Notes for folks who want to go faster: - Make the fuselage skinnier and longer. Fit the batteries closely and eliminate excess volume. - Switch to an H-wing rather than an X, increase the wing span and minimize the distance from the motors to the main wing. This gets most of your wing area available for lift. - Use an actual asymmetrical wing section to reduce parasitic drag from lift. - Mount the wing with some fixed angle of attack to shift lift from the body to the wing. Body lift seems free when you just consider parasitic drag. But consider induced drag and suddenly it's not so awesome. You want the wing making lots of lift in cruise and the body closer to neutral. Given how big your fuselage is compared to your wing, you'll always get a lot of fuselage lift. - Polish that surface! At that scale, you want surface deviations that are *tiny*, like under a thousandth of an inch.
At these speeds you get all the body lift you need from 1 degree angle which means there is almost zero induced drag. No need for wings because the body is pretty big dictated by the battery size.
@@Mike-Bell How much does it weigh, about 3 kg? Body is about 15 cm diameter? Hmm. You're right. At 450 km/hr, sea level air density, dynamic pressure is 9600 Pa. Induced drag from 30 N of lift is maybe 1.7 N, which is 210 watts of drag. If you figure your ESC, motors, and props have a combined efficiency of 50%, that's 420 watts from the battery, or 2.5% of your battery power. I still wonder if there's a way to make it skinnier. What batteries do you use?

Wow, that opening in the front was perfect and if it's opened in the back for the Air to pass through unimpeded I can imagine it must run cool even at full throttle, just like a PC pull air in and expel air out for cooler components, probably would go faster as well, just have to create a barrier inside to keep condensation to a minimum on the components especially on cooler days
Yeh the open canopy for filming allows for much better cooling in the drone!
Absolutely unreal. That thing at night looks SOO COOL
Rewarding the beauty of being free as A1 golden thank you for sharing
Congratulations! That’s really impressive.
Should get a contract with the military! Designing something like this and making it the fasted is crazy awesome!
Your work has a huge commercial potential, I wish you good luck.
Congrats. Like that Blender was part of the design team. Keep at it, the sound barrier is not far off.
Blender is brilliant!
thats so awesome dude!
Second time watching this video, I loved everything about it🔥💯🔥💯
awesome video! i would have loved the tuning process, but understand you don't want other ppl to copy your work
Yeh fair enough! But I can’t make the video too long. But if you’d like to see, I followed Chris Rosser’s latest tuning guide step by step 🙌🏼
@@LukeMaximoBell1 i know his newest series, but it is always really interesting how ppl tune their custom drones!
Congratulations on this incredible achievement.
this fast drone could be used in aviation industry to make a visual inspection of a plane in flight , if pilots declare an emergency due to a failure they can't locate (damaged stabilizer , fuel leak , stuck landing gear , breach in the fuselage and more
Amazing, the determination as well to keep on going, while others may have folded.
Someone get this boytjie a wind tunnel! Nice father son collab.
I see a wind tunnel project coming 😅
It's only an engineer that would extinguish flames on his project with his bare hands.
