    I just discovered your channel, it is high quality stuff. I served for five years and got out last summer. I traveled a lot while I was an MSG, and chose two of my favorite destinations to attend school at. I finished a semester in Bulgaria and now I am going to a school in the Czech Republic. The GI Bill is honestly one of the best things that happened to me.
    With the Post-9/11 housing allowance, I have an apartment in the middle of Prague, and I still have enough money to contribute to my IRA and I have some fun money. People need to max-out their benefits. I'm not the brightest dude, but because of the GI Bill I can live as an upperclassman in one of the most touristy cities in Europe.
    Don't let the matter that the school is "foreign" dissuade you. Each European school I attended had no problem accommodating me and they knew their way around the VA bureaucracy - literally the only hang up was the VA losing my tuition payment in the mail.
    Live your best lives and take advantage, my fellow vets!

      @@llllaaaaxxxxxxxxxxxx Hello Trevor, thanks for your inquiry. These overseas schools like the one in Barcelona/Dubai are an expensive ripoff, "sell dreams, and they aren't even high quality schools. The biggest red sign were the dozens of bad reviews I read about them. I've been told several times stick to the U.S. colleges as they do hold value all over the world. I find this true unless you're going to Oxford or Cambridge in the U.K. I went to an online university, which it's true these are "diploma mills" but for me all I needed was the printed diploma with my name on it, and it has opened a lot of doors that were closed before. I hope this helps if you have any more questions I'll do my best to answer them.

    I currently am working full time just bought a house. I did not go into college right out of high school but I want to get a degree in law enforcement. I have 6 years Army national guard. I would love to use my gi bill to get my degree. I guess I’m just unsure as to where to start… do I apply to a college first off and than apply for gi benefit. Ideally it sounds like being a full time student would be the best route but I cannot afford to jeopardize our mortgage or the regular fully time paycheck I currently get. I would love it if there was more information on online courses and gi benefits is that the same? Can I technically be considered full time while doing online courses and work full time or is that pretty much impossible?

    • @jasonburds
      @jasonburds  2 роки тому

      First step would be to get your Certificate of Eligibility for you GI Bill. Get that to confirm your benefit amount. You can do that while simultaneously applying to the schools you would like to try for.
      You can absolutely work full time and go to school full time online. Just make sure the schools you look at offer a full online program if you can't attend any classes in person.
      Note, that if you are fully online student, BAH is only $916/mo. However, if you go to a local school, you can take all online courses except for one per term and get the full local BAH.
      Just remember, the value is in the education and the future career it will prepare you for, not in the BAH amount.
      I will make a video about using the GI Bill for online programs. Great suggestion, thank you!

The catch is I wouldn’t need the GI Bill for the doctorate tuition, since it’s already paid for. If I were to want to go to School for Fashion Designing, could I use FAFSA to pay for most of it and go to school while serving my 4 years and once I’m done I could use the GI to pay the rest off? If so, will I have anything left over?

    • @jasonburds
      @jasonburds  2 роки тому

      You can absolutely get started on classes working towards fashion design while still on active duty. You can use FAFSA and TA while still in to cover this. At the point you get out you can use your GI Bill for the remainder. Having anything left over depends on the length of the program and if you're using the benefit efficiently.
      This is the general way I encourage people to complete their programs. Use TA and FAFSA while in to knock out early classes, get out and use GI Bill and FAFSA to finish their degree.

      I went through the same thing I ended up going to an online University each class was 5 weeks long which meant 3 credits every 5 weeks. If it would have been 2 classes at a time I probably would have quit lol. The way it worked I got 30 credits a year and with my military credits + the classes I took in teh military I only had to do these online classes for 2 years. Only had a Xmas break but honestly this was the best possible way to get a degree.

      More than likely they took a voluntary separation so that’s why they only got 50% GI bill. If it was a med sep they would get 100% GI. There’s no way to
      Ingrese your VA eligibility post service unless they went back reserve/ guard to
      Accumulate active duty time

      @@jasonburds If you go to a Part 141 flight school. Which is a school apart of a regular university program. The University of North Dakota is a good example. You must be enrolled in a degree program that requires the licenses to graduate. The GI-Bill will pay for the minimum number of hours for each course (PPL - CFII) including FAA exams. If you go over the minimum you'll pay the remainder out of pocket.
      If you have a disability rating, Chapter 31 (VR & E/VocRehab) does not cap the flight costs, and will also pay for things like iPads and ForeFlight and flight equipment to help your training.

    • @KyleFin
      @KyleFin Рік тому

      There's no requirement for you to finish your program. You can declare the major, get your PPL and then change majors. The same is true for studying abroad. If it's required for your declared degree, the GI-Bill has to pay for it (at a public university). So if your major is Finance, but you want to study abroad, declare international business for a term and the GI-Bill will pay for the study abroad as it's a degree requirement for international business, then just drop/change majors.

      @@KyleFin Gotcha. Yes, so you can get your PPL if you're enrolled in a program that would eventually complete all ratings - you have to be in a program that indicates you're doing it for career purposes, not just knocking out PPL for recreational reasons. That VR&E detail is nuts. Are you currently doing this? Would love to have you on the podcast to discuss using these benefits to become a pilot.
