I think the most important thing about Titan Quest is that it realizes that real indo-european mythology is just as interesting as any Tolkeinesque high fantasy. It is refreshing to see a CRPG/ARPG/Isometric RPG that isn't just spamming the same tired D&D and D&D wannabe setting and story.

I would recommend some tips to the gaming behavior showed in the video. In the options you can adjust the game velocity from normal to fast even very fast, because on normal everything takes endless time (walking especially). Also theres a key for instant grabbing of gold, potions and essences, so you can avoid much more mouse clicking. Another thing I would propose to change is the indication of normal loot (white letters) to magic loot (yellow letters), because after reaching the second city normal loot is obsolete. In addition to the topic loot, if you choose a warrior staffs and robes are useless (for magicians these things are swords and shields) so don't even collect them, while selling them for gold isn't needed, because like it was mentioned in the video at same point in the game you have more currency than you could spend. For me the story is a core piece of Titan Quest which makes the mass slaying more interseting, but for other players I know it wasn't, so that depends.
Item drops are good and the rate of gear progression feels adequately balanced, imo. Drops are usually connected to enemy type, which is a nice design detail that more games should adopt. Also, it gets better the further you progress the story and - most importantly - game difficulty. As others have already pointed out, merchants sometimes sell really powerful green items, so that gold really does come in handy! :)
Worth noting the Devs recently patched in full controller support. I've been replaying it on my pc on a large screen in my living room, using a controller, and it is so much fun! This will be my first time playing the expansions too. So, really enjoying it. I might look at adding that loot drop mod, so thanks for that suggestion.
You're right, it takes too long in TQ to unlock new interesting stuff (be it through new skills or equipment) but the gameplay is solid. Overall it's the atmosphere that let's me spend a couple of hours from time to time.
Titan Quest supports modding and Steam Workshop has a mod to increase loot chance. It does not make the game easy, just removes majority of the redundant grind. Hightly recommend You can also increase the base speed of the game a little, from the options. You can also filter the loot on the ground so you are shown only high-quality loot. With mods and these options , tha game goes at a good pace.

One could mod Counter-Strike for example, there were a lot of custom models for weapons (a lot of them in very high quality) and that's gone, but instead you can buy lootboxes and hope to get something nice... yay :(
I used to play it a lot when i was a kid and honestly i loved the ragdoll physics so much since it wasn't that "common" back in the days... To the point that i had cheats to give me extreme damage to make enemies fly very in one hit xD
Actually Diablo II's good drops are much more rare than those in Titan Quest. Also, in TQ it is worth checking the vendors every time as sometimes they sell GODLY items which are extremely expensive. Also you can buy loot orbs with gold in Atlantis which can drop some really good stuff. So, gold is actually pretty valuable. And lastly, the good drops in TQ are pretty much all on Legendary difficulty.

Good review - I am fan of the game, but the problems you mentioned are true. On normal item drop is just bad, rarely I got something special. However, in act V (Ragnarok) loot drops are increased (vide spam of einherjar items) - I don't understand why they could not do that in base/IT acts in AE. On Epic loot drops are more satisfying. Nevertheless, game is great, just as Grim Dawn, I love them both.

I love both Diablo 2 and Titan Quest, and have played both off and on since their original releases. TQ is the better game, overall, IMO. D2R has gotten me to play D2 again, though. It does look great, and they're finally putting in long overdue QoL things like a larger and shared stash and actual one press hotkeys for spells/skills.
It should be noted that Titan Quest offers all new bosses in the higher difficulties. In the next difficulty, there are 3-bosses (giant automaton in Greece, Manticore in a cave in Egypt, and Undead Dragon in Asia). These bosses are pretty cool. The final hidden boss is only found in the hardest difficult, and is the Hydra that is on the cover art, but this boss is very lackluster, as it looks like a turd with snake heads and is the size of a horse. Furthermore, the drop rates get considerably better on the harder difficulties. Normal will grant you terrible loot drop rate, the middle difficulty will grant you better drop rate (though still a bit stingy), and the final difficulty will grant you much better loot drop rate, though still not ideal, but still way better. If the loot drop rate is a problem, try the harder difficulties, as the drop rates are improved (hardest being the best). Lastly, the final boss of the base game upon the games initial release (Typhon, on mount olympus) was a LOT easier, as the boss (Typhon) got its attack powers from the various statues. Destroying the statues eliminated the respective attack. Destroy a statue and he lost his poison attack...destroy another statue and he lost his ability to steal your health, and so on. What happened was enough people complained so much that the boss was "too easy" , that the Developer patched the game so that the statues were indestructible, forcing the player to fight Typhon with all his abilities, which made the fight incredibly tedious. Later releases of the game simply kept this patch in. I personally found it annoying. Also real quick...The main Director did want to add gore, but the Publisher adamantly refused and ordered the Developer to not use any gore whatsoever, cause the Publisher wanted that PG rating. This same Director would later go on to form his own Development studio (Crate Entertainment) and would re-hire many of the staff from iron Lore. Their game would be Grim Dawn, which is a better game with plenty of gore. The game has since received numerous updates & expansions.
Titan Quest was my 2nd favorite ARPG after Diablo 2 for years, in large part due to its setting, diversity and skill system. It's old and it shows but in some regards in still handily beats many of today's games from the genre. It deserves a lot of recognition for the variety in its levels, enemies and items, something where a bunch of competitors fail. Each act and sub-areas in those acts has its own art design, it's own enemies, items and music...in Greece you kill enemies appropriate for the region, gear you get is tied to that setting, music too...once you get to Egypt, you're greeted with appropriate setting and gear, then Asia, etc. Nothing is generic, all of that has it's rightful place. The variety is one of TQ's greatest strengths and it puts other, much newer games to shame. The 2nd highlight is TQ's mastery system, which enables you to pick two masteries with different skills and mix and match hem to your liking, giving you a bunch of class combinations, with multiple builds within each of them. It rewards experimentation and theorcrafters will love it. That gives TQ a solid longevity. And mods make things even better, with quality of life, rebalancing and new masteries. I would agree it's a long game but it didn't feel boring to me. I also agree that low frequency of quality drops hampers the experience, it's something that multiple mods were trying to adress... Sadly, it seems many of TQ modders have switched to its spiritual successor, Grim Dawn, and abandoned Titan Quest so new expansions kinda broke the mods. I would still recommend that you try TQ, even without mods, it's still one of the best ARPGs. Oh, and Grim Dawn is awesome.
About the good drops: TQ has this annoying but cute habit of having a game session where it will drop a nice amount of good loot... but it's all tailored for a character radically different than the one you are playing. This has the paradoxical outcome of encouraging people to start brand new characters multiple times to "build around" those items (since the stash has a tab that is shared through all your toons!) while at the same time keeping the game fresh and giving you a reason to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-replay for the 4 billionth time.
people who have played both these games say that Grim Dawn is better. And it might be true (but that's also because GD is newer), but... for me TQ is slightly better. I've only finished it once (and GD also once), but that's because I usually get bored easily of video games, not because these 2 games are bad. And what's winning me over GD in TQ is the scenery. I can never get enough of watching that green and the waterfalls, and the water in general. I feel so immersed into the game. As a matter of fact, I think I might play it again now lol
I haven’t noticed any framerate dips on the latest version on iPad. Far cry from the laggy original iOS versions. Great game and easily the best ARPG diablo clone on iOS.

Torchlight 2 felt like it did loot drops really well. I really enjoyed that game quite a bit more than I thought I would. Shame I have no interest in Torchlight 3.
I browse GOG for sales a lot...A LOT! But today I just noticed this game on sale. So I did some research and found this vid. Ive only played diablo 1 and I am not a fan of Top Down games, but I am very interested in Greek and Egyptian lore. So I got it.
titanquest is amazing great to see you cover it i get the console version now too edit: in titanquest you have to to check vendors alot in normal difficulty on higher difficultys farming bosses is key as n epic and legendarys bosses can drop new items
There came a point in the game where I just ignored most of the basic loot. I had already 2,5 mil gold so I couldn't be bothered. Thank god for quick keys
Good review. I totally agree with the item drops thing, but I think the big deal breaker for me is that so few of the skills and attacks in the game look and feel satisfying. Compared to a game like Diablo where it simply feels cool to shred through things at a high level with fantastic skills, Titan Quest never gets there.
I don't really like hack'n slash games but I might agree with you. My opinion will probably change though once I get Dungeon siege and install the Ultima 5 and 6 remakes onto it.
The one thing I do not like in this game is the feedback for killing, there’s no blood and the sounds effects are weak, it doesn’t feels as good as it should
Can we get Titan Quest 2, but with much more mini bosses, maybe more side quests (scheme of Grim Dawn) TQ is EPIC but we need new 😄 also base it more in Greece .... Theme is just super!

Loved this game. Bought it in Steel Box form on release day 15 years ago. Got the expansion as soon as that came out as well. It stands up today...just. Grim Dawn is much better in terms of gameplay. More choices - more loot, more theory crafting. more meta game things to do between slaying mobs. A LOT more. Grim Dawn is almost PoE in terms of loot, crafting and other meta game activities. It's just a darn good game and sometimes it's on Steam or GoG with all 3 expansions for 20 bucks. One attraction that still gives TQ a place in my heart is the different setting. I am BORED of the high fantasy Diablo, Wolcen. Last Epoch, PoE settings. Grim Dawn is sort of steam punk ish (and a few other games lean on Steam Punk as well) Titan Quest is almost always light, bright, warm looking. As someone who plays a lot of PC games in the UK Winter, I actually sometimes make a game choice depending on whether the game is light - or dark. (Maybe I have S.A.D? Who knowns?) But TQ is a lovely reminder of warm sunny days on a cold Winter night. I wish there was a good Sci Fi diablo style game. I've played the "Almost" games Like Warhammer Inquisitor/Martyr and even Space Siege. They aren't quite it. I actually find myself booting up SWtOR for my sci fi Diablo Fix - and that really is nothing like Diablo - but it's about the closest in feel I've found that is actually Sci Fi.
I agree with you Grim Dawn it's a very very good game. But it's not great. To over complicated and not nearly enough clear in explanation. Everything seems made so that the player has to be more frustrated by hiding things. I'm done with games where it's 50/50 between researching and playing the game.
I dont get why people are so into grim dawn. It is too item based (one good weapon and i started one shotting everyone). the exp system sucks too. Normally the bigger level the enemy is the more xp you get. Not in grim dawn though. When i was lvl 30 i was killing enemys lvl 45 and getting almost 0 exp... But enemys 2 levels lower gave a good amount. That is very dumb. The map vision suck too. Even if you explored the whole map it wont show you objects that are too far away from your character. Gold is useless. Why buy rare items from the shop when i can just kill one shrine and get 10 of them... And the enemy spawn system sucks hard as well. Feels like POE. The dialogue and voice acting is very bad.
for a completionist and explorer such as myself this game is a nightmare cause ill spend countless hours exploring and doing quite litteraly everything , a blessing and a curse i guess

Yeah with the Loot thing, you're right. In this case TQ isnt rewarding to be honest, and to get good and specific Loot you'll have to play hundreds of hours. I still love this game, but I also see many weaknesses over the time, which i didnt see as a child. But the game still has a stunning environment and very diverse enemies, heroes and sometimes ( in legendary mode ) challengeing boss fights.

I feel like the devs who made TQ originally, who now went on to make Grim Dawn didn't really learn about the loot issue TQ has - because Grim Dawn has the same issue for the most part. And again, mods have to be used to make the loot better or more interesting etc. But regardless of the loot being meh most of the time, TQ (and Grim Dawn) are long ass games, with tons to discover and see, literally millions of monsters to nuke and diverse environments to traverse. Good stuff overall.

I've found all loot based and hack'n slash games I've played a slog. Endless, repetitive, tedious grinding your way through trash enemies with terrible controls and awkward and unsatisfying combat and gameplay. Littered with Rubbish, low quality quests, simple and uninteresting characters but certainly not variety.

I have a recommendation, if you are inclined to playing these type of isometric hack & slash RPG's (Diablo clones)... And that would be Sacred 1. NOT 2 or 3, but #1. I found it an incredible game (though dated), though it may be impossible to play now, since the operating system is largely unpatched to play on current operating systems. Sacred 1 was nearly a masterpiece, imho...and I found Sacred 2 to be terrible and Sacred 3 to be abysmal. There are plenty of videos on youtube, just make sure that its Sacred 1 or Sacred Gold (same thing). Good review, but I had to slow the video down to .75 speed to understand the speed-read narrative. Leave off the red bull before recording, is all that I am saying.
No game has great loot, when you just play it to get to the end, you need to grind some bosses, and that is where the fun is. I never just played Diablo to get to the end, You had to grind bosses for a couple of hours, and then move on.

Sadly, it seems many of TQ modders have switched to its spiritual successor, Grim Dawn, and abandoned Titan Quest so new expansions kinda broke the mods. I would still recommend that you try TQ, even without mods, it's still one of the best ARPGs.

About the good drops: TQ has this annoying but cute habit of having a game session where it will drop a nice amount of good loot... but it's all tailored for a character radically different than the one you are playing. This has the paradoxical outcome of encouraging people to start brand new characters multiple times to "build around" those items (since the stash has a tab that is shared through all your toons!) while at the same time keeping the game fresh and giving you a reason to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-replay for the 4 billionth time.

people who have played both these games say that Grim Dawn is better. And it might be true (but that's also because GD is newer), but... for me TQ is slightly better. I've only finished it once (and GD also once), but that's because I usually get bored easily of video games, not because these 2 games are bad. And what's winning me over GD in TQ is the scenery. I can never get enough of watching that green and the waterfalls, and the water in general. I feel so immersed into the game. As a matter of fact, I think I might play it again now lol

Torchlight 2 felt like it did loot drops really well. I really enjoyed that game quite a bit more than I thought I would. Shame I have no interest in Torchlight 3.
I browse GOG for sales a lot...A LOT! But today I just noticed this game on sale. So I did some research and found this vid. Ive only played diablo 1 and I am not a fan of Top Down games, but I am very interested in Greek and Egyptian lore. So I got it.

edit: in titanquest you have to to check vendors alot in normal difficulty on higher difficultys farming bosses is key as n epic and legendarys bosses can drop new items

There came a point in the game where I just ignored most of the basic loot. I had already 2,5 mil gold so I couldn't be bothered. Thank god for quick keys
Good review. I totally agree with the item drops thing, but I think the big deal breaker for me is that so few of the skills and attacks in the game look and feel satisfying. Compared to a game like Diablo where it simply feels cool to shred through things at a high level with fantastic skills, Titan Quest never gets there.

I don't really like hack'n slash games but I might agree with you. My opinion will probably change though once I get Dungeon siege and install the Ultima 5 and 6 remakes onto it.

The one thing I do not like in this game is the feedback for killing, there’s no blood and the sounds effects are weak, it doesn’t feels as good as it should

Yeah... I've been playing TQ since it came out but the base game RNG for loot is pretty shit, so I installed a mod for increased loot rate

Loved this game. Bought it in Steel Box form on release day 15 years ago. Got the expansion as soon as that came out as well. It stands up today...just.
Grim Dawn is much better in terms of gameplay. More choices - more loot, more theory crafting. more meta game things to do between slaying mobs. A LOT more.
Grim Dawn is almost PoE in terms of loot, crafting and other meta game activities. It's just a darn good game and sometimes it's on Steam or GoG with all 3 expansions for 20 bucks.
One attraction that still gives TQ a place in my heart is the different setting. I am BORED of the high fantasy Diablo, Wolcen. Last Epoch, PoE settings.
Grim Dawn is sort of steam punk ish (and a few other games lean on Steam Punk as well) Titan Quest is almost always light, bright, warm looking. As someone who plays a lot of PC games in the UK Winter, I actually sometimes make a game choice depending on whether the game is light - or dark. (Maybe I have S.A.D? Who knowns?) But TQ is a lovely reminder of warm sunny days on a cold Winter night.
I wish there was a good Sci Fi diablo style game. I've played the "Almost" games Like Warhammer Inquisitor/Martyr and even Space Siege. They aren't quite it. I actually find myself booting up SWtOR for my sci fi Diablo Fix - and that really is nothing like Diablo - but it's about the closest in feel I've found that is actually Sci Fi.
I agree with you Grim Dawn it's a very very good game.
But it's not great. To over complicated and not nearly enough clear in explanation.
Everything seems made so that the player has to be more frustrated by hiding things.
I'm done with games where it's 50/50 between researching and playing the game.
I dont get why people are so into grim dawn. It is too item based (one good weapon and i started one shotting everyone). the exp system sucks too. Normally the bigger level the enemy is the more xp you get. Not in grim dawn though. When i was lvl 30 i was killing enemys lvl 45 and getting almost 0 exp... But enemys 2 levels lower gave a good amount. That is very dumb. The map vision suck too. Even if you explored the whole map it wont show you objects that are too far away from your character. Gold is useless. Why buy rare items from the shop when i can just kill one shrine and get 10 of them... And the enemy spawn system sucks hard as well. Feels like POE. The dialogue and voice acting is very bad.

I just bought all 3 expansions on my Android devices. 😊👍 But I can't get the cloud save feature to actually work, it's just loading and doing nothing. Should I wait more?

Yeah with the Loot thing, you're right. In this case TQ isnt rewarding to be honest, and to get good and specific Loot you'll have to play hundreds of hours. I still love this game, but I also see many weaknesses over the time, which i didnt see as a child.
But the game still has a stunning environment and very diverse enemies, heroes and sometimes ( in legendary mode ) challengeing boss fights.
I had this game but ended up selling it. Now I have the Xbox One version, but have not played it yet. It is an interesting game, so maybe I should...

I agree, I do like grim dawn but I think the world is a bit to cluttered, some areas just feel like a mess to me.

I feel like the devs who made TQ originally, who now went on to make Grim Dawn didn't really learn about the loot issue TQ has - because Grim Dawn has the same issue for the most part. And again, mods have to be used to make the loot better or more interesting etc. But regardless of the loot being meh most of the time, TQ (and Grim Dawn) are long ass games, with tons to discover and see, literally millions of monsters to nuke and diverse environments to traverse. Good stuff overall.

I've found all loot based and hack'n slash games I've played a slog. Endless, repetitive, tedious grinding your way through trash enemies with terrible controls and awkward and unsatisfying combat and gameplay. Littered with Rubbish, low quality quests, simple and uninteresting characters but certainly not variety.
Bad loot is a deal breaker for me.
I finished the main game and got no loot for killing the last boss and just give up

I have a recommendation, if you are inclined to playing these type of isometric hack & slash RPG's (Diablo clones)...
And that would be Sacred 1. NOT 2 or 3, but #1. I found it an incredible game (though dated), though it may be impossible to play now, since the operating system is largely unpatched to play on current operating systems. Sacred 1 was nearly a masterpiece, imho...and I found Sacred 2 to be terrible and Sacred 3 to be abysmal. There are plenty of videos on youtube, just make sure that its Sacred 1 or Sacred Gold (same thing).

No game has great loot, when you just play it to get to the end, you need to grind some bosses, and that is where the fun is. I never just played Diablo to get to the end, You had to grind bosses for a couple of hours, and then move on.
