    By the way, shouldn't disabled DHCP. If you don't want the IP to change, you should log in to your router and assign all your cameras "static" IPs (usually a checkbox). As this is stored on your router, if you get a new router or do a factory reset, you will need to repeat the process, but you should be able to set the same IPs. Disabling DHCP can lead to unpredictable things happening.

    Be aware that if you let your router assign IP addresses you may not get the same address again if you have to restart the router. Better to update your router an assign an IP address to the dvr, that way you always grrt the same address.

      @@jakebumgarner4328 watch videos on how to set a static ip address on your device. Its pretty easy but you need to watch a few.
      Your nvr will have a network tab. You just change where It says DHCP to static ip

      Easiest way is to turn on DHCP. Let it be assigned the address then turn off the DHCP setting. It will be a static address. Otherwise it requires knowing the address of your router and then choosing the static address for the NVR. If you can access the client list for your router it helps that way you don't assign a address that is already in use and cause IP conflicts.

    Two things, you should explain about dhcp reservation or changing the dhcp range, a easy way to get around the network traffic and security is to use vlans on managed switches

      That is more technical than what this video is covering. If you are just setting up a home system and using these videos then you don't really need to. If you are setting up for a large multiple camera system then there are videos on network setups that can show how to accomplish those tasks. Nelly's also has awesome customer support that can walk you through various setup configurations for your application.

    Btw there is a way that you can see your cameras IP address when you cameras are connected to an internal POE switch, you just need a desktop switch you connect on one port your Internet cable coming from the router on the next port a cable coming from the internal POE switch and another cable going back to the Internet port on the nvr

    • @NellysSecurity
      @NellysSecurity  2 роки тому

      Yes that's correct! With the NVRs internal network being segregated from the local network, connecting a PC to an unused POE port via ethernet cable is usually what we'll recommend if any camera troubleshooting is needed to be done.

    Debating on getting 2-4 cameras. I need one for the front and back yard. Front of house faces north, south side gets back sun exposure. However, I live in MI and it gets -30F in the winter and no sun. I have outlets outside. Suggestions on a brand or brands that would work for my concerns. No lag between movements, leaves blowing creating false alerts, sunlight making the camera unable to see. I'd prefer not drilling holes through my home or walls but ideally no batteries to change outside etc.

    Thank you for your video. I have a question - I want to purchase an NVR but I won't be running POE, just normal net cables. I assume you can power the cameras normally? but will they work via a powerline homeplug adapter? I already have a couple of individual IP cameras working ok but an NVR would be much better.
    Also, if you do a port forwarding on the router (external static IP address to internal static IP address), can you not see the NVR and the cameras?

    • @NellysSecurity
      @NellysSecurity  2 роки тому +1

      Hello!
      Yes most cameras do have a 12vDC power input along with the RJ45 connection. So POE isnt 100% required, but its nice to have!
      Typically you will just port forward the NVR, and the cameras will be viewed through the NVR.

      Thats correct! Most NVRs have a feature called "Virtual Host", which will allow you to log into the camera's web interface through the NVR from a local PC. Just note that this is usually only doable with plug n play devices, ONVIF usually wont allow this to work properly.

      There are limitations on how far the data and the power can travel. However, this can be overcome with specialized PoE switches with an extend mode, or with PoE extenders and repeaters. Check out our PoE video for more info: ua-cam.com/video/C2fAbq6QZyA/v-deo.htmlsi=cBseDaJ4W2ez_GEF

    could i use my laptop instead of NVR if i have a PoE and a switch ?

      Technically yes you can. There are 3rd party softwares out there that can turn your PC into a recorder. Blue Iris is one example.

    Are these vulnerable to hackers being that it’s connected to wifi? I’m running cheapo wifi cameras right now and need something secure, I don’t know a lot about this but am ready to upgrade to something serous

    • @NellysSecurity
      @NellysSecurity  Рік тому

      Anything exposed to the internet is prone to being hacked in a sense. As long as you use strong passwords and connect over the cloud and not port forward.

    Might an NVR run on 12v so I could use it in my RV, inside a security container? Helpful when off grid. Some cameras have SD recording, but thieves could steal the camera.

    • @NellysSecurity
      @NellysSecurity  2 роки тому

      Some NVRs can run off 12v! Or You could look into using an inverter to convert DC to AC for the NVR to support.

    • @robbiemorrison89
      @robbiemorrison89 2 роки тому

      @@NellysSecurity I believe the best case is to get a hidden camera with SD card for RV use. The batteries with inverter on will be be drained if I had to source an NVR.

      If not, then we like recommending ipcamtalk.com. We are an official vendor with them and the guys over there are knowledgeable on systems outside the scope of our support.

    How do you add a coax camera to something like this?

    • @NellysSecurity
      @NellysSecurity  11 місяців тому

      For coax, you would need a DVR (digital video recorder). The NVR doesn't do any video processing, that's all done in the IP camera. Coax cameras also don't do any video processing. That's all handled by the DVR. Check out this video for more info: ua-cam.com/video/_OH2YiqckFo/v-deo.htmlsi=i7yPCUgfBYlT04He

    Hi there!, I need some help with the ip address. I'm unable to view my cameras on my phone becasue the technician from Comcast had to change the modem. I was not aware that by doing so it would create a problem by changing the modem. Everything was working fine on my phone with the cameras until the modem was changed. I'm not too tech savvy but need all the help I could get. Thank you

      That will be because you disabled DHCP. You shouldn't do that. If you don't want the IP to change, you should log in to your router and assign all your cameras "static" IPs (usually a checkbox). As this is stored on your router, if you get a new one or do a factory reset, you will need to repeat the process.

      Yes the NVR can still talk to cameras on the Uplink port without internet as long as everything is physically connected.
