I have been a fan of this movie since it came out. It's just been in the last couple of years (since I discovered reaction videos) that I realized he opened it to Exodus! This movie is full of easter eggs!!
I never noticed that, and I have lost count of many times I’ve watched this! It’s one of my all-time favorite movies. The fact that it was Exodus is such a little gem of trivia!!!
My favorite moment of the movie is when Red finds the money Andy left him under the rock, and then frantically checks around him for anyone who might have seen. The man is sitting in the middle of an empty field with only the sounds of birds and bugs, but prison will shape a man.
This was a two or 300 page short story and almost nothing was cut for the film, it just shows you how much screen time is needed to fully adapt a book to the screen. The most major change from the book was there was many wardens over the course of Andy's incarceration, not just one. For the movie it makes sense to have one since that allows you to have a common antagonist for the entire story.
@@SuperSayinSolidSnek Also Red was a white guy. I read the book, but it's been awhile. The Green Mile, The Shinning, Christine, Carrie. Some of his books have made very good movies. some not. I know I left some movies out, but these are the ones who come to mind.
I've watched this movie so many times, but your reaction made me see it with new eyes. I love your laid-back but insightful reactions. So many UA-cam reactors think they need to be loud and make jokes all the time while watching. I prefer videos like yours when you only talk when you have something worth saying. Thank you.

Honestly guys the hype around this film is real. The most amazing thing about this film is it wasn't really a box office success, but when it went to VHS Video rental the word got around and it became an utter cult classic watched by millions, it is one of the the greatest films of all time. Great reaction guys we could see you were genuinely moved by it. Incredible to think also that it was only a Steven King short story called Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption and became this epic film. A film of true hope conquers all, a beautiful ending on the beach after all they had been through with a glorious panoramic shot from above. As you love Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul knew you would love this one.
Red and Andy, two men who would never have met in life outside of prison. Different skin color, different education, place of residence and "class" in the sense of above and below". All that is so infinitely "important" to us humans. They meet each other and quickly become friends, as they recognize each other's true worth. By breaking out, Andy can create a safety net for Red. The new home is also there. As such, Brooks had no network, no friends outside of prison, simply no one and himself a nobody. As if made for relapse or suicide. Is that the point of being released from prison? An outstanding film with outstanding actors.
I get the sentiment and generalization, but I will nitpick as to Red and Andy "never" meeting in life and possibly forging any connection, any friendship. As much as there is no denying divisions of the past ( based on innumerable factors ), the same divisions exist today, yet who knows how many bonds and relationships were real and authentic and tight then, and now. Across class, education, skin tone. If the implication is that there was such tribalism then, it still is a thing today, and I'm not necessarily saying it's all a bad thing, either. ( Perhaps you aren't as well. My gut reaction was that you were over-simplifying and assuming the worst of society when in fact the "good news" and examples of America aren't publicized nor celebrated as much as the bad stuff. Pity. I say we don't bow to the worst of all generalizations and assumptions. The truth, then and now, is more nuanced than that. )
That's one of the things that was magical about the 1980s... I was a construction worker standing in line at 7/11. Ahead of me was a banker in a 3 piece suit, having a conversation with the man in front of him, wearing worn, oil-stained clothes. When the first man reached the cashier, he pulled out a horse-choking wad of cash; he was an oil field worker who'd just gotten paid. But he and the banker talked as social equals. It was beautiful to see.
@@mena94x3Weren't Irish people discriminated against in the US too? Not from there, but I'm pretty sure I've seen "no Irish allowed" black and white photos, just like the ones from the Jim Crow era.

One of the most impressive aspects of Andy's escape is that he kept it a secret. He was planning and doing all of this to eventually escape, for 19 years, and he never so much as hinted about it to anyone, not even his best friend Red.
Another little detail is Andy mentions "Harvey the Rabbit" (a 6 foot invisible rabbit from a movie) as being as real as his fake identity, and Red gets an unsigned postcard with a giant rabbit on it. :)
In the movie The Voice said that Geology is the study of time and pressure. That building (prison) was old and apparently the walls became brittle. It takes 600 years when the building is new. 19 years when the building is old. Andy knew about geology.

"Hope is the thing with feathers." Emily Dickinson. This movie is about that poem. Hope is a beautiful and fragile thing. Easily broken and so hard to hold onto. Red started this story without hope, and at the end, he was filled with it. So freaking beautiful.
I like that rehabilitated approved scene towards the end. Its literally saying " If an old prisoner can give you a life lesson while admitting his crimes and moving you, hes not a danger to society anymore" 👍

I love that notes are being taken during a movie 👏❤
Sheim takes notes for everything, i (swizz) has a good memory so i go off that🤣
Classic movie. One of the all time greats for sure. Its like forrest gump, when you see it on TV you watch it. No questions asked.
I've seen thousands of movies in my life. I have to say this is in my top 100 for sure. Maybe top 10.
Thanks for your work and I hope the best for you on your endeavors.
I love seeing these movies vicariously through others again. Closest I can get to seeing it for the first time again. This one and LOTR are always a rite of passage movie for any reaction channel. Starwars original trilogy too... everyone is always so surprised by how good that actually is. If you haven't done it yet, that'll be another subscriber surge just like this film. Shout out to Brooks, Tommy, Red and Andy.
You guys literally make the best reactions!!!
I get so pumped every time yall upload.
If you would ever be interested in a different kinda movie. The Kings Speech, is an excellent award winner about history and overcoming disability.
It's my all time favorite movie. I would love it if yall wanted to check it out
Beautiful film. The end always gets me in the feels 😢
Great reaction, I hadn't connected 'shitty pipe dreams' before. You guys rock.
One of my top 3 movies of all time! Love your reactions. You rarely miss anything and are so locked in... love that you noticed the harmonica in the score near the end! For as many times as I've seen this movie, I never caught the "shitty pipe dream" line.
Having already seen this movie a hundred times, you guy’s commentary was fun :)
Happy you found some amusement within the reaction! Amazing film ❤️
Are you bothers/twins? Just curious :)
“These people are fuckin evil”….yep
The fact you guys had the picture element nailed is awesome!
Your smiles at the end…. :)
Mann dude, y'all are super perceptive. Never noticed the "shitty pipe dream" foreshadowing, or the harmonica note at the big tree that I guess symbolizes Red rediscovering his outside-the-prison identity. Great reaction, good work.
This to me is just about a perfect movie, and I can watch it every year without getting bored of it. Morgan Freeman is the best. The fact it's a Stephen King story is funny to me since it's not a true horror, but it would be a real-life horror if something like that happened to you.
Noticed it first time I watched you guys on BOB. You guys don't miss details at all. Dialed in with dead on predictions lol. Pretty awesome to watch. Be well fellas.
We appreciate you & that’s was something we set out to do when we first started! We feel that is what you all deserve from us. Much love & thank you for your support💙
This is the first time I’ve seen anyone posit that red is saying the same spiel for his parole hearings because he knows he will be rejected and doesn’t want to leave. I always thought he repeated himself despite being rejected, not for the purpose of being rejected. Nice observation!
That’s the first thing that came to mind once Andy told him to get to that tree, his whole mood was different as all
