      You just set me up for my PhD educational funding track! I didn't know this existed. I used TA for some of my bachelors but didn't finish in service. I was gonna use my GI bill to finish up my Bachelors out of state and come back for my hazelwood act for the remainder of my educational goal. With this i can prob do my whole Phd where ever I want! I was directed to apply for these VA benefits 1st because Post 9/11 most likely won't cover all the expenses with a degree program, so here I am. • @jasonburds

      If you have used 1 academic year (8 months) of GI Bill, this means you still have 28 months of GI Bill left and 48 months of VR&E. 3 more years is only equal to 24 months if you talking about academic years. So you will have plenty of VR&E left to finish your BSN program. If you finish it using VR&E, you will still have the 28 months of GI Bill that you can use for grad school or something else.

    I feel like everyone on here has a counselor that is actually trying to help them. My counselor denies me left and right, and always sends me the letter about why she decided not to assist me with things like getting my bachelors. Apparently, it is easier for her to deny and send decision letters so I would have to appeal to some higher authority than her supporting the reasons why I need the assistance and us working together. She makes me feel as though I am just a fast-food order that needs to be in and out in order to keep the line moving. I tried the VA forms and still nothing.

      I don't know what all you ask for... but I have never been denied anything from my counselor. My rules: make their job as easy as possible (communicate well with them, take initiative, send grades before they ask, etc), don't over-ask (it's easy to tell when someone is just trying to milk the system). If you think you're doing all this right - it's ok to request a new counselor.

    Hey. Looking for advice. when I started vre i was 80% service connected then became 100%. Now im at a point where as soon as i transferred to start my bachellors my wife accused me of assaulting her. Im now suspended because last summer she withheld my laptop and school supplies which i have a police report for. I had my gpa reset so i started off with a bad one. I failed the first full semester because i was attending criminal, custody, support, and divorce court. However each semester i slightly increased my gpa. However its not good enough. I requested to speak with with the dean of student affairs because my school requested additional paperwork to support my petition for suspension. So i spoke to my vre counselor to see if she could write me a letter saying i could enroll at half time and she told me that i should ask my mental health provider. So i did and then i had to submit a foil request to obtain the letter. So it clearly took more than a week to send it in. I was also diagnosed adhd last semeter in which it became hard to focus for obvious reasons being homeless. I havent heard from my vre counselor to see if i can take classes back at the community college again.

I finally decided that I wanted to go to school for nursing now and would like for them to pay for me to get my associates in nursing. • @jasonburds
      @jasonburds  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Kris! I am happy you found the video helpful! If you have 13 months of GI Bill left, that means you've used 23 months of it. That 23 months is counted against your 48 month VR&E clock, which means you have 25 months of VR&E left plus the 13 remaining months of GI BIll (if you switch to VR&E now). That will give you 38 months total. So yes, you should be able to get the whole program covered. Just don't wait any longer to apply.

Can I drop this course before the cutoff date and receive a withdrawal, and register for another course that'll put me back to full time? Will dropping and adding classes have an affect on my benefits if I'm still full time, and attend my classes?

    Also want to add this for others:
    If you're using VR&E already prior to the new legislation that passed a year or two ago, your Post 911 / GI Bill benefits (referred to as CH 33) reset to 36mo of full eligibility (assuming you haven't used your CH 33 benefits yet). Old legislation made your CH 33 benefits drain at the concurrent rate while using CH 31 (VR&E) and why this is important to note for those seeking post grad, 2nd degree, or technical training.
    Also, be cautious of your VR&E counselor as there's a lot of them out there that are looking for ways to fire you from the program and/or not allow you access to your full entitlement of benefits. They will even have you sign unofficial documents (always double check the form numbers, if there's not one, do not sign it) that hold you to a standard well above the VA guidelines. If you encounter this, do not confront them, but ask questions and record absolutely everything. Do not sign any paperwork and escalate the situation quietly. Report them to the internal VA investigation team with your gathered evidence. I guarantee they will be fired and the office will be churched up benefiting all veterans in your area. (I personally have had to do this and other fellow vets living in different states have also had to do this. Head this warning.)
    PS - Be kind to the VR&E counselors and do what is mandatory for the program without complaint. These ladies and gents get shit on all the time by entitled "Karen" veterans (male and female alike) that are trying to squeeze everything out of the system with lies and bullying.

      You are right, many VA counselors are not in it to help veterans. The battery of tests that they gave me recommended career fields such as researcher, scientist, Doctor, surgeon, nurse practitioner, PA so I thought that would work in my favor. I also worked up a whole dossier prior to meeting with my VA counselor to include department of Labor career field statistics, average pay for entry-level in the fields that align with my attitudes, interests, and abilities (in this case nursing), the schools that offered my desire degree program along with a cost analysis comparing the schools in my area (I even included acceptance letters lol).
      After all of that the counselor said that my disabilities would not allow me to enter the nursing field. This was rather comical because I don't think he knew the breadth of non-physical options available in the nursing field such as case manager, patient care coordinator, patient advocacy etc. I proceeded to ask the counselor what fields they would recommend then that would be tolerant of my disabilities and he told me that it wasn't his job to recommend anything; his job was to simply to approve or deny what I presented apparently.
      I wanted to work to the best of my ability but after that experience I just said screw it and applied for social security disability and was approved. At the end of the day you just have to hope that you get a good counselor I guess.

    Hi,
    I am a Army veteran with 90% VA disability rating and 40% Army rating. I am 28 years old. I would like to go to school to get a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and eventually master’s degree in accounting. I would like to work for the federal government. I have not used any of my post 9/11 gi bill yet. I came across this Voc Rehab program for the eligible disabled veterans and watched your UA-cam video on which benefits to use for school: post 9/11 or Voc Rehab. I haven’t applied for Voc Rehab. I have got some questions for you.
    A: If I use Voc Rehab to get a bachelor’s degree, will I get BAH just like post 9/11?
    B: how long can I use Voc Rehab? Can I have it until I complete my bachelor’s degree?
    C: Post 9/11 gi bill covers for 36 months of school. If I use Voc Rehab, will they take away benefits from my Post 9/11 gi bill?
    I currently have around 40 college credits. I live in New York City. Any help would be very appreciated.

    • @jasonburds
      @jasonburds  2 роки тому +2

      I am only familiar with a VA rating. What is the Army rating about?
      A. You will get BAH using VR&E (voc rehab), However, VR&E BAH is on a different scale (typically less, not always than GI Bill), but you are able to opt for the Post 9/11 BAH amount. You just have to tell your VRC.
      B. Everyone eligible for VR&E gets up to 48 months of VR&E benefits.
      C. If you use VR&E first, it will not count against your 36 months of GI Bill. However, if you use GI Bill first, it will count against your 48 months of VR&E. So use VR&E first.
      Hope that helps!

This means communicate well with them, don't ask them for too much, etc. Then as you're getting closer to graduating or applying to PA or masters programs, have a conversation with your VRC and explain what you have learned in school about yourself/the careers and why you would now like to continue in your education. Absolutely! I used 2 months of my GI Bill then started using VR&E.
      The application process is a bit lengthy, so I'll make a more detailed video on it.

      Yes you do. There is a VR&E rate and GI Bill rate. If you're eligible for GI Bill still, you'll get to choose which you want. GI Bill rate is typically higher. If you've used all your GI Bill, you'll get the VR&E rate.

    Sorry to be late to the party (9 months late). I was wondering if I utilized chapter 33(GI Bill) for BAH while using chapter 31(VR&E) to pay for tuition, does it exhaust my GI Bill in anyway. Would greatly appreciate feedback on the question.

      Chapter 31 comes with BAH. You don't need to use chapter 33 at the same time (you can't get double BAH).

    I have a question. So, I have 19 months left on my GI Bill (33) that expires 31 March 2025. I just enrolled in a trade school that starts at the end of this month - 1 year long.
    Hypothetical - Lets say that I was approved for VRE prior to start date (again hypo). I read somewhere that I have an option to get the housing allowance from my GI Bill because its higher, even tho Im using VRE. Can you confirm that? Then I may have a follow up question or too. Thank you kindly BTW for what you do helping us out.

      what was the reasoning? 60% doesn't really mean anything. All that matters is what your rating(s) are for, how your current employment makes them worse and how your desired employment won't... You could be 100% and get denied if those things don't make sense to them.
