One thing to DO if you have anxiety: DRINK WATER! I found out by accident that drinking water when you feel anxious can help lessen that anxiety. Apparently, dehydration can cause anxiety or make symptoms worse.

Maybe it’s because your body was high in sugar (that can trigger anxiety)
So drinking water Dilutes the sugar which then helps lower your Anxiety..

It doesn't seem to work for me, but I drink a lot of water in general anyway. I rarely drink soda, I drink tea and/or coffee about 2-3 times per week. Like maybe every other day or every other other day.
As for alcohol, it is probably less than monthly. I drank in New Year's at a party, but before that, it was one mixed drink in a hot tub, maybe a month prior and half a beer back in July or August.
Anything with carbonation, too much sugar, or alcohol irritates my stomach, and I think water tastes good.

    • @kraziecatclady

Also, different things work for different people. Usually, some type of sensory related distraction of some sort works for most people.
Cold water might work best for you. Some people, it is taste, touching something, smelling something strong, or looking at stuff. Rubbing or tapping near my temples seems to help, but probably looks weird in public and isn't easy to do when driving, but at home, it helps. So does crochet for me, but once again, easier to do at home.

I'd add do not drink high caffeine beverages (like coffee or diet coke), that's like throwing gasoline on a fire. Green tea is much better, lower caffeine and has a calming effect. Also, mindfulness meditation in the book 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels was a big help for me.

This! I was suffering form a lot of anxiety and mind you I barely drink any coffee at all, I have little tolerance to it. What it was doing was increasing my anxiety so much more. Now I only have match with a very small portion of caffeine and I feel 💯 better, better focus, energy and I don’t feel jittery. I don’t even take pre workout before the gym.

not leaving is so important. it’s like exposure therapy, in a way. a few months ago i went through a car wash by myself for the first time and was freaking out the entire time and cried after, but because i now have the experience, it is something that will get easier every time i do it. little steps.

    • @kraziecatclady

Yep. Sometimes, for some weird reason, I have anxiety attacks in Wal-Mart. It doesn't always happen. It is less likely if I bring another person and don't stay in there super long, but when it does happen, I just try looking around, reminding myself that there is no real hazard, that it is just my body overreacting to a perceived threat that doesn't exist, and will likely subside once I make it back into my car to sit in there and calm back down. But I don't stop shopping or leave because if I do, the next time I go in there, it is more likely to occur and probably even sooner than the last time.
For the most part, it is only Wal-Mart, but once or twice, it has occurred in another store. It doesn't seem to matter which Wal-Mart, just as long as I've been in that particular Wal-Mart multiple times in the past.
I'm guessing it is related to some underlying childhood trauma associated with my mom and her boyfriend stealing from Wal-Mart all the time so they could return stuff they stole for money. On more than one occasion, they also got chased by security and the police. I hated watching them do it, but I was also a child.
They stole from other stores too, but that one was one of their more common places. They also did it at Lowes, but that place doesn't seem to have the same effect.

    • @Ann-dh2cx
      @Ann-dh2cx 7 місяців тому

Yup. That’s what I told myself when I got stuck in an elevator. I’m claustrophobic and have C-PTSD from a house fire. What did building maintenance do? They set off the fire alarm in the hopes that the elevator would reset and go down to the basement level. So of course I thought there was a building fire and that I’d die of asphyxiation in an elevator! And the little telephone in the elevator you can cry into when you get stuck? It was manned by someone who couldn’t speak English…. So yeah, exposure to your fears is gonna make everything all right…NOT!

    • @harvestarr4420
      @harvestarr4420 7 місяців тому

@@Ann-dh2cx i think that’s an experience where your reaction wasn’t irrational, though. if i had been stuck in an elevator and the fire alarm went off and had no way of knowing it wasn’t just a drill. i would have also freaked out and assumed i would die from the fire. my comment was in relation to more controlled environments. so for example, if you had claustrophobia and went onto an elevator with a lot of people and then safely got off, that’s good exposure therapy. if you are aware you get anxious in enclosed spaces and instead choose to completely remove the possibility of you ever being in situations where you will be “trapped”, your anxiety may get worse. for me, i have arachnophobia and grew up in an old house where spiders frequently found their way in (we probably also had a small infestation in the ceiling or something). i was able to get over the worst of my fears for a period of time because i confronted a type of spider i am very scared of and successfully killed it (not at a point where i can comfortably coexist with them so killing them with minimal fear is a big step for me.) when my family moved out and i left for university, i found that my arachnophobia got even worse because i wasn’t constantly confronted with spiders due to newer living areas and living above ground level. where i currently live, it is again an old house and spiders frequently find their way in especially in warmer weather, so i am having to deal with my arachnophobia head on again and it’s not as bad as it was when i first moved in. your scenario is very different from that. you freaked out not just because of ptsd, but because you were literally in a scenario that seemed to be very unsafe, so your reaction was justified. also i think some anxieties such as house fires are not things you should get exposure therapy for lol, those are things where it is completely reasonable to freak out. that is a life or death situation generally. just being in a random elevator, or just being by a common house spider, are generally not life or death situations, and those are the scenarios i was referring to where exposure therapy would be beneficial. hope that makes sense. also sorry you had to go through that, it must have been very hard and scary to experience.

Systematic desensitization/exposure is much better than flooding, which can actually deepen the fear. If its just too much to handle, get out of there! Just be sure and come up with a game plan of slower exposure methods that you will follow through on.👍

Key note: if you have sensory and information processing issues due to autism or ADHD, not leaving the situation can lead to pain, burnout, meltdown or shutdown. If the anxiety is caused by a fear of social situations for example, then leaving the situation will do more harm than good because you won't be facing your fear to overcome it.
So it highly depends on the source of anxiety and the situation at hand that will determine whether you should leave or not. Knowledge is power 🙏🏻💕

@@heidijobrownarimes1397 I hate that saying. It would be better if it said, SOMETIMES,of SOME things don't kill SOME people it makes them stronger.
I thought I could take anything, so I braved certain situations and eventually they broke me.
I was fine before-- stronge, brave, energetic, able, willing and eager for all kinds of adventures.
I believed all the challenges I accepted would make me stronger, Instead, they temporarily broke me, and although I overcame them enough to survive and continue to find a measure of contentment in my situations (sometimes), and to see the beauty of the world (sometimes), I am a fractions of the person I was before.
What didn't kill me (because I was strong enough to keep going through it all-- a strength I had all along) made me weaker...as well as more fearful, less able to navigae in the world (literally--I get lost all the ime, and am afraid to go places), less outgoing, less happy, negative where before I was positive (it takes a huge part of my daily energy just to fend off/dispute the negativity), less energetic...less of most of the good/useful/helpful/constructive things about myself and a host of new, , obstacle-creating, draining, negative things.
And this is still the case after years of working to improve/recover/rise above.

If I decide to leave a transport or a shop or smthg, suddenly everything becomes overwhelming, it's like I let the anxiety take over and I start panicking and I don't know where to go, what to do. Instead, trying to calm down and breathing as possible, staying where I am works usually best.

I’m so sorry to hear about your intense struggles! I can’t begin to understand what you’re going through. But I thought I’d help out a bit and give you some knowledge about brain damage. When you get a blow to the head, your brain cells begin to rapidly age. It’s a great idea to spam your body with as many good quality antioxidants every day as possible to counteract the aging process. Next, you may want to think about cutting out sugars as they cause inflammation and are linked to deteriorating of the brain. Even gluten can cause brain harm. If you don’t already take omega 3s, it might be time to start, along with taking a good multivitamin. There’s so much out there for brain health-Different nootropics and peptides. Best of luck!

I disagree with the "do not leave" comment. If you are neurodivergent and have sensory issues, the grocery store is an absolute nightmare. His advice can make it worse and cause trauma. The nervous system is overwhelmed. You have to regroup and sometimes it is impossible to do it in the grocery store and you have to leave. You have to find tips to help you cope with the sensory overload at the grocery store.

Psilocybin: whem used safely and responsibly it can actually be oftrn helpful. People can face their traumas amd start processing them. Obviously integration is vital as the experience itself is not enough.
But yeah. When someone os not emotionally mature, or can't handle big emotions I would stear clear and seek professional help (therapy).
And lastly: I don't think psylocybin can control you. You cannot get addicted to it. Obviously you build tolerance to it if you use it often. But overall, especially in therapeutic settings with the right protocol people can often go very deep within themselves and tackle underlying issues. Again, it's not for everyone and please don't mess around with it as it's a very powerful substance.

Pretty awful advice. Instead do this:
    1. Go to the bathroom and let cold water flow over your wrists, which will calm you by activating the parasympathetic system
    2. On the way there and while cooling your wrists: exhale as strongly as you can, which also activate the parasympathetic system
    3. Don't consume coffeine at any time of the day (especially not in the morning when not having eaten yet) because that indirectly raises your noradrenaline levels, which is partly responsible for anxiety
    4. If you regularly vape nicotine or smoke cigarettes, then do that after leaving the bathroom, which will quickly increase your serotonin levels, which are partly responsible for anxiety if too low
    5. Eat something / anything, which will lower noradrenaline and increase serotonin
    6. If possible, go for a run as soon as possible (after having partly digested the food), which lowers noradrenaline and increases serotonin
    7. If you regularly consume cannabis and that increases your anxiety, then find a different strain (from a legal source where you can actually know the strain) and / or consume CBD and / or nicotine beforehand.
    8. Get moclobemide (a RIMA) prescribed against anxiety. If not possible, then a SSRI, but NEVER benzodiazepines. You can also research supplements against anxiety if you don't want to take medication (anymore). But act quickly. You can drink low amounts of alcohol in the meantime, but don't become an alcoholic (anxiety is the most common cause of alcoholism).
In general about anxiety: there is nothing worse than not having control over anxiety. So do leave if that makes you more comfortable and reduces anxiety. You can re-enter the store afterwards when feeling better in order to prevent developing anxiety of public places or social settings due to negative associations. Anxiety is just a chemical imbalance (i.e. too much noradrenaline in combination with too little serotonin and GABA) that can be caused by many things (e.g. real threats, negative experiences, malnutrition, other chemical imbalances, psychoactive substances, genetics).
