    *UPDATE 5/30/2012*
    Foscam has released a Firmware to support the DNS Server No-ip. This is great news because No-IP offers free accounts for personal use.
    Firmware version:
    System firmware version: 11.22.2.46
    Web UI version: 2.4.10.2.001
    A couple of my subscribers pointed out that DynDNS.org may have stopped offering free accounts. Slashdot.org reported something similar.
    tech.slashdot.o...
    I see Free listed on Dyn's website but I think they want you to first sign up for a free trial of their out their VIP (aka paid) program for 14 days. Afterward, I suspect you can cancel the paid service and stick with the free account. The hostname will expire every 30 days but you get 1 hostname to use.
    This link compares the Free User vs VIP User.
    dyn.com/dns/fre...
    If you don't want to try out Dyn's VIP service, you can still use No-ip's Free service.

    What if my IP address for the camera keeps changing?

    • @AwkwardHamster
      @AwkwardHamster  10 років тому +1

      Hi Tobi. I would recommend giving the camera a static IP address so it won't change during a reboot. I demonstrate how I set my camera to a static IP at 7:07 in this video.

      Hope it helps.

      AwkwardHamster Yes it does, but am I putting the same numbers in the fields besides the ip address? Also, my ATT/Mottorolla server preferences, I cant find how to port forward . is that necessary?

    • @AwkwardHamster
      @AwkwardHamster  10 років тому

      Port forwarding is necessary on most units, except for the plug and play models like the FI9821P I recently reviewed.
      I'm not familiar with the ATT/Motorola unit. Some routers call them tunnelling or pinhole. But I suspect it's located in the Firewall section of the router.

      ok. i really appreciate your help! Im just reading this. I put the project on hold because I couldnt figure it out and didnt want to pay 15$ extra a month for static IP. Im going to begin working on it again :)

    • @AwkwardHamster
      @AwkwardHamster  10 років тому

      Hi. When do start working on this later, I don't think paying $15 extra a month is worth it. Opening ports is different from static or dynamic IP. If it didn't work with a dynamic IP from your internet provider, I don't think it'll work with a static IP.
      If your ISP specifically says they permit ports to be open on their router if you upgrade, then that's a different story.

    I have a FI8918W and have ordered an FI8910W that should be delivered today. I was only able to view the 8918W when my computer was on and I was on the same network. This is the first time I've heard about NO-IP or DYN. I am keeping my fingers crossed that by following your tutorial I will be able to finally get to use my camera in the fashion it was intended for. Wish my luck. Thank you.

    Excellent video, thanks! I just bought a Foscom 18910W for only $85 directly from Foscam Canada and am amazed how good this camera is. Picture quality is decent and audio both ways better than expected. I still can't believe I can pan/tilt this thing remotely from my smartphone.

    I just wanted to send you a HUGE thank you for your Foscam setup videos. I got a new computer and basically had to reset everything up from scratch and was at a TOTAL loss. (The old set up was done by an ex, and was hosted through his dyn site. I wanted my own.) I watched your first one and my cam was already set up, so set it up on the new computer. Then watched this one on how to set it up with a dyndns domain name. ($25 a year is worth is for security, I used that instead of the free no-ip.) I'm computer smart, but not techy, so figuring out port forwarding, etc., it took me about 3 hours to get this all figured out, but I DID IT! This camera is important to me, my house has been robbed before, and I'm able to keep an eye on my pets. I had an elderly dog that I would watch, and the day she passed last year, I was actually able to see from work that she was in distress and get home in 10 minutes and take her to the vet. Had I not had this camera.... I can't even imagine. So getting this set back up on my new computer means the world to me. Thank you for such perfectly clear instructions. The only thing that tripped me was after I figured out port forwarding, I didn't edit it to include the unique port number I made (defaulted to 80 like you said). Once I got that, I was able to view it from a browser, mobile AND use the IP Cam Viewer app on my android phone with the new settings saved. You are the best, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    Hello, I want to thank you for helping me set up my Foscam again. I took the Foscam down for over five years now and put it away knowing that I will someday use it again. Well, I remembered very little about setting it up again and spent about 4-hours today struggling because I have forgotten about DNS. Thanks to your video, I am back on track, and of course, my DynDNS free account was gone and couldn't reinstate the account. I went to No-IP as you suggested. It sucks that audio is gone and I tried to search for the plug-in with no success. Thanks again for the detailed tutorial! - Tom

    I have recently purchased the Foscam 18910W. I read thru the manuals and the Foscam online videos I have been able to view it internally but having difficulty externally. Setup a free DDNS as well as added the port # to my external IP after setting up the Port Forwarding on my D-Link DIR-130 router connected to a basic Comcast modem (non router). I find this video the most comprehensive one and will recheck all my settings. Also reset my router to factory default as it was a surplus one with some other settings from the previous user. Thank you for putting it all in one place. Can't wait to see it work.

    If the Comcast is both modem and router, then the path would be the following
    Internet -> Comcast -> Belkin -> Foscam
    I would like to suggest the following test first to see if you can even access the Foscam from the Internet. Connect the Foscam to the Comcast. Set up port forwarding on the Comcast. If it works, then connect the Foscam back to the Belkin and set up port forwarding from Comcast to Belkin, and Belkin to Foscam.

    Before you mentioned you have the comcast router and your netgear. If the Foscam is connected to the netgear, you'll need to create 2 port forwarding rules. One on the xfinity router to redirect to the netgear. And the second on the netgear redirecting traffic to the Foscam.

    Hi. You don't have to use the DDNS setting on the Netgear. You can use the one built into Foscam instead. Basically, just 1 device on your home network needs to link with your DDNS. Foscam supports both DYNDNS and NO-IP.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    for the 2nd one, you can use the same host. But, you will need to create a separate port forwarding rule on the router in order to access it from outside your home. the 2nd port forwarding rule will have a different port than the first.
    example
    1st uses port 8090
    2nd will use port 8090
    so it will be "hostname:8090", "hostname:8091"

    Hi. All the Foscam Models I purchased have two way audio. On a computer, I've only been able to get the audio to work in Internet Explorer. So that means Windows computer.
    On my iPhone or iPad, I use Live Cams Pro app. There are other apps out there. Live Cams Pro enables two way audio.

    Android phones have a web browser. After the setup, you can put your URL and login information into the browser to access the camera. There are also apps in Google Play you can use. Then again, you'll also need to enter the same connection information in order to connect.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    First, if you were to put your internet IP into the browser, does it take you to your Foscam?
    If your internet IP changes often and the DDNS service you're using needs to be constantly updated, consider adding your DDNS account, like no-ip, to Foscam's DDNS Settings page. Then, it will automatically update your DDNS Host with the internet IP whenever it changes.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    Yes, the FI9821W uses a media port. I picked that too. What I turned off on my Foscam was the H T T PS because at the time H T T p S wasn't supported yet. I think they new version of LiveCams Pro supports it.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    It depends on the port forwarding rule you created. On your router, you'll need to create a port forwarding rule that will direct external traffic on a port you specify (can be something like 8090) and have it point to the Foscam internal IP & port.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    Few possibilities. Set the Foscam port back to 80. Update your port forwarding rule so that all traffic on port 80 goes to your Foscam IP.
    If that doesn't work, you might have to contact your ISP. This is the sticky situation a lot of my viewers reported.
    For ex, a viewer told me he uses AT&T. His setup looks correct to me but port forwarding wouldn't work. I asked him to contact AT&T. AT&T said they disabled port forwarding on his router & wanted him to buy a different router/modem from them.

    On your Verizon router, go to where you can create port forwarding rules. There's a link on the main page. Or it can be found in the firewall/security section. Create a port forwarding rule on your router to direct the internet traffic to your Foscam.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    You can put it only for Foscam. DDNS is just an alias for your internet IP. You still need to set up port forwarding on your router.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    Hi. Different router manufacturers will call it different things. But I would guess pinhole and port forward is the same thing. As long as it's a setting where you can redirect traffic on a certain port to a specific device on your local network, then that's the setting you will want to configure.
    Hope that helps.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    Did you try entering the Foscam userID? I'm pretty sure that's what it's asking for. The default userID is in the manual. The default password differs depending on your Foscam model.

    Hi, if your public IP changes often, consider using DDNS service like NO-IP. This way, you just need to memorize your no-ip Host name. Your router, or even the Foscam, can be giving your no-ip login info and it will automatically update the NO-iP host when your public IP changes.

  • @McChenko

    Hi thanks for the video it has sorted out one of my Foscams after huge fraustration to be used with wifi and through 3g on an iphone so nice work.
    When I go to add another camera add giving it a separate port number with another no-ip address I cannot make it work on the iphone. Do I have to do something with no-ip to make it work for two cameras? All port forwarding is working fine.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    I would suggest first putting your internet IP address into the web browser and click go. If you're lucky, it'll take you to the login page to your router. If it does, this is a good sign.
    Then, put your "internetIP":"port" into the browser. The "port" would be what you created with the port forwarding rule. This is how I would suggest testing if the port forwarding works before moving forward to testing your no-ip DDNS.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    Hi Holli. This means you need to create port forwarding rules on your WRT54GX2 router. Log in to the router. The port forwarding rule will probably be under Firewall.

  • @AwkwardHamster
    @AwkwardHamster  11 років тому

    Hi. Noip is directing you to your router because you haven't created port forwarding rules. In your router's settings page, you need to create these rules so that the outside world can communicate with a specific device (the Foscam) inside your local network. There are other names for port forwarding. Some call it port mapping, pinhole, etc.

    As Shane mentioned, try using a port checker tool such as canyouseeme dottorg to see if the port you opened is really opened. Sometime it may say a port is open but there could still be outside factors involved. But let's just hope for the best.

    There are software you can use to record to the computer. I've only tried vitamin d (pc & mac) and ip camera viewer from the mac app store.
    To view it on your iphone, you need to first open ports on your router. It will probably be in the firewall section, under port forwarding. Different routers call it different things. But the basic idea is to open ports.

    Hey there. First of all thank you for the lovely videos, I did not buy the cam yet so i have a question since i did not try it. My question is; what is the difference between the Dynamic DNS set up page on my router configuration page and the one on the camera. Thanks in advance if you have got an answer for me.

    I haven't heard of VSaaS and Mangocams until now. When I open a studio I'll look into those.

    To answer your first question, yes.
    But, you don't need a static IP. Foscam purchased today comes with DDNS. There are also free services out there from DYNDNS and No-IP.
    Also, having a static IP and supporting 2 Foscams are two completely separate tasks. I say this because the most important thing setting up the port forwarding on your router. If that's set up correctly and your ISP doesn't block it, then you're good to go.

    Thanks. I have my own router (linksys), but I was thinking the same thing about the ISP. Tried numerous ports and none work. Thanks again.

    It's easy enough, I'm on a mac, as usual it tried to make it easier. As if. Anyway works well, up address can be a slight issue but great product. Nice one

    Hi. I call it port forwarding. Many in IT calls it port forwarding. But companies can, and some do, call it whatever they want to try to sound unique. Try the port triggering, it could very well be the same thing.

    What you described sounds more challenging then what I did. I don't know how to connect my Foscam directly to my 3G device.

    I think i got it to work now by using the Static WAM IP Address, but now my problem is that i dont have the option to record the video from my computer. I use Chrome internet, so i have to choose the Server Push Mode to view the camera, but it doesn't give the option to record. I also can't talk to the people that are near the camera (FI8910W). I can hear them, but not talk to them!
    Thank you for your really fast response!

    Nice videos, helped me a lot with my foscam FI8916W.
    I noticed that the new foscam you installed had a tremendous difference in quality.
    Which foscam (in your opinion) has the best quality?
    Also do the newer foscams have a zoom feature?
    One cool feature I like about foscam is the two way audio. I'm using a app on my iPhone called "OWLR foscam" which has a Push to talk feature.
    Anyway thanks for your vids.

    I finally got it set and the FoscamPro App works well for both my iphone and my ipad but only while on the wifi. I can't seem to access the camera from outside the network.
