As a current active duty soldier I think you’re doing us all a favor by explaining the details of the GI bill and how it works. Being a veteran, I’m sure you aren’t surprised at how many service members know nothing about this. Thanks for making these videos and I definitely will be showing this to a couple of soldiers.
Marcus, thank you! I really appreciate hearing that you're getting good value out of these.
Spreading to the young guys and girls is always appreciated and super important. They're the ones I'm trying to reach. Thanks!
@12:29 🔥
Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering about this specific issue. ⚓
💯
Utilized my GI Bill worked nights and had access to a computer. Completed my master's while making shift differential pay and the additional BAH with the GI Bill. It was brutal but worth it. Do not go to a physical college campus unless you absolutely have to and I strongly suggest working if you can while going to school.
That's awesome, Drew! Good for you. I think there is still some value in going to physical campus, depending on what you're studying, but online is far more efficient if done like you did.
@@jasonburds I agree, but I was already working in the field I wanted and had my foot in the door so utilizing the online platform was a much better option to finish school. Also, some people need the accountability of being on campus but I'm not that way. I like the convenience of logging on and completing school at my pace.
What if I don't really need the money but I want to go have fun at a college campus while learning a new skill?
You hit the nail on the head. Definitely online is the best for married working veterans.
💯 I'm glad you agree! Thanks for the comment, Dan!
I hate getting half the bag though
Thank you for this information. As a recent retiree with a family and other job opportunities, this was extremely helpful.
So glad to hear it helps. Congrats on retiring!
There so many benefits to veterans. Separating soon and do research daily to see what’s available to me, great Channel sir!😎
So many benefits! Thanks got watching! Let me know if there's anything I can help with.
Great video very helpful
Thank you! Glad it was helpful
Great video.
Thank you!
I also personally feel everyone should get a year extension to using there GI bill due to Covid as many people were probably just too scared to even go to school when Covid was at its worst.
That's why all the classes went online.
One pro that was not covered is how quickly you can complete a degree online.
This is a very good point.
This is a huge help !
Thank you! So glad to hear that!
Question. If I use the G.I. Bill online, do I only have 36 months to complete the degree? Or does it vary based on course load?
Based on course load
Hello and great video! Is it possible I can go a college that is a couple hours away? Do the addresses matter as long as you can attend your class?
Absolutely. Your address doesn't matter. As long as you are enrolled in resident courses and show up.
Should I use post911 or Montgomery for online classes that are out of my state. And if the MGI was chosen while in the service wasn’t there contributions made to it?
Depends on what your goals are. I generally prefer post 9/11. Most of the time it's the better deal no need to over complicate. Ya, everyone contributes to the mgib.
So question…if I go to a university fully online and I’m on the post 9/11 GI Bill…and after a year or two I decide to transfer to another university but attend classes on campus, will my GI Bill adjust accordingly? Like will I get more money?
Absolutely. Your GI Bill 'resets' every term you enroll. So changing locations, full time vs part time or online vs. resident can be adjusted every semester/term and reflect on your BAH amount.
@@jasonburds Thank you brother in arms! :D
for specifically online should you use the montgomery GI bill instead of the post 9/11 and do you also get the option to use both if you use the montgomery first?
I wouldn't recommend something like that. Trying to go back and forth between the GI bills can be risky.
@@jasonburds ahh okay i heard somewhere that you can use both but only if you use the montgomery first i go through the navy TAPS class next month so ill get to learn a bit more thank you for the response!
@@pottedplant4319 I have heard this also, but never heard of it actually being done. Perhaps TAPS can give you some solid information on it.
In a nutshell, the answer is no.
Here's the deal.... 📚
www.va.gov/education/eligibility/
How would I Go About Doing Online and 1 class in person to get my full BAH Would It Have To Be At The Same School? How Can I Learn More About This?
Go to a local school and pick the classes that support that schedule.
My college doesn’t allow you to take one in-person class & 3 online courses and still receive the full BAH 😐
You college shouldn't be the one that determines whether you get BAH. I could be wrong though.
Everything is online, even some in person classes are going online now and only 1 section available in person which is packed & hard to get in! VA lagging on the times we live in! online should be atleast 70% of bah not 50%! imo!
In theory, bah rates are going up and 50% would maintain the equal level. you can't have people going to an online school in San Francisco getting 5k/mo but living in Mississippi.... Perhaps home addresses can be verified, but online schooling is still a ripe opportunity for abuse and fraud... Idk. Just my thoughts.
I disagree. I went to Western Governors University which is a online only school. There were no discussion boards and no interaction with other students. It’s just you and the study material. All the tests are proctored and some get you real world certifications. You can finish classes when you’ve learned the material well and pass the test.
Travis, that's pretty unique! Most schools don't work that way. Honestly, it sounds a lot like taking CLEP exams. I am happy your route worked out for you.
What if I take one class in person in nyc but live in Pennsylvania with the rest being online
If you attend class, you'll get NYC bah
I want to go to school for a certificate will the gi bill cover that and for how long
As long as it's an accredited institution. The GI Bill provides 36 months of education benefits.
Ok its technically college in I have 31 months
How does the VA know if you’re doing online or in person
The school reports it to the VA.
is the BAH rate based on the location of the university that you're attending? or the zip of your house?
Zip code of the school
But for online it's all the same. 50% national average for full time students
@@jasonburds thanks!
how or what schools allow you to choose 1% of in person classes?
It's not 1%, but one class. Every school at this point has online classes. You can mix online and in person all you want.
@@jasonburds cool thanks for your reply mate 👍
Congress extended full BAH to online students until summer 22
Is this true even for classes that are designed for online in the first place?
@@jasonburds I'm sure they receive their full rates. However, if it is an online institution would they not receive the half national average rate regardless of the extension? The schools forced the students to remote learning and shook the system up and the VA stepped up to help beneficiaries.
@@jasonburds This is not true. If the school was already designed for online or that particular class/major you would only receive the online school rate. I spoke to a rep at AMU- American Military University and she confirmed that I would getting the $950/month rate for online classes. I also spoke to a GI bill rep at the VA and this is exactly what she said. "The GI bill extention which is until June 2022 applies to students that were forced to take remote learning classes due to Covid"..Which is still confusing because if the student DECIDED to take an online class(I am assuming online classes are "remote learning" right?) due to having high rates of Covid in area..like in January in NYU then all online classes at a local university should be subject to receiving E5 BAH. However I do not believe this is the case. I am personally going to Laguardia College in Queens to speak with VA rep and get clarification on this issue.
What if it’s a hybrid ?
Not a bad option. But generally the education and learning experience will be better if you spend more time in the classroom.
@@jasonburds 100% agree!!
Hello! Can I get BAH while active duty going to an online school in another state that requires for the final exams to be taken in person? Thanks.
No. You can't get BAH from education benefits on active duty
