We added two little surprises in the video, hope you all find them enjoyable haha!
Was pretty funny with commentary on commentary keep em commin lol
Hahaha we'll probably have them be easter eggs for ya'll to find going forward ;)
If you guys do end up doing more sports anime, another one i would recommend with great character development is Ace of the Diamond (Diamond no Ace)
Semblance of Sanity Honestly, please continue to watch this. Do you want this void filled when you finish BNHA? Go to Haikyuu! Best fucking thing created in the sports anime after Hajime No Ippo
This anime is amazing. You will notice that this anime has a lot of camera work and camera panning across a still picture. That way they didn't use a lot of budget on animation (had less than average) + when they use it you will notice just how dynamic the scene is...
I swear there is something magical about this show. It makes you feel so good, not just from hype, but its overall atmosphere is refreshingly pure and simple. You get attached to these characters not because they have a pretty design or badass powers, but because they are so human. I'm excited that you two get the comedy too as it's not for everyone. The enjoyment increases by approximately 300% when Haikyu humor is your type of humor ;)
Reyna DuPre thanks for explaining how I feel everytime I watch this show
They don't have any powers....where did you get that
X-Kun's Nightcore He didn’t write that 😂 He has never said that
@@cr0wnoss re-read it
X-Kun's Nightcore Yeah he said that not like other shows, you dob’t get attached to a character because of powers, but you get attached to them because they are well written
The camera angles and movements is unique for Haikyuu. Inner monologing and flashbacks are common in sports anime
I know no one is reading comments here anymore but I come back to this reaction episode every once in awhile just to feel nostalgic and hyped. I wish more new reactors start watching Haikyuu.
These guys must be like my 7th reactions channels for haikyuu
Same and read your comment for the third time and realised, HEY! I should like and comment
now you have LM Reactions
First person perspective isn't a common thing in Sports anime. Only in very few are the present and mostly in the ones that are well executed and done.
Like in Haikyuu
I believe Kuroko had it as well. But that one is almost the DBZ of sports animes xD
That Matrix Guy dude, come on, hajimme no ippo
Mine was Hajime no Ippo (much later after it came out and thanks to an anime club i was in) which was boxing, but Haikyuu was my first "sports" sport anime, that ppl play in school, etc.
Be careful about sports anime guys. Next thing you know you finished all of the sports anime lol.
Sooo true😂😂🙏🏼👏🏼
Omg you're right. I first start haikyuu, then kuroko no basket and then prince of tennis. I feel like i would watch all sport anime without realise 😂😂
@@shinichikudo4227 then diamond no ace lol
@@minjaekawaii2678 Diamond no ace then Major. Major is my favourite seeing goro grow each season from a child to a major league player is sooo good I love it.
Oh god totally
Voted for this in every poll
And now it's here!!
You won't be dissapointed with haikyuu 👍👍👍
10:09 Sure Kageyama sounds cocky but what he's trying to say is that Hinata has talent. Why hasn't he expanded it?
Honestly, I think it's because he simply just doesn't people well. I see a lot of familiar attitudes in Kageyama that point simply to him not understanding how to deal with people and properly convey the emotions he's feeling.
He's just really bad at wording his thoughts
Without spoiling why, this moment has even more weight when you know very late happenings in the manga (unadapted so far). And the music, the expressions and the VA’s (esp Kageyama) delivery of that moment… man they age like fine wine 😭
I was not prepared for this notification! I DID NOT KNOW YOU WERE GOING to watch this... Im so glad that you will! PREPARE FOR A LOT OF HYPE(was going to make hype kyuu pun but u already did that) :p
Jacob and I are so excited to watch this with all of you! There's so many people that love this show, it's got us all hyped to the max :D!
you replied!!! im so happy lol what do you guys think of opening song? this anime has a lot of great songs imo :)
Especially opening 4 and 5, THOSE WERE AMAZING
Haikyuu is fantastically done. Don't know what you guys are gonna talk about once you get deep into it though...
FreeSheep Exploration of character archetypes, handling of character arcs/development, rivalry, human nature, interaction amongst both 'allies' and 'enemies', animation, direction, sound design, emotional scoring, buildup and payoff (both action and emotional), OPs and EDs, familial connections (for better and for worse), relative realism in a shonen..... I think there's a couple of topics that people like Caleb and Jacob could discuss given their powers of analysis..... ;)
Darcy gets it ^^
Haikyu finds a way to make it interesting
i've watched A LOT of sports anime and haikyuu is pretty unique in its screen direction.
It's usually the feeling you get when you watch Haikyuu you feel happy and feel exited for the characters and their goals I'm sure you'll like it a lot .
9:10
“Senpai is acknowledging him”
me: AHHHHHHHH-
*this is where it all started*
13:06 - Okay, I can answer that actually Caleb. The choice of cinematography and animation doesn't have as much to do with the overall genre of sports anime so much as it has to do with the director of Haikyuu, *Susumu Mitsunaka.* This is actually Mitsunaka's second work a director, but his credentials from previous anime are mostly between being key animator, animation director and storyboard artist. He even spent time as assistant action animation director for various episodes of both seasons of another sports anime (and my personal favorite), Big Windup.
In the case of Haikyuu specifically, there's a Q&A panel at a con in Germany this past August with Mitsunaka and the producer of the show at Toho Animation, *Wakana Okamura* (Toho Animation isn't the studio that made Haikyuu btw. It's a different company that's part of Haikyuu's Production Committee, where a group of companies that contribute to funding an anime project). I won't link to the article that features the Q&A since it slightly spoils things way later in the show. Just do a quick search for, "Mitsunaka and Okamura Q&A", and you should be able to find it and read it at your own time. I will however quote a part of the interview that refers to a scene in the first episode (this one at 9:47):
__________
*Question @Mitsunaka:* How did the staff accomplish those impressive tracking shots like Hinatas tumble across the screen in episode 1 [of Haikyuu!!]? [Previous to the panel the audience got to see the first episode with German dub.]
*Mitsunaka:* Animating sports is a really difficult task. Since I was an animator myself I know how difficult this can be, so I tried to give the staff as many pointers as possible while writing the storyboard. We animated the movements first and then the rest while the backgrounds came last.
We didn’t have any direct references like recordings of what we wanted to do. What we did do, was visit high schools and even tournaments. We wanted to get references on how the players move to get a better feeling for how high school students play and recorded some of it as well so we could look at it again later.
I hadn’t played volleyball before Haiykuu!! even though I am a sporty person. I did pick it up though to get a better feeling for the characters and movements.
*Question @Mitsunaka:* Sports anime include a lot of movement. Did you have difficulties with that?
*Mitsunaka:* There exist very few animators that animate sports well. That’s why we gave those the most important scenes. The biggest difficulties came with putting them all together and making them consistent. We had some trouble finishing in time because of that.
I love Haikyuu, can't wait for next season. This is my second best sports anime, right after Hajime no Ippo. I consider you to watch it, it's amazing too.
We're psyched to watch it too! Loving the characters so far!
what do you think of eyeshield21?
Hajime no ippo is the best!! :D
for season 4!!!
So sad no one ever votes vor Hajime no Ippo :(
FINALLY!! You wont regret this anime.
"I just felt good" - Oh theres a whole lotta that coming up.
I really love your discussions. You always look into every detail of the show, even the little ones and form an opinion on it. I love that. And when you said watching it just made you happy, I was like 'SAME' haha. Haikyuu just makes me feel really happy and optimistic, and gives me motivation to get stuff done. I can't wait to see your future videos every Sunday -- just one more thing to be excited about every week!
Omg SoS really really good choice for a first sports anime. This is by far my most favourite one and i hope you guys enjoy watching it. Love all your reactions, keep it up!
My heart almost just exploded when I saw this. I love Haikyu.
First Hunter x Hunter and now Haikyuu! Your Patreons have good taste.
Haikyuu is superb. They keep it real as well. No super natural moves unlike in other sports anime, but they do it so well that it's already so exciting that they don't need to.
Hinatas spike gave me goosebumps... damn
I never thought that I would learn about frisbee watching a review about a volleyball anime. Love you guys
I literally cried many times in each Eps. It's a very heart touching anime.
I'm so happy you two started this. Haikyuu was my first sports anime and I absolutely loved it. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.
Haikyuu is so good even if you don't like sports in rl and anime , 11/10 would watch again.
YESSSS my favorite youtubers and my favorite series couldn't ask for a better day (:
Thank you so much :D!
I hope you guys enjoy the series as much as i do (:
Just marathoned haikyuu and am super hyped that some of my favorite UA-cam reactors have done this. “I just felt good” is such a perfect description of this anime.
Sports anime do a very good job of making you knowledgeable about the sport by the end. That's one of sports anime's biggest strengths, making you very invested in games you may never play.
My god. I had to come and re-watch your reactions after seeing The Normies ruin it for me. So glad we have reactors like you that not only enjoy the show (positively) but actually try to understand the story. Thank you for being so awesome at it.
Haikyuu was handled perfectly by the studio. one of the best
I'm so happy that you're doing haikyuu!! It has beautiful animation, fantastic music, very emotional and very funny!
I haven't watch a lot of sport anime but haikyuu just stands out for me, even as an anime itself.
Btw the music for haikyuu is made by the same composer who also does the music for bnha :D
And theres a character with the same voice actor as bakugou!
Kageyama is Iida too!!
MrChannelforwatching i didn't know that! But it fits :D
Now you can never unsee ;D
You guys are watching all my favourite anime! What an awesome excuse to re-watch them all!
Woahhhh they ACTUALLY watch the anime and react properly to it not just the hype moments I CAN TELL IM GONNA BE BINGE WATCHING THIS
This is my favourite sports anime. It's such a feel-good, emotional, well-crafted story that you genuinely love the characters in
Yas finally haikyuu! I love sports anime even thought I don't watch much regular sports lol
I don't watch regular sports much either, despite being an athlete. This show though, it's a great example of how to connect a sport with an audience of anime fans :)!
Ryan H yeah me too, I learned many things about that sport even though I don't seem interested playing sports because I am more intellectual than sporty. The time I got invited to play volleyball with friends and I unexpectedly played it with ease.
more than that, i myself hate sports in general. But sports anime can tell great stories and include awesome characters. It may even teach you details of it and make you get interested in it.
This is by far the best anime I've ever watched. I watched all three seasons 5 times now, and I'm about to watch them another time, this anime has the most epic moments and by faaaaar the most funny moments I've ever seen in an anime. This show is literally a comedy anime but then again it switches from comedy to serious in one go. It's so perfect omg
I've seen several anime of multiple genre and i feel like this is the best first episode of an anime to come out in recent years. its fantastic
Dont mind me. I'm just gonna rewatch this over and over now that Season 4 has been announced!!!!
I do too but *ehem copyright, *ehem
I'm happy I picked up this reaction! Haikyu is definitely one of the most realistic sports animes out there, and the story of our mc and other characters have been written so well. I love the anaylis. I'll definitely continue watching.
Oh my goodness seeing this in recommendations surprised me. *A*)...
Going first person and etcetera changing of camera angles IS a sport anime thing but I think Haikyuu is one of the best sport animes that uses this creatively and makes it flow well. This anime is at times very visually appealing just by art direction. The animation and music are also great which helps.
The anime does go into explaining some positions and tactics more as the time goes on but personally I never found it overbearing: it's balanced. Also as volleyball (like all sports at higher level) gets a lot more complex, I've heard many people who are not familiar with the sport say they would have been totally lost if those didn't exist. I play volleyball so I can't really comment. Making mistakes, showing them and growing from them is also a big part of Haikyuu, better get used to it. =) I hope you'll like this show!
I found it hilarious how Jacob was being talked over the entire time. He kept opening his mouth, and getting only a small sound in. Like, let the boy talk, jeez! XD
Yesss!! Finally!!! You guys doing Haikyuu!! Trust me you guys will love it and enjoyed every episode!! Now you guys keep doing my fav anime Boku No Hero, Hunter X Hunter, and now Haikyuu! Keep up the great work 👍👍👍
haikyuu, bnha and hunterxhunter ; i can't believe you're reacting to 3 of my faves this is amazing
army? also same, I love all three
we're everywhere it's amazing ;)
Haikyuu! F**k yeah! I hope you watch all the three seasons. This was also my first sports anime and damn did i miss out. It's so good!
Haikyuu is a seriously great series guys! I think you might wanna know the music is done by Yuki Hayashi, the same man behind My Hero Academia's wonderful soundtrack, as well. And the "king" character is voiced by the same voice actor as Iida as well.
Omg, I am SO HAPPY you guys decided to pick this gem of an anime up! Haikyuu is one of my all time favorites up there with Boku No Hero--all aboard the hype train!!
OHHH!!! YESSS!!!! HOLYYYYT SHITTT!
My exact reaction!!!
YES! I WASNT EXPECTING THIS BUT IT MADE ME VERY HAPPY! first HXH and now this
In anime like Haikyuu (or the most similar in my opinion(style wise)) Ace of the Diamond, by the first season, you’ll completely understand how the game works and even be able to watch real matches. It’s something really amazing about these sports anime, you don’t expect or realize it, but they’re teaching you to understand and appreciate the sport.
Oh man, I can't wait for more! This anime just gets better and better and you're gonna be introduced to a lot of characters and friendships and rivalries and the matches are gonna get your hearts pumping and your emotions are going to be EVERYWHERE and I'm just really hype because you guys are already really into it ^u^
what i actually liked about kageyama is the fact that even though it’s blatantly obvious they’re going to win, he still strives to keep giving his all (and he expects his teammates too) until the very last point of the game. sure, he’s arrogant and cocky, but he’s passionate about the sport and wants that in his teammates too, which is why his message of “don’t give up or get lazy until you’ve actually won” is correct, but often times comes off in a negative way bc he doesn’t know how to get it across unless he tells his teammates sternly. a lot of people misjudge him in the beginning but i actually enjoyed his character
I keep coming back to re-watch your watchthrough because I get really down sometimes by the fact that everyone I know in person doesn’t really get why I love haikyuu, but you guys just GET it, and your love for haikyuu is really infectious, and so fun to watch! 😄
YES IM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR TAKES ON THIS! IM SO HAPPY
Hype-kyuu! is damn right!
I'd previously only watched Baby Steps (Tennis) when it comes to sports anime (and I absolutely loved it), but Haikyuu! is different. The amount of hype and excitement it generates is just through the roof!
Actually... Because of that stupid trend where second seasons are just noted by having two exclamation marks instead of one I ended up watching the first 10 episodes of the second season before realising...
It just seemed like an in medias res kinda beginning, as it recapped the first season quite subtly and nicely.
Another factor in it taking me so long to realise was probably the combination of binging, it being the middle of the night, and me absolutely loving it!
The animation in particular is just breathtaking at times! You've only seen the first snowflake on the top of the ice berg so far! And the second season! Damn, the second season's beautiful!
Looking forward to Sunday for the next episode! Can't wait for you to see all the characters and their interactions, which actually I find to be the most enjoyable aspect of the series, even moreso than the epic games and animation!~
+NorthmanChael Well said! Excellent commentary! Jacob and I are excited for you all to see our 2nd episode reaction too!
I liked Baby Steps too.
I also love Haikyuu, but Baby Steps has a better element of analytical play that I enjoy.
Did you notice when Hinata went for that last jump. He had extra shadows around him to emphasize how fast he was running? It's stuff like that you see in sports anime or they might get what's referred to as god mode. There is a streak of light showing up in or around their eyes. If you get a chance; Major was one of the longest and best sports anime I've ever seen. If you like longer anime? You get to watch a boy with a passion for baseball grow up from childhood to adulthood. What I find the most fun about sports anime is watching the characters grow from nothing into something. If you add in the passion of the game and those simple, but intense Goku like characters. It is a win win every time. This is where those stereotypical inspirational stories come from.
Is it weird to say that I love this show just because of the way the humor is delivered/expressed to the audience? The comedic aspect reminds me of FMA:B and I really find it unique and very funny you just laugh so hard and wanting more of it.
And Kiyoko-chan is the prettiest anime character I have ever seen.
Thank you for watching this! It's one of my favorites, so I hope you enjoy it!
I fuckin choked on my food
Shit yes Haikyuu
Yes Haikyuu!!!! Omg haikyuu i love haikyuu!!! You just made me cry guys
Btw "the king" is voiced by the same dude voicing Iida in MHA
There's a lot of MHA VAs in this show hehehe especially in the main team
Shoyo's two helpers/friends played basketball and soccer respectively. They needed six players to enter the tournament. So with Hinata and the 3 (6th graders) 1st years, they filled the hole to allow his very first real game.
This is such a nice surprise! Haikyuu is easily the best sport anime of this decade, you won't regret picking it
It is not only the best sports anime but the best anime overall for me!!
Finished 3 seasons.....it is now my #1 fav anime.
The best thing about Haikyuu is that it just keeps getting better each time.
Each day, when it was time to watch Haikyuu.......I used to get hyped and everytime it exceeded my expectation
Each character is likeable.
Haikyuu gets a 11/10 from me!
Looks like I'm gonna rewatch this anime with you guys! I definitely haven't watched a sports anime until Haikyuu and I can say it's outstanding, that's all I'm gonna say. It did make me watch other sports anime but this is still my favourite.
After you finish this, you definitely have to watch Baby Steps as the next Sports Anime
It's been underrated for so long only a few discuss about how Realistic this Tennis Anime is.
Prince of Tennis is kind of a Mess, it's on the levels of impossible like Kuroko.
But I definitely assure you, you will also learn a more realistic perspective of Tennis on Baby Steps.
There's an anime version of it? wow... I liked the manga, should check the anime out. Thanks man
This gives me a reason to pick this show back up didn't expect a reaction to it from y'all lol
Yes! Haikyuu! The streamlined and modern Slam Dunk! I'm so glad you guys picked this up.
woah, didn't expect to see this.
hope you guys enjoy this, one of my favorite sports anime
YES it only gets better from here!
This is my first time posting a comment, and I just wanted to tell you guys how glad I am seeing you start reacting on Haikyuu!!!! Just like how others have said this anime is not just about action, superb techniques or friendship (they're all fantastic of course), but it shows how Shoyo and everybody around him learn and get better from every time they play and either lose or win. All the emotions are so realistic, which to my opinion makes this a wonderful drama/sports anime, rather than just simply showing off ridiculous god-like techniques which a lot of other sports anime do nowadays. Haikyuu gave me heaps of strength and courage when I was in depression, and now having overcome everything, I would say that this anime was one of the greatest help I've had, so I'm sure you guys will definitely enjoy it :) Now your reaction videos on Haikyuu is another thing to look forward for every week!!
SAME! I didnt enjoy any sports anime until this one! Made me feel good and it has that warm feeling of inspiration from wathcing this anime!
I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this anime. Haikyuu was my first sports anime and I freaking love this anime. I hope ya guys have a fun time with this anime because it's worth your time
Ugh this anime is so beautiful with an amazing score!! Same composer from Boku no hero Academia
You're going to love this and probably open up your eyes for a LOT of good sports animes out there.. Hajime No Ippo, Major etc.. there are many. Kuroko as well.
Little did they know that that small high school volleyball club, in that small town in the corner of that small island nation... would give birth to the greatest anime they'd ever seen!
Why is their haikyuu series have less views? this channel for me has the best reaction to haikyuu (and also otakudesne) they just genuinely love the show and not in it just bc its "trending"
I found your channel so late ;___; 3 years later omg but I really enjoy the fact that you guys took notes during the episode!
Haikyuu has been fighting for it's spot to be played, like Hinata waited for a team
yaaayyyyyy I'm glad you started Haikyuu!!!!!!!!!! I really love you guys and Haikyuu is one of my favs as well
I could watch people rant about Haikyuu for days and still be interested and invested
OHMIGOD!!! I just finished season 3 of this and am absolutely in love with it. You guys are in fir a journey!!!
Really liked what you did with this video! Awesome to see your reaction not only to your first sports anime, but also to Haikyuu!! Please continue this reaction series through to season 3!
You'll love haikyuu a lot. I'm reading the manga.
wow its been over two years since this came out, and I started watching this channel, I remember randomly finding this when IT was the only episode out and right away becoming a patreon, while I don't watch every series, and because of school am no longer a patreon I am so happy I found you guys.
Haikyuu is such a good sport series, glad to see you guys watching it
And you're going to feel good with EVERY. SINGLE. EPISODE.
Omg please don't stop watching Haikyuu
You two are gonna love this show. Also a bonus, the composer of Haikyuu also did MHA OST so if you're a fan of that as well
AWW HELL YESSSSS, I am SO EXCITED for you guys to watch this!! I hope you enjoy the ride, I absolutely love this series!
I freaking love sports anime xD i watched a brunch of Them growing up as a kid coming home from school. Even watched one of that ribbon dance thingy xD
Haikyuu does the first person view and flashbacks quite well but both things are quite common in sports anime especially the cut between flashbacks that's very much expected in every arc imo.
I love it that at least one of you watched Chihayafuru. It is so a beautiful Anime.
omg I just found your channel, and -squeeel- I was so happy to see that you guys reacted to haikyuu!!!! :D
This is arguably the GOAT of sports anime. Kageyama has that mamba mentality.
Baby steps will forever be my favorite sports anime.
I've watched like, 5 minutes of your reaction and already love it. I myself started watching Haikyuu first bc I love volleyball and am a player, second that I like to learn Japanese and watching is a fun way of doing that. I have watched it 5 times already and can never get enough of it.
I've never really started a sports anime and it'll be nice to explore this one with you guys.
Dude, I just finished this anime and now I'm getting this? Talk about pleasant surprises.
Oh my gosh! You will not be disappointed! I'm so happy you guys are doing this! :D This is my favorite sports anime too!
Loved this commentary, very insightful and you actually paid attention at the important parts…subscribed
A bit of trivia: When Sho says "I can jump" he actually says "I can FLY"
The best thing about this show is not only does everyone get shine but the MC and rival are so perfect. The rival has respect for the MC even in episode 1 when he is nothing. As much as Kagayama is a dick to his team back then he is also trying to get them to respect their opponent and take them seriously. Also it helps they have a dope color scheme with both if their hair colors and the team colors. So cool.
