By the way, I appreciate you having Barmanu (the little b***h :D) in there. I think outside of perhaps Tyhpon and The Bloated One I have probably died to him most. Though Hades can also be pretty difficult.
Edit: Oh and good point on how differently builds can turn out. It's not just the amount of possible character builds, but moreso that the game remains perfectly playable (at least on Normal) with almost any build, but the performance of builds and how they play can still be very different.

My husband bought me Titan Quest for Christmas 2022 after Googling “games like Diablo on Switch” as he knows how much I love Diablo. I was blown away. Such a fun great with brilliant mechanics and I was shocked to find out how old it is! They ported it really well and I thought it was made for console for how well it was done. And the mythology got me hooked too as I really love ancient lore and especially Egypt and Greece. I also love the seemless transition between maps so no lagging or loading times when entering or exiting different areas. @@aice336 At level 2 you choose your 1st skill mastery, then at level 8 you can (but not have to) choose your 2nd mastery. These skill trees are your typical arpg trees, the only difference being that instead of unlocking next tiers of skills at certain character levels, you have to spend your skill points on progress bar (so if you want to you can neglect low level abilities and focus on the bar to get to top tier skills early on). Upgrading the progress bar gives you some stats, health and mana, so it's not like you're wasting points just to unlock the abilities. As for the mastery combos, they are pretty much endless. Some are more powerful than others, but it's not like there is just one meta (Diablo II & III 😂). Set items & unique items in general are varied & plentiful, giving you even more options.

This game is really a far too often overlooked gem.
Some people might see it as just a diablo 2 "clone", but I always liked it more than the game it supposedly is a clone of.
    The atmosphere is really great.
I also like that it is one of the few games that uses "Medusa" as the name for the individual being rather than the entire species if you want to call it that.
Something interesting about the music is that apparently with a few exception like menu and bossfight music, the game doesn't seem to have classical soundtrack... tracks.
I liked the music so much I tried extracting it from the game files to put on my mp3 player and there are a lot of files that have a single instrument or sound, which then presumably are combined to form various songs in a more dynamic way somehow. I have no idea how the game does this, I only saw the sound files and drew my conclusions from there.

But atmosphere is something very subjective, so I can see why some people might prefer Diablo's more edgy world.
Granted D1 is far worse in terms of interface, quality of life features, scope and such, but it is considerably older and due to being the first game in and founder of the entire genre had nothing to build. I played this game in 2006 and I remember how blown away I was. The Immortal Throne, the first old DLC that came one year later added more complexity and fun to the whole game, there was so much missing before in the original, like mini-bosses and artefacts. 8 years later the game got finally a remake and playable multiplayer. And it -is- quite fun, combining your powers with others that is. I must admit that the first expansion Ragnarok was very much worth it, adding even more weapons choices. The Nordic setting somehow fit with all the others and I would suggest you play that. However the later two expansions feel very lackluster to me. Over the years I had fun experimenting with it's systems and I can reccomend it to pretty much aynone. • @mflax4331
    @mflax4331 Місяць тому +1

This game has a 32 bit game engine. Lots of frame rates drops or other issues can be blamed on that old engine. And all the stuff put into the game means that the devs used up all the memory they could get hold on. The latest DLC even changed the very first act - mostly by adding some higher level enemies (sample: monstrous boar before Delphi with a level of 10).
The 11 masteries allow to create about 60+ class combinations (usually dual classes, but you can run with a single mastery as well - some are good, some are bad, some are fun - but the gear you find can make any combination a success).
My reason for the durability: we all know the story behind the gameplay. We learned part of it in school. We read it in books. Thus the story and the locations = we know them / more or less. If you check other famous games like Diablo or Baldur's Gate, you need to learn the lore while playing. Titan Quest ticks on your knowledge from our school times. Nothing is really new. Of course it is not exactly like in the old sagas, but it is close enough.
The lot of masteries makes a lot of replayability. Other games have somewhere between 3 to 10 different classes (that is base classes). If you look into Path of Exile you have a lot of variety for moving from the base classes. Titan Quest has fixed ways within the classes and thus the variety is not that great. On the other hand it gives really a great amount of variety anyway.
It is and will stay my most loved ARPG - especially because I can play it offline. Even if you buy it now on GOG or Steam you will get all of it way below 100 bucks. (watch out for bargains. It is offered quite often.)

I’ve since played this game consistently for about 14 years of my life, having taken a hiatus at about 8 between moving houses and losing access to the old computer and getting my own one.
    This game is a masterpiece.
That is all that needs to be said. It has incredibly varied and replayable gameplay loop, very appealing and atmospheric visuals, great soundtrack and tremendous amount of build variety, as much for its era as right now.
The most recent dlcs, are great, they add to the gane world, bringing new ideas and cool mechanics.
The most recent addition of debuff shrines with the eternal embers dlc feels like a breath of fresh air, bringing a new level of difficulty to the game which made me relearn how to play the game in more ways that I can describe, from how I prioritize skills when building a character, to what gear modifiers I choose to how I clear the map. It is incredibly fun. It is so fun that I, a zoomer with next to 0 attention span have not gotten bored of this game in 14 years of playing it.

Thanks - this video just convinced me to buy Titan Quest Anniversary Edition + DLC. I was looking for an atmospheric action RPG, with good music and options, and everything you said was enough to make me buy it. I love mythology so this sounds like a perfect game for me, even though I barely play(ed) isometric style games. That is not a turn off at all, so perhaps this will be the game that will make me truly get into this style!

This is also one of the very few games that got ported to mobile really, really well. The interface is near perfect, there's a few quality of life mechanics added like auto-potion, and it runs well on any reasonably modern phone from S10 era onwards.

Idk if it was intentional or not, but I like the feel of the slower gameplay at the beginning of the game. It reminds me of a new warrior, just starting out with no “mastery” of combat. I´ll always play this game, it´s fun, you have so much possibilities in making your character.
My Templar can stand next to Hades without attacking him and still beating him with Dmg reflect and Hp regen of over 3k/s.
My Old Brigand could take out any enemy with one attack, if the attack/skill misses, damn hoping i don´t get one shot.
Even Thor Shotgunner is fun and strong.
Damn need to start doing some builds again.
Also if you runnig the game on Fst or very fast it can happen thta some items won´t stay still after they are droped and can´t be picked up, if it´s a quest items it´s best to put the game on Normal speed if something like the item won´t appear.
I also had made an instat lvl7 mod and instant lvl 85 mod as for veterans not to have ta farm that long and to test out builds much faster, but then EE came out and it gave us a lvl70 Legendery char and it is awesome, so i took down those 2 mods.

Great video! Titan Quest is my favorite ARPG with Grim dawn right below it, so its always good to see a classic like this get some love. I agree with most of what you said however what makes you think a Titan Quest 2 is not a possibility?
With a game that came out in 2007 (14 YEARS AGO!) it still has a pretty active player base on Steam (average of 1k-1.4k players daily which is pretty decent for a single player 14 year old ARPG). The Devs (Which has swapped a few times i believe) have been putting out quality content, bug fixes, QoL features, Full expansions (I agree Atlantis being the weakest and Rag being my favorite), and to me this indicates that the IP is profitable enough to still pump out content for the fans of the game, so why wouldn't a sequel be a possibility in the future?.
They even recently added an new endgame farming method in the past 1-2 weeks that allows the you to place debuffs on yourself to gain currency, you can then spend that currency to open loot orbs and they added new endgame dungeons that can only be entered by collecting certain keys that drop throughout the campaign. For fan service they even made the new area, where you add debuffs to your character (its at the very beginning of the game right outside the first town teleport), that new area is modeled afterthe opening cg cut-scene, where the medusa is killed and the soldiers are turned to stone. Now if these updates were just "cash grabs", as others seem to think, why would they put this much detail into these small updates and add these cool little fan service type updates?
With the care and attention they have been putting in this game lately I find it hard to believe that it will end with just this game. I mean this game has gotten some huge bug fixes as well that imo had no right to be fixed due to the age of the game and game engine it was built on. One of those bugs (which I have been wanting for YEARS) was the ragdoll physics (for enemies and gear) being tied to gamespeed and most importantly the FPS, so if I wanted to play at anything higher then 60 every physics based item would drop like a bag of bricks and the classic feel of smacking a mob across the screen was gone. This was actually fixed along with the Eternal Embers update so I can now play at a smooth 144fps (144hz) with the classic TQ ragdoll physics and the text no longer looks blurry. I don't believe a Dev team thats looking for a easy money would waste time fixing an issue like this, there are AAA companies that don't even fix huge bugs in their games lol.
I'm not saying that TQ2 is 100% coming obviously but imo all of this attention toward this 14 year old ARPG has to lead to something and I find it hard to believe they will just stop with the TQ IP after this game. I don't even need a TQ2 because I can play TQ forever but I would love to see a sequel or even another spiritual successor (similar to GD). I have faith in the Devs/publisher because they have shown they do love this game especially from the recent updates/improvements.

I'm not sure I'd blame Dark Souls when in comes to arpgs. The first isometric arpg was Diablo, no wonder most of them try to replicate that atmosphere. It's kind of tied to this genre in most people's minds. For example, Path of Exile devs started to work on their game in 2006, way before even Demon's Souls. I agree though, I'd definitely like to see more of these type of games in different settings. Grimdark - in general - definitely became a bit overused nowadays. I guess 2 decades of high-fantasy rpgs might have something to do with it as well.

Pilgrim is one of the most OP combinations by the way ^^ You just made a pretty bad buildpath there. Invest in the main bow attack and the passive buffs of Neidan (the one that gives attackspeed when not under potion effect is really powerful! Later on you invest in the Neidan defense buffs and look for items with manaregeneration to fully be able to max them as they provide a huge damage reduction. afterwards you can invest in the active skills in Hunter mastery that give you a buff or the enemy a debuff.

That's good to know, thanks. I just played this character very casually, with no intent to play it that much on higher difficulties. I knew my build was kinda awful, but I experimented a bit more and found a better combo. Although it doesn't really matter that much for normal difficulty. But still, Pilgrim seems like the last class I would play more seriously in the game. I want to try a Berserker (Warfare + Rune master), because it seems like a really fun combo.

Titan Quest is my comfort game. I could easily tell you from which region each of your scenes were. I've been playing this game for years - pretty much just since after Immortal Throne came out. I might have put 10,000 hours into it. I have dozens of different characters trying out different mastery combos, and I have chests and chests full of loot. Ahem. (Might be a hoarder.)
I'm pretty far into Eternal Embers - but only with one character I made specifically for that area. My other two Legendary chars are not there yet. It's definitely another huge expansion with many new monsters and new loot, similar in size to Ragnarök. The Neidan mastery is neat - but it burns a lot of mana. I've also tried one of the new dungeons with those keys (normal level), and the loot... is probably not worth it. They drop a lot potions and little else. In that way, it's a bit like Tartarus.
Even so, it's my favourite game by far. The only other game I play ever so often is Path of Exile, so it was fun seeing you mention that.

I agree with you; Neidan mastery is underwhelming: it's supposed to be a support mastery more than a main damage one but still, it lacks strong crowd control and debuff abilities to be reliable. Same for pets; it can summon two terracotta warriors, but because this mastery has no aura to support pets in general, players generaly prefer the other pet classes because of the better support.

I'm so happy that titan quest 2 is about to happen, but I hope they don't mess it up, I for one like the simpleness of the game, I don't want another path of exile, that game is far too difficult for myself, I love playing through that game's story, but the after-game is too difficult as I don't know which way to go with the points system, Titan Quest is much friendlier and while you can run into trouble it it always is possible to beat again.
