Cable barriers: safe for cars and trucks. Not so much for Super Heavy tractor trailers or motorcyclist

I’d love to see statistics of saved head-ons vs ruined cars & injuries due to the barriers.
I was driving slowly (30-35mph was the flow of traffic) thru a snowstorm in southern IL on I-70. conditions were horrible, and at one point I slid off into the median. I was able to drive back on the highway by not braking but lightly keeping the accelerator pressed and continue on my way safely. Had there been a barrier, I would have crashed and been stuck out there freezing waiting for someone to find me in whiteout conditions, pre cell phone days in the middle of nowhere. They don’t place them down the middle, they place them so close to one lane there is no room for error. A friend’s teenage son was driving down I-35 and as kids will do, became distracted and dropped a wheel off the edge which pulled him immediately into the barrier, totaling his car. The median there is hundreds of feet wide and had there been no barrier or had they placed it closer to the center of the median, he could have driven back onto the road and made it home safely. Also as a mc rider, NOT a fan of barriers! 😡 they can turn a simple maintenance delay into a deadly crash!
