  • Today the driver of this moving truck tried to beat the light at the 11foot8 bridge and smashed his truck right into the canopener. Two passengers were injured and had to be taken to the hospital. One of the passengers hit the windshield with his head and cracked the windshield. This was crash #125 since April 2008.

DargoDog. Good point. Also parking garages at convention centers when you're moving stuff to/from them. Sometimes they have headroom for a trailer, sometimes not enough. Once saw a rental box truck stuck under a cement covered beam in a convention hall's parking garage. Driver didn't pay attention to the warning height bar dangling from the cables in front of the entrance that clearly hit the truck's top. Drove into the first level and wedged himself under the roof of the 2nd floor. He wasn't hurt (except for his pride) and everyone had a good laugh as they drove around him.

Antenna smacks a big duct or pipe or something, ringing it like a huge drum.

In the West it's very rare to find the low clearance like that. I worked as a mover for 16 years. Paying attention to this is part of the job as a driver. This guy was probably driving home after the job. Box was empty. I can speak from experience movers on local jobs drive home fast. He obviously was not paying attention.

@@danielj5650 Buuut look at all the signage. They've done literally everything they could do make this thing idiot proof and yet people hit it anyway. Honestly I think this bridge is a good example of a field test. Like seriously how do you get a license to drive a truck if you never look at any signs.
Plus, raising the bridge would be difficult because of the railway that runs across it. And they can't lower it because of sewage lines running underneath the road.
They actually did raise it in 2019 by about 8 inches- people stiiiiillll hit it though. Because people are stupid.

What I find remarkable about these wrecks, other than the obvious inability to be aware of the height of your vehicle and all the warning signs, is how few of these trucks are hauling any gear. Almost all of them appear to be empty. Can you imagine if this truck was fully loaded when it hit that hard and fast blowing the sides out like that?

  • @BlazeMakesGames

I was so relieved that it appeared to be empty when he pulled away. I can only imagine how devastating it would have been to be someone who packed their entire life into a truck, only to wreck it so hard. Plus it would have been at least a little forgivable since random people are obviously way less experienced in driving trucks like that. I know I was when I last did it and ended up having to get a way bigger truck than we needed cause they were out of the smaller ones, and I was clutching the wheel like a paranoid maniac for the hour I drove it.
