I wouldn't want to ride with a group that rides too fast for an 883 to keep up with personally. Having a bit of fun here and there is one thing, but just going 110mph everywhere for the sake of it is just unnecessary no matter what they're riding imo. This is coming from a guy with a bike that can do 150 all day lol. I'm gonna be making me an 883 chopper here soon though, it'll be pretty awesome. No reason for a bigger motor in it ;)
It was not my favorite group ride for sure. A couple of them just wanted to go fast. Kinda inconsiderate, not just for myself, but there was a guy there who had a brand new 131 in his bike, and really shouldnt have been riding it that hard.

Riding 110 isn't for everyone that's for sure where I'm at all kind of straight roads that go on forever my buddy has a Kawasaki that's goes a million miles an hour but you really don't do it all the time, there made to go that fast for a reason if you grew up in the 60s-70s riding motorcycles you would know that, be safe I just like to win drag races that's all☮️⛓️

Sorry Art but you are wrong there, the first 883cc Sportster the original Ironhead model in 1957, the capacity was increased to 1000cc in 1972. The Sportster lasted in 1000cc form until 1985, in 1986 the Evolution Sportster motor was released in again in 883cc and an 1100cc was added, the 1100 motor was replaced in 1988 by one of 1200cc.

Personally i wouldn't have ridden with guys who are so inconsiderate, just cut off and ride on my own, done it for years now, ride how you want where you want to go, i see far too many guys taking risks just trying to keep up with the group, it's just not worth it.
I owned a 96 883 and put a Screaming Eagls 1200 kit on it and man that joker would fly. Plus my insurance stayed the same, because it still listed as a 883. My top end when it was stock was 90mph with me by myself. With thb SE 1200 my top end was.... well I don't know, because when I hit 115 mph my wife slapped my helmet and said slow it down. It was an upgrande I did not regret.
My 883 has a1200 kit, I can keep up with any big twin it's fast as helI, man I love it, 110 mph, all day long,burn outs and wheelies all day, i ride hard to, for over 50 yrs keep on riding ☮️⛓️

A 1200 definitely could, and so could this bike if I changed out the gearing. But sometimes it's fun being the little bike in the group, comparing strengths and weaknesses. As for baggers splitting, keep an eye out for an upcoming video. Our ride landed us in LA rush hour.

The 883 will out run those big bikes. Change sprockets get yourself better top end then you'll roll to 135 mph. Also get a 1275 kit and replace clutch to handle the torque and you'll wear out any of those big twins. Sportsters are bad to the bone to build. Those other bike's won't be able to match it. And when it breaks down you'll be glad to push the sportster vs those other bike's. And they all will break down eventually.
Seems like a inconsiderate group of riders. Just bought my wife a 883 super low. In the shop now putting new tires on it and forward controls. It’s a fun bike! Sounds incredible too. Think it sounds louder than my RK!
Yep, when I took the baffles out on mine it was so loud it would always make people turn and look when I started it up. Probably surprised to see a sporty haha.
On that road up there's really no turning around. We usually have the lead wait at the next road/turn for everyone so we can all take the road at our own pace.
I have a 883 and some of my rider friends are sport bikers i dont even try to ride with them and the ones that have road kings and glides they slow down for me
@@ohherewegoagain it is heavier for sure. The only one I've tried was a 2013 with I believe a 103. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the handling, and that was only about 4 months into riding. As long as you respect the power of the bike, take it easy on the throttle at first, and get well aquatinted with the friction zone I don't see why it wouldn't be a good bike. Just be prepared to drop it at a stop/low speed manuvers as most new riders and people in general drop their bikes. I've dropped mine twice for my own stupidity and once due to gravel+wind.
Unfortunately the 883s power is in the high rpms 5th gear under 70 has little to no torque. It's quickest squeezing out the highest rpm each gear has to offer.
@@ZozzerRidez well, that’s what I meant. He couldn’t keep up on the top end because he was winding out the gears from the start. If you were to short shift your way to the top gear, you’d have more rpm’s left the stretch out that last gear and get a higher top speed to keep up with those big bikes. I dunno, was just a theory.
I've actually dramatically reduced the wind buffeting with my fairing. Before I got it it was hard going 85, felt like a sail. Now I'm just limited by the bike itself. The 883 can go 100 as long as it's not uphill, but with a rigid mounted engine the vibrations are crazy at those rpms haha. I do highly recommend the gauntlet fairing at my height (5'10") as the wind is pushed to about neck height, but no loud or painful buffeting on the helmet. Comfortably cruises at 85.
Yes I often say "how come you didn't pull over 10 people, on the side of a gravel covered, snow lined, two lane, mountain road while I swapped batteries?!"
There’s no need to run over 90 mph. 80-90 is a good cruising speed for an 883 and above CC. Now my 883 has been converted and has fueling reaper cams so it’ll keep with anything, but I don’t wind it out much or get over 115 cause the wind is so bad on such a small bike.
Yea the 80+ is really just for passing power, out on the freeways here it's extremely valuable. Sucks being maxed near maxed out at 80 and can't pass in a timely manner.
Depends how you build it, but yes. If you only do cylinders you'll be able to keep up, but still can get left behind by anything north of a stock 103. My 1250 has exhaust and intake only on top of the cylinders and I cruise the fwy at 80-90 with passing power up to 100 or so.
Higher gearing on an 883 with all the mountains around is a big L. Displacement did and does make a big difference. I'm also very glad I don't live where you do, so I can have fun 🤙
I've owned sportsters and big twins and I know very well what BS is slung at Sporty owners by some big twin riders. I'm a Sporty fan, will buy another, and by the way have no interest in riding over 80 mph. Frankly I couldn't be bothered riding with Big Twin owners like them, the speeds were ridiculous, idiotic, cop magnet stupidity. Ride with other dedicated non wannabe Sporty owners would be my advice.
Just happened to be a larger group than normal with people who don't normally show up. My core group is solid but funny enough the mainly sportster group I rode with is even worse.

When 883 first came out I was riding my 83 FXWG ( Still my only motorcycle). They would take me in the Curves. Nothing wrong with Sportsters.
Yup, I love the torque in 3rd or 4th for curves and mine rides real stable now. Took out a street glide and it ruined all these curves haha.

Wrong sportster is full Harley Davidson since day one.
I got a 1991 Sporty with a 1250 kit, dyna 2000 module, arlen ness big sucker, hotter plugs, updated coil, with a lowering kit.
Not a bad idea on the lower, gets real easy to pick up the wheel haha.
My son has a 883 and has no problem keeping up, I kill him 'off the line', but keeping up is not an issue.
Just need pulley swap for better highway cruising.
