This video saved me in a pinch. My family was 11 hours into a 15 hour drive, at sunrise the battery light came on. I pulled into an Advance Auto Parts and they had a new alternator in stock, and with their mish mash of tools and this video, I was able to get is back on the road for $150.

Mr. Eslick first time ever commenting or posting on UA-cam. But I just have to say thank you very much for your video. I literally had my Ipad next to me following your instructions on something I've never attempted before. This comes at a time when 2017 has not been kind to me and to be honest I stressed overnight on how I was going to get this fixed. After finding the part at a reasonable price, and with your video, it made a massive difference and I was able to fix it without having to take it to a costly mechanic. Again thank you!

My car died out on the way to the beach with my family today and I figured it was the alternator. I called a couple people I know to get a tow and the price was $417 as it was outside of city limits. My father in law had the idea to fix the issue ourselves before spending that amount of money. Never done this kind of mechanic work other than oil changes and breaks so I looked it up and your video was a lifesaver! Just finished the job about 30 minutes ago actually! YOU are a lifesaver. Thank you for saving me $400+ brother, thank you very much!! God bless you

I can't thank you enough for sharing that trick to get that bushing out of the way. Midnight, in a parking lot, flashlight dying, and there's NO chance that alternator was going to swing up into that bracket without pressing that bushing out. I never would have thought of using a socket and bolt. THANK YOU!! You saved my ass.

Ive been working on cars myself now for probably 3 years. In that time ive rebuild and regeared a 10 bolt chevy rear, dropped and rebuilt my 84 700r4, and im in the process of ripping that back out and manual swapping my 86 monte carlo ss with a 94 lt t56 6 speed and building a 72 350 into a 383 stroker, as well as looked up countless how to's on bodywork. This is one of the best how to videos ive ever seen, and ive seen hundreds. Thank you man

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Just switched out my '98 4Runner's alternator-looks to be an original (or at least a Denso certified Toyota product) at 280,000. Easy fix, clear instruction, and saved me some major $$$. I appreciate your effort and clarity. The only minor bugaboo (which had nothing to do with your video) was that pesky bushing, but I eventually used a small clamp pressing a 10mm socket wrench to nudge it over.

Thanks for this! Simple and straightforward. Only thing I’d add is removing the battery entirely; 30 extra seconds of work and it’ll give you a lot more working space for gettting in there.

I have a 2002 Toyota 4Runner. My alternator blew while I was driving. When the battery died , I was stranded in a Kroger parking lot. I got a man to hook his car up to mine with battery cables and got enough of a charge to get home.
I watched this video the night before I started the replacement.
    Everything was so easy.
I had to use the bolt and socket trick also.
I got everything reinstalled, charged my battery with a neighbor’s battery charger, and I am back to riding.
    Thank goodness for this video.
It saved me money and hours of frustration.

After looking for online help and reviewing several terrible videos, I ran into one this and it was exactly what I needed to make the replacement with full confidence that I had the right steps and tools. One thing I did read or hear elsewhere was that the mounting bolts should be tightened to 16 lbs. with a torque wrench.

WOW, this video was perfect! I replaced my alternator within an hour (and I have never done any car work heavier than an oil change) and this video was essential! Especially the part about driving back the spacer holding the alternator in place. Aloha,
The alternator on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma (280k miles) finally gave out and your video was SPOT ON for the replacement. I opted to lube up the electrical connection plug for a day and I was rewarded with it coming off with just a little wiggling. I also opted to take the battery completely out get more light and more room in the engine compartment. Additionally I did have to press that upper bolt spacer out of the way but other than that it was piece of cake. Thanks for the excellent tutorial!

Just for those that aren't really thinking that the socket trick to move that bushing isn't important. It is. I ended up beating it into place because I didn't have the bolt or nut at my house. It really is a pain to get that thing back in because of that stupid bushing. So listen to this guy and do what he says and it will make your life a lot easier. Thank you for the video
