*Foscam was bought out by Amcrest. It's still the security camera I use every day in my house.
720p Version (less expensive): amzn.to/2ty3qBd
There's also a newer easier version that you can find here: amzn.to/22e2rhh It's by Amcrest which I believe is the same company as Foscam.
UPDATE: 5.16.2016 - I still use this camera EVERY day at least 8 hours a day and I leave it on day/night when I leave for vacation and it's still in perfect working condition. I can't say enough good things about this camera. The setup was tough, there's really no way around a long set up process but it's well worth it. Foscam offers a screen share that is worth every penny OR find a friend or family member to do it for you =).
If you do have any questions, I'll do my best to help out. Just leave questions in the comment section.
Foscam makes really good camera's and they've come a long way over the past couple of years so pay attention to the dates of the reviews. I would rate this IP camera as excellent, just make sure you set it up correctly (Foscam can do it for you) and you'll have a really feature-rich security camera that you can view anytime on your phone or computer while you're away!

I just ordered one based on your review! Thanks for the upload.
Thanks! You've convinced me. I've got to get one now!
I have two Foscams at home and I was so happy with them before they stopped working. The picture qualify was crystal, both day and night vision and way better than the free camera ATD gives away. After about six months one stopped working and a couple of weeks later the second camera stopped.
I'm lost.
"Samuel" Thank you. The Camera comes with a really good mount. I like to mount mine upside down because you can get better coverage (especially below the camera) In the camera settings you can "Mirror/flip" the image so all the controls work and the video is right side up.
Great review, Thank you!
great review. Just what I needed.
Thanks for the video. Picture quality of the camera looks nice. I was undecided between the FI8910W (cheaper) and FI9821W but after viewing several videos, including yours, I went with the FI9821W v2.
thanks for the video! I have a Foscam too and it's great! it works perfectly with my Xeoma software
Great review! What type of wall mount is that above the door, where can I get one?
What mount did you use above the door? Excellent review
Great video!
Info about the software :
The " presets " doesn't store the brightness or contrast " and they don't keep the Zoom position too ( on a MAC by web )
Hello, is it possible to view recorded videos from the SD card? consulting by internet
Hi, i have the same cam, but the image is blur 4 mts far, i tried to turn front roll camera but not better. tried factory reset, update, but nothing. if 1mts from camera, is good, do you know about?thanks
Hello, can the video record continuously? and 2nd, when it records, does it store the video into the sd chip AND upload it to the cloud simultaneously?
Hi, do you know if I can record in a External HD linked to my Airport Extreme? Thanks
Hey i bought 2 and they both have the issue where they reboot continuously and keep moving through the startup cycle, have you ever had this with any of yours?
Great video - thanks for sharing!
Curious if you've ever set up the camera to record out of a window at night?
I'd love to capture footage out of a front window but am not sure if there'd be an IR glare/reflection off of the glass...
Thank you. Yes, I've tried that and there will be a glare. You could disable the IR lights and place a IR light outside, something like this one: amzn.to/1GIXJPA
Hope that helps.
Is it possible to set the camera to send pictures in email AND ftp-server - or do you need to choose only one option only?
@eric summer I’m looking for a camera that can record for 8hours wireless while I’m at work, will I need to find a SD card with enough memory to do this or is it backed up online somehow? If it’s backed up online do I have to pay for the online memory? Thanks
Erik, Where is the SD card you mentioned?
hi, i'm looking for a camera like this, with good resolution and the ability to log to SD -- do they make an outdoor model? or do you think this would work outdoors?
Does this camera have to have a PC on all the time? Any cloud service?
Hi (EF Page) Your PC does not have to be on all the time. The IP Camera is like a mini computer that will record locally and email you photos whenever it detects movement. Foscam does have a Cloud service! Here's a link: foscam.us/foscam-cloud
I don't use their cloud service since the photos are instantly sent to my phone and if I need to review the footage I just pull it from the SD card. Hope that helps.
+Erik Summer hi, ok thanks. I'm sure if i use one if the live streaming sites then that shouldn't be a problem. My main concern is if the camera is locked to the software only. Meaning you can only view it on their client and nothing else. I bought a camera recently and i'm not able to share the live stream because that camera is locked to their sofware, so there's no way i can broadcast an event.
The fact that this camera allows no remote access to any of the video files stored on the SD card is kind of a glaring omission. You have to do one of two things if you want those captured videos: 1) upload to a remote FTP server, or 2) physically remove the SD card from the camera. It's amazing to me that Foscam still hasn't sorted this out.
DDNS = ability to track changing dynamic IP addresses, which is critical to accessing the camera if you lack a static IP (which most connections lack).
+YST5700
You can make the camera have a static address.
Yes Sure Yes, but that doesn't matter if the public IP address remains dynamic, which is what a remote camera feed is viewed on (not the camera's internal address).
I'm using my Foscam with Xeoma
It's really satisfying
This camera has autorun?
@Erik The lens has a ring with teeth on it which suggests a manual adjustment. What is that for? Is it focus? Is it really for manual adjustment?
It is a manual focus. It helps to get a nice sharp image, especially if your room is really big or really small. It's a little hard to turn but you'll notice a difference in image quality if you have your live view pulled up when turning it.
I have two of these. The image quality is very good. But you'll need some knowledge of networking to get port forwarding set up so that you can view the cameras remotely. I've yet to get their client software to display an image (the software that can show multiple cameras in panes), but viewing from a browser or dedicated phone/tablet app works great.
Hi, how do you capture videos beside sd card.can i hook it up to a dnr such as DLink video recorder DNR-322L
+Erdem Demirkan I'm not sure if the DLink would be compatible with a Foscam. Foscam makes their own network video recorders like the FN3004H - amzn.to/1Yus1No I like the idea of recording on my own network but I'm curious if the Cloud service would be worth the cost of not having to hassle with the extra hardware.
Yeap
NVR but still will be in my home .
sending emails with pictures is not the same like video clip.
You can get more details from video clips.
There must be some way with ip forwarding or something similar to this.
Thank you for your fast response :)
+roko monev There's an option for FTP, but the setup seems pretty advanced.
+Erik Summer
Thanks Erik
hi wonder if you can help me, would this camera work for live streaming to an audience rather then for home sercurity?
Thanks
+sundancerhythm You could, but I'm not sure how much bandwidth or logins at one time it could handle. I've only tested it with two people logged in at one time. You might want to look more into a "dns" service that offers multiple logins to a live camera, try dyn.com/dns/ Try telling them what you want to do and they should help.
how does the camera perform at night when placed behind a pane of glass, is the image still clear or not, hope anyone can help me with the question thank you.
+Jay Ant You'll get glare from the IR lights. The only thing I could recommend is to disable the IR lights (easy to do in the software) and put a motion light outside. Or if you need a live feed at night, I've seen some people put IR bulbs outside. To you it would look dark but the camera would be able to see.
is there anyway to upload directly to the cloud, e.g., dropbox, google drive?
if someone breaks into your house, camera is useless if they steal the sd card along with it.
Yes and No. It will start snapping pictures and emailing you them immediately so even if they destroyed the camera, you're still going to have the pictures sent to your email. It takes about 2-3 seconds for the camera to send a set of 3 pictures and it will keep snapping away as long as it has power and an internet connection! You can adjust the sensitivity and "Triggered Interval" depending on how many pictures you want emailed to you in a certain amount of time.
Video on the other hand is only stored on the SD card. I would think 99.9% of people wouldn't notice the small SD card in the back of the camera if they are breaking in! Even if they stomp on the camera and break it, the odds are really good that the SD card will survive!
Hope this helps!!
Erik where did you get the bracket for the Foscam FI9821P web cam?
+John Magee It comes with the bracket shown in the video.
Hi, If i would like to use this camera as baby monitor, this camera is easy to view over cellphone ( Smartphones ) or no ?
***** I use mine on my cell phone all the time and love it. I use the free "Foscam Viewer" app. Foscam also came out with a model that has an optical zoom as well: amzn.to/1F7adyT
Is your browser required to be open the entire time in order to record to segments to a PC (wirelessly)?
Also, I understand that this specific model has P2P function but will it AUTO port forwarding for me as well so that I can view it over both 4g and wifi?
Thanks for sharing btw
I've never recorded through my browser. It will take snap shots and email them when it senses movement and will record segments locally to the SD card that's plugged in to the camera. You can then view those segments whenever you like.
I'm not 100% sure on your second question, but I view my camera from my cell phone both on 4g AND wifi. It works great with both! If you don't have 4g service or your home internet is 5mbs or less, don't expect smooth live video.
Sorry. From what I understand with this model all you have to do is scan the QR code at the bottom of the device, register and i should receive live feed over 4g right away WITHOUT manually configuring router's port fowarding right?
I currently have a Foscam FI8918W and in order to control/view it on my phone over 4g, I have to go manually open port.
danny ho
The FI9821P is the Plug and Play model where you scan the QR code and there's no need to configure port forwarding.
Burton Tsang thanks !
Hi, everyone in our household uses tablets/smartphones, will this camera work without a desktop PC?
This Foscam does not require any computer to run, only an internet connection (wireless or through Ethernet). But it's helps to set everything up on a computer!
Is it just me or it really just doesn't record audio? It doesn't record audio on alarms and on schedule.
What is the difference between the Foscam FI9821W V2 and the Foscam FI9821P
+Mark Rivera The only difference is the FI9821P is "Plug & Play" which skips a couple steps in the set up process when connecting to your router. I looked over all the features and it looks like they're identical. I updated the link in the description since the FI9821P is cheaper. Thanks for bringing that up.

Ok, thanks.
is there a tutorial for this camera? i want to use it outside of home wifi, and is it secure?
This one is not made for use outside use. It is secure, but you have to change the default username and password! I've been using Foscam for years with no problems. If you want a "pan tilt" Foscam for outside I'd go with this one: amzn.to/146718x Are you looking for a tutorial on setting up the camera?
Erik Summer yeah i am looking for the tutorial to setup this camera so that i can accesses it through my mobile phone
I use "Foscam Viewer". Tons of options and it's all free. You enter in the same information that you use to log into the camera form a browser. Here's the app: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ipc.newipc&hl=en
I'll look for a good tutorial.
Will it work for outdoors and wet weather?
Not this one. If you want a camera for outside then I'd go with a bullet camera like this one: amzn.to/293B87Z There's a wireless and POE where you'd have to connect a Ethernet cable.
Ty
Can the software work with mac computers?
The software will run from the camera. You log in through your browser so you shouldn't have any problems. I use Chrome and IE to view my cam. Never tested it on Safari.
lol - You skipped literally the only section I needed to see, which is Record / Storage Location.
Otherwise, good video.
What do you want to know about it? I have a 32GB SD card in mine. It records video and audio locally so you can watch clips later.
Erik Summer I appreciate you responding. I just thought it was comical at the time.
I was interested in the options for network storage, if any. Wanted to see what configuration for a NAS would look like I ended up picking up a cheap dlink on amazon to mess around with.
how to activate the DDNS Status?
Are you asking where to find the DDNS? It's on the bottom of the camera. With Foscam it's a free service, however you can pay for DDNS if you like. Not sure why you'd want to since Foscam's DDNS has been working great for me for years.
I just want to monitor my kid in the next room with closed doors. Would this be great just for that?
Foscam makes a baby monitor that comes with a monitor that you carry around the house. Here's a link: amzn.to/1zxaGXN
If it's just for the next room, this might be a better fit for you.
Regarding those cams I could not find anything online about recording , not enough clearly( no details) like this info is hidden on purpose.
if you can
recording from distance directly to your laptop’s hard drive , not to sd card
and of course for free. Please fill me in if there is any option.
Because recording to DVR or sm card is not good option .
First job to the burglar is to break all security equipment , hard drives or whatever is there will be destroyed
Also I want to buy one 30 fps with a good audio and mic, as well good night vision
Which one would you recommend me
It does not matter to me foscam or other brand
Thanks in advance
+roko monev I have mine set up to email me multiple pictures of any movement inside my home, so if they did destroy the camera, I'd still have a lot of photos saved online. Getting 30 fps will depend a lot on your internet speed, I'm guessing you'd need at least a 20mb down and 8mb up speed. A great 1080p 30fps camera is this one amzn.to/1IGnNZY As far as recorded video there's an option but I haven't tested it. You can get a network video recorder that will record video separately from the camera. Here's a link: amzn.to/1lZOvb8
Kann die foscam nicht oeffnen
I bought FI9831W. Had lots of issues. Plugins (browser) crash, have to wait for the web service in camera to respond for a long time to view the app to control it, and images weren't that solid in outdoor mode. After being fed up with so many issues returned the camera. Its been two months since return and the sluggish support process haven't even refunded me. They keep on mis-communicating and getting lagged in their dealings with customers. I would not ever look at FOSCAM again. Poor quality product, poor support. No good. :(
WARNING !
FOSCAM Customer service is horrible.
And when you call the help number expect to be on hold for over an hour.
Make sure your battery is fully charged and have a speaker option.
Their email support is worse.
+Yes Sure They've been pretty helpful with me, although that was over a year ago so maybe they've gotten worse. What problem are you having?

MAKING AN ORDER WITH FOSCAM !!
December1 /2015
HELLO SALES DEPARTMENT:
I WANT A FREE ACTIVATION / REGISTRATION / SERIAL NUMBER FOR THE BLUE
IRIS SOFTWARE ---------- HERE IS WHY………….
WHY
DOESN'T ANYONE IN SALES EVER REPLY TO AN EMAIL?
IAM GOING TO FILL YOUR INBOX OVER AND OVER UNTIL SOMEBODY REPLIES
Dear Abdurahman (Adam) Ravat, CEO Foscam
November 10 / 2015 I made a 5 camera order with Foscam Canada.
I waited a few days and got no communications from the company.
I got fed up on November 25 and tried to contact the company.
LiveChat: I tried their Live Chat on their web sites. (Canadian and American)
The live chats kept going dead and I got another person who said wait and
they will check.
Then of course the Live Chat went dead and I got another person and
another over and over to no avail.
Numerous Live Chat people and not one of them got back to me about the status
of my 15 day old order.
(From their shipping depot in Toronto to my city in British Columbia,
Canada is usually 3 days for shipments of any kind.)
Phone Calls: Foscam has numerous web sites and numerous contact phone numbers.
I tried at least 6 different phone numbers in Canada and the USA.
I could not get anyone who could help and answer. One guy said he was
working for some other company name. [Why was his company phone
number on the Foscam website I will never know] He said he would
transfer me. The line made an odd sound and went dead. Another wasted
phone call!
I wasted over two hours phoning various so called contact phone numbers
and never got my original questions answered “where is my order?”
When was it shipped? Was it shipped? What company or carrier is
delivering the order?
Next: Emails !I wrote emails 3 days ago to their sales dept. I wrote 2 days ago. I
wrote yesterday.
I sent 15 emails today November 25 / 2015 to every email address I
could find for Foscam sales and support help.
Not one reply !!
I did get a stupid reply like this 3 times “Your request (26514) has
been updated. To add additional comments, reply to this email.”
What use or information is that? It seems to be a computer generated
canned message.
Somehow I got a copy of this:
Hi Team,
Would you pls help this customer?

Customer Beware
I have paid for my order by credit card.
Today I contacted the credit card company who have placed a “hold” on
the payment to Foscam today.
I really wonder if and when the cameras ever get here - what will
happen if one of the cameras goes defective during the warranty
period? Good luck to me? Good luck getting anyone in their service
department? Good luck getting the camera replaced or repaired. Is
their repair department as useless and unreachable as the sales
support?
They better give me an extra year of warranty.
Why do they have 2 different Canadian web sites?
foscam.ca/
and foscamcanada.com/web/
which adds to the confusion.
November 26 - I was lucky enough to get someone on LiveChat. They could not
help me.
They said they will get a supervisor to read the chat and phone me in less
than 15 minutes.
26 minutes later a man called - said he understood the problem- but he
could do nothing for me because he is a technician not working in
sales.
He told me he would call me today November 27 and update me. It is 16:15
in the afternoon and guess what? Yep! No phone call.
So I still have no idea about my order status.
Another day went by. I tried the LiveChat and that was hopeless. It keeps
cycling through 'people' but nobody actually responds. More than 10
tries with that I gave up.
November 29 I get an email from FO SCAM.
“your FO SCAM order has shipped” Well…….let me read it.
Greetings,
Thank you for your order from Foscam CA. Fulfillment by Amazon has shipped

Foscam FI8910W Pan and Tilt IP/Network Camera with Two-Way Aud...
SKU:Fi8910w-Black
One camera! Not Five…. Just one.
So no information as to when the other 4 will arrive.
Or maybe the factory only makes one camera per day.
FO SCAM and their web site give you the impression that it is a big
company.
But if they can only come up with one camera in 3 weeks I am not
convinced.
The frustrations continue.
My time has a value. I have invested over 15 hours into this futile
quest. @ conservative $25 per hour =$375
Soon they will owe me the value of the order.
Or at least throw one more camera in one of the expected 5 boxes [no
charge]
And give me an activation number for the Blue Iris Software [no charge]
Five boxes since it seems they only make one camera per week is my guess!
November 29 after 4 reloads of the LiveChat I got someone who could not help
me but wrote that I will get a callback tomorrow.
I will not hold my breath for that one.
November 30 John from Foscam called me at 11:35 am. john@foscam.us
I gave him a quick summary and I offered to send him my continued
journal of events about the outstanding order.
As of Dec 1 / 2015 no reply from John;
As of November 30 at 11:40 am the single camera shipment has not
arrived.
Update.....
November 30 / 2015 One camera arrived at 16:00 hrs.
Nothing was in the box about the missing 4 cameras.
Your Order # xxxxxxxxxx (placed on November 10, 2015)
Sincerely.
Mr.XXXXXXXXX
Dec.1 / 2015 update. Got someone on LiveChat 11 am.
Tracking numbers given to me today December 1 / 2015
I had to ask tracking numbers for what delivery company; It
was not offered, I had to ask.
Now today LiveChat tells me the cameras are being shipped in 5 separate
boxes for some dumb reason.
This means I will have to be home for 5 separate deliveries. But I was not
given delivery dates for the missing 4 cameras.
Email to shipping@foscam.us now. Dec. 1 / 2015 11:30 am
And for all my troubles this is the first time someone has given me a
contact method for FO SCAM shipping.
This company is the absolute worst customer service I have come across for
many years.
And by the way. I have wireless cameras from 2 other companies.
I tried for 2 hours last night to get my one camera to run wireless and
it will not find my wireless network.
It will only work with the ethernet cable.
Sure there is a help number to call but I should not need to.
It should not be that difficult for someone with 25 years of computer
experience.
And my guess 3 days ago was right. They do only make one camera per day
and ship each each of them one by one.
GGGGGGGGGgggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:(
Dec1 / 2015 13:00 hrs I called 713 893 7866 - waited a while and got
Vincent.
He asked why I called. I told him the story is too long he should read
it while we are on the phone. I mailed by journal of events to
vincent.gibson@foscam.us.
While I was waiting on the phone it went dead!
So much for customer service. I sent him an email with my phone number
but 15 minutes have passed and no call.
December 1 / 2015
I signed into my Amazon account today while I am waiting for Vincent;
Because I did not order my cameras through Amazon there is NO WAY to use
those tracking numbers that were given to me !
FOSCAM at its best.
All of this will be published on UA-cam for the world to read.
Dec 1 /2015 phoned 713 893 7866 13:05 on hold for 15 minutes so far….
ashley.richardson@foscam.us
I need the full name and direct number of supervisor at shipping or
corporate offices of FO SCAM
Dec 1 /2015 phoned 713 893 7866 13:20 on hold for 15 minutes so far
again.
I got another guy who said he will get me a supervisor name and number
and he is also going to contact shipping.
December 8
Now that I have all 5 cameras. Setting them up - configuring -
setting up email notifications - port forwarding - access router
settings etc….on and on
Try 6 different smart phone apps to find one that supports multiple
cameras and pan and tilt, audio etc.
Another 15 hours for all of that.
Dec 11 / 2015 my call to the help number:
You are number 23 in line. Expected wait time is72 minutes.
100 minutes later I got a real person.
Foscam cameras are Extremely difficult cameras to get working
properly. And numerous calls to the helpline which is answered in
India so you have to listen twice as hard to overcome their voice
accent.
What a company. How do they stay in business? And the company
executives are impossible to contact.
+Yes Sure Ask them to "remote" into your computer, basically they'll set everything up for you. They didn't charge me for this. Did you try disconnecting your wifi on your phone before connecting to your camera? Also, login to the camera and enter in your wireless password?
