My 2000 Toyota 4runner factory service manual actually instructs to depressurize the fuel system by pulling the electrical connection to the fuel pump that you mention briefly and running the engine until it stalls. The engine doesn't actually start when you do this but I think it does help de-pressurize the fuel lines. It's not just the mess of gas spilling out that is a concern but lines under pressure are harder to break free. At first I didn't think removing the gas cap would help that much to also take pressure off the system but it actually does. I learned this when dropping the fuel tank on a 3rd Gen 4runner. I'm curious what manual you're using that says just wrap a rag around the fuel line when disconnecting them from the fuel filter? Anyway, welcome to the 3rd Gen 4runner club. I like your channel and I think you're going to gain quite a following over time. I watched that interview about your history and was impressed with what I learned about you. You're following your dreams and you're quite the entrepreneur. Good luck with your channel, your automotive repair business and your All Girls Garage Show. Sincerely, Timmy the Toolman

I still drive a battle-tested 1998 4Runner here in the mountains of Colorado. It's awesome when a semi-intimidating repair is explained so clearly. Great video, very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to make it.

3:28 : Pre-tightening the clamp of the fuel filter using grip pliers makes it so much easier to tighten the screw... 😲
Learning these little tricks is one of the reasons why I love watching repair videos (even as I'm no mechanic, just a diy'er).

Before I started buying new cars, I had to do lots of my own maintenance. My older son recently had to change out his anti lock braking system manifold (not sure if that is what is called). He had to download software on a computer to get all the air out when bleeding the system. I was impressed that he takes responsibility for car maintenance to such an extent. Thank you for sharing your car repair videos. I enjoy watching people fix things.

FYI...in 1998 my Toyota dealer...AND the SE Toyota regional rep told me that the fuel filter on my 1995 T100 was a “non serviceable part”. This, after the fuel lines had to be destroyed getting the original off and I wanted THEM to pay for the new ones. The factory had apparently WAY OVERTIGHTENED the connections. Last year I changed it again. NO problems...except for the drips😀. Great video! It shouldn’t be a problem😅. 290,000 miles and running good!

I have a '98 4Runner now that I bought in December 2022, but also had an '88 Jeep Cherokee whose fuel filter was fairly easy to get to (it was right above the rear axle). The method of replacement is very similar. On the Jeeps, you could depressurize the system by pressing down on a valve by the pressure regulator.

Just replaced my fuel filter today on my 97 4runner. My filter change didn't go as easy as your's, There was more cussing and a few eye full's of dirt in the proccess. I did get it done but man those fuel lines were a pain to get lined up, I usually fight with those type of fittings and I did notice the mounting bracket on my 97 had a welded nut on the casing that holds the filter so I just pulled the bracket and that made getting it loose a breeze. Thanks for the great video!

I honestly haven’t had a chance to check. It’s. 2001 2WD Sport Edition (I think) and I recently got it. The previous owner had some kind of pipe contraption installed so he didn’t need to get catalytic converters (This is all in CA by the way) and I’ve had this mechanic installing the catalytic converter, then the knock or nox sensors had to be replaced…twice. Now he’s saying the fuel filter should get replaced in the semi near future because it takes a second or two for the engine to start when the keys are turned to ignition. I don’t want to ruin my baby. What are your thoughts oh 4Runner Wizard?

You know what....I found that watching a how to video made by a female to do a repair on my 2000 4runner SR5 V6 was way easier to understand than almost any other how to video I’ve watched that was done by a dude. That’s just the truth. Here’s the difference.....Faye was direct and to the point....and showed the repair very simply from start to finish.....without adding in a bunch of chitchat about stuff I don’t fucking care about right in the middle of one of the steps......which does nothing but complicate the entire repair and make it more difficult to follow and understand. Faye....you made a simple yet precise and easy to follow how to repair video and I appreciate that. For some reason I not only find that helpful....but also incredibly sexy....and now I don’t know if I want to change my fuel filter or have sexy time. 🤔 Decisions decisions. Anyway thanks.! 😁👍🏼💪🏼
P.S. I hope nothing I said offends you. I am sincerely just being honest about what I thought.....and attempting to be slightly cute/hilarious at the same time.....that’s all. Whether I accomplished that remains to be seen. 😁 Anyway thanks Faye..!!
