To be fair, listening to a song that captures the feeling of your children growing up would make you cry on most any headphones; it's the emotional punch of Interstellar, but without missing the years.
Abyss researched Linus and found out he has a young daughter, they played the song "cinderella" by steven chapman - it's basically like playing the titanic themesong at a funeral.

It doesn't make other things worse, it's just that the only thing to criticize here is the cost of making no compromises.
You’d think that, but that’s where accuracy vs comfort comes into play. Really well tuned headphones are tiring to listen to, but a cheaper headphones with a more relaxed mix can be just as good or better depending what you are into. I have some solid gear (not on this tier or anything, but maybe $1000 for the whole rig) and it sounds beautiful, but I could throw on a pair of nice Bluetooth headphones that have a warmer mix and enjoy that just as much. I’d kill to try these (I’d probably bawl my eyes out), but I know it wouldn’t ruin that quality. Once you listen to that level for a while your brain just appreciates it instead of being surprised by how good it is. You saw that in the last clip when he put them back on and was truly able to absorb the beauty of what he was hearing.
My uncle owns an audiophile company and I once had to help him move an $85,000 pair of tower speakers... That was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life
Speaker and amp prices are no joke. I was uprading my headset amp and spoke a bit with the guy who runs the shop I go to. He was setting up a pair of speakers for a potential customer so they could try them out. He was selling them fairly cheap. They were still like 35-40k for the pair. His record price for a set of two speakers and an amp was 380k. I could sell my house, car and everything else I own and still not afford it.
That's exactly how it feels to listen to such high-end stuff. Though the equipment they used (except for the headphones themselves) wasn't all that good to begin with.
@@HamboPlayzMC My point was that the stuff they used probably sucked, because expensive signal chain components (and especially R2R) often perform horribly.
A blind hearing test between common headphone models and these would be interesting. It doesn't really work like that. Everything you listen to, you innately pick up all the ways it doesn't sound like real life - stuff like this, there are no flaws to pick up which is why it's such a visceral response to it.

Depending on the record label, for an Internet video like this, song licensing can cost about $25,000 a song. Especially since he’s fully commercializing it and the video will exist for longer than a year. Music licensing is very convoluted.
Here's the catch: After going through a $34k audio set up, how could anyone possibly go back and live with below 1k headphones?

"be it a hundred years, the headband will stay as is because it uses permanent magnets"
permanent magnets lose their magnetism over time. most typically they lose their strength less than 1% over 10 years. but this is for neodymium magnets. so worst case scenario, after 100 years it will lose 10% of its initial strength. Unless they are sintered magnets which you should then not be worried about...
