Brazil nuts are rich in Selenium, which can protect us from cancer, but consuming too much of them is poisening. By the way, garlic grown in California, is also rich in Selenium.
You don’t need to worry about too much Selenium in Brazil nuts .. it’s bond with phytates so your body can’t absorb most of it , so actually Brazil nuts are not a great source for getting your selenium, you need to eat at least 10 nuts and barely get your daily needs ..
That's the rub that not everyone understands. Fat content can be good or bad depending on your diet. A healthy fat for a person who eats a lot of carbs is still not a great combination. Your body has to be adjusted to burning fat as a fuel source. I did a loose Carnivore for a while (ate nuts, cheese, and such) and once adjusted, I felt good. But that was boring and monotonous and I'm just as healthy eating a carbs, high protein and less fat. I still eat nuts, but much less. One just has to be consistent, know what combination works, and what works for them individually.

Being from the South I've been eating boiled peanuts since I could gum them. We buy a pound of raw, unprocessed nuts still in the shell and boil them in a large pot of fresh water that's lightly salted so that a little salinity penetrates through the nut shells (< 1/3 cup per gallon of water, otherwise they are too salty to eat). Cook from 3-5 hours (depending on the amount), occasionally sampling until they're soft (not mushy) and can be popped right out of the shell when pinched along the shell's natural seam. It takes awhile to eat boiled p-nuts one at a time so it's hard to overindulge in one sitting, but leftovers can be refrigerated in a sealed container for 4-5 days and they are as good cold as they are warm!
What matters in fatty nuts, we're told, is whether the trigylcerides are Omega 3 or Omega 6. That is the most useful information. Of course any nuts processed with oils, you can bet it's gonna be cheap omega 6 seed oils, so they're best avoided. Mixed nuts in bulk usually don't include that. I also avoid Brazil nuts, but mainly because they're so often "turned" and have an awful taste. I avoid pine nuts because in my experience they are more often than not rancid. No mention of pecans, which are very common in the US anyway. Since they're closely related to walnuts, I assume they're in the "good" category. Another nut that's very common (most of them are grown in my home state of Oregon) is the filbert, or hazelnut (there's some debate as to whether there's a difference). Personally, I don't like em that much but I think they're considered a healthy nut. A good substitute for macadamias (which are also very expensive) are marcona almonds, which have a similar shape and are (apparently) somewhat higher in fat than regular almonds.

@ There is a lot of variation in people so portion size should not be the same for everyone. What you consider a small portion may not be what I consider a small portion. IME, in moderation is something that cannot be defined and thus is not helpful. Also, some food items can be harmful to some even in very small amounts, so again, moderation is problematic. I disagree with this post, my go to nuts are Walnuts & macadamia nuts for their high omega 3 oils, every other day i add them to kefir yoghurt with chia, hemp & flax seeds which are also high in omega 3 oils. I stay away from almonds & cashews because they are high in omega 6 and are high in oxolates.
This is dumber than shit. Ya can find pluses and minuses with each nut. So peanuts are high in Omega 6 … walnuts are higher. So many others have pointed out the oxalate in almonds … all nuts are pretty high in them esp walnuts, cashews, brazil, pine nuts and pecans. Less in pistachios, Macnuts, and the unmentioned sunflower and pumpkin seeds. No problem with fats in macnuts … they are not a main course for goodness sake. A treat of 4-5. Best plain not roasted or coated with sugary anything. That would break the Randle cycle… don’t combine eating fats and sugar. If you are eating keto or maybe dirty carnivore they’re not the end of the world and are better than the ones being oxalate bombs. The one place I discovered the pitfalls of oxalate was in trail mix of nuts and chocolate. Having an esophageal response while hiking is not any good. Profuse mucus and clogged airway makes breathing frigging awkward… sent me into coughing jag to the point of vomiting. Lovely stuff oxalates… not to say a contributor to kidney stones. You like nuts? Eat them like a treat. The only time I ever saw nuts in the 60’s as a kid was in my Xmas stocking and in the shell. Sometimes sprinkle over veggies or in stuffing of turkey. Otherwise…. Fuggetaboutit!
I would have liked to learn about advantages (or not) of pecans and hazel nuts. Also Dr. Steven Gundry (on his YT channel) has a bugaboo about the lecithins in almond skins. They're a *bad thing,* but it's really hard to find almonds sold without them, darn it.

So, macadamia are GREAT as they are high calorie, why do people insist on painting calories as negative, as for putting on weight, again it depends on whether you want to or not, everyone assumes people are obsessed with losing it while some of us would love to pile it on.
Peanuts have a very low glycemic index of 14, great for diabetics. Peanuts MAY have this or that, but not necessarily. Your dissing a food based on SOMETIMES problems.

Funny, just watched a video saying how, too many almonds are bad for you, as they are extremely high in oxalates. Lick a piece of metal. Ie a coin. Hold for second. That’s it!
Tastes like the smell of a drill in a Dentists Office.
I would describe metallic taste as a unique off taste.
Great info! Thank you~
Please eat😋everything😋 in moderation
Define moderation, please.
@RogerZoul small portions thank you
@ There is a lot of variation in people so portion size should not be the same for everyone. What you consider a small portion may not be what I consider a small portion. IME, in moderation is something that cannot be defined and thus is not helpful. Also, some food items can be harmful to some even in very small amounts, so again, moderation is problematic. Thanks for
Very information. Thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve basically stop eating all of them , however if you eating any them in moderation then you’re fine.
Why not just give us a list . This is awful trying to sift through this
What about pecans?
What do you think about cash nuts??????
Are those like bitcoins?
@@petermadany2779 😂😂😂
I would have liked to learn about advantages (or not) of pecans and hazel nuts. Also Dr. Steven Gundry (on his YT channel) has a bugaboo about the lecithins in almond skins. They're a *bad thing,* but it's really hard to find almonds sold without them, darn it.
The 'Chestnuts' pictured at 13:14 mins are 'Horse chestnuts' which are poisonous!
Almonds are high in lectins...
your thumbnail shows brazil nuts with an X but your video says brazil nuts are from the 4 nuts to eat. please correct the thumbnail. i support your channel
@GBk-i9m….it’s the “clickbait” trick. They got me also, since I eat 2 Brazil nuts daily I was curious! SMH
thumbnail is misrepresenting, you made it look like brazil nuts are not healthy, but in the video you say otherwise...
Love Brazils, high in selenium
@@mariamunn4718 I am with you on this point!
~2-3 a day.😊
Exactly
He is addressing nuts and not seeds
you want to steal my peanut butter sandwich from me ? No !!
😂
All natural way.
WHAT ABOUT PEACANS?????
What about hazelnuts?
Nice Video Thanks For Sharing
Thanks for watching
Does ANYONE know if the 4 nuts that are recommended need to be blanched OR soaked before using? Thanks to ANYONE who replies 😊
What about pecans? That’s all I eat?
So, macadamia are GREAT as they are high calorie, why do people insist on painting calories as negative, as for putting on weight, again it depends on whether you want to or not, everyone assumes people are obsessed with losing it while some of us would love to pile it on.
Very informative
Glad you liked it
Peanuts have a very low glycemic index of 14, great for diabetics. Peanuts MAY have this or that, but not necessarily. Your dissing a food based on SOMETIMES problems.
How do you get the skin off almo ds without soaking them
Always soak them,the only way
Very dangerous in fit for people on lowfodmap, avoid all hi oxalates, histamines.. cashews are ok
I wish I could find walnuts that are not rancid. In the past, I could, But now I have to return most of them.
I remember hearing Arthur Baker, a well known Raw Foodist say that "No more than a fistful of nuts daily". Thats not so many huh. Easy to overdo! Just sayin'😊
I eat no more than 30 grams as a portion. It's not a lot but apparently enough when it comes to nuts. Brazil nut wise, that's around 5 nuts just. I also soak them overnight.
1 Oz walnuts, 15 almonds
@@djgibby1301 never 5 😮😮😮😮 just 1 or 2 MAX MAX MAX unless u want all Yr hair gone. Too high in selenio. Each nut countains 500 mg selenium. That's enough for one day!
Overall, I agree. But I disagree with some of recommendations. Even good nuts were discouraged for wrong reasons. They should recommend chestnuts, macadamias nuts and pine nuts. Cashew nuts to avoid. Almonds with skins should be avoided.
A number of studies ( if you look/research) support this information.
Its the dangerous oils used in processing nuts that concerns me.
Funny, just watched a video saying how, too many almonds are bad for you, as they are extremely high in oxalates. It was video where a Canadian lady caused herself irreparable kidney damage eating cashews in high numbers. The doctors comment was 'it was a good job it wasn't almonds' as they are much higher in oxalates. Is anything safe.
I had no idea that some nuts, like peanuts, could carry risks like aflatoxin contamination! This video is a great reminder to choose high-quality nuts and stick to ones like almonds and walnuts for their amazing heart and brain health benefits.
Counting calories is idiotic! Nuts are concentrated calories.
