Looks like a great laptop. A few months ago, I bought an Acer Predator Helios 300 with an RTX 3070, i7 12700H, and 1440p 165hz IPS screen for $930. I was debating whether or not to go for it since the parts are 1-2 generations old, but there hasn't been much improvement on the CPU or GPU side in that price range. Overall I'm very happy with it, the most demanding game I play is Elden Ring, and it maintains 60 fps at 1440p max settings (no RT) in 95% of cases. I would've loved to get something like this, but it costs ~50%-100% more than what I bought so I'm still very happy with my purchase.

No, pretty much all of them do lmao, it’s just less noticeable depending on material. For example two laptops running at 80 under load, one is metal and one is a worse plastic construction, of course it will feel hotter on the metal laptop. But no gaming laptop will run “cool” to the touch
This has to be the sexiest laptop I have ever seen in my entire life. The white color is truly amazing, which sets it aside from the typical gray or black.

Picked this exact laptop up a few weeks ago. Glad it got your stamp of approval! Do you have a recommendation for a 140W USB-C charger? Looking for one to keep in my backpack.
I like it, but It's interesting that you are picking a laptop with a 4070. I am on the fence between a 4070 and a 4080 for a laptop for video editing and some gaming.
Thanks for the review! I'm debating between this legion 7i and the Yoga Pro 9i. I don't play the most demanding games but i do play rdr or fifa after work for a few hours and on weekends. I value display, battery life and low fan noise. Any advice? Thanks!
I was also looking at these two. It seems the battery life is similar on both. The 7i has a more power hungry HX chip but that is offset by a larger battery than the Yoga, so they should be similar. Battery life in general is not great on these machines, only Asus has decent battery life but they have annoying fan noise and some reliability and warranty issues. The Yoga has a better miniLED display, but at the same price range as the 7i it comes with a 4060 instead of a 4070, not a huge difference but worth noting. In terms of fan noise they have both reviewed quite well, see Dave2D’s vid. In theory the Yoga should be quieter but Im not sure if you could tell in real world use. I personally went with the Legion 7i, I recommend seeing both at a best buy and seeing what you prefer, it sounds like either would be fine for your needs.
I guess the only reason to get this over the Slim 5 might be the better build quality and some nice to have stuff like per key RGB, glass TouchPad, higher res screen, better speakers and all. Coz when factoring in the charger, it weighs the same as the Slim 5 (although it is very Slim for sure).
Dude, thanks so much for this. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to decide on so many laptops for my small business and personal use. After much back and forth and research and getting out of my own head to have the most flagship device I decided on one of these. And I’m glad I did because I got a WQXGA model with all the bells and whistles for $1800 through the Lenovo Business shop. Plus I get 2x points so the deal was just too good to pass up. I had to just go with the black model because the white was priced higher for no reason whatsoever but I can’t thank you enough for your thorough review. It made the purchase decision much easier.
Great review Jarrod So im contemplating to buy between Legion 7i and Zephyrus G16. Would like to know which is great value for its spec? My research show is either 7i (Upgradability & Performance) VS G16 (OLED & Built Quality/Design) User review show G16 run quite loud and hot during normal task. Would appreciate comments on these 2 products since it would cost 1999 usd to get these upgrades. *coming from Lenovo Y510p 660 USD @ 2013😂. Thanks
I dunno why i should take this one instead of the new Yoga 9. You get a full aluminum body, a better mini LED high contrast ratio 1200 nits display and much better battery life in low performance tasks (Core Ultra CPU). Thoughts?
Depends what you need. Sounds like the Yoga will be better for you; this machine will be better for people prioritising performance over efficiency/battery.
Hi Jarrod, I returned my Legion 7i as I was having black screen issues after 20 days of use, now I am stuck between getting this again or the new Yoga 9i with meteorlake CPU, will you ever do a comparison of both, I want to know if the slight less gaming and 3D software performance is worth the extra battery efficiency, thanks
I just got this laptop and love it. If I had to gripe about a couple things, I'd say the touchpad feels like a loose, rattling aluminum can versus the solid "thump" of Lenovo machines from 3-4 generations back. Also, it's confusing that they include a large 230W silicone charger and are marketing this as a portable laptop. They introduced the more portable 330W GaN chargers for the larger Pro models, which seems a bit backwards to me.
Bought it a couple days ago maxed options, glacier white, 32 ram, 1TB storage, windows 11 pro and can’t wait for it to arrive. I’ll come back to the video and comment after a week of use what I think and if I think you should get it 🫡
I'd rather save bit more for a Scar16..with an RTX4080 comparatively cheaper than others. Also , they're having better display than even legion 7 pro series. So good balance for me I think😅 What do u think sir?
No, there's no point, 14900HX is basically the same as 13900HX, not worth an entire video, the laptop is the same otherwise as the video I did last year.
thanks for making this, its at a perfect time where I am in the market to buy a laptop and this lenovo seems perfect. I was literally wishing you would make this (review of new legion), I follow most of your videos. Where can I buy that model you reviewed??
hi dear friend i just bought the omen 16 Transcend with the following specs: i7 13700 HX 16 cores 24 thread , 16GB RAM , screen IPS near to Qled 165 Hz refrech rate and 400 nits with 100 SRGB, RTX 4060 8GB , 1000 GB SSD NVME 4 and battery 97 mA about 9 hours of battery life, but it is and exellent LAPTOP PC i bought it for 2500 dollars
I am looking at this for my next laptop. I am looking at 2 different configurations from best buy, an i7 and 4060, and an i9 and 4070. There's a $300 (USD) price difference. And some of the reviews comparing the i9 in this to the 7i pro show noticeable hits in the CPU performance due to thermals to the point where the Core i7 seems like a more reasonable CPU option, but then I have to go down to the 4060 graphics. I would love to see a comparison of these 2 configs to see how much of a difference it is between them really is to see if the i9/4070 is worth the extra $300.
Wow kudos for the back light bleed!!!!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 Reviewers don't usually do it so kudos!! I've sent back my new legion 5 pro 23 because the bleeding was not good
Hey, superb video. I just have a question, as the laptop can be considered slim laptop, well it is a rebranded slim, Will the thermals overtime deteriorate the components and thermal throttle ? over the span of just 2-3 years
Interested to see what you think of the G16 when you get it. I just ordered a 7i after returning my G16 due to poor (high pitched) fan noise. Edit: Also keep an eye (or ear) out for coil whine on your unit, in the form of a buzzing noise. Mine and HardwareCanucks both had this noise.
I just realized, the Pro 7's review isn't out yet. Kinda surprising to me. Although, I do wish that they give the thing a white colored painjob and a clearer mode color on the power button rather than just a mere dot. Doesn't have to be a fingerprint scanner, just make it more blatant
Hi Jarrod. Thank you for your review. What would be your recommendation between this year legion 5i vs 7i both with rtx 4070? Is there much difference in game performance between the i7 and i9? Thank you
I have been researchong for months to upgrade from my almost 7 year old Acer laptop. This definitely seems like a great upgrade to it thats within my price range. My only real question is how future proof it is.
Nice review, Jarrod! I'm considering buying this laptop with the Intel Core i7-14700HX + RTX 4070, but I've read that Intel 13th/14th gen processors have some issues. Have you encountered any problems so far? I want this laptop to last me about 3-4 years. Otherwise, I'm thinking of getting the Legion Slim 5 with the Ryzen 7 8845HS + RTX 4070. Thanks!
As for the overclock, if you do it make it for all laptops (it's probably just a tiny difference but just to be fair), also you could make a test let's say in 2 games with and without the overclock to see how it performs
I'm deciding between this or the rog strix 16, both with the same configuration. Could you help me by telling me which one has better cooling? I'm really enjoying these videos
Still prefer the 2022 Models, Make 2 lines up one competes with the more Thicc laptop 💻 from ASUS Strix and MSI, this design competes with Razer Blade and ROG Zephyrus.
First laptop to make me justify a purchase since 2013. Laptops were so underpowered compared to desktops before. The fact that a 14900hx is similar to a 12700k in performance is crazy.
Lorna Shore!! Great review btw. In the market for a laptop that excels in programming and gaming. Any recommendations for best all around gaming laptop? Not concerned with budget, but also don't think spending thousands of dollars is necessary to get a good all around device.
guys i have the last year slim 7i , just to be honest u even cannot utilise this machine fully , so practically tbh there is no sense of buying the 2024 variant , until until u use some very very demanding cpu intensive software , i have the i9 13900 h along with 4060 , its quite a beast , the only drawback i feel are the speakers ((**casual to semi pro gamers ))
Highly considering buying one of these or a g14. Could you explain why in some instances (like with the g14) the cooling pad will reduce noise and others (like the 7i) it won’t? I’m assuming it’s the profile completely maxxing the fans regardless of thermals. Thanks!
It has to do sometimes with the design of the bottom panel. If there aren't enough holes for air to get in, no amount of cooling pads will make a difference 🙂
Please cover XMG Neo 16 2024 fully, when it comes out. It seems like it is the best option considering its price/performance ratio, since they've fixed its build quality.
I was sold after your review. to buy that model laptop in Ireland quite is expensive. The white model with i9 CPU 4070 GPU 1TB 16GB ram Lenovo wanted €2760.00. I got onto their text chat customer services online and managed to negotiate the price down to €2300.00. I know its still a bit pricey for a RTX4070 but the brand is solid and I also need it for work so it has dual purpose.
Great review! I like you describe everthing, then run tests. I hate reviews that re-state the marketing literature and specs with no value added, except ai re-writing! I agree it would be better to have the I/O moved backwards.... The laptop is suddenly occuping a lot of desktop space. I have heard the Legion 7i is based on the 2023 Slim, but I think you said it correctly, it replaces the slim 7i. There is no new 2024 Slim 7i model for US, Canada, Europe, or Aus/NZ per psref. Thanks
I have a 2024 Razer 14 which is amazing, but I switched to this for the daily desk work laptop and bigger screen. This is a great video to maximize this laptop.
Thank you for the review. Question: can the 3k2k screen run games in 1600p or 1440p just fine or do you notice any blurriness? In my country there are only 3k2k screen options available.
I managed to get a good deal on a 12th gen i7 - 4070 Asus TUF for less than $1k US. I don't think ill need an upgrade for years to come. After months of use, I wish the VRAM buffer was larger than 8GB's. Great video
I plan to grab this one, but only the Glacial White model is available at the place i plan to buy it. Do you think its easy to get dirty? Or would it be fine? Thank you.
That’s what I’m wondering! Seems to be that this laptop doesn’t come with an optional OLED but it receives more power so its gpu will do better. From my own research it seems to just be what do you need out of the laptop
I had a G16 and am now typing this from the 7i after returning it. Much happier with this machine. G16 has a nicer screen but I really like the one on 7i as well. Better keyboard, and the fans don’t sound like death which is why i returned the G16
Stumbled upon this channel and absolutelyy enjoyed ur reviews!! Hope to get some opinions here, how does legion 7i (2024 model) compare with Razer blade 15 (2022 model)?
Looks like a pretty good laptop. It's disappointing that the GPU only has 8GB of VRAM on the lower end models and in order to get the 12GB version, you have to spend a lot more. Seems like not much of a difference versus last years laptops as they have the same specs pretty much.
Personally, I prefer performance and features over it being thin and sleek. I don’t mind it being thicker or a little bit loud to get the extra performance and features that I really want. I wish Lenovo would’ve made a line specifically for users like this.
I'm looking for my first gaming laptop/pc. Would this be enough to handle FPS games like overwatch2? or do you think a laptop with more power /performance would make a huge difference? Its a bit overwhelming how many options there are
Not gonna lie, that very impressive cpu temp suring stress test because, this is not super thick or wide laptop like msi titan, no side vents, under 2,4kg weight, fan noise still not stupid loud
I used the 7940hs 4070 slim 7 from the previous gen. I was going to replace my non slim legion 7 3070ti . the 4070 slim performed slightly better in fps but kept having micro stuttering. It would say 100 fps but the 90 on my 3070ti felt smoother. I ended up returning the 4070 slim, noticed the same with legion 5 slim 4070 13700
Hey jarrod, had question. What are the specific charger and cables capabale of charging this through USB-C? Been browsing like hell through all reddit and youtube but couldn't find an answer. Please suggest.
Hey Jarrod, after almost only seeing tested laptops with mostly midrange to high end specs I have been wondering if you’re still gonna test some more cheaper 1080p budget laptops because we now got the Acer Nitro V 15, Acer Nitro 14,16&17 and MSI thin 15.

How does the build quality compared to 2024 ROG Zephyrus G16? Is there noticeable difference in rigidity?
Dude, thanks so much for this. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to decide on so many laptops for my small business and personal use. After much back and forth and research and getting out of my own head to have the most flagship device I decided on one of these. And I’m glad I did because I got a WQXGA model with all the bells and whistles for $1800 through the Lenovo Business shop. Plus I get 2x points so the deal was just too good to pass up. I had to just go with the black model because the white was priced higher for no reason whatsoever but I can’t thank you enough for your thorough review. It made the purchase decision much easier.
Excellent thermals, Lenovo did a great job there.
Just got this bad boy, can’t wait to play on it!
How’s it?
Great review Jarrod
So im contemplating to buy between Legion 7i and Zephyrus G16. Would like to know which is great value for its spec?
My research show is either 7i (Upgradability & Performance) VS G16 (OLED & Built Quality/Design)
User review show G16 run quite loud and hot during normal task.
Would appreciate comments on these 2 products since it would cost 1999 usd to get these upgrades. *coming from Lenovo Y510p 660 USD @ 2013😂. Thanks
I want to compare them in a dedicated video I'm just waiting on ASUS For ages to lend us a G16.
Hi Jarrod, nice review!
Also, which is the best budget gaming laptop of 2024?
Battery life should be similar on both units since the 7i has a larger battery to offset the higher CPU power
So good balance for me I think😅
What do u think sir?
Please compare 13700hx vs 13900hx vs 14700hx vs 14900hx because we all are confused? Which CPUs laptop to buy, since old models are cheaper.
Will you review the Pro 7i Gen 9 with the 4080/4090? Because I plan on getting that, and I want to know what to look out for
No, there's no point, 14900HX is basically the same as 13900HX, not worth an entire video, the laptop is the same otherwise as the video I did last year.
thanks for making this, its at a perfect time where I am in the market to buy a laptop and this lenovo seems perfect.
Lenovo still dominates, happy to see it
I am looking at this for my next laptop.
I've sent back my new legion 5 pro 23 because the bleeding was not good
Waiting for an in-depth review of the Asus Zephyrus G16. I wonder how it compares to this.
I'm not getting a new laptop this year but i do hope they keep this form factor next year and up to the time we get rtx 5000 series graphics cards
Great review! Stuck between this, the pro variant (2024), and the G16... Need your reviews :)
I'm really enjoying these videos
lenovo of course
@@penkatadrums oh that makes way more sense than what i said! Thanks :)
Excellent Review!
I have last years i7 Slim and I feel like it's a perfect balance of power and heat, since it has the 13th gen i9 and the same GPU.
Loving my Legion 7 (10750h/2070Super) and especially my Slim 7 Gen8 (7840HS/4060)
I managed to get a good deal on a 12th gen i7 - 4070 Asus TUF for less than $1k US. I don't think ill need an upgrade for years to come. After months of use, I wish the VRAM buffer was larger than 8GB's. Great video
When it is available for purchase, will you test the notebooks with Snapdragon x?
Love the detailed review!
Can you review the Acer Nitro V16? I got my eyes on it but there's no dedicated review of it so far
Knew something big was coming. Great vid
I plan to grab this one, but only the Glacial White model is available at the place i plan to buy it. Do you think its easy to get dirty? Or would it be fine? Thank you.
Definitely very interested to see how this stacks up against the G16!
So do these LPE cores do anything for battery life as advertised when 14th gen was announced?
This doesn't have LPE cores, those are found in Meteor Lake processors. In general Meteor Lake seems a bit better in battery life though
@@JarrodsTech Thanks a lot, I got so confused with the whole LPE core thing.
Personally, I prefer performance and features over it being thin and sleek. I don’t mind it being thicker or a little bit loud to get the extra performance and features that I really want. I wish Lenovo would’ve made a line specifically for users like this.
I got the same laptop with a 4060. I-9 14900HX 32GB RAM. Its a legion 5 from costco. $1299
Please compare it with legion pro 5i of 2024
I'm looking for my first gaming laptop/pc. Would this be enough to handle FPS games like overwatch2? or do you think a laptop with more power /performance would make a huge difference? Its a bit overwhelming how many options there are
Hi can you suggest a gaming laptop for 1600 usd. I thought of buying Alienware M16 R2 now and would like to hear other opinions
THANK YOU FOR THE TIP ON FN+U TO TURN OFF THE HDMI LIGHT! I've been annoyed by that for so long.
Not gonna lie, that very impressive cpu temp suring stress test because, this is not super thick or wide laptop like msi titan, no side vents, under 2,4kg weight, fan noise still not stupid loud
Hi, What is the best RTX 4060 and i7 laptop currently? Is it the Legion 5i Pro?
Finally, We got review on legion 7i laptop by Jarrod.😊😊
I used the 7940hs 4070 slim 7 from the previous gen. I was going to replace my non slim legion 7 3070ti . the 4070 slim performed slightly better in fps but kept having micro stuttering. It would say 100 fps but the 90 on my 3070ti felt smoother. I ended up returning the 4070 slim, noticed the same with legion 5 slim 4070 13700
can't imagine how much effort goes into creating these videos. much respect.
Hey jarrod, had question. What are the specific charger and cables capabale of charging this through USB-C?
Been browsing like hell through all reddit and youtube but couldn't find an answer. Please suggest.
Which one to choose between legion 7i and rog zephyrus G16? Both with same rtx 4070 and similar price
which one did you got??
@@nikhilrmahi I got the zephyrus g16
@@terryteh5117 would u recommend it?
Hey Jarrod, after almost only seeing tested laptops with mostly midrange to high end specs I have been wondering if you’re still gonna test some more cheaper 1080p budget laptops because we now got the Acer Nitro V 15, Acer Nitro 14,16&17 and MSI thin 15.
For some reason Acer don't like to send us Nitro, so it is more difficult to get.
@@JarrodsTech Damn, that’s strange.
