You should sent this video to foscam so they can learn form this potential flaw. Great follow up vid. Glad you have resolved this problem to
Mesmo após 9 anos seu vídeo ainda continua ajudando as pessoas.
São Paulo, Brasil.
I unplugged the J22 connector to the speaker on my unit tonight - - worked great! Pan/Tilt, microphone all still work. Didn't plan on using the speaker anyhow, and no more clicking. Another solution might be to make the speaker wires a "twisted pair" by turning the J22 connector a few times before reseating it, which should help reduce noise from the wifi. Anyways, thanks for the inspiration to try it!
Most of my viewers who purchased the FI9821W did not encounter the same crackling issue as I. Personally, I would still use the FI8910W as a baby monitor because it's cost effective. I'll get the FI9821W for something like monitoring a room or walkway.
I don't own an android, yet, but for iPhone I use LiveCams Pro.
My viewers who own this Foscam told me their FI9821W didn't exhibit this issue. And Foscam told me this issue doesn't affect every unit. I toss this up as me getting the short straw. At the end, Foscam worked with me to resolve the issue.
Yeah, I didn't realize at first it was a fixed focus lens, but then tried spinning the ring...didn't help. Finally talked to Foscam tech support and they helped me out. I was on the right track but was spinning it the wrong way. Back up and running!
i'm hesitant to try fix-it stuff on youtube vids but the noise i was getting on my 8910W rendered it useless as far as sound. i tried what you did with the wires and its perfect now. thanks for doing this video.
Glad it worked out!
Thanks! Informative set of reviews!
Thanks for the reply AwkwardHamster I may buy one now
The crackling issue happens with only a few units. My viewers told me theirs were fine. I still use my FI8918W every day. It's cost effective and works great.
The FI8918W and FI9821W are vastly different. Some of the key differences are that the FI9821W uses h.264 compression instead of mpeg, it has a 1MP CMOS sensor instead of 0.3, it has built in SDCard for storage, and a IR Cut filter for better colors.
I'll make a comparison video after my travels.
Great Video, will be getting a foscam for the baby monitor
I will still recommend the FI8910W as the baby camera. It's just so affordable and widely supported. I've been giving it to friends who are expecting.
If you were to use it as a security camera, then I would suggest the FI9821W.
Hope that helps.
thanks for the very useful videos on the Foscam's , when you used the 9db aerial it reduced the crackling/hiss from the speaker. then you moved the wires reducing the speaker noise but did not on the video use the 9db aerial as well just the normal one. does using both methods reduce the speaker noise even more ?
Very helpful, brilliant video, thanks a lot!
Thank you!! I'm ordering it tonight :)
Have you had any issues with the auto focus on this model? Got two, one works great, the other is fixed focus to about an inch. Can't find anything in the manuals or in the UI on how to adjust / reset.
Excellent, thanks for the advice. One other quick question, do you strictly use LiveCams Pro for all baby monitoring, or do you have an audio only baby monitor that you used at night?
glad you found this video useful
Yea, I could have moved the wire position back to validate the fix. But I really didn't want to poke around in there any more than I have to because I have to send that Foscam back. Well, I sent it back today.
Hello AwkwardHamster,
And thank you for the video on how to take care of the crackle noise, I did just like you showed, and it is MUCH better, Thanks again
You're very welcome.
Great videos!!! :-) I've been searching high and low for a baby video monitor for my daughter's room. I had to return the Motorola Blink 1 because it had poor low light performance which is a key feature for us. Her room gets a little light in the afternoon which makes the auto night vision loose any detail. You've convinced me to get a Foscam. With the fixes that you've showed would you suggest the FI9821 or the FI8910?
Great work on the vids and thanks for your help!
another thing you might try since the red/black pair have a disconnect on the board is to unplug connector and twist the pair several times , this will also reduce EMI.
Hi! I am thinking o getting this for my small fashion boutique, I have a wireless speaker stereo at the store, would this interfere with the music, do you think? I am not worried about the crackling so much since there is now a fix and the music would probably cover it up, but I am very concerned about the music being disrupted, since it is key to our atmosphere..
Perfect review
In other videos, you mentioned that you got a replacement for this model.
Did it ever fix the crackling noise or you still need to use the antenna?
Thanks for the info.
did you verify that wrapping the audio wire did not restrict or interfer in any way with the full motion of cameras P&T ? next time try some clip on ferrite as near to the board as you can get . good video thanks for taking the time . i do wish they would use shielded audio wire .
The only 2 Foscam I have used that has SD Card are FI9820W and FI9821W. But they cost around $150. Those have brigher LED light than the FI8918W. I still use the FI8918W on one of my cribs.
None of these models LED lights light up a room. You can see all of them in the dark but they're not too bright.
I like the FI8910W the most because it's cost effective. It doesn't have a sdcard slot.
All models can work on iPhone if you can create port forwarding rules on your router.
Thanks for the quick answer but I meant the difference between the FI9818W and FI9821W.
so now would you recommend this camera for a security cam in a low noise area?
I had autofocus issues with one of my FI8918W. Since it was just used to watch the crib, I manually adjusted the focus using the focus ring and kept on using it. I did not have autofocus issues with the FI9821W.
With this fix, would you recommend this as a baby monitor? Or should I stick with the 8910 and it's lower quality video (although extremely stable from what you've said)? Also, what program do you recommend most for both iPhone and Android for baby monitoring? Especially at night, I want to make sure the screen is off but sound still comes through.
Hi , I do have the crackling noise and I just bought it 2 days ago. Thats not my issue I could deal with that , but I am not even able to speak to my mother on it at all , when I try to I get a loud interference sound. The audio coming from her end is clear just delayed. But sadly I cannot communicate with her. Was wondering could that have something to do with the wires ? Or has their always been communication issues using two way communication?
I had to play around with the wiring one of my Foscam outdoor (18904) due to poor wifi reception. Unfortunately, this is what you have to deal with when purchasing cheap (relative to the type of equipment) items made in China. They obviously don't have the qual control procedures in place unless strictly supervised by a top branded item, such as an iPhone, for example. Factor this in when making this type of purchase, otherwise stick with a well branded, well reviewed, and better made product.
Hi AwkwardHamster,
I want to buy a Foscam FI9818W or FI9821W. Can you tell me difference between the FI9818W and Fi9821W? Have you tested the FI9818W?
The FI9821 V2 is now in stock with some improvements. Fix for Crackling Static Noise?
Have you tried the foscam 9821 v2? do you know if this is an issue with that model?
It can be used as a baby monitor but I personally would use this model for monitoring the playroom instead. For my friends, I give them the FI8910W for the crib.
Aluminum is a conductor. If I don't do it right, I might short something. But I see where you're heading. I guess I could have protected the cable with electrical tape, maybe even masking tape.
My mistake. I didn't know they came out with the FI9818W. I haven't tried that model.
Hello, When you contacted Foscam did they charge you for the new antenna? Thank you for all of your videos on this as well. Very informative!! :-)
Hi. Foscam replaced this unit. My viewers told me their FI9821W did not have this issue. I think I drew the short straw.
Thank you, I have the same issue on a Rollei Cam, now fixed by changing the position of the wires.
cool
Foscam's selection and trade off of using poorly insulated wires, or wires that are designed to meet the bare minimum of power loads. I had an issue with one of my outdoor foscams and replaced multiple wires of a larger gauge with thicker insulation. Problems solved! Might look to move to HikVision for better quality.
Thanks for the information great reviews, I was going to buy one of these but for £100:00 I don`t think the product is fit for purpose, why do customers have to inform the manufacturer of these defects? don`t they test them before selling them?
Do any of the Foscam models have the ability to notify you by alerts to smart phone in an event of motion detection?
I would just go to Radio Shack and buy a rf choke that you wrap around the audio cable. It should get rid of the noise completely. Foscam should have twisted the cable and put the choke on during manufacturing.
$3 part number 273-069
I haven't tested their outdoor models. I'm sure if I were to ask my viewer to vote on my next Foscam purchase, they'll pick outdoors. Thanks for sharing though.
Is that a standard wifi antenna or is the thread size proprietary to Foscam? I saw that antenna they sent you on their website. I ordered two cameras similar to this one (model number FI9821P V2) and if the wifi signal isn't good, I have a couple old wifi card antennas that are about as long as the 9 dbi one they sent you. Will those fit?
The small one is standard Foscam size. I don't know if the connector for antennas are standard.
Thank you, very interesting video. I can now fix my crackling noise
Cool
I didn't try using an external speaker because the locations I've placed the Foscams don't really have extra space for a speaker.
Don't even get me started on the iPhone. With the iPhone 3G, I had it exchanged 5 times. Even with all that hassle, I appreciated Apple didn't just brush me off.
As for the Foscam crackling issue, my viewers who purchased it said they don't experience it. So it was just my bad luck.
This could be a power supply issue, when the Wireless chipset has to work harder with the lower gain antenna you get more micro-fluctuations or noise in the voltage from the power supply. changing to a different brand 'wall wart' or one that has a higher amp rating may help.
It may also be related to the small gauge wire they are using for the wifi, you could replace that with a different wire, RP-SMA to u.FL 'pigtail' is usually what they are called.
Cool vid.
+FloridaBlk1973
Thank you.
No, I think that has always been an issue with the sound, as it has been my own experience with two foscam indoor cams, and conversations with others on various forums. Still, a quality control issue as you demonstated by simply jockying the wires around inside the unit
What about using an external speaker (connected to the audio-in jack port)?
I did send this to Foscam and they said they'll pass it to their manufacture.
Thanks for watching.
thanks
I haven't tried v2, also I don't think this issue is widespread.
I am sitting at my imac and i am trying to say something but i can't hear anything coming from the camera - how do i resolve this problem? I want to comunicate with the person i am watching...
Were you still under warranty? Or did they just replace it?
I had it less than a year. They just replaced it.
I don't have experience with wireless speakers other than bluetooth. I doubt you would have purchased wireless speakers that transmit on 2.4 Ghz, which is what Wifi and many other home electronics use. Basically, I don't think it would interfere.
I believe they all have the function to send e-mail alerts when it detects motion. I make a video demonstrating this. You can find it in my Foscam playlist.
Thanks for watching.
Foscam should pay you as a consultant. I can't believe they are soo behind.
The replacement I received doesn't have this crackling issue. Thanks for watching.
I haven't tried that. But since not many units encounter this, I wouldn't go that far.
This video is now almost a year old. Did this get fixed. I just bought this version and now you have me worried. It has not arrived yet.
Hi. It got fixed. My viewers told me their units worked fine. Foscam replaced this unit and the new one works fine. I think I got a bad one by chance.
Hi. I think so because in one of my troubleshooting videos, I mentioned using an external mic as a workaround while have it connected wireless.
First, I suggest contacting Foscam about it. The fix is easy. I think they will either fix it or replace it.
I have a new FI9826P and I get the same thing. Completely unacceptable for a $250 camera. And Foscam tech support told me to wrap the antenna in aluminum foil...so that's the best fix they have too. What a shame. I emailed them about a replacement. But it that doesn't work, I'm gonna try opening it and wrapping the speaker wire in "magnetic shielding foil", something the manufacturer should already be doing from the beginning but are too cheap to worry about the quality of their product.
wow, can't believe they told you that. I mentioned using an aluminum foil in one of my troubleshooting videos but also said I think it'll reduce wifi signal strength.
yes
you're welcome
Looks like Foscam needs to install shielded wires for the audio circuit.
The pan and tilt wasn't affected.
when I hook up a speaker so I can talk to someone I get bad feedback noise is there I fix
My think that's why their app just allows push to talk to avoid feedback but their web interface allows active 2 way.
cool
Thanks for watching!
You can also add a low pass bead to the speaker cable and this will stop the feedback from the freq. we use this when we are getting feedback from our radios in our shack and it stops it....there just FERRITE BEAD that clip on look it up if you have any questions on it. It does work another could be a cold solder on the board that is causing this so check those two things and good luck.. KG5CUO
They are real low in cost and this will fix it!
only 25 cents + shipping
Here is where you can buy them

or you can get the clip on's for a little more here
www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Laird-Technologies/28A3851-0A2/?qs=2%252bM72CStpDSC5b0MtVh%252btg%3D%3D&kpid=21677801&gclid=Cj0KEQjwt7KiBRD9lOePpe_BhrgBEiQAHaS_10bL0rprPaQ7oyGDp8FKcIw9D16AYr1PYStUS3To680aAnuS8P8HAQ
Why this works is because the wire used for the speaker is resident and is picking up the freq and you here it threw the speaker when you put the bead or clamp the bead on this breaks the freq and it is no longer resident and the sound stops but when you talk threw it this is not the freq that is bleeding threw so there should be no problems with the sound this is a cheap fix and should last with out any problems to the operation of the camera....Good luck my friends.
John Self anytime you have a freq bleeding threw this is because no filter was put on the board and so this will fix it if you have this issue.
#Foscam
John Self You can fix this by adding a filter to your audio on the board 100 ohms should do it....this will give better quality for the sound and no WiFi feedback.
If the standard antenna causes the noise, why are they using it? I'm sure they are charging for the new antenna!
Harold Greenleaf I think they're going to take caution assembling it and make sure the antenna wire doesn't come in contact with other wires.
I purchased a separate audio monitor. The app isn't that reliable when it comes to audio.
I'm having issues with a lot of audio feedback when I turn on the Mic and audio listening on at the same time.
And I'm not even in the same room. I'm at work viewing my home Foscam and I hear a lot of audio distortion/feedback. How can I fix this?
And the problem isn't crackling noise either. It pure audio feedback.
I get feedback when I do that too. I think that's why on some of the newer IP Cameras, they only permit one way audio at a time. When I speak to my mic, I can't hear from my speaker. One of my viewers said they used an external mic but I haven't given it a shot.
That's my thought too.
+Gabriel Cerda I had the exact same issue with the 19826P Foscam camera. I coukdnt use the speaker and mic at same time. I called Tech 2x and he said the antenna was bad. I just sent my camera back today.... and a little too late I have stumbled upon this video. I was planning to buy another another unit and will get this bigger antenna also
My camera is no longer working and it's making a clicking noise. I've had this camera since July 2013. PLEASE HELP WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE IT WORK AGAIN?
i don't know the answer to that. since you had it for less then a year, I would suggest contacting Foscam support.
no
The noise was at the point where I can barely hear it, with 9db or not.
That’s not crap compared to mine
Dude you just killed the wifi transmitter by unscrewing the antenna
