget price point.
It looks like Lenovo expect worsening of market conditions (find it difficult to ship laptops) and are downgrading their laptops across all their line-ups. This makes me think that the best option is to get something discounted as they trying to clear the 2023 models in Feb and March.
Like the Legion Pro 5i 4060 that Jarred had often on his deals selection from the US or a Legion Slim 5 4060 that can be found at a good price here in Europe.
I am thinking ti get the legion pro 5i 4060, so are you getting any discount ? As you said they are trying to clear the stuff so any discounts or anything any coupons ?
@@sufiyanmemon8659 I was thinking about the same model.
I'm in Europe, but my best option is to get it from B&H Video in the US, the offer that Jarrod had in his deals - $1250, with shipping and VAT this will be 1450 euro for me. The same model in my country in Europe is $1800 and up 🤦♂
My next best option is Legion Slim 4060, Ryz 5, 16Gb, 512 SSD, no OS for 1200 euro from a local seller, but this has lower spec in every area.
I'm tempted to wait another month or two for more aggressive clearing offers, but might miss these.
