      Well, there is a catch here. The sweetness of the fruits can come from fructose (which tastes much sweeter than glucose at the same amount.) But due to the digestion path, the fructose goes to the hepatic portal vein after being absorbed. Thus it does not raise the blood sugar count like glucose. This, of course, does not mean you can eat lots of sweet fruits. Just want to make the point--sweeter fruits do not necessary raise blood sugar count than the not-so-sweet fruits at the same amount. In fact, if the not-so-sweet fruits contain more glucose (and less fructose), then they can actually raise the blood sugar more (than the sweeter fruits at the same amount).

      Hi @@1DarkBlossom
      I understand.
      A couple of good carb sources mentioned below.
      It seems there is some science behind Jessie's hacks, they work so even white bread gives less of a glucose spike if they are used. Great knowledge to have. For the most part they are band-aids to hold down blood glucose from high starch foods but still some great knowledge.
      Better sources of carbs
      If there is enough dietary fibre with the carbs/sugars it seems blood glucose levels are steadied accordingly. For example I just had a bowl of at least 12-hr soaked and rinsed red lentils with a couple of small diced peaches and table spoon of full cream milk powder. It was delicious. *The The carbs to fibre ratio is about 2:1 for the lentils.* I experience good energy from such foundational fixes like red lentils but am still using the hacks when eating things like white bread/rice etc.
      So, simply using carbs that come naturally packaged with lots of fibre e.g. lentils, millets, beans, peas are foundational carb sources that make many of the band-aid 'hacks' unnecessary.
      I'm so glad I found some foods that provide steady carbs and nice nutrition without the glucose spike.
      Cheers
      Sincerely
      d

      @@davidfenton3910 Thanks for the helpful insight. The glucose spike is just one of my problems. I am trying the veggie starter methode. BUT, I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and I figured, gluten is a massive trigger. So, I am avoiding gluten all together. It’s hard, man. Nothing compares to feeling good but bread and wine are just delicious. I feel like crying when I think about summer and I can’t have a cold beer either (it’s cold now where I live, so I don’t bother as much for now). I know it sounds like first world problems, it’s just so frustrating.

    On FRUIT. For years I’ve avoided all sugary foods, including’hidden’ sugars. I also avoided the usual pizza/burger junk stuff, and I have very little alcohol. I’m pretty active. But, following all the medical advice out there, I eat loads of raw fruit. My weight constantly climbs if I don’t struggle to restrict calories (intermittent fasting, even with total zero calorie days of IF, had no effect on my weight). So I have to reluctantly acknowledge fruit causes this weight gain, it just can’t be anything else, it’s the only thing I snack on and often I replace a meal with an apple or banana. I’ve recently been diagnosed as prediabetic, so fruit has to go. It seems they were right after all, sugar is sugar.

      @@naze1266 Try the 50, 30, 20 diet. 1) 50% of the plate = salad (dark green, light green, red, yellow or more colors); 2) 30% carbs (there are 3 groups of carbs: a) Grains; b) Tubercules; c) Cereals (not the boxed ones). Ex. Rice, oats, potatoes, etc. Any combination of three of these three groups. 3) 20% Protein (preferrably not of animal origin. Ex. Beans plus seeds like chia or linseed, etc.). Could be lentils plus almonds, or beans plus chia; lima beans plus sweet potatoes, etc.
      Eat like this and you will never feel hungry and your Krebs cycle (a complex chemical reaction in the gut that ensures the right release of nutrients into your body, healing and rejuvenating it.)
      EDIT: Don't mix vegetables and fruits in the same meal; or fruits and proteins; it's better to eat fruits alone because of the different digestion times. Fruits are digested fast and if mixed with other groups, they have to wait until the other food is digested and will cause fermentation.

Look at kids today and it's obvious the culture of fast and processed foods have taken it's toll. Now instead of diet modification and exercise, the easy fix is "the shot". Unfortunately there will be unforeseen health issues down the road with this "solution" and the obvious follow up of litigation. It's a truly bizarre circle of life that's been created. 0:00 Start
    1:25 Explanation of Glucose Spikes and Their Harmful Effects
    Glucose spikes are caused by eating large amounts of starches and sugars, which overload the bloodstream with glucose.
    Consequences include chronic fatigue of mitochondria, accelerated aging (glycation), and insulin resistance, leading to fat gain, fertility issues, brain fog, and increased risk of Alzheimer's.
    4:35 Hack #1: Eat a Savory Breakfast
    Prioritize protein-rich foods like eggs, fish, nuts, tofu, or leftovers, paired with healthy fats (e.g., avocado) and fiber.
    Avoid sweet foods, including fruit juices, jams, sweet cereals, and yogurts.
    A savory breakfast keeps you full for 4+ hours and prevents glucose spikes.
    5:29 Hack #2: Drink 1 Tablespoon of Vinegar Daily
    Dilute 1 tablespoon of vinegar (e.g., apple cider vinegar) in a large glass of water and drink it before your largest meal.
    Vinegar slows the breakdown of food into glucose, reducing spikes by up to 30%.
    Avoid vinegar gummies as they often contain sugar.
    6:33 Hack #3: Start Meals with Vegetables
    Eat fiber-rich veggies as the first part of your meal to create a protective barrier in the intestine, slowing glucose absorption.
    This reduces glucose spikes by up to 75% when combined with the proper food order: veggies → protein/fats → starches/sugars.
    7:32 Hack #4: "Clothe" Your Carbs
    Pair starches and sugars with fats, protein, or fiber. For example:
    Bread with avocado or ham
    Pasta followed by a salad instead of the reverse
    Rice and beans together
    8:09 Hack #5: Move After Eating
    Use your muscles for 10 minutes post-meal. Activities can include walking, cleaning, or doing calf raises.
    Calf raises specifically activate the soleus muscle, which efficiently absorbs glucose from the bloodstream.
    9:09 Be Careful Eating This #1: Oats
    Oats and oat milk are high in starch and cause significant glucose spikes if eaten alone.
    Add protein (e.g., eggs or protein powder), fat (e.g., nut butter), or fiber to minimize the impact.
    11:04 Be Careful Eating This #2: Oat Milk
    Oat milk, being liquid starch, causes major glucose spikes.
    Alternatives like almond, coconut, or cow’s milk are better options.
    12:55 Be Careful Eating This #3: Modern Fruits
    Today’s fruits are bred to be sweeter, larger, and lower in fiber, making them more glucose-intensive.
    While fruits are better than processed sweets, consume them at the end of a meal rather than on an empty stomach to reduce spikes.

  • @JWS1968
    @JWS1968 Місяць тому +10

    This is what I have learned since being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes two weeks ago. It isn't the amount of sugar you eat in a day that is the sole culprit here. It is the amount of sugar in a very short period of time. For example eating a chocolate bar twice a week is fine but eating that same chocolate bar twice one after another in a single sitting is harmful. Also eating and drinking stuff with sugar in it on an empty stomach is far worse than eating that same stuff when you have had fibre. It is the fibre that acts like a filter slowing down and dispersing the sugar evenly flattening the spike as the sugar is introduced into the blood stream. I have started to weight my meals heavily towards meat. I always try to have a vegetable base in the meal that I ALWAYS eat first. This is important the veg first. I also completely stopped the biscuits and sugar in coffee. I drink more tea and water. I limit milk to a pint a day or less. Sometime none. On the weekend I allow myself a treat.

    The 'clothing' thing is mistaken. If you cover your starches and sugars with something all that happens is the glucose spike is delayed until whatever you have covered your carbs with has been digested...and then bam - you get a spike maybe 4 or 5 hours later rather than earlier. As for the savoury fat and protein laden breakfast - out of the pan and into the fire. And pinhead oats, aka steel cut digest much more slowly than rolled oats and they do lower cholesterol.

    I have been diabetic for 15 years now, I am 54 years old and have always worked out around 4 days a week on average. diabetes runs in my family. I have tried in the past to eat a low carbohydrate diet but have never been able to control my blood sugars. My Dr. has me taking four different medications but my A1C averages around 7-7.4. 1 started taking this supplement for 2 weeks now and my glucose numbers are down. My mornings use to be between 128 and 139 Now they are 81 with some 79. My 14 days average has gone down to 106. my goal is to either stop taking all medication or only take one. Not saying that this supplement is the cure but it has proven to me that it is helping in some way. I hope that this helps someone out there make a decision if they are willing to give it a try like I did. Bes of luck to everyone with diabetes

    Up until a couple of years ago, for a long time I’d been eating oat flakes with oat milk for breakfast. It was tasty and filling and I’d been led to believe that oats were healthy and good for the heart, it even said so on the cereal box; this is referred to as health washing (oat milk is particularly bad because it’s blended with seed oil to create the smooth texture). After some time I noticed that I wasn’t feeling great, my skin was terrible and my weight had increased to the point I was in the obese category. As well as breakfast, my diet was generally sub-optimal so I began to investigate further and discovered many of the issues and solutions covered in this video. Applying these solutions made a massive difference; my weight is in the ideal range now and my skin is vastly improved. I can thoroughly recommend following the principles mentioned here.

    • @luisv007
      @luisv007 Місяць тому

      Oat milk? I still don't understand why people prefer this to cow's milk (as long as they aren't lactose intolerant or have milk allergy). I found your comment interesting because I found most of the information to be misleading. True oats (steel cut or rolled) still can make a very filling breakfast and are low GI. Apart from changing your breakfast, no other information here would be significant enough to make you get the weight off. This video is more to do with helping people to attain better diabetes control than weight reduction. I find that baffling. Maybe you could explain this?

    • @HarryR1
      @HarryR1 Місяць тому

      @@luisv007 I think that oat milk is promoted as a healthier alternative to cows milk and I fell into this trap, rather than it being a preference either way. The oat flakes I also ate for breakfast were essentially ultra-processed food so, combined with oat milk, it was not an ideal way for me to start the day from a diet point of view. This was just part of a wider realisation that much of my diet, and the impact of sugars, starches, alcohol and refined carbs generally were the cause of my metabolic health issues. As I mentioned in my earlier comment, my diet was generally sub-optimal. So, as I researched the effects of this, I began to understand the impact on the liver (I had been diagnosed with fatty liver), the mechanisms that caused this, inflammation and insulin resistance etc. and this caused me to completely to change my diet to avoid carbs as much as possible or use the food sequencing or combining techniques referred to in this video. That, along with eating more fibre-rich whole foods was the reason for the weight reduction. I was approaching this from a point of view improving metabolic health rather than just diabetes control as I didn't believe that was factor for me. However, had I continued eating the way I had been, then pre-diabetes followed by type 2 diabetes would have been highly probable. I think the content of this video is helpful for everyone concerned about diet quality and it has wider implications than just diabetes control. I hope this clarifies my views.

    • @luisv007
      @luisv007 Місяць тому +1

      @@HarryR1 Thanks for your reply. I think that people see these alternative milks as a blessing, but they’re not a natural product. With regards to the oat flakes, it is difficult to comment on because I haven’t seen the ingredients and nutrition panel. Being diagnosed with fatty liver is a combination of your weight and your insulin resistance, as you had prediabetes. Carbs, particularly sugar, and alcohol don’t help that. Your diet was the cause of your metabolic problems and getting the weight off is primary in the reduction of insulin resistance and catabolism of fat in your fatty liver. A high fibre diet helps with your blood glucose control and with weight reduction. A spoke about the misinformation in the video. Usually when you eat foods high in fibre, you are also getting better types of carbs. Fibre and carbs go together in foods. Only human refinement of carbs leads to the loss of fibre. You should be very proud of yourself to get to where you are. You did all the hard work. As a nutrition professional it is always good to see people take the initiative for change. Even though the information that she presents is not always right, it makes changes that are helpful. She has a background in biochemistry. I also have that background but I also have pure chemistry, food chemistry and nutrition. Her knowledge of reading food labels and composition of food is poor. In another video, where she shares her approval and disapproval of food products, but her reasoning is misleading. Weight resistance training, like picking up packets of food, is very helpful in improving insulin sensitivity. Thanks and Good luck.

Yesterday i did the following: i soaked chia seeds in three different glasses: 1 water with apple cider vinegar, 2 raw milk, 3 i mixed the chia seeds with 5 eggs. I drank all three glasses over the day, the one with the eggs before going to bed. I fasted until 15 o'clock afternoon. Then i ate a mixed chinese all you can eat meal with liver, mushrooms, baked banana, calamari and other stuff. I felt a liitle bit tired and thought: well, i have big sugar spike now. I measured half an hour after eating and had 105. Thats a great number for me. I did it twice because i couldnt believe. I test measured my healthy wife, that had the same chinese meal: 145. Interesting or not? I will keep on testing the chia thing.
