    Thank you sir, you just saved me from buying a new washing machine for my parents. I moved back home and they have this same GE top loading washing machine that they bought in 11/2022. Well 10 months later in September of 2023 it broke, naturally my parents were angry with me..I tend to have OCD when it comes to washing clothes and I pause to check to make sure the soap is right and the water amount is correct probably way too much. Well one day i paused it and the machine was doing the same exact thing, it would start to wash then stop, start to spin then stop. Well my father wanted me to buy a new one, so i talked him into trying to fix it b/c he had no idea....well the part only costs $12, and it fixed the problem. You saved me $700, I am so grateful i didn't destroy the machine. I kind of miss the machines from the late 90's that lasted 10 years etc.. again thank you

      I have found that the prongs where the lid switch plugs into the control board will sometimes not make good contact with the plug. Be sure your machine is unplugged and has been unplugged for at least 5 minutes then use a pick to gently bend the prongs over to the side a bit so that they will make good contact with the lid switch plug. Thanks for watching!

    Same washer as in your video. In the spin cycle just a few seconds in the spin led will flash and not allow the motor to get to max rpm. The drum shakes very little. I’ve replaced the suspension rods with the same issue. Can run a cycle without any clothes and it will cause the led to flash. I’ve even ran a cycle with the belt off in drain and spin mode and the led will flash. Not sure what else to try. Machine was manufactured in 2022. In test mode in a spin test it runs absolutely fine with it without the belt installed.

    Hi, I have a similar model GE washer that has a similar symptom. I replaced the main board and the run capacitor but didn’t fix it. It fills and will agitate exactly 10 times and shuts off. If you select the drain and spin function, the drain pump works but about 5 seconds after starting to spin, it stops. Do you think a bad motor speed sensor would cause those symptoms? I’m tired of throwing money at parts that don’t fix it. Any wisdom would be appreciated!!

      It's acting like your lid lock/switch isn't working. I have found that sometimes when I remove a lid lock, it fails to contact the points in the receptacle on the control board. I use a pick and bend the metal points over a bit in the receptacle so that they make better contact with the plug. Be sure the unit is not powered up. That's about all I can think of at the moment. If I could diagnose it myself, I could be more confident. Thanks for watching!

    I have a similar problem with my washing machine. I have a hotpoint when I wash the clothes at the end of the whole cycle. The clothes are still wet because the washer does not do the cycle of spinning the clothes, but when I put it in test mode the machine spins well and the clothes are super dry and sometimes when I use the washing machine one day it is dry perfectly well and one day it can work well and another not. I don't know if it's the capacitor or the motor speed sensor. ?

      It could also be your belt. Remove your belt and examine it for an oily residue. Clean the pulleys with a spray type household cleaner. Dry everything well and replace the belt with a new one. An old belt will be spongy and slippery and a newer belt will be dry and a bit stiffer. I see this problem on GE and Hotpoint models a lot. Good luck with your repair and thanks for watching!

    Hello, i stumbled on to your channel which is great by the way how u help people here. Ive lost my job and came about some hard times. I got a washer off a guy that had it in storage for years. im gonna guess its a 2012 kenmore 110 series as far as age. i plug it in and all i get in the lid lock light on and it clicks 3 or for times but never fills or starts washing. The fill light also stays lit up. just never fills or starts washing. my code is f7 e5 which is motor or acutator from what i read. I replaced the capacitor and water intake switch before I learned about the codes so that was wasted money sadly. Ive narrowed it down to either the lid switch (cause it keeps clicking when u turn it on) OR the acuator. didnt know if the acutator freez up from sitting in storage for years? I tried to bypass the lid low switch first to see if that was it, as i hate to waste anymore money....but that didnt do anything except now i have the f5 e1 code which is the lid lock fault code. . .ugh. any help? any test I could do before i waste any more money on this. I really cant afford too honestly. any help would be appreciated. thank you and god bless u for all you do for folks.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  10 місяців тому

      I would change the lid lock first. A constant clicking is a dead giveaway that it has failed. Once that is done clear your codes and try to run a cycle. Then deal with any other issues that come up. Keep plugging away my friend things usually work out when you try to be productive every day. Thanks for watching!

      @@HarperandKnowles does it matter that i checked the ohms on the lid lock switch and it tested good? sorry..just tryin to keep from buying two more parts rather than one. I bypassed the lid lock switch by removing the little metal tab inside the main switch..... to try to narrow it down. I never had the f5 e1 code until i did that....only the f7e5 code (Acuator)

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  10 місяців тому

      There are two parts to that device. A lid switch which tells the logic Chip that the lid is closed and the lid lock that locks it. Trying to bypass a lid lock can burn out your control board. Don’t do it. If the switch is continuously clicking it’s bad.

I even replaced the capacitor and the water valves. still wont work. under test mode it will fills and drain but when it goes into agitate or wash mode it just kindy hums or growls real quietly. doesnt make alot of noise but u can hear something kinda growling. no more codes either with the diag procedure. i just dont get it .

And I usually exchange one if it comes back within 90 days but I don’t advertise that. I just feel like they should last longer than 30 days and it builds good will. Great question!

    Hi. My hotpoint topload washer is not spinning. Clothes are coming out soaking wet. When i ranned a diagnostic test. It says the cold side water valve is bad. Can you give me a pointer on this. Thanks

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  4 місяці тому

      Change that water valve. What is probably happening is the machine isn't filling on the rinse cycle in a timely manner (all rinses are cold water) and the machine will shut down and pump out. Your clothes should just be laying in the bottom of the basket wet without any evidence that the machine tried to spin. Thanks for watching!

    i have a hotpoint HTW240ASK4WS and it fills to large load no matter the setting and then sits on soak. I dont recall it even soaking before - it would fill and run. I was able to get it into diagnostic mode and it has like 6 or more codes. I am starting to think it is possibly the control board. The machine is 5 yrs old and gets used almost every day in an airbnb - any ideas? thx in advance. initially this made a grinding noise towards end of cycle i think. the first fault code is lights 1,2,4,6 and none of the codes show this combination.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  6 місяців тому

      Hey, I saw your email but let's try to fix this here. I assume you have retrieved your service sheet from under the left back corner of your machine. You will need that to do this. Using the sheet go through the steps to put its into diagnostic mode. I always start at 12 o'clock rotate the knob 180 degrees or seven clicks clockwise while holding down the start button then release the button. When the lights start flashing you have entered the diagnostic mode successfully. Now using the light codes on the sheet, test the hot water valve, cold water valve and continue through the sequence of test as listed as you rotate the selector knob to get the right light sequence.. Let's be sure to check the lid switch. You'll check the lid lock during the spin test. If the lid does not lock during the spin test then the switch is good but the lock isn't so change the lid lock. You can remove the striker from the lid and insert it into the lid lock so that you can keep the lid open and observe the spin and agitate test if you want to. Do all the test but know that some of the test listed may not be available on you machine. If one fails you'll know where the problem is. Let me know what you find. Thanks for watching!

      @@HarperandKnowles I see - thank you so much!! I didnt go thru the tests because when i put it in fault code mode it had like 6 or 7 binary light combinations and the first one didnt exist on the fault code sheet. I will try your method tmrw and report back.

      Without being able to diagnose your machine myself all I can do is give you my best guess. When the spin light flashes it usually means there is an out of balance condition. The machine will stop and fill in an attempt to float the clothes and reposition them more evenly to spin correctly. If you have a failed suspension rod then those will have to be replaced to fix the issue. Thanks for watching!

    Hi my ge washer pump keeps on running can you help me please

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  Рік тому

      It could be your washer is in what is called a “suds lock”. This is when the machine detects that there is a flooding condition that may occur but is in error. Unplug the unit for awhile then plug it back in and let it run for at least 20 minutes or until the pump stops on its own. This may or may not work but give it time to complete the sequence. Another thing that can occur is a clog in the pressure sensor hose. Take the console cover off, gently pull the pressure hose off the pressure transducer and blow into the hose to clear any obstructions that may be there. Suds lock will occur when you use the wrong type of detergent. High efficiency machines are designed to use detergents branded with the “HE” symbol. Using cheaper soaps will cause this problem. If these steps don’t fix the problem then you probably have a bad pressure transducer on your control board. Replacing the board will usually fix the machine. Changing the transducer is difficult unless you have some good soldering skills. Good luck with your repair, and let us know your progress. Thanks for watching!

      I understand your concerns about computerized washing machines and their potential longevity. While it's true that electronic components can introduce potential points of failure, modern washing machines are designed to withstand regular use and provide reliable performance. It's important to consider the overall build quality, brand reputation, and maintenance practices when evaluating the lifespan of a washing machine. Ultimately, choosing a machine that meets your needs and aligns with your preferences is key. Thank you for sharing your viewpoint on this matter.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  Рік тому

      I understand your frustration with the recurrent issues. It's strange that the speed sensors keep failing - they're usually quite reliable. If you're sure the replacement parts are good and they're being installed correctly, it could be an issue with the wiring or the control board. Check the wiring for any signs of damage or loose connections. It may be that the control board is getting an erroneous signal or is defective. Also, make sure to use OEM parts if you aren't already. If you can't find the issue, it may indeed be more cost-effective to consider purchasing a new machine. Thanks for watching my video and reaching out for help. Good luck!
