  • This is my response to ZackFirstPerson; his challenge/nomination for my choice of motorcycle and for 3 reasons why I choose what to ride. These 3 explantions are in by no means exhaustive, but just enough to hit the high points of why I ride what I ride. I thank you, ZackFirstPerson for the opportunity to participate in this. I hope you find what I have to say informative, bro. Enjoy the video.

I have to agree with you about the Evo engine, especially on the sportster. Very reliable and all it’s power is useable. And friends have all told me that the newer big twins all have various problems, 1 got rid of his 2017 For a nice 1998 soft tail and is happy with it . Guessing that that is the reason HD doesn’t change the sporty and offers the street 500 & 750 alongside the sportster Instead of changing the engine. That said I don’t know why they got rid of the VRod as the 500 & 750 are based on it but smaller. Thank you for another great video , I wish you , your family and all your viewers good health at this time as well as many years of safe and fun riding

A stock Nightster 1200cc is my bike of choice. It’s a study in simplicity. It’s agile, reliable, easy to work on, looks cool, comfortable enough, parts are readily available, and it’s fast enough for long or short trips. They were discontinued by Harley so their value has held up. You just can’t go wrong with a Sporty.

I ride a trike glide and my husband rides a heritage softail. My Husband tells his bike goodnight before going to bed. He asks the Lord to bless his bike. His bike is named after his first horse from his boyhood. He is part Native American and he usually speaks the Lakota language when talking to his bike.

Love the Sportster, before and during Evo engines. I'm not a chopper kinda guy as far as riding one but I am when it comes to admiring them. My bad back forces me to ride my standard Sporty with mid-controls. I love your bike, my bike and all bikes that serve the purpose of getting us from point A to point B whether it's a day trip or endless trip. I'm not into bling and I would much rather see a well-worn bike with natural patina and a well-worn saddle. My personal favorite bikes are Evo's in Sporties and the Evo 80 Big Twins. My 883 is perfect for my needs and I have been fortunate enough this Christmas season to get a lot of miles on it instead of driving my 4WD through the snow. Keep up the great work! Nothing sounds like a Sporty!!!

Of my preferences interestingly I’m the odd man out. A late 70s early 80s shovelhead with an electric ignition system. One because I like to work on stuff, two because I can comfortably take it on long trips, and 3 because I have enough spare parts on hand since I was about 10 years old to build one if I had a frame and engine. I’ve literally got everything else

Simplicity is wonderful. Yesterday, I was parked at a beautiful mountain overlook, viewing the autumn leaves and I could hear a very quiet and smooth touring bike park behind me. It was a big red "adventure touring" bike clad in plastic with giant hard cases everywhere and it was beautiful with apparently very many miles on it according to the little chunks and dings in the windshield. It was wonderful going across the country. However, it looked like something that had to be taken to a specialist to do any kind of maintenance or service. For me, it would be something to rent and not buy. I love tinkering with, and modifying my old XL883 which is one of the best things about my bike. The other is the primal simplicity, the "Fred Flintstone" technology, the feel and the sound of riding at less than 60 mph on my mountain twisties that I am blessed to have surround me. I can go in any direction for hundreds of combinations of two-hour tours. I almost always meet another rider who is doing the same thing while stopping for a coffee break at some little "quick-stop".
Yeah, big touring bikes are nice for a quick fling. A Sportster is for a daily reality check to thank our creator for his wonderful gifts. Thank you, Jesus, for allowing me to appreciate the little things.
I notice that I keep watching re-runs of your videos. Must be for a reason, huh? Keep up the great work?

Man, what kind of front end would I need for a 91 sporty XLH Deluxe to chop it out a little, like yours? That is perfect. What front end would fit on an 883? Scott is a good dude, the only guy who lives on a bike I know and lives good. He doesn't have that burden of paying bills to maintain his home etc. I almost did the same thing, but chickened out, not rich and don't wanna worry about how I would eat this day or that day. Scott has skills and can fix any bike broken down so that gives him a big advantage over a lot of people drifting he can always make money cause he has mechanical skills. I worked really hard to get what I have, I don't know if I could sell it off and be happy tbh. Plus I own 2 bikes and know I couldn't ride em both at the same time, no way I am selling either one. I have nowhere to even park it if I were to leave. I don't trust anyone to leave it at anyone's house.

  • @boomerguy9935

I have another comment on the Evo 883 engine. Because I had to have a serious problem fixed on my 2005 XL883 Standard that was above my limitations, I left it with the dealership (excellent service, believe it or not) and was given a 2020 loaner demo Iron 1200 which was low to the ground and very slick looking. After a few hundred miles on it, I couldn't wait to get my 883 back. Nothing against the bike or the engine or the handling. The problem was with me. I happen to love my old carb'd 883 engine and lower gear ratios. My main rides are mountain twisties and the lower gears allow me to really wind the bike out and the smoother smaller engine was less "thumpy". It still had the Harley single pin vibrations but not the extreme "jackhammer" pounding of the 1200. I was stuck with the 1200 for 10 days and I was having serious withdrawal symptoms. The more I rode it, the less I liked it. It ran flawlessly and it was perfect for somebody else....but not for me.
When I got my baby back from the dealership, they were surprised when I told them not to try to get it spotless like they do for everybody else. I told them to just get the grease and fingerprints off and let me have it. I like patina. It's like the wrinkles in my favorite old leather boots or shoes. They were earned. I'm OCD about maintenance, clean fluids, fine-tuning the adjustments and using a torque wrench. But the cosmetic stuff is just not me. Function over fashion. Bigger is not always better. Long live the Evo 883!

Nice bike. I have an 1100 Yamaha Virago and an 800 Suzuki Intruder. The 800 is a lot more confortable to ride, better handling etc. than the 1100. I use the 1100 mainly to carry passengers or for a long haul trip on the Interstate as it is more stable. I always liked those Sportster 883's. Not a big fan of chain drives however.

You nailed it. I'm a Sportster fan myself as well as the Shovel and its various configurations in frame styles. Actually, I love all bikes.
I'm all about reliability, durability, saving on gas. You won't ever hear me knocking a Sporty.
I'm wondering more about the mentality of certain bike riders though. Lets say, you got a 1200cc Sporty, some say, its a girls bike. But if you are riding a 1200cc Shovel, you are a real man. What?
Dudes that make negative comments concerning 883cc or 1200cc bikes, I've deduced, aren't comfortable with their own sexuality. And, I am being nice.
I like smaller bikes because they are easier to control and handle. In a pinch, the bigger bikes can't be man-handled out of a bad situation, seen many go down.
The kind of riders that must have their testicles dragging the ground while they are swilling down a brew, hey go for it. I don't need the Neanderthal mentality to enjoy riding what I've built. I like what I like and this old man ain't changing nor making excuses for it. God bless you brother.

My bike is underpowered which is good because the brakes suck. It's hard as crap to work on which is good because I have to take it to the mechanic and I don't have to do anything but pay up. Lastly the think I like the most about my Vulcan (fake softail) Classic is that it's paid for and all I have to do is change the oil and put gas in it.....well unless it breaks.

@@TonysGarage A lot of one-handed riding. Handlebar in one hand and gopro on a stick in the other. I thought about getting my wife and a friend of mine's wife to add some vocals to the music. "TRAMP... he's a bad mutha 'shut yo mouth'". Lol. But I figured that would be a bit overboard.

SaddleTramp well done, I tried the suction cup mount for the GoPro once. Needless to say I had go to buy another GoPro after that. It cartwheeled down the road a few times.

L ride a 2014 Voodoo Purple 883 and I love the bike, I'm not very tall and it's enough bike for me. I know a lot of people that ride the Glides. Not my cup of tea. Sportster for life
