Also, it makes sense that Karasuno lost. Their team was still weak. They relied on the super quick so much and were one trick ponies for the most part. This loss will help Karasuno become a powerhouse once again.

When Caleb asked “ Does Japanese school year start in September as well?” and Jacob answered YES before, quite a few people commented it starts in April.
And in previous episode when girls team & Iwanami lost, they knew it’s still in June from monologue.
Now they’re talking about the end of school year, and even Daichi becoming a new coach. I wondered for a while why they believed Japanese school year ends in two months though, the answer’s pretty simple. They still think school year starts in September in Japan (´；ω；`) If it starts in September, June is the very last month.
That’s the only explanation I came up with, and here’s one thing I want to say to Mods. Spoilers and information are two different things. Please don’t hesitate to pass over certain informations because it is good for both SOS and viewers.
" Haikyuu never wavers on its quality. " Thank you so much for such a great line to describe Haikyuu. What a splendid journey indeed, even if the protagonist is lost, but I think only the great writing that can make a protagonist lost in a fiction justified. It's really hard to recommend Haikyuu to people because what you can say? It's about Volleyball? I truly believe the arts of Haikyuu excellency lays on the experience of watching it itself. So again, thank you for taking chance reacting and discussing about Haikyuu.
Oh, Jacob. I feels really bad for this slap bet. But I believe your winning time will be come. Just like Karasuno on this episode, losing is impending winning in future. I genuinely enjoy your reaction despite you're not an active sportman, but you often right about stuff that you react to in Haikyuu so props to that.
It's going to be final episode of season 1 next week. Can't wait.

School system is different in Japan, so they can still be there (the 3rd year guys) plus the national tournaments are played twice (spring and winter) so I think there's still a chance to have the senpai still be around while still having a chance to battle Oikawa

god damn it my heart i love this first season but the second season brings sooo much more character developments and just no ones ready for like any macthes and you see then get more well they break free form their cages so to speak

I was spoiled for this season's ending, I knew Karasuno was going to lose, but I still cried because the feels were too real.
Having watched Haikyuu when it first aired, I can now say without spoilers that this was the episode I was DYING to watch you react to. And you did not let me down. :D
Just a note though: In Japanese schools, the school year begins in spring/April, and the show hasn't even hit summer break yet. You've gotten really set into certain ideas that may end up not being true, so don't fret so much. ;) Trust the story. Furudate-sensei knows what she's doing.

when i first watched this ep, i didn’t give myself a moment to feel emotional at the end. i straight up dove into the next episode hoping that the third-years would still be there, which thankfully they were. but now that i think about it, i wonder how the viewers who had to wait a week for the next episode felt.

Alright so here's some information you might not know: the school year in Japan is different from the US. Japanese students start the school year in April and end in March.
So this tournament in the 1st season is called Interhigh-Preliminaries and starts on June 2nd, meaning this current Karasuno team has only been training together for the past two months. The third years usually leave after this tournament (even though the school year hasn't ended yet) because the third years have to prepare for entrance exams (similar to how we have SATs) for college. However there is still a representative playoffs and Spring High Tournament (Nationals) which starts in October and will take place till January. That's why unless the 3rd years are either really great players or part of a powerhouse school, they usually choose to leave the team to study instead.
so there won't be any new 1st years anytime soon lol

the third years might not leave, caleb & jacob! they have the option of leaving before the spring tournament, which is mentioned in the show's previous episodes, where most third years do leave (to test out new leadership and focus on their other studies and future). on another note, wonderful discussion as always!

I distinctly remember - possibly with dateko - that they mentioned giving the third years revenge in the spring tournament, and was briefly alluded to in previous matches. also, as Reyna DuPre mentioned, they've already seen episode 25, for Patreon users, because they get a week ahead in advance! Of course, this could be my mistake in the first part, for which I'll apologize for entirely ^^

To be honest for me that's an unfortunate decision. I don't care about non-canon material, so as a patron it feels like a week wasted.
But yeah, they decided to watch the Lev OVA after episode 25.
I know it but why they not doing in other day than sunday i mean its just ova? For story thats not much important cuz some episode later already summary the story indirectly without deep story into it.they can just put double video in a week for just ova,thats can be really cool. As far as we have been told the OVA will take the sunday slot, postponing episode 1 of season 2 until the following week.

this episode was so heartbreaking I'm crying;; and yes, haikyuu will always go better and better and better. season 2 will heal your heart soon with its greatness, character development, comedy, team's growth, animation, and ofcourse hype!!
My heart breaks every time I watch this episode. The scene of food and tear is so emotional.
One thing I love Haikyuu is that it's so real. Probably because the author played volleyball in high school before.
Imma tell you right now, it just gets better! Like this was the moment where I KNEW I loved this show, because if it could get me this emotional over the third years, over Kageyama and Hinata's development, over Oikawa's determination, over a freaking vollyball game, over everyone, over EVERYTHING, the writers know exactly what they're doing.
Seasons 2 and 3 are amazing and I know you're gonna love them! Season 2, however, will always be my personal fav, so far at least, because.....well, let's just say character development.
(If you watched it you know what I'm talking about. Plus, it not even a spoiler because character development is just one of the basic components of storytelling lol)
It's kinda awkward that Jacob is so sad about the third years because the show never told the audience about the spring tournament.

BagOfSleeves：yes, the show did. right after Dateko lost they talked about next tournament starting in a few months and bros. reacted to it saying “Spring tournament！Yes！next tournament！”
They also explained in dialogue that 3rd years can participate spring tournament if you want to, but Dateko’s 3rd years are quitting since they’ve been called bad crap. Bros were reacting to it too.
So this is why I feel awkward ^_^ what happened to them after this episode?

this episode literally had me bawling. Probably because I binged it and i was INVESTED. But it was a very well done Season 1, and I can't wait for the rest to come out.

What really tore my heart is Jacob's "kicked-puppy" look.

This is when I knew Haikyu was great. This episode always makes me emotional and I know what's going to happen. I cried when I first watched it. You learn from your mistakes, when you lose you get up stronger so you can win. Karasuno wasn't a concrete team and they depended too much on the duo. Kageyama hasn't caught up, but his experience and character as a person are growing. Hinata is forever grateful for a toss. He didn't have anyone back then to give him a proper toss. To regret giving it to him was also a stab at him. There was too much flaws compared to Seijoh. How the new team ushered in as the match ended shown another beginning and ending. Haikyu keeps it real. I wanted Karasuno to win but I knew it wasn't the most logical, but it is also because I have come to want Seijoh, particularly Iwa and Oikawa to move in and win their own battle. To make me like the antagonist, to make my heart wrench with every back to forth play is the greatness that is Haikyu. They eat to nourish, to grow. The end scene was mellow and reflective of what loss is.
When I first watched this anime, I genuinely thought they would win every match. Most shows would have them go to nationals straightaway, despite this ending of Season 1 being more realistic. I stared in shock at the screen for so long, waiting for them to go "Oh it was actually a foul" or something because surely the protagonists couldn't actually lose! Yeahhh, this made all the rest of the show that much more stressful, knowing they could actually lose and didn't have unbreakable plot armor.
I kinda want them to watch Natsume Book of friends, but although ancient magus bride is not exactly the same i am still fine with that... still Natsume yuujinchou is the best shoujo/slice of life anime ever created (for me best anime ever)
I can't believe I am crying and laughing at the same time. I really like Jacob and Caleb. 🥺🥺 Their reactions perfectly mirrored mine. And to identify with how they're feeling feels so good. Like watching with friends.

It's not actually a spoiler... It was said on an earlier episodes... Japanese school system is little bit different, which starts on April... So the 3rd years can choose to stay with the club activities, or leave the club and study for the college entry exams... And you'll see who'll do what decisions... Who will leave and who will not... Well you can wait for this... XD
