Most tubers are all about the hottie with a body (not that Sam doesn’t have one of those, but it is not the draw). I love the reality of self rescue, and DIY repair of an imperfect vessel. That is the reality, most of us face. Very real, cuz boats are like RV’s … stuff breaks all the time. Also dig how the failures are presented in the same light as the successes. More keyboards!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I don't know how many yrs you have been one of my favorite sailing channels. You are so real man. You are living my dream. I know all about broken bolts , pulleys, radios, and everything in-between..I'm 73 years old and still want to get back out sailing. Maybe just island hopping,,,that would make my day again.
I have always only been a day sailor in my life and owning 2 sailboats. Now I am an old man but so impressed with your sailing skills Sam. You are living the life young man. Thank you for these amazing videos.
I agree ! I am also old , i have had over 45 boats in my life " both motor and sailboats but ( just 2 wifes). A few years ago i downzised to a 27 feet double ender, love her. I sailed on her more than 6 months this year. Will continue next year. I am getting 73 this month, and hope to sail many more years and i cannot live without a sail boat !
@noasailing27feet im middle aged and have fooled around with different boats. But my goal is to learn to sail. Hopefully i can run into experienced guys like you someday. Maybe trade out some work for lessons.
I wanted to comment and then I started reading comments but let be be another who comments on what a pleasure it is to watch these. I have been watching since the very beginning ( not to reflect on me ) but I mean to say that I have watched your progress and adventures and I just love the authentic , simple and very relatable videos you make. It’s a dream of mine to own a sailboat one day. Until then, I feel like I am on board with you, out there doing the thing. Thanks man it means a lot.
Wow! That ending was just fantastic! The music! The short video cuts/edits, just made me feel I was there. With the poverty and confusion, and hope. Please interview some Senegalese people. I bet you would do great.
I love your calm temperament, even fixing your rigging at sea didn't seem to bother you.. cheers 🍺 mate, thanks for the entertainment and some good content at sea 🌊 👍
haha, I'm not even american and that's why I clicked on it. (do live somewhere sharing a border with russia though, and sailing away from civilization seems pretty appealing right now)
@@benparker2522 I lived almost half of my life under Russian occupation and one way to survive, was to go outdoors - climbing, hiking, boating on rivers. It seems we may need to reinvent the whole thing again.
I commend sailors like Sam that get out there and get after it, not just sit at anchorage for weeks or months but actually sail. I could never, not on a small boat, I like solid ground and solid sleep.
One of my favorite videos you have done. Must have been a lot of work to edit. I really enjoy that you're in a small boat traveling the world by sea and then sharing your destinations with us on land. Wonderful geography lesson. Also, you actually sail and don't spend all your time cleaning, repairing and making your boat perfect in a slip somewhere. You are not afraid to raise the sails and and hit the sea.
It's eye opening to see that even a seasoned blue water traveler like yourself needs occasional help with scopolamine for sea sickness. I seem to do OK until I go downstairs to pack a spin. This is the best sailing channel on UA-cam.
This video, like his Venice one, gave me a healthy dose of anxiety. I couldn't help contemplate subjects of self-doubt and how beneficial it is as a motivator. Sam amazes me with what is seemingly an ease of confidence. Of course, that is one that is earned with experience and the knowledge that comes with it. Or maybe he's crapping his pants while cooking chicken in such seas. I hope to feel that one day. Sailing is one of those pursuits that is analogous of everything in life. Thanks for the great video, Sam.
Sam you are one great adventurer and sailor. You must have some salt running through your veins at this stage! Enjoy and God protect you and your partner.
It is "ICE" his body temperature and threshold of pain and stress is different than everyone else. The adrenalin rush is geared to thrills, that is why he is always smiling. Smooth voyages are not what he likes!
Great job Sam!... I'm always in awe of your relaxed and calm attitude during all situations, including your rigorous routines of maintenance and super neat organization which keeps your boat reliable and in and Tip Top condition.. Well now that you're anchored, you can kick back and relax for a while.. stay safe❤
Sam, this was a really great video. St Elmo must be watching out for you. It is truly amazing that you manage to survive. Some of those following seas were pretty tall. I'm sure that was a wet cockpit a lot of the time. Again, an excellent video that captured the essence of single handing a small boat. Nice job!!!
Thank you Sam for sharing a slice of Dakar with us….interesting town and coastline. Great video all around. Thanks again, looking forward to the next one. 🤗
Great to see you back in your true element Sam. Back to real sailing and no in Dakar-your type of adventure. Your channel is the best-you are real. Hope you spend some time in Dakar.
Great video in a most beautiful part of the world. The best sailing……heat and the Atlantic rollers. Well done for handling the stressful situation with the mainsail, i could so totally relate to you at that point. Ingenious and daring. Congrats 🎉 on a safe passage.
i'm getting flashbacks from doing the same journey 35 yrs ago on a 43ft sloop .gotta love in scary but what a life experience ill never forget it bon voyage sam
Good show showing what us smaller boats owners go through in disturbed seas. These 40 + foot CATS cry when their coffee spills but you are getting bounced around like a cork in a bathtub. Nice to see you find that sweat spot to stand . You don't need to go for a walk after sailing those under 30 foot boats
DUUUUDE! This was a WICKED SCARY episode, DUDE! DUUUUUUDE! Don’t get yourself into that situation again! And, thank you so much for taping it. Bringing us along with you even or especially in the hard times is much appreciated! It cannot be easy trouble shooting (to put it mildly) and taping at the same time. Thank you for this amazing episode, Sam.
I used to have a bosun's chair that I put extra lines on and a couple of hooks so I could hang it in the hatchway. The ropes allowed it to swing so my ass didn't get so sore switching angels all the time, (like a sit up hammock) and I made a webbing back so I could sit back and chill. It was actually a really comfortable spot. Hope you don't mind I noticed you over steering. When you're going down wind the boat follows a cork screw rolling pattern. From the cockpit it feels like she is going off course but she ain't. Everyone always tries to correct for that. You don't need to, be patient and watch. Every touch of the rudder is a touch of the breaks. Great video, wonderful adventure, go boy!
Hmm, if you fall overboard you would be dragged along side the boat upside down due to the low hitch point. You’d have to really rely on youthful strength to get your self back aboard. Might be too difficult before you run out of breath and strength in those tummy muscles. I wonder if you might slip out of the harness in that position. Loving your adventures Sam, hope you don’t mind this minor critique. My new Doutone wings arrived last night.
I remember when you made your first trip from California to Hawaii. Your budy jumped off the boat and swam back to the dock after helping you depart . I live in Oriental NC. weve met. Look forward to meet again. I have a painting I did for you of a Frigate bird sailing over the surf . Its you !!
This is arguably the best sailing video on UA-cam.
Arguably is right.
Where is the spearfishing and bikini girls?
The 360 cam does a great job of showing the motion of the boat.
No argument from me.

Me too ! About to watch it
A full hour aboard the pickle!!! Thank you Sam!

I have owned three boats and never managed to go anywhere. I am old now, and definitely going anyway. As soon as I get another boat.
What waters do you sail ? @@noasailing27feet
@@noasailing27feet not sure which is more daring, sailing the open ocean on a small raft with a stick to paddle with or having a wife. 😢
Fantastic sail. Well documented.
Many thanks!
Another adventure acomplished on a real "sailing" channel.. Well done Sam. 🙂
Many thanks!
WOW! Sam! A masterpiece. Probably your best video ever.
SAILING VIDEO!
I fell in love with sailing because of Sam Holmes.

Thanks man. Love what you’re doing on that catamaran. Sorry I missed you in the Netherlands. Maybe we’ll cross paths in a harbor one day.
Im glad I missed that episode!
The intrepid Sam Holmes! My favorite UA-cam channel!
I commend sailors like Sam that get out there and get after it, not just sit at anchorage for weeks or months but actually sail. I could never, not on a small boat, I like solid ground and solid sleep.
Great work Sam be safe out there! You are the real deal sailor and great to see you out there enjoying what you love. Thanks for sharing and be safe!
Thanks again Sam. Loved the music as you walked amongst the population in Dakar.
Man I love watching these videos. Makes me love sailing from a distance. You spend 3/4 of the year fixing broke shit and the other 1/4 sailing.
