  • Cobra 75WX-ST died after one year of use. The unit powered on, but would not transmit a signal. Replaced the unit with a Uniden CMX-760 CB radio. So far I am very pleased with the switch. More details and a review will be provided once I get to use the unit more. Thanks for watching.
    Update:
    After a couple of weeks of using the Uniden, I have to report that I love the unit. Going from analog to digital volume and squelch was not an issue at all. There are several levels of squelch and a separate filtering options. Once you play around with it, you can quickly find a setting that works best.
    I liked the scan function much better on the Uniden. When you come out of scan mode, it returns you to the previous station you were on. Didn't use the dual channel monitor feature, but it is there for those who like that. We did some remote camping and the NOAA radio worked well to keep us up to date on the weather.
    On the installation, I ended up installing the head unit on the same location as the previous Cobra head unit. Check out my Cobra installation video for details. If there is interest I can shoot a quick video update to show the installation. I fished the CAT5 cable extension to come out just under the handbrake. This way I can tuck the wire in when not in use and you wouldn't know there is a CB radio in the vehicle... if that matters to you.
    In all, I am very pleased with all of the functions and asthetics of the Uniden radio. If I were to do this all over again, I would definitely pick the Uniden over the Cobra. The Cobra was a good radio when it worked, but the Uniden just has a better feel to it. Anyway, thanks for watching and please leave any comments and question.

      I will try to do a review soon. I've been busy with other things since my Colorado trip, and it has been a scorching summer in Texas. Stay tuned! Thanks.

      @@mustangenthusiast If I had to do everything all over again, I would choose the Uniden over the Cobra. I think they both have equal range, the Cobra has analog volume and squelch (which allow for more fine-tune settings), but the Uniden feels better on the hand, it is much lighter and smaller, and the quick disconnect is a much simpler solution. If your heart is set on the Cobra, I will sell you mine :) LOL. Cobra's customer service was great! I sent my old Cobra to them, and they repaired it and sent it back very quickly. I don't have any personal experience with Uniden's customer service. I hope to never have to.

    So did you settle on a 3' Firestik? How far above the OEM roof rack does it sit? I appreciate the video, I've got a Uniden in my Tacoma which I love but needed something in the FJ that had NOAA stations and didn't take up much room. I thought the all in one Cobra was the only option.

      I think it sticks up about as high as the factory radio antenna. I really like the Uniden over the Cobra. Much lighter and fits the hand better. Thanks!

    I’m new to cb. Did you have to peak and tune this for it to work properly?
    Thankd

      Let me start with saying that I am not a Pro on this topic, so you may want to search other sites as well. Right Channel Radios is a good source to purchase and call for more detailed questions. I know enough to get me in trouble.. Here are some basics. You have to make sure you have a good ground on your antenna, and you will need an SWR meter to tune your antenna. The FireStik antennas have a screw-type tip that you can make longer and shorter. It doesn't take much, but ideally you need low SWR reading in low channels, and high channels. Other than that, there isn't much to dial in. Never use your radio without an antenna, you can burn it up. Focus on having a solid antenna connection with a good short ground wire and the rest will be easy. Good Luck!

    I just got this radio for my Tacoma. What size and type of antenna did you use and where did you mount it?

    • @FJCruiserChannel
      @FJCruiserChannel  4 роки тому

      I have a couple of FireStik antennas. I have had good results with a 4', but you can go longer for greater distance. Whichever size you get, just make sure to tune it (SWR) before you use it. Mine is mounted on the rear door hinge. I'm sure you can google options for Tacoma mounts.

    Do you have a link to your accessory light buttons that go in factory holes? The ones located at the bottom of your consol.

      Was the antenna tuned? A lot of videos state that a mistuned system will burn out your radio.

    • @FJCruiserChannel
      @FJCruiserChannel  5 років тому

      @@curtisyeschke8912 yes, it was tuned before. Recently bought a 3' antenna and was in the process of retuning it when I discovered the dead radio. Before my upper channels were higher in SWR, but not in the red zone. Now I'm below 1.5 on all channels.

      I used it on a two week trip through Colorado and didn't have any issues. I actually think the squelch and filter options work better than the Cobra. In all, I was very impressed with the Uniden.

      I haven't checked it since I got it back from Cobra, but the note on the ticket said that it had a broken wire. Too much of a hassle at the moment to swap out radios to try it out. Maybe one of these weekends I have nothing to do. Thanks for the comment.
