Today DJI Has launched a brand new drone called the DJI Neo. This is a multi use drone that can be flown in several ways. In its simplest form it is a completely self flying drone that can be used with out a controller, perfect for vloggers and social media content. It can be flown like a traditional drone with the DJI RCN3 controller. The DJI Neo can also be flown like a FPV drone using the DJI Goggles 3, Motion 3 or the DJI FPV 3 Controller. In this review of the DJI Neo I go over all the specs and features and demonstrate some of its capabilities.

It’s the drone I dreamed of when I first started hearing about drones
As someone who is developing mobility issues, I really want this drone so I can experience hiking and short range excursions I wouldn't normally be able to.
Definitely would be a great drone for that
If possible I recommend an E-bike as well, I have an injury that affects my endurance & pain tolerance. With the E bike I’m able to enjoy photography / videography, beats popping pills wasting away on the couch.
@@cuve_ae Thanks for the suggestion. I have a vehicle and I am able to drive it without issues currently. My issue is my Arthritis, Degenerative Disc Disease, and by the end of the month I'll know if I have Osteoporosis on top of that. What sucks is not being able to go hiking like I used to. So something like this would go a long way.

I honestly didn’t expect it to be priced at 209$ without the remote control. This is something I would consider buying for my home made videos.

Great overview Shawn! DJI is going to sell a zillion of these things. Pulling out a larger drone for a quick shot is a total PITA. With NEO, it's a no-brainer. I've wanted this ability since the Spark days and it's finally here! Prediction: There will be a NEO Pro. Maybe it's already on DJI's roadmap or maybe it will happen because the experienced drone crowd will want higher quality video with more control (D-Log M, H.265, higher video bit rate, etc). Regardless, I can't wait to get my hands on this first version.
I agree I can’t wait to see what DJI does with this line. I’ve had a ton of fun with it and I will be using it quite a bit in my content creation

Hey Shawn, wow, that's awesome! Prior to seeing this revue I didn't really have much interest in the neo but having watched your review I now realise how capable this would be. I like to do follow me bike rides and not having to carry a controller would be a game changer. It coped really well through the trees too so forest rides should be ok. It's almost a throwback to the original Mavic air that could be flown by hand gestures. Looking really trim now by the way!
I have a video. I’m uploading tomorrow all about tracking. I’ve been really impressed with the results. And as mentioned, it is so convenient you don’t even have to get off your bike you can just pull it out of a pocket deploy it and the way you go. I think a lot of people appreciate the simplicity and end up capturing more often because you don’t have the cumbersome controller to worry about if you just wanna capture some shots

I thought the same and bought Neo. However, Neo cannot deliver an image quality that Spark did 7 years ago (even that Spark shoot only 1080). So, you may want hold on to buy Neo.
Mine arrives tomorrow! (3 battery kit - i have Goggles 3, Motion Controller 3, and FPV Controller 3 - I could get RC-N3 but it's redundant with Controller 3. I was busy with work this morning, but eventually I ordered from DJI direct, no tax even. Talk about budget, Care Refresh is cheaper than lunch for 2 at Fast Food (something one of us has steered clear of at least, LOL) Think I will use THIS to learn manual FPV instead of the Avata. Less risk when total replacement is $200 vs. $550 for Avata 2

Damn - DJI DID take the sound filter for voice from Hover X1 - I wondered if they would, knowing what the primary market target/niche DJi is after with this release. They absolutely HATE it when competitors try... you know, competing, lol!
They had that technology in their microphones. I think they just moved it over to the fly app. It does need some work, though it does sound a little muffled. I’m hoping they can fine-tune it a little bit.
Now this looks like it’s going to be perfect for what I want from a drone and the price is a game changer for us poor folks 😂👍

i dont think it has obstacle avoidance so wait to see other use it on trails im really unsure if it will work for that use case

amazing stuff appreciate seeing your review and insights - ive had a few drones and still got a cluky big one plus the dobby - each has its own issues but this dji drone really addresses everything i was looking for especially being compact and high quality footage - ive got to treat myself to one of these
This is an amazing drone for solo content creators like me. I have always detained from drones because of all the "take out from backpack, set the remote, fly, land, out everything back" hussle. But this is definitely the one I might want to use. Yet, I think there will be a new version next year with a couple more sensors and at least 60fps features. I amnot sure whether wait for a possible new version or buy and use this one.

Indeed, perfect for those types of scenarios and that’s exactly how I’ll be using it primarily. Of course I’ll probably fly FPV on top of that. I think for $199 there’s a lot of tech there a really good value.

Indeed, I think it’s gonna have a lot of useful applications. I’m working on another video about following and the tracking it can do and I mentioned that a lot of people may end up using it more just for its ease of use instead of messing around with a cumbersome controller when you just wanna grab a couple of quick shots?

Absolutely fantastic little drone. This going to sell like hotcakes its the ease of use and also great for kids to get into drones. DJI are onto a winner with this and as it evolves and improves for the next NEO which im sure they will add collision avoidance into the next version of the NEO as stated in another video there is lots of room in the actual body of the neo to do exactly this. So yes delighted to see the get released as i think so many more people have access now to those special moments and memories with this little gem.

This is perfect for travel.
This thing looks so cool overall! The follow mode is super impressive, as is the extremely wide range of features. But am I the only one who thinks the video quality is quite poor? For a video drone I do feel video quality is an essential thing to talk about and what I'm seeing does not live up to current social media standards. Would love to have seen more about that in the video: how does it come out of the drone and how polishable is it?
Good dronne for people who cant fly well, but wants to have good films for social media.

People edit and fix up footage to look good like dji did. Real world footage is horrible out of this thing, it’s loud, no long fly time, need to buy separate controller to use it, no sdcard, etc… it’s a flop

Additional comment: I am seeing that stop & go motion (or slow & go) when tracking from behind. I hope they can get that smoother, its a challenge for sure to keep the target the same distance away, the drone is frantically calculating based on the size of the tracking target, I assume.

I agree with your assessment. Feel like it's the perfect vlogging drone, and it can capture unique shots. Shouldn't be heavily regulated as it's lighter and has limited range. Also think the price tag is reasonable.
Audio could've been better as it sounded like you were underwater. Think that part of technology will continue to improve and get better. Overall, nice self-flying FPV drone that DJI has released, and expect more of them down the road.
Indeed, I think we’ll see a lot of refinements and improvements over the coming months. I was still using beta firmware and they’ve already added a bunch of new features this morning, but I didn’t have access to yet. DJI is really good for fine-tuning their products.
To be honest I’d actually use this. I normally take my mavic air to job sites with me but it’s too much faffing around to set up and fly when I’d rather just record myself working

I think you are a DJI employee. What you said is completely false and make no sense. The new hoverair pro max records at 8K30 and 4K120 and can fly much faster and has rear facing sensors.
@@Mr.N0.0nelol...I'm not a DJI employee! I was a huge fan of HoverAir, but this drone is far more capable and versatile, particularly as an FPV drone. Who needs 8k video?!

Hey I just bought the avata 2 drone. This one is what I need.
This is the ideal drone I was hoping for when I first bought the first Mavic MINI back in 2019
Wow cool now I'm gonna finally upgrade from my mavic pro 1 lol.
How well does the tracking work if I’m walking in a crowd? Will it get confused with all the people? Or when I’m using it in a group shot, where I have a bunch of people around me?

Not seeing obstical avoidance sensors on this, and that is the weakness of my Mini 3 Pro not having sideways obstical detection so if you want it to follow or do a circle around you it is prone to hitting things when banking side to side. For this purpose I was really wanting the Skydio 2+ but now they have been discontinued for sale this might make a cheaper but lesser replacement.
This also would be a more ideal indoors drone being so small and fully guarded, just a matter of if all the things stripped away from this still make it as capable as the Mini 3/4.
i make a lot of videos with my DJI Mini 4 Pro and Mavic 3 Pro where i'm using ActiveTrack walking through wooded areas (like shown in this video). however, without obstacle avoidance, i would definitely be having lots of crashes. i do not even try to make these videos with my DJI Mini 3 Pro and it has limited obstacle avoidance. how is the Neo following him through a wooded area without constantly crashing?

Hi…I’m from India…going to buy 1st drone and I’m not pro….my use is just need for capturing the moments during vacation and family trips…which one would you suggest between dji mini 3 and dji neo? And one more…how is the video clarity compared between neo and mini 3???…..or shall I buy dji mini 2 se… and one more question does mobile control of dji neo is better option for capturing those family trip moments?
So if you are flying the neo without any controller and send it off to do a programmed flight; how do you get it to land if it is hovering 40 feet above you??
The Spark's fly more charger did all 3 batteries charging at once. Didn't know they dropped that feature.

On my point of view this is an hover x1 with too many option that are working ok but not as good as what DJI can do, i think people intrested in this kind of drone and with higher budget should have a look at the coming hover x1 pro et pro max
I am convinced dji will launch soon a neo pro or 2 much more qualitative (better camera, faster to follow, usable undze water and snow....which now is not possible).
To resume to much option flights with too much limitation but definitively the future of "easy drone"
Indeed, you just can’t beat the price at $199 for what it does. That’s a lot of tech. And the fact that you can connect it to goggles and fly it FPV is a nice little bonus. Does a good job at tweaking products and enhancing them as time goes on so we may see more features and capabilities out of it over the coming months. I agree I think this is gonna be a popular product and definitely will see a really interesting version two down the road.
Hi how do you think it would do from a sailboat and able to catch easier without cutting your fingers due to having pro guards. ? Flying with remote. By the way sailboat max 7 knotts speed
When using autonomous mode, you cannot fly over water. With a controller you can.
Will it connect to the dji goggles v2? And what’s about the fpv remote 2 too did dji say in future they will update it or?
Looks good and fun, but unless you already have the goggles it's virtually the same price as the avata 2, which is a shame. A nice small useful drone though and I may well be tempted.

I think I’ll wait for a 4K 60fps, 30fps is too choppy. Also it needs to be compatible with the goggles 2 and the controller 2 or with the controller that has the built in screen. It definitely needs a micro sd card slot.

Yes, I actually added that when editing just so people knew that the footage came from the neo. When you record video, that’s not there.

It would definitely work for that situation, but the Avata 2 maybe a better choice if your primary passion is FPV it’s a little more powerful

Hello Sean, great review. I have got two questions: 1) If you start in antonomous mode, can you takeover control with mobile phone/N3 or you have to land it first?
2) when in autonomous mode like circle, is there some gesture to stop the manoeuvre when you notice possible collision? Thanks.

This really isn’t that much bigger than an 85mm whoop. Nowhere near as agile of course. 😊

No, everything is just right off the drone. It does need good lighting.
I was getting ready to order one of the new DJI Neo Combos as it appears that it would be the perfect drone to fill the gap between my other drones and action cameras. But I happened to notice prior to ordering that unlike the UK and other countries of the world DJI doesn’t sell the Neo Combos with the controller to those of us who are living in the United States. This would not be a problem since the controller can be acquired separately however that necessitates those of us in the United States paying almost $100 more for DJI Neo Combos than anyone else in the world.
So my questions are very simple! Why does DJI not sell the complete combo package to Americans? And why do you expect Americans to spend a hundred dollars more than the rest of the world to get the same product? I have asked DJI these questions and get no answer.
Does it have anything to do with DJI being a Chinese company that feels they can just take advantage of Americans? I’m just wondering if it’s time that I along with many other folks in the U.S. look at other drones manufactures products. I know that there are some other companies that produce some decent aerial camera platforms that actually appreciate American customers.
Can you have it follow Then go straight to manual controls from the phone??
4K and !080P video quality is upscaled 720P IMHO.
I wouldn’t rely on UA-cam to assess video quality, it’s 4k footage throttled by the app, happens all the time…

Great video as always. Hey, can you use the motion controller without the goggles? Or do they require each other? Would love to use mc3 with the rc2 for certain situations where one hand is tied up. Lookin great btw!🦾🦾

Certainly not the most capable drone, but definitely the most versatile! Will we be able to buy the batteries separately? Ideally I’d get just the drone and 1 extra battery (no controller). The only things that concern me is the wind resistance weighing only 135g, and the lack of a micro SD card slot, but we’ll see what DJI adds in future versions of the Neo
I’m assuming the batteries will be available separately at some point
Hi ! Real question that I have difficulty understanding since I have the Neo, they indicate 18 minutes of maximum autonomy but why even with a 100% charged battery, the screen never indicates more than 8 minutes of autonomy remaining?
I’m not sure if that may be a question you have to direct to DJI

If this would be usable with the RC with display & and obstacle detection in all directions I would immediately switch from mini 4 pro

considering my dpi drone flew into a river last month this is great timing! with no sd card does the footage go to your phone app? when launching from your palm how do you get it to land back in palm without a controller once your finished?
