I usually only comment once, but after watching and understanding the reasoning behind putting it back to stock, I have to say get your wife involved as much as possible,if she enjoys scouring swap meets…. Go to a ton, search for those hard to find parts together
Have her decide on , not just the tins colors, but mirrors, bars, seat…etc…etc…it will truly be “her” scoot and you will both be blessed

Your Mrs. is a sweetheart and deserves any type of bike she wants. I was fortunate enough to meet her at the last weirdo camp-out, the day before the wedding. She gave me one of your stickers and we chatted very nicely for a little while.
I'm happy that you are redeeming yourself after chopping that bike she asked you not to.
Make it real nice for her Corey. She deserves it.

    Call her Resurrection Mary.
I've been wrenching on, building, and riding for 51yrs this year, and I enjoy your videos because you remind me of the men I called my brothers back in the late 70s and throughout the 80s, most of whom are no longer with us.
I like and respect the fact that you appreciate old iron and are keeping it on the road.
In my book, these new "PlastiGlides" have killed the original essence and spirit of what motorcycling once was, and the younger generations of riders are being screwed out of the otiginal experience.
I've finally started a well deserved about a million mile restoration of my box stock 72 Electraglide I've had since 1980, and currently also have a 97 WideGlide to keep me in the wind while I'm doing it.
Again, thanks for the videos, and may The Creator of All things Bless and Keep you and yours in the New Year.

I enjoyed the backstory, Tramp. This type content is rare on the interwebs... Honesty. I also think it's cool to see somebody on a video digging through the same box of bolts that I have dug through a few times before myself. Hellfighters is a cool place.... I felt that little "tail-wag" that the Tramp gave you to liven up your day! That will sure get your attention!! One last thing... you missed a good chance to do a good Tommy Chong impression at the start of the video!! "I'm in my van, man... and I gotta go to the can, man!" Keep 'em comin', Corey!

I'm really glad I found this video. As of two years ago I'm riding a 1992 Sportster 883 5 speed. The title SAID 14,800+ 'original miles' & I tend to believe it because it runs so good & straight down the road but it had been left outside under a tarp for years so there's a LOT of aluminum oxidation (& oil leaks) going on that I still have to deal with. But Right before I stored it this year I noticed a noise in it when I ran it up in rpms (mildly) in like 2nd or 3rd gear that sounded like the bottom end was coming undone! But NOT a peep in neutral or when the clutch was pulled & I brought the rpms up around 2500-3000. I've been told I have shifter pawl or a shifter pawl bushing problem. It's cold here in Mi. so I will be tackling that end of it asap when spring hits. I might have questions about this later on as this is my first Harley... Take Care.

The Tramp was a good looking mobile before you chopped it, loved the look. I have brand new OEM Harley Sportster adjustable rear shocks that I saved when I replaced them with Dyna Burly Slammers when I purchased my 2015 Sporty 72' 1200. I would imagine they would fit without fuss since not much was changed in 30 years. If you need a set for it I'd be happy to send them out to you if it's what you're looking for, they maybe have 500 miles on them and the chrome looks brand new still in the box. If not, no worries, I'll continue to hold on to them. Happy New Year Corey to you and the Missus.

Great idea... I bought a 1995 883 from a guy who put drag pipes on it. They really sucked and the motor didn't run toogood. Found a set of mufflers and head pipes.mufflers came from a softail. Then went 8nto the carb. It was way too rich, even for the drag pipes. Ithink it still needs a leaner slowjet but itis runningbetter and better. The lighting was all subdued, so changing all that. Basically it is becoming an all stock bike which is more comfortable, quieter, andsafer to ride. Similar to what you are doing. I wish there was a place like Hellfighters near me. They would get a lot of my wages.

Now that you have it going on, how does she like it? The story about the "why" of it is cool. It is strange the things wives get attached to. I love guns and motorcycles. I picked up an old beat up revolver that looked like hammered dog doo, cleaned it up a little and traded it to a friend, after I traded it, my wife told me, "that was the only pistol you ever had that I really liked", it took a few years but eventually I got it back and now she has it again. I completely understand your thoughts on this bike. Great video. I only wish she would get an idea about a motorcycle like that. I guess I need to count the blessings I have.

i miss you two. ive been on the bottom of since fla camp out. i too have a " redemption" bike. my old Marauder. kinda like a Japanese sportster. i have more issues than the bike but it's I that the bike is redeeming me . it has been parked for 5 years now as i have struggled with physical injuries . im riding now and then on my black vulcan that Diesel affectionately calls " grille paint". i painted it with bbq grille paint . i got it for a song and it needed some tlc but i was able to make it roll reliably. vulcan is a good bike but that Suzuki.... i miss that Marauder. i bought it new in 1997. i think you saw it in one of my vids . the custom belt drive i made for it. we have 60k +miles together .still runs like new. just rubber and a fuel tank leak is holdin me up. fork seals and tires. and and to just keep it runnin , i put a spare plastic tank on side so i can start it every week. when money and body allow , i will get her done and ride out to see you guys! your sportster is coming along very nicely. stock is just fine.hope to see your girl on that. keep tha shiny side up!

I'm "building" a stock 883 Sportster for my wife right now too. I just finished resurrecting an old Electraglide Standard that turned out to be a little big for my wife. I wanted another project and found a nice Sportster in good shape for the right price. My wife has claimed the Sportster, so it's not going to be the project I intend. I'm just going to put better lights on it, new tires, different risers so she can reach the bars better, and get it to run like it should. I'm trying to have her involved, but she works a lot more hours than I do, so she probably won't have much of a hand in it.

My 99 Softail Custom is completely stock accept for the drag pipes, the K&N air box, and a lot of chrome from Harley. A 60 spoke from wheel, a slotted rear wheel, Chrome fork sliders, wheel cylinders, swing arm, custom Harley chrome mirrors, and a few other things I have probably forgotten. That was all done by the first owner who only put 4,000 miles on it. Stock Harleys are rare as hens teeth.
When I sold my 84 Sportster XLCH it was mostly stock. The only comment I get is, wow, an unmolested Softail. I think about changing this or that sometimes, but like it just the way it is. Not that I do not like customized bikes, but why would you touch up the Mona Lisa.
Oh, by the way, how do you like the buckhorn bars. I had them on my Sportster and on my Softie also. I have found them to be very comfortable. They fit me perfectly.

Makes plenty of sense to put it back together stock. Especially since Harley has moved on to the modern sportster now.

Look at you. And I’m here in NJ trying to get a machine shop to hone my shovel cylinders so I can rebuild the top-end of my 1970 Electra Glide. So far 3 months and nadda. You know of a good machine shop in TX? The Ole Skool mechanics are dying faster than any youngsters can get up to speed. Thanks for posting and Happy New Year.

Not off hand. But checkout bmikarts.com. They have a bunch of NOS harley parts for good prices. I even saw a pair of shovel cylinders on there. For 100 bucks. www.bmikarts.com/Front-Rear-Cylinder-Set-For-Harley-Davidson-1200cc-Shovelhead-1966-79_p_7177.html

My first motorcycle was a 89 883 Hugger! Lol…I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Until I really got into riding. Going down the freeway at 75mph that thing shook so much it makes your shake! In other words I couldn’t see that great. Besides that in any kind of strong wind man that thing just sucked. I think they’d be great around town bikes, but definitely not on freeway or any kind of long distance. I’ve went through many different bikes and brands. I’m now riding a Gold Wing 1800cc Six Cylinder. That allows me to do the kind of super long distance riding I enjoy. I’ve done it on lesser bike but at detriment to my back/body!!

Yeah those things are a product of an era. They were designed to cruise at 55 to 60. At 70 they would scream at 4000 rpm with the stock gearing.

Not trying to be a beggar, I love your tenacity man, I do well with compliments either, but you are a rock star. I'd love to meet you sometime. I'm coming through Iowa and Illinois this spring on the Sporty, trying to plan my very first trip on my sporty, need a bigger tank, a sissy bar and I'd love to simply switch headlights from the handlebars to the forks. 3 months left lol. I can't wait to see how this bike turns out for you, I love SPORTYS, I see them all the time around here $2-3k low miles, lots of potential, but I'm a part time pastor and I gotta focus on that, but I would love to get one and just start wrenching IMMEDIATELY, love u Cory (Corey?) Brother!

I understand , a bike is to be ridden . cool looking bikes sometimes lose there rideablity . Seats are a big thing for me , also shocks . I did put shocks on my 81 FXE that at 90 miles my back killed me . ( not on for long I may add )
