Hi there and thanks for the review. I know this has been asked different ways several times but was curious on specifics of the FI9821W vs FI8910W. I thought in one of your other reviews the audio quality was worse on the FI9821W. Is this your opinion? Also - if you do get 2 different models can they be displayed within the same control panel? Or do you have seperate URL/app to view the different cameras. Paying a little more is not an issue, but I may want to get additional cameras later.

Regarding using the FI9821W for baby monitoring - are the IR LED's on the 9821W brighter than older models of Foscams? I have an older model and the IR LED's are not very bright visibly, even though the images on the webcam are perfectly fine. But on other forums, people mentioned the LED's are really bright. Is it too bright to use as a baby webcam?
As a retired Instructional Designer I appreciate the lengths to which you went to review this device. For the future, I'd recommend an introduction to tell the viewer what the review covers and the level of background one needs to understand the contents, e.g. beginner, intermediate, or advanced. I especially, like the pros and cons section and use of PnP on your laptop while showing the software interface. Well done. Thank you.

I am looking for a nanny cam, I like the feature of the sd recording, do you recommend this fi9821w? I want to be able to watch at any time and also record so I can go back and take a look at recordings. What do you think? It will be in my living room

1. If I don't need to hide the cameras (& hissing fixed) do you now recommend this for security? It's a bit large (and would be better in white). Thoughts?
2. Do you like or recommend the Blue Iris software if you're planning on recording/archiving the data?
3. How does this camera compare to the DropCam or Swann systems? DropCam records 1 camera at a time, and it's expensive on a per-month basis,and the swann seems TOO cheap (8 cameras + DVR less than $500)
Which outdoor camera would you recommend? We have had 2 cars that were keyed during the night. I purchased a wanscam IP wireless (Purple unit: .3) for around $60. It's good for the price, but I wouldn't mind spending more for a better/newer/higher res camera....any suggestions?

What would you recommend for outdoor surveillance; it's for my driveway someone vandalized my car. I was thinking more of an outdoor PTZ, do you know any good quality outdoor PTZ name brands and model?

Hello, I was watching your video and the crackling noise really bugged me to. However, I looked on their website and they have a newer firmware out. Can you test it and see if this firmware solves the crackling noise?
3. When using the LiveCams Pro app, when you add the camera to view it, does that mean other users around the world can view your camera ?
4. Since I am having trouble viewing the 9821W through my iphone with the app, I tried to open it through safari on the iphone. It opens the front page but I am unable to download the plugin from the front page. Is there another way I can open the 9821W through safari on my iphone ?

How do u download the plugin on the login page with safari ? I am unable to do it on both my iphone and ipad. I can login without the plugin but it does not allow me to view the camera and I only have access to the settings. Any suggestions on viewing on an apple device without a app ?
Hi Kevin, it can transmit wireless or you can plug in the Ethernet cable.
So it almost sounds like the 8910 model has very mature software/firmware, where as the 9821 isn't quit at that maturity level yet. Perhaps after a few more iterations it will be more on par? Would you agree with that? Just really trying to decide which model to get.

Would the FI9821W be a good security camera? would you highly recommended this?
I think the noice is caused by the motor trying to sync to your web-browsers buttons...
is it possible to turn the motor off in the settings? so you can confim that?
I haven't tried the V2 so I don't know if LiveCams Pro has updated their software to support 2 way audio. I suggest e-mailing them. When I contacted them in the past, they have been responsive.

This would depend on if your Router supports this IP camera and has the software to administer it. It won't be controlled from the Foscam.

I use LiveCams Pro. Cost $6 but I think it's worth it. The app is very refined.

When I watch the cam through chrome its almost instant. maybe a fraction of a second delay. Through LiveCams Pro theres a huge delay but the sound is almost instant. Weird right ?
Hallo Awkwardhamster, i have a question about the 2 way audio feature on this camera. This weekend i installed my FI9821W V2 and when i connect to it through internet explorer i can hear sounds comming from the room but when i activate the microphone in the foscam program no sound comes out of the camera speaker.
I have a microphone connected to my PC but i cant find settings for it in the Foscam program.
What is it i'm doing wrong ?

1. I have got a FI9821W and just downloaded the LiveCams Pro app as you suggested. It picks up my 21W but when I try to pan the cam through the app, it has a few minutes delay ? the sound is almost instant though. any suggestions ?
2. I am having trouble upgrading the firmware also. It doesnt work in chrome so I tried to update it through IE (on the same computer) as you suggested and still doesnt work. what do you think I should do ?

this camera only shoots at 640x480 resolution by i want something with HD capabilities.
Thanks for the review. I decided to try and got FI9821W v2 just a month ago. It is worth coz the image quality is good even at dark. I've tried the alarm recording, motion detection, and email and they all work well. I do not expect to get a best sound from ip camera for the built-in speaker is small but am satisfied. It is advisable to have wireless N connection for smooth streaming locally. for remote, there are factors to consider like ur connection to ISP provider at home and at other place
Hi, nothing, I use one site to check open ports, and the port said is open. I checked that the port open and assigned to the camera at the router are the same setup on the camera configuration.

Hi. I used the ethernet at the initial setup. Afterward, I just use Wifi.

I enjoyed your video on the FI9821, but I can't figure out how it differs from the FI9816. I can't tell on the website either and the prices are similar. I think the FI9816 might be the newer of the two. I only need it to watch my dog and maybe sometimes for other things. I have a security system, so it's not really for that. I want to be able to pan and tilt to see my small dog. I have an Android phone (kitkat) and my husband has an iphone 5. I use Firefgox on my PC, but think I would mostly use my phone to view anything. Which do you suggest and why? THANK YOU!
Cindy B Hi. I haven't reviewed the FI9816P so I'm not sure of the difference. FI9821P is a proven camera that's widely supported. Hard to argue against that. Since both of these units have the QR Code, you can use the Foscam Viewer app on iOS or Android to access it on your cell phone.
Hi. It turns out I had a defective unit. Foscam replaced my unit. Before I sent the old one back, I made 2 follow-up videos in regards to the noise and how to fix it. My other viewers have told me they do not hear the crackling noise on their FI9821W. Hope that helps.
Hi. I had to install a plugin to get this model to work in Safari. At the login page, there was a link above the spot where I enter my username. That link downloads the plugin. After installing it, I was able to use this Foscam. Hope that helps.

I have the 8910W and I would like to buy another one, I travel a lot and I have two kids which I would like to see "like a baby monitor" or to see my house "not for security cam but more for peace of mind" that everything is ok , so which you recommend the 8910W or 9821W ... thanx .... and hope that u reply.

I get this model 21W, but version 2, I tried and follow the manual to setup for remote access from internet, outside of my home network. 1) add a host to No-ip.org with my computer public IP, 2) setup the foscam with the user, password and provider (no-ip.org) 3) port forward on my router.
and I still can not access the camera from outside my home network. Please help me,

Hi, with my FI9821W, I have set up 3rd party DNS with no-ip. Everytime I turn my computer off and then back on again and liog into the foscam, the DDNS status says failed ? I have noticed that the IP address under the Device status tab and then Sessions status keeps changing ? would this be why DDNS keeps failing ?

May I ask which cam you would recommend if you want to point the cam at a small aquarium? I may also monitor a small room with it too.
I guess I would be looking for a cam with good color and a picture that would give me a smoother video when viewing online through a browser. Are these cams capable of giving you a sharp
picture from a very short distance from your subject? I'm so new at all this. I did watch two or three off your videos which were excellent but they didn't seem to address setting your

Hi Jill. Focus hasn't always been perfect with the Foscam. On one of my FI8918W units, I had to prefocus the camera whenever I move it. You might want to consider getting a Dropcam. Their sensor is pretty good but they have poor viewing angel. If you're monitoring an aquarium, it might just be enough.

What does PoE stand for?
Does this Camera have a battery? My house phones make noise when the battery gets low. The noisy ones are the 2.4 GHz phones.
Also swap the connecting Cat 5 Cord for a different one. You might have a loose connector or bad assemble. I've had bad cables that caused many performance issues. Both audio and video.

Now we have a second one on the way and I was wondering which one do you recommend the 8910W or the Foscam FI9821W?
How do the viewing angles compare?
I would still recommend the FI8910W for the baby camera. Besides security purposes, I think the FI8910W is a good, inexpensive, general purpose camera.
Have you attempted to connect these to your synology? Just ordered one of these to test out after finding out my dropcams are going to kill my bandwidth caps with uverse.
I haven't had time to explore more features on the Synology. I hope to get to it over the summer.
Hi, the ports are opened, I tested on those site that test open ports. i open both, 443, and 88. So, open the port on Router and assign it to the internal ip address for the camera I think is fine.
I tried using my external ip 172.xxxx.xx..x:88 and nothing....
My windows have this wire mesh. The IR LED lights bounces off it, right back at the CMOS sensor. This makes my image completely white. I can't see a thing. I would imaging it can work as long as nothing obstructs the view.
So happy I found this video. I was about to purchase for use as a security camera but with that noise you pointed out it would be point less. I do have a question though, could you suggest a camera similar to this with the same field of vision suitable for outdoors in a porch area with a roof over it? Any help. Foscam sent me a replacement and it didn't have the sound. My viewers told me theirs didn't have the sound either so it looks like I had a bad unit.
I haven't tried their outdoor models since they cost 2x as much, probably because they're weather resistant.

Would be using ours as a monitor cam, over the crib of our newborn. I assume the 8910 would be adequate? It'll pan/tilt too and has two way audio. We don't really need HD.
I know this one has SD Card support. What about the other foscam camera models just under this one that dont have SD card support. If i was away from home and get a email notification picture, do i have the option to then record video from my app, if so where would this video be stored?

The app can be manually used to record your camera feed. For models that do not have SD card, you can use other things like cloud recorder, record to computer, or a NAS to manage it.

Thanks for the comprehensive review on the cam. You mentioned that you would have to keep the computer running to be able to view it online otherwise the SD card function would be useful. I am wondering if we can just set up the camera and then keep the computer on sleep mode and still be able to view it via Safari from another computer at another location? Please advise. Thanks!
HY C Hi. Keeping the computer on is just for recording. If you just want to view it, you don't need the computer on.

That crackling issue appears to have been with very few units. When I notified Foscam about it, they replaced it. Also, my viewers told me their units did not exhibit the same issue.
Yes, you can view multiple Foscam devices even if the other units are MPEG or H.264 models.

I haven't reviewed an outdoor camera yet. The outdoor models I've seen are 0.3 MP and I think that's too low for general use.
Let me know how it goes. I'm sure they all have their pros and cons. The 1st webcam I used was the Edimax and that didn't go well so I returned it with a restocking fee and bought a less expense webcam, the Foscam, with the remaining money.

The replacement unit does not have the crackling issue.
It depends on what you want to use it for. If you want to use it as a security camera and your internet has enough bandwidth for HD video, then the HD webcam is better.
Wow, my delay is just a sec, at most 2. If you watch it from a computer, what's the delay? For me, I was only able to upgrade the firmware using IE. That could be my setup. I suggest trying other browsers, and IE again, to find one that works.
can this be mounted outside (waterproof) and if not how is the resolution and images if it's shooting thru glass (reflection) and or screens on windows?

Hi, yes in my gmail account when i then proceed to Connected applications and sites, manage access, Application-specific passwords, i generate my uneek 16 digit login pass and use this as my password in the foscam ui, but this still dose not work, when testing it fails every time
I would like to know if there is a possibility to turn off the wifi.
I can't find the way to do that. Maybe I could remove the antenna on the back and wifi will turn off?
In the admin page, under Wireless LAN Setting, there is a checkbox to enable or disable wireless LAN.
You can unscrew the antenna but I would think not specifying a wireless lan would have the same effect.
Glad I watched this was going to purchase one of these but I will leave it for now

do i have to pay foscam monthly to view the camera on my phone? without setting up some sort of home server...like is the camera itself good enough to stream and do everything without it being connect to a computer?
Viet Tran no monthly fees out of the box. no need for computer other then initial setup. If you want to record images or video and store it on a cloud server, there would be monthly fees. Let me know if you have any questions.
For the email setting I set it to text my phone carrier when motion triggers, but it takes 50 sec !! that's awhile. is that about average? also can I get snapshot or video in the text? thanks (oops for FI9821p)
Okaythen001 I guess that's OK. I haven't revisited the text messages because I don't want to go over my pre-paid amount. I don't remember getting MMS in my text messages from the Foscam notification. You can give it a shot and let me know!
