Damn, I'm on my fourth and final year of my contract and I've never heard of this IMA program before. I don't think most people know about this program. I'll look into this, thanks.
I will be at 14 good years soon, 6 active, the rest national guard/reserves, currently in the reserves. Was Enlisted, now an Officer. Discovered the IMA program and am looking into this program since I would like to finish my last six years, then submit for retirement. Already working to see how the process is, hopefully by September I am already in the program. I believe, from what I have read, its the better option for my current job. Plus I read that supposedly you can knock out all required days to have a good year in a month.
I can only speak for air force. Air force has a program called palace chase. You get out of active duty a certain amount of time that forgot earlier than you would originally separate the military. But you will owe the reserve or guard 3x the remainder on your active duty contract if I recall correctly. For example, you leave active duty 1 year early, you now owe the reserve or guard 3 years.
I am an Air Force reservist my brother is an army reservist it took us after our first contract to pick up ima orders. Ima also helps out immensely with retirement points if you intend to be in the reserves long term.
@@jasonburds I get confused about that, bc u either get va pay or reserve pay, but u can not double dip Ill have to look more into it It was just a general question Im looking over information since I am about to ETS
As long as your meeting the requirements for satisfactory year (1 weekend/mo, 2 weeks/yr equivalent). It's 100% on you to ensure you're staying up on training and drill days. Very much unlike active duty.
@@salmaanali7239 correct. Also, there are opportunities to go on orders and gain more retirement points for the year. I have over 5000 retirement points. More retirement points equals more money at age 60 at retirement.
Nothing that is non obligatory. The one unique transition I know a little about for active duty to guard is called palace chasing. You can end your active contact early to give extra years in the guard.
Yes you can, but you can't get double paid. This means the VA will send you a debt letter for all the days you did drill/AT and will ultimately reduce your disability checks for the next year. And what's crazy - there are people that have such high ratings they opt to not get paid for drills and instead take double points towards retirement....
It's an IRR contract. So no obligation to drill or participate, but you are in the IRR. That's why it's great to try while already in the IRR after your first contract.
I’m an IMA marine and my unit is currently trying to adsep me and take away all my eligible benefits because I didn’t get vaccinated. According to your video, I should have simply been dropped to IRR rather than adsep’d
@@frontseatbackseat ooh dang. I thought the mandate was dropped? Technically IRR still falls under UCMJ and in theory all IRR fall under the mandate from what I understand. It's just unrealistic to get the IRR vaxed. You probably just have people over you that didn't want to get it and are taking it out on you. You should be able to drop to IRR and leave, but you're kinda just a sitting duck... That's a tough one man. I'm sorry.
I was IMA. I trained with my active duty folks in Okinawa. IMA is typically for Staff NCOs and Officer's. It's the Marine Corps best kept secret 🤫
Dude, the best kept secret. It shouldn't be as secretive as it is though. Did you stay living in Oki, or did you travel back and forth for drills?

It's wild how quiet it is. Not well advertised at all.
Currently IMA. a great program indeed
Nice! Did you stumble on it also?
My S1 told me about it. Keep up the great work

Nice! Good for you. I can confirm - you can knock out all your required days to training in under 2 months. I'm not sure about 1 month though.
IMA is pretty cool but have you heard about LIGMA
😂
So would you have to finish your original active duty contract?
Yes. You can't end your active component early to transfer to the ima.
@@jasonburds ah yes makes sense hahaha thank you

Can you go straight to the IMA as an officer or do you have to serve active duty first?
There's no way to go straight IMA. As an IMA you're part of the IRR and you have to do your time first to make it to the IRR.
if joining the reserves non prior, can you go IMA on your first contract?
Negative. I've never heard of a route for that. Gotta put in the time first.

I have question:
The time you joined IMA does it count in time in service and affect your retirement in the Military?
As long as your meeting the requirements for satisfactory year (1 weekend/mo, 2 weeks/yr equivalent). It's 100% on you to ensure you're staying up on training and drill days. Very much unlike active duty.

Can you still collect VA disability while in this program?

Wait so if you elect to not get paid by the reserves due to for example getting a high payment from disability does that mean you get double points?
@@dennysp144 yep. I met many people that were doing this. Kinda ridiculous, but it is an option.
So your still a soldier? Like shaved beard etc?
Only when drilling. If you're not in uniform, you don't have to maintain the grooming standards. However, you are still under UCMJ.
What’s the background music in the first minute of the video
Subway Dreams by Dan Henig. Found in the UA-cam audio library
Does this program exist in the Navy?
Yes. It exists in all branches from what I understand. They may call it ADOS or IMA.
IMA is the biggest "cheat code" in the military. The ultimate "up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right B, A, B, A, Start."
I will never go back to being a normal reservist! Also, another cool thing about IMA is you get to drill with civilian agencies.
