hi need some help here, I accidentally installed ipcwebcomponent.exe twice when I try to access camera on chrome (normally I access it from firefox) I also renamed the folder to "ipcwebcomponent chrome" in program folder. Now both browsers say "Plugins are not found, Click me to download" and when I manually drag ipcwebcomponenet.exe to add-on page it says it's corrupt. what do I do now? also IPAddress:Port/plugins.crx it returns 404.

thanks for all your helpful reviews. Your review about FI9831P made me spend a bit more money than what i would ;) I tried to make an ad-hoc connection with my tablet/pc but no luck. I know that it's not officially supported, but i've read for older models like this one that it is possible to achieve this. Do you know if this can be done also for FI9831P? And if yes, how? Max Gaza As you pointed out, I saw this feature in the older models. I don't recall seeing ad-hoc in the FI9831P manual. I don't think I would be able to help because I haven't tried using it that way.

Thanks for the great vids. I have a question for you. I was able to set up my camera and get it working on my iphone, however when I moved the camera to a new location in my house (still wired to the router) I am not able to log in to the IP client on my Mac. I am still able to access and control the camera via the Foscam viewer app on the iphone though so I think the problem is in the IP settings. I can access my router, but not sure what to change. Can I reset the IP settings for the camera without being able to access the IP client? Any advice you have is appreciated. Thanks.
CoonBearDog If you can find the IP of the camera from the router, see if you can connect using it. If not, the simplest step is to reset the camera and try configuring it again. After the reset, see if IP Camera tool detects it.

Ax Player For FI9831P, it's got the 1.3 MP sensor allowing you to obtain a video resolution of 960P. In my review video, I showed the difference between 720P and 960P. 720P is great for TV, but for security I prefer 960P. Personally, I feel that being able to watch more of a room (vertical) is better then less.

I just received nv1108 and 4 ea. foscam 9804 ,cameras. Would to see video of set up of nv1108. Not sure all cables are included. Anyway would love to see set up video.
Have you noticed a difference in image quality using P2P vs manual entry in the foscam app? I set my 9831P right next to 9821 both with Ethernet cables. When viewed on my computer the 31 has far superior image quality, but viewed from my phone (Wi-Fi internal) the 21 looks much clearer. Same for both my Android and iPhone5. Is there a separate video setting for streaming to computer v phone?
climbhigh86 Two things. I don't like using Foscam Viewer (image wasn't as sharp), prefer LiveCams Pro (quality is better). I didn't adjust my settings differently between Livecams Pro and TinyCam Monitor Free. Video quality on a mobile device configured by the Sub stream video settings. Got to the Foscam settings page, then go to Video Settings, and scroll down to Sub stream video settings. You can increase it. But keep in mind that if it's set high, your video might get choppy because the bandwidth can't handle it.
in the directions for set up, it says NOT to use an ethernet cable if you are going to use a wireless connection. I ran the setup software and the camera is not showing up on IP Camera Tool. The camera green light is blinking really fast. The network is working. Also the app on my phone says "account not activated". Any hints as to how to fix this.
Don't recall seeing any account activation for Foscam Viewer. Unless you are using the Foscam Cloud Service app? That one will ask for a cloud login.
The instructions do not work. I installed the foscam client from the foscam website and it still keeps asking for a plugin. I have internet explorer, firefox and chrome no change. I cannot access or configure the camera.

My foscams r not working anymore so i tried to do the setup again. However, when i tried using the IP camera tool, none of my foscams appear on the list. Hi. You can't find the camera after plugging the camera to the router? That is strange. Other option is to reset the camera and start the configurations over from the beginning.

I have some problems with my camera. Every time when i have off the power to the camera and turn back on it doesn't connect to my router. I have to do a reset and connect to my router again, as if this is a new camera.

If the camera isn't using the latest firmware, I would recommend updating it. If it has the latest firmware, I would recommend notifying Foscam of the issue.

I live in NJ, the FI9831P would have a higher chance of failing if I used it outdoors due to the humidity, cold, heat, etc.
Very helpful review! I'm looking to buy one of these to protect my apartment while I'm gone. I see it has the option to record automatically upon detecting motion; however, I would need to purchase Foscam Cloud in order to be able to store the images online, correct? Do you use this or do you recommend another service?
Hector Arevalo Jr. When I publish my review this weekend, it'll show Foscam Cloud in the background. Foscams are widely supported so there are a number of options available for storage. No time, and money, to review them all. I've only used Foscam Cloud and Synology.

I have a couple of questions for you I've read a few reviews of people saying that find it very difficult to access the cameras while at work for example. (Via Internet Explorer or Chrome). Would you have a link where I could read more about it?
The second one is, if I don't want to rely on sd cards and only access /view/manage my videos via cloud, I know that we have to pay for a monthly subscription, but then again, could I do all these things when I am not at home for example, and accessing all my recordings from somewhere else?

I think that's because those browser plugins are beta and Foscam haven't released a 64-bit IE plugin yet. And to access this camera using a smartphone is easy by using Foscam's app. But, if I want to access the camera remotely from a computer, that is more complicated. It would involve opening ports on the router. I think Foscam is working on a way to get around this with myfoscam.com.
To view SD Card remotely using an app, I opened ports on the router to have the app work with the camera so I can use Live Cams Pro for iOS devices. It's not made by Foscam and cost a few dollars. If I couldn't open ports on the router, I wouldn't buy Live Cams Pro.

It's one of those things that's on my to do list. But not sure when I can get around to it. It's harder to schedule time to shoot a howto video.
I just ordered (and it is currently being shipped) the Foscam FI9831P. I think I noticed that you put in a User ID and Password not only on the Foscam application on your Mac, but also in the Foscam application on your iPhone. Do the User IDs and Passwords have to be the same on both devices? For example, I am going to be using a Hewlett Packard with Windows to set up the Foscam. Let's say my Foscam User ID is: 123, and my Password is: 456. Then I use my iPhone 5c to access the FI9831P via the QR code. Do I need to put in 123 as the User ID and 456 as the Password, or can it or does it have to be a different User ID and Password from the Foscam setup in my Hewlett Packard?

Hi. In your example, that is correct.
When directly accessing the camera, yes the userID and password can be the same whether you use the smartphone app or directly accessing the camera using a web browser.
The QR Code is just a means of direction. Like saying take me to USA rather then United States of America.
Even if you use the QR Code, you will still be prompted to enter the userid and password.
Now, you can create multiple userid accounts, for grandma, mom, nanny, neighbor, etc.

Hi There. I am unable to view the camera (on or off the network) the second I remove the Ethernet cable. I configured the wireless connection in the web interface, confirmed correct encryption & password is being used etc. Logged into the router and everything looks correct there as well. Any suggestions? Anything would be appreciated, I've tried everything I could think of.
+Maria R Okay and as I post this I figured it out - once you disconnect the Ethernet cable you need to go to IP Camera Tools again and find the camera because it gets assigned a new IP once putting it on the WIFI.

How does the security work with plug & play. If I had a legitimate reason for visiting your home, walked over to your Foscam and scanned the QR code with the app on my iPhone, would that give me access to your Foscam.
Peter Jones After scanning the QR code, the person would still need to know your camera's username and password. The QR code is like someone learning your IP address or DDNS host name. Hard to hide it.
Just bought this FI9831P and I just can't get the wireless to work. I am thinking I have a defective item. I have Fios and your instruction and the quick installation guide. Any suggestion before I return it? Thanks
infernostr I would avoid wireless names with special characters or spaces. The WPS on Fios router doesn't work for me so I have to manually enter my wifi info. See if you have the latest firmware. Press the reset button at the bottom of the Foscam for 40 sec while it's plugged into the outlet, then try adding the wifi info to it again.
AwkwardHamster No, didn't work. bought another one same problem. I tried everything and I am pretty sure it's a software issue. I worked on this thing for hours and I am not computer illiterate. I am upset about it because I like the camera and I really want this thing to work. I am sure if I spend more time/hours I could probably make this thing work. The point is why? The customer should be able to just connect this thing and everything should be easy. Why should the customer spend hours trying to figure out how to go here, go there, disable this, upgrade firmware, etc.?! I will not buy Foscam again.
can anyone with access to the cam add it to their app or does it lock others out once it has been added to one account? I can see a stranger with access to the cam adding it to their app if that's possible and then being able to see your cam.
Justa Dad Anyone that has the username and password can access the camera. If you give the username to a stranger, the stranger can access it.

Great little cam. Easy browser setup, but that "Client" software will not work no matter what I try. Any advice?
One more thing. IR LEDs are supposed to be 850nm, right? I bought a hi-power 850nm IR LED illuminator (300-400 ft) for increased range but the cam does not see the beam regardless of its placement or direction. Advice?

Camera would have to be in night vision mode to see IR LED reflections.

I don't used their CMS. I like Foscam because their hardware is widely supported by 3rd party software. I don't like Foscam's software.
I finally got it working connect from outside, but it is not very stable but working. I have to setup port forwaring.
I was confuse the spec say no port forewarding required.
By the way, the video is excellent and useful.

I think if you can return or exchange the unit, you should because the P2P setup should be easiest.

If local wifi is smooth but cell network isn't smooth, then you might want to lower the bitrate for video resolution. In newer Foscam firmware, I can set the video bitrate to variable (VBR) rather then constant (CBR).
Foscam cloud (blue app) is just OK. It's better then Foscam viewer and Foscam cloud (black app).
I did lower the video quality in Foscam。 There is a slider， move the slider to the left to lower the resolution。 Then the video will look smoother without less video delay， but video quality drops。If I know I could spend less cost for lower resolution camera。

What version go OS X are you using?When using Safari I keep getting "Please relogin after installing the plugins" I've installed the plugins a few times and rebooted for good measure. When I use Firefox I get a message that the plugin has crashed.

It's the version of the plugin that is important. After updating the camera firmware, I would delete the existing safari plugin then install the new plugin from the camera login page.
Now with this qr code do you still need to setup port forwarding and us noip or dyndns so that you dont lose connection when your external ip changes?

the idea behind it is you do not need to do any port forwarding. A very small segment, less than 5%, of my viewers reported issues requiring them to open ports.
+AwkwardHamster i talked to tech support this morning the guy told me I can just use the assigned computer name in the ddns instead of suing the dyndns or noip and I shouldn't have to worry about losing access when my wan ip address changes. I wasn't sure sorry I was watching one of your videos from several years ago and you talked about port forwarding and I figured I would still need to use it.

Use of the QR code for the P2P setup does not need port forwarding

I just got this camera and wanted to compare the quality to an older Foscam I have. I put them side by side pointing in the same spot out a window. The older model displays the picture fine but this one is way over exposed. Everything is white. I updated the firmware but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Try setting the video settings back to default. Perhaps the contrast, saturation, and other items are set too high.

Can't view on the Foscam Viewer app for either IPhone or Android. Always get loin failed or connection failed. When I first setup the cam it assigned an IP of 10.0.0.6. Could this be the problem? It works fine over the web using Foscam's DDNS.
Larry McLaren Hi Larry. Glad you can view it using Foscam's ddns because that was the hard part. For iPhone or Android, did you use the Foscam Viewer app to scan the QR code on the bottom? Or are you manually entering the camera info into the app?

I haven't encountered an issue with scanning the QR code before. The next thing I would look at would be the username and password. For example, the password can not exceed a certain number of characters.

I can't get the FI9831P to work with the internal Micro SD card. It recognizes it and reports the storage size in Record->Storage Location, but when I try to set the Recording Location to SD card and try to save it, I get the dreaded "You have not right to access local recording path" message. Foscam tech support had me set the H264 IPC web plugin in Safari on my Mac to Allow Always, but that didn't help.
Tom Clark Interesting they asked you to do that. Can you see if there is a firmware update available for your unit? I would try Internet Explorer if possible too.
AwkwardHamster It was a misunderstanding about the meaning of "Recording Location" and "Local Recording Location". The documentation makes the distinction much more clear. I wish there was an option to just hit record and store it to the SD card, but oh, well.

+Ng Sher On my iPhone I use the Foscam iOS app from ShenZen. On my iMac I use the browser interface. Both of them allow me to pan and tilt just fine.
I still have problem to pan and rotate with Foscam apps. I have another problem, I can erase the recorder AVI videos?
I placed microsd card in a SD and USB adapters in desktop computers and laptops. One desktop computer has a blue screen, the other computer failed to read the card. In laptop with XP, card does not even read. In other laptop with Win 7,
a popup asks to format. It failed to format.
How can I suppose to erase all the recorded videos from the microsd card?
Is there command in the browser and mobile Foscam apps to erase the AVI videos? Do you think the Foscam Client software would has command to erase the files?
The current version of Foscam client does not access the SD card, just have to access it using the web interface.
As for problems reading the card. That sound more like an issue with the card. I would format the card in fat32 then try using it again with the Foscam.
I can not find delete command in IE web interface using Search Tool is 1.0.0.5. I have not yet log in to window safe mode to access to access the card.
There is no delete command in the web interface. The camera keeps recording by deleting the old file to make room for newer files when storage is full.

Hi, great video. Can one view this camera from outside of the local Wi-Fi network? Say I want to use is as a baby monitor and give the grandparents the ability to view the video feed from their home. Is this possible? Also, how does the sound work?

Hi. It can work outside of local wifi. The quick way to access it remotely is to use the Foscam Viewer app on apple or android devices (free) to scan the QR code and enter the userid/password. In the viewer app, you can listen or speak.

Hello my new camera Foscam FI9831W worked just fine last night so i just unpluged the camera and did nothing else till this morning that i pluged in and it just wont boot or do anything at all it only shows 1 red led that its on but the other green led wont stay on... only a few seconds like maybe10 seconds an it will autoshut off the green led and the red led yes it shows on.... thecamera is brandnew used only for couple of hours .....it wont bootup if it does it will do like for 10seconds andwill shut off help please

I would try resetting the unit. When the unit is powered on, press the reset button on the bottom for 45 seconds. You'll know it reset when it starts to scan the room.
***** after many times trying to reset it does scan but when its done scanning is when it auto shutsdown like 5 seconds or so... after scanning the green led goes off the red stays on...and i meant green led that is on top of red power led so it wont showup on the ip client tool ... and this is just in case i get it to reset it. cause sometimes it takes to many times to make it do that. any clue about whats wrong with it? and pardon my english
If the network cable is plugged in now, after you have reset it, and you run the IP Camera Tools, does it find the camera?
AwkwardHamster nop wont show anything at all but i forget to say it this was after a power surge the power went off and cameback for a second an went off again for like half aan hour you think it had any thingh to do with it?
If you have another AC power adapter that is similar to the Foscam one in terms of power output and connector, I would try switching it out.
What App do you recommend for Android users? I couldn't find LiveCams Pro. Is it apple only? I like the Joystick functionality of the app "IP Cam Remote" but the multi view doesn't work properly
Matt Cummings If you only use Foscam, then Foscam Viewer because it's free. If you use different brand IP Camera, then Tinycams.

AwkwardHamster - so I'm not sure if my cameras are defective or if I'm doing something wrong. They were working fine this morning when I was home and on my wifi network. But now I have left the house and I'm on my 4G network and they won't connect. Not from either of the 2 apps I have. Do I need to do more than what is in your video?
Not if you got this model I showed that has Plug and Play. If you got the PnP model, then you can use the Foscam Viewer app to scan the QR code for quick setup.
AwkwardHamster I've tried both, scanning with the App and doing it via plug in. For some reason it seems like the cameras don't stay connected to the WiFi. It's not a distance issues as I have one of the cameras on the other side of an interior drywall from my router. I also have a Swann camera that I was going to return an replace with these that never has an issue connecting... Have you ever experience the cameras not connecting when you jump on the app? I'm contemplating returning the foscam and sticking with the Swann Camera, and purchasing a Swann for exterior as well. But before I do that I want make sure I've tried everything

I went to foscam.us/tools-support.html/ and clicked "All Browser Plugins/Addons". It gives me a zip file that only contains an EXE file which of course I can not run on my mac. I searched foscams site and can't find anything else. Can you send me the file you were able to download?
whaczup Hi, the Mac Safari plugin is downloaded from the login page. When you access the camera's page asking for userID and password, it'll detect if the plugin was installed. If it wasn't, a link will appear above the username for us to click and download the plugin. What model is your camera?
AwkwardHamster I have the same camera - FI9831P. When I was in Safari, I clicked on that link and it downloaded "FoscamWebComponents.zip" and when unzipped, the only file in the zip is "FoscamWebComponents.exe". No mac files. Hey, also, I noticed a glitch. If you do the software update in the Foscam software, and like me, if you could NOT load the browser plugins, the Foscam software will not let you log in without installing the plugins. Now I'm caught in a loop! Arggg!!
whaczup I have not seen Safari asking you to download that plugin. I would not have expected it since you're on Mac and that download is for Windows. Can you try this? First, see if the plugin was installed for Safari and delete it. Maybe it is an old version or just the wrong version. Then clear Safari cache. Restart Safari and access the Foscam login page. It won't find the plugin so a download link should appear above the username field. Download it and see if it's the one for Mac.
+AwkwardHamster I have the same problem on Mac where the login page link (and the link on Foscam's website under Browser Plugins/Addons) sends me a FoscamWebComponents.exe file instead of the .pkg file I see in your video. Would you be willing to email me the .pkg file as I can't find it on foscam's website, and their live chat is... the opposite of live. :)
+Steve Erwin Scratch that. I manually typed the IP address into Safari (I was using Chrome) and got to the login page and clicked the link and it gave me the plugins.pkg file. Wow. Such broken software. Thanks for the video, though.

Logan Nayve Hi. You don't have to use WPS. You can scan for the wireless name and enter the password. Or if your wireless name is hidden, you can also type in the wireless network name, pick the security type, and enter the password.
AwkwardHamster I able to see & save my wireless network but once I unplug the network cable theres no more connection & there's a box on the bottom say "timeout" i tried to unplug the power cord too.
Logan Nayve If you've ever added a smartphone or computer to wifi, then I don't think you entered it wrong here. Does your wifi name have a space or special character? I've seen those cause issues in the past. After you unplug the network cable, restart the camera, do you use IP Camera Tool to find the camera again? Where does it say "timeout"? In a web browser?
AwkwardHamster yes i use the IP search Camera tool.. once I unplug the ethernet cord from the camera then start to refresh the IP configuration or scan in wireless network list, the timeout start to appear in the web browser Safari. I don't have any special character in my wifi name, I tried to restart the camera already still doesn't work

I followed all the steps, but for some reason when I tried to log in for the first time with username: admin and password: (blank), I get a message telling me the username and password does not match. Not sure how to continue

Hi. In that case, I would recommend resetting the unit back to factory default settings. Power the unit on. On the bottom of the unit, there is a pin size hole. Take a paper clip and press the button in the hold for 45 sec. You'll know it reset when the camera starts to pan/tilt. Afterward, try to log in again.
This is "Plug and Play"? You're downloading, extracting, updating, going to websites, installing plug-ins etc etc. That is just ridiculous for a plug and play product.
Yea, I think they're just using a popular term. But if you look at what it use to be, this pear to peer to peer setup is significantly easier to setup then the previous models.
