What a fun build and looks cool too! Shows how you don't need $10,000 in custom tools, equipment nor accessories to make a bike your own. I think sportsters, especially the 883 get too much hate for being just what they are; One of the worlds longest continually produced motorcycles from the '50's. I'll have to check out your other videos now! Great job again!
Nice simple build. I am getting into building bikes more and more all the time. I do see a market for this skill. I appreciate everything you have shared here. Thank you!
I inherited an ‘87 sporty from my aunt, and this is pretty much exactly what I wanna do to it! It’s in pretty rough shape as it’s been sitting in a shed for a few years. I also find myself wearing my checkered vans all the time lol
WD-40 for the grips work great. I’ve probably done dozens and dozens of grips with WD-40. No issues ever in any way….if it works it ain’t stupid. The WD takes a couple minutes and it dries out internally and the grips hold. I actually just did this to some new bars just yesterday. Rode the bike to and from work…no problems at all.
Awesome vid with great commentary and videography/ editing , nice looking bike when finished, always a fan of sissy bars too,Best wishes to you, from, Auckland, New Zealand ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍✅❤🙂🙂😉😉😉🍻🍻🍻
Hello. I like a lot your bike and Prism object ! I would buy the king Cobra seat, for my sportster 1998. I would a seat that also can be comfortable for the passenger. I am troubled of the only 3.9" width in the passenger zone. What can you tell me about? Thank you !!
Out of curiosity, I'm not saying you're wrong or right... I don't know enough to say either way but what makes this a part swap vs a build? Where do you draw the line between the two?

Lucas oil 20x50 mineral oil, quiets the bike and valve train and cleans the internals and keeps it cooler by 10-30 degrees, try different oils amd see but from my experience valvoline is shit and doesn't help the bike and seems to have a alot thinner viscosity than Lucas when warm

Hi, thank you and best of luck on your build. I picked up the 883 for $1,500. which is a pretty great price these days. If you can hold out for a 1200cc I highly recommend it!
Thanks for the well presented , well shot and interesting video. It was enjoyable and great to see an every-man type of build up. Not the mig welding, plasma cutter, angle grinder, "build not buy" type but the sort that could be done on a spare long weekend. Also can you tell me how you got permission to spray paint stripper in the garden? when I do that I tend to lose a part of my anatomy.
Awesome content bro. You sold me on getting those Prism T Handle Bars for my sporty. Did you have any problems reinstalling the stock controls? I saw some other ones with dimples, but I'm really digging the Prism ones lol
I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but these are my thoughts. 1) I have always liked the Harley factory esthetic. I like the original handlebars better then those T bars. I am pretty sure the grips it came with were not original, but I liked them better then the replacements. 2) I noticed that there was a lot of oxidation on the chrome. I would have attempted to deal with that. 3) The seat has the pretense of having space for a passenger. Have some poor girl ride on the back for 15 minutes and ask how she feels about the seat. The old passenger backrest looked more passenger friendly as well. 4) I like the look of fenders. I realize that shortening or removing them has a more bobber look, but I am not a bobber kind of guy. Besides, when you hit a mudpuddle or two, you might realize why they are there. 5) Replacing the exhaust pipes with straight pipes certainly makes it LOUDER. And slower. The illusion of power is not power. Ask what your neighbors feel about straight pipes. It also means that if you want to keep your hearing, you will need earplugs. 6) Does the amber headlight make as much light as the original? Do the new turn signals? 7) I am tired of everything that has a skull on it. My last point is that everything on a bike has a function. Replacing anything with with something else that looks good in your opinion but doesn't function as well is counterproductive. Of course, these are only my opinions. I have a 1200 Sportster which is box stock. I plan to keep it that way.
So boys and girls, you can spend $1000 to bolt on a bunch of pretties onto an 883 and at the end of the day you are still riding an 883 while $1000 lighter in the pocket. Build, don't buy.
That’s a valid point. The point here was more to show what you can do to a bike that’s often been labeled as a “girls bike” and written off as too slow (which it sort of is). If you can get a good price on a 1200 sporty that’s for sure the way to go. BUT, an 883 isn’t the worst thing ever & I’m having a lot of fun with it.
@@twopencemoto4759 I get it man, everyone starts somewhere, with that said, 883 to 1200 conversion is not as intimidating as it may seem, food for thought.
And let me add that somewhere along the line, Sportsters in general have become defined as "chic bikes" and I could not disagree more. I own several, all HD including an '04 Electra Glide, '88 Superglide and custom built chopper but nothing beats jumping on the Sporty and bangin' around.
I think one of the follow on comments nailed my thoughts, sportsters are certainly a very versatile bike. They are affordable so there is a stigma of it being great “first bike”, but I think it’s a fun little bike regardless, I have a 1200 sporty and sure it’s not my twin cam softail in regards to power, but it’s not meant to be. It’s a fun bar hopper and bobber, and as probably the most customizable Harley in regards to aftermarket parts. If you can afford multiple bikes, why not? I’m about to drop a whole lot more than $1k into my sporty and I’m pumped about it!
@@jeskohelms304 , for sure. Back in the day alot of guys even myself rode them. It was just a good ripper. I rode mine several times for 900 miles one way trip to and from Kansas Army base to Kentucky. They are fun for sure. It's the adventure that counts for me.
A true build is when you start with basically nothing. You design the frame, the motor and all components. Allot of guys will buy a used bike and add parts to make what they like. Nothing fabricated and built by hand. Take Jesse James for instance, he does a true build. Now you can “build a bike using pre faves parts and it will be unique and different but a true build is from zero.

I've found hairspray ideal for grips. Spray heavily inside the grip, jam them on and once the spray dries, it'll help jeep the grips in place.

Little tip when using aircraft remover after you spray it warp the entire tank in plastic wrap and it helps speed up the process

IDK about the WD40 on grips, sounds like an accident waiting to happen. I would recommend using hairspray or an air compressor.
