We love Rolly Tasker for supporting you! No one deserves new sails more than you do. Rolly Tasker is on the top of my list for quotes next time I need new sails.
What a super achievement ... you guys must feel so proud of successfully completing a tricky demanding job. Thanks to the rigger for the timely support ... riggers and shipwrights are pure gold ...🙋🏼♂️🙋♀️❤️🇨🇦
"the Darwin Sailing Club they seem pretty chill" is probably the understatement of the year. It's very appropriate that you fitted your Rolly Tasker headsail in Australia.
Big congrats on 100k. Thumbs up Rolly Tasker. I cant believe you sailed the caribbean and entire pacific with a hank on headsail. The next 180° around the globe will feel like a holiday, I'm sure. Thanks
How much easier it would be to have a full service yard do this, but you know that. Your agility, resourcefulness, and knowledge never fail to impress me. I'm confident that you'll be please with the result.
So glad you finally got a furl! Your life just got MUCH easier (and drier). Just make sure you read up on halyard wrap in the manual and if the geometry isn’t absolutely perfect, fix it. It’s easy to do and will save you a world of hurt. Darwin is sure a lot snazzier than it was in 1985 when I was there and there were Crocs swimming around in front of the Sailing Club. Good luck, keep having fun!
Well done Holly and Dan ! #RollyTaskerSails company is a legend ! Honorable mention #Harken in providing the furling drum at a low cost. After all , every dollar saved counts !! @4:35 Dan's words of wisdom applies to any relationship
So glad to see you make the upgrade!! Anything to keep you off the foededeck in rough weather is good. Might suggest replacing the split ring fasteners with cotter pins - they can’t get yanked out.
So glad you have a RF , You'll love it & RT sails are the best , Amazing loft , Workmanship & People . Next you'll be getting uniforms LOL . Fair winds & Following seas ,.
So crazy 🤣 I was literally at the yacht club last month. Oi it son is based in Darwin. If you guys get chance for a little R n R, go to berry Springs for a fresh water swim, and the Humpty doo hotel for a feed. Definitely worth the chill factor before hitting the ocean. Must be so good having a fella with you now for moral support, brain storming and emotional support You guys suit each other well Looking forward to seeing the next adventure 🍺
I’m grateful Holly has capable, good, fun, kind Dan. I’m sure Holly could somehow figure out how to climb a mast while simultaneously pining things on the deck…. But she deserves and has more than earned a good and appropriate partnership!
Cool. Beautiful sail and furler. Good to know about fore stay tightness and the click. What I know about furlers. 1. If in furling doesn't work well or it lags and goes, lags and goes... the halyard is loose. (Seems obvious now...) 2. Watch out for chaffing around the frames at the furler drum. If when the sail is unfurled or furled Is the in furling line is rubbing against the drum/frame..? If so it'll chafe through the line. Especially after days and weeks at sea. If it does this, sometimes you can adjust the line a bit. Some boats have a frictionless ring as a guide near the furler to keep the line centered on the drum. (We had problem #1 because we had to replace the line because of problem #2... and didn't tighten up the halyard when we were done.) There are a lot of far more experienced sailors and riggers than me, but if they haven't spent weeks and weeks on a passage, some of the chaffing issues have never become a problem. (And you've both sailed more then me... of course you know all of this ..)
Excellent work. Sounds like you have the mast set with less rake, so it will be worth checking how she sails; probably less weather helm on a reach and upwind, and perhaps a little less pointing ability upwind, especially in fresh winds and more. Hopefully she is still within what performance you are happy with, even as a cruiser. Check that you are happy with it before going too far. That new foresail will help a lot, and make sailing feel different too. It will be interesting to see how yo find sailing her now. Cheers.
You gonna be soooo happy with the rolling system. I bet you have been out testing it already and you are wondering why you didn't do that years ago. Congrats and cheers to Rolly Tasker for donating.
Impressive climb! Think the rollup head sail will make life easier all around for you folks. Safer maybe. Love the channel your a true sailor for sure. Stay cool.... 😋
It feels so good to get it done, doesn't it? Now you've got a Gucci roller furling system, what next, a crystal chandelier for the salon? You mentioned the time of your videos, but I did not get it in terms of how long ago this one was made. Also, I'd like to see a video that has a big chart on which the path of your entire journey is tracked, with your commentary about the various places you've been and the things that have stuck with you.
Congrats, I always wondered why any sailloft hasn’t sponsert you already. Now you only need Yanmar or other quality Maschine provider to sponsor a new engine. The old 10 hp Buck is very asthmatic, and 2 of 3 cylinder are running much smoother. The Grinde is very dependent on good foresails to get the full speed potential out of her, it will definitely be a hole new boat handling and speed wise. Greetings from Denmark
I noticed that you used a cotter ring in the clevis pin that holds your forestay to your mast head. I would caution you to consider replacing it with a cotter pin instead of a ring. I had a ring work its way loose once while underway (from a cap shroud chainplate). After that happened I stopped using rings in places where I thought they could cause a catastrophy.
Love the wire cutter hack on the cotter pin! I always try to use needle nose pliers, but like you say, not enough grippage. But please put a proper cotter pin at the very top, and not a ring ding!
"For the first time ever, in the history of being myself - " This is such a way to look at your life. If there is anybody on the planet more real than you are, Holly, it would scare me to see them. The Dalai Lama would be impressed.
Hey, it would help us landies if you explained what each part is and what it does. I had to look up forestay to see what it was and what it does. No big deal, it just would have been cool hearing it from you guys! Doesnt have to be long or in-depth just like "Sailing ships have various "stays" and this is my "forestay". It supports the mast." Cool yo!
Awesome! One question I might ask, and I hope I don't appear to be a Jonah here, is whether the greater tension on the forestay might raise a concern about the forestay stem fitting. I was surprised to see that is a pad eye, and not a chainplate. In our family we had an old Paceship boat built in Nova Scotia that had such a fitting, and it ripped out through the deck and we lost the mast. If that area of the deck was engineered with a certain amount of forestay tension in mind, does putting on significantly more tension lessen that margin of safety?
I assume this means you can reduce headsail area from the cockpit now without having to switch out storm jibs and such? That seems like a huge added safety margin when you are caught out in rough seas. I would think it makes trimming the boat for specific conditions much easier, too. Also, what happened to Puss!? I don't think I missed any episodes, but I guess I didn't catch her departure.
Wow that sail looks really solid very nice craftsmanship..I have a clicking noise in my house even when POWER is off should I be worried about pirates 🏴☠️
Charlie just here near Bangor. I don't understand why the friction point on the top of your new roller furling is it supposed to be on the cable rather than on the steel fitting clamping the cable. Just seems to me like you've put the friction on the weaker link . . . ?
Hey Holly, welcome to mediaeval sailing technology, Seriously I have always worried, about you and your sail-plan, so now, I at least, can get two hours straight sleep on a still night, worry free🤔🤔🤔 or did I just,
We love Rolly Tasker for supporting you! No one deserves new sails more than you do. Rolly Tasker is on the top of my list for quotes next time I need new sails.
I was holding my breath for you guys, thank u to the sponsers and well done with the install.💥💥💥
What a super achievement ... you guys must feel so proud of successfully completing a tricky demanding job. Thanks to the rigger for the timely support ... riggers and shipwrights are pure gold ...🙋🏼♂️🙋♀️❤️🇨🇦
I love how you explained in detail the new changes & how it all came together! & l love it! 😍🙌
"the Darwin Sailing Club they seem pretty chill" is probably the understatement of the year. It's very appropriate that you fitted your Rolly Tasker headsail in Australia.
Shout out to the sponsors for supporting The wind hippy!Let's see Battleborn and yanmar?let's go!
Big congrats on 100k. Thumbs up Rolly Tasker. I cant believe you sailed the caribbean and entire pacific with a hank on headsail. The next 180° around the globe will feel like a holiday, I'm sure. Thanks

Gecko is looking sharp these days! All that and having Dan along should make sailing even more enjoyable through the adventures ahead!
Wow! What a beautiful, GREAT quality sail and furling! Well done Holly and #RollyTasker !
Oh man, you’re going to love this!! I remember whan I went from hank on to RF. What a huge difference. That’s really a beautiful sail too!!
This feels like the end of an era! its one of the Wind Hippie quirks that Holly has a hank on head sail!
Thinking to tie a line to the cleves pin to avoid a splash is, was genius. great video thanks !

Your vibe is infectious, love watching your content!
That new furler should be a bit of a game changer for you... and it looks real nice too! lol
My brother Don just installed one on his Mariah 31 at 85 years of age completely by himself not bad!!!
Well done Holly and Dan ! #RollyTaskerSails company is a legend ! Honorable mention #Harken in providing the furling drum at a low cost. After all , every dollar saved counts !!

Nice to see you two looking after each other. There will be highs & lows but when someone is sick that prepared meal or coffee makes a difference.
awww, a couples' counselor!
Confined space councillor.
What a great upgrade!!
It's the small things that make us so happy, Can't wait for the first sail
So glad to see you make the upgrade!! Anything to keep you off the foededeck in rough weather is good. Might suggest replacing the split ring fasteners with cotter pins - they can’t get yanked out.

You did this at anchor with the mast up! 🤩 🙌🏼 👍🏼
I’m grateful Holly has capable, good, fun, kind Dan.

Thank you for another great video and two have a safe voyage.

A cliff-hanger video...thanks for reading instructions many times...dan, u r a big help..nice job..i was thinking dock and cherry picker!!! Hi Hi
this is so cool! i am figuring out how to single handed step the mast on my Hunter 212. Y'all are inspiring.
What a gorgeous sail!!!!

You are clearly not afraid of heights!

Great, the last 15 minutes of the project.
I am amazed that you actually made it work. Unbelievably smart girl.
Nice work there. Nothing seems to be able to even slow you down.
Why am I getting a strong feeling of deja vu while watching this week's episode?
They re-capped in the beginning a little.
Because you do not live on a magic, spinning ball.
The first 22min was uploaded a couple weeks ago
Looking good 🎉 way to go with the furler. Modern upgrade 🎉
That walk up the dock at the end tells me that Mango Madness is setting in, one more week of solid parties and its time to go, Darwin time baby!!!
Great video and tutorial on roller furling
Beautiful sail and job. You are going to love it.
excellent job! excited to see how it performs at high sea!
100K subscribers!! Holly is the best.
Rolly Tasker is super good quality in both product and customer service.
Impressive climb! Think the rollup head sail will make life easier all around for you folks. Safer maybe. Love the channel your a true sailor for sure. Stay cool.... 😋
Enjoy the sail and furler.
How cool ! Excited to see it in action 👍👍
Absolutely amazing how you managed all that! Amazing innovation, well done!
Absolutely brilliant
I'm more into your sailing than the fix it stuff but it's all sweet!😂❤
It feels so good to get it done, doesn't it?

Very nice job... Well done... Darwin is bloody hot isn't it...
I’m so confused. Took me a minute to understand the fopa but I got it. Great job guys. Stay safe and looking forward to some sailing videos.
Team Work at its best😊
Plenty of time for that--solo sailing is the challenge at hand here.

Sweet, love new boat stuff. 💖
Great work.
Loved the content.
Can Do!

John
epic work - you and Dan are a great team!
Yep, replace that ring with a 'split pin' and washer ideally.
A loose halyard can pull that split ring off the mast head and you won't notice until the mast drops.
. one may giggle n giggle and yet be a snickerer . ❤
100K ! - We love your vids 😑
Love your channel! My girlfriend and I watch every episode.
Love the wire cutter hack on the cotter pin! I always try to use needle nose pliers, but like you say, not enough grippage. But please put a proper cotter pin at the very top, and not a ring ding!
So much learning thanks to you guys! 😊😊
Thanks!

You guys are amazing 🎉 well done 😅
Brilllllliant Hippie - thanks for sharing ⛵️ 👍
Hank on single handing? In this day and age? At last Holly enters the third millenium.
Love the start to this vid 😊
100K! Yay!!😊
Good ol' JB Weld.
It's like when Dylan went electric.
Cool 👍. I just noticed your boat is smaller but faster than Sam's "Pickled Herring". Same again with the Alberg 30.
Dan said an adult meccano set, told you he was a mechanic 😅😅
Sweet ..
That seems Amaaaaaaazingly high up there at 10:25 ...
It's called a contraption Amiga!
Deja vu video.

You could work on the ISS and make it look easy. I had vertigo for you, trust me.
at 28:23, you should change the direction of the staple that secures your pin. it could tear the sail or the spinaker.
Great job W H. you're not just a pretty face. ;)
Woot Woot!!!
Awesome! One question I might ask, and I hope I don't appear to be a Jonah here, is whether the greater tension on the forestay might raise a concern about the forestay stem fitting. Did you have any crocs watching your handy work, they are prevalent in Darwin Harbour

Wicked foggy here in Maine.
My God you got up that mast so easy. I wish I was that fit
