My 2000 Toyota 4runner factory service manual actually instructs to depressurize the fuel system by pulling the electrical connection to the fuel pump that you mention briefly and running the engine until it stalls. The engine doesn't actually start when you do this but I think it does help de-pressurize the fuel lines. It's not just the mess of gas spilling out that is a concern but lines under pressure are harder to break free. At first I didn't think removing the gas cap would help that much to also take pressure off the system but it actually does. I learned this when dropping the fuel tank on a 3rd Gen 4runner. I'm curious what manual you're using that says just wrap a rag around the fuel line when disconnecting them from the fuel filter? Anyway, welcome to the 3rd Gen 4runner club. I like your channel and I think you're going to gain quite a following over time. I watched that interview about your history and was impressed with what I learned about you. You're following your dreams and you're quite the entrepreneur. Good luck with your channel, your automotive repair business and your All Girls Garage Show. Sincerely, Timmy the Toolman
Timmayyyy 🤙🏼
Awesome
I love how clear and descriptive you are with your repair! I can also clearly see what you are removing and re-installling from the tools, to the cleaning process! this is an EXCELLENT instructional video. I will highly recommend you to people that ask me HOW-TO automotive questions. Keep it up girl! you are doing great!
PLEASE keep making the 4Runner videos!!! You have thousands and thousands of people that subscribed to your Channel just because you were so very helpful and detailed about making the Toyota 4Runner videos. Thank you so much for everything and cannot wait to see your next 4Runner video.
I still drive a battle-tested 1998 4Runner here in the mountains of Colorado. It's awesome when a semi-intimidating repair is explained so clearly. Great video, very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to make it.
3:28 : Pre-tightening the clamp of the fuel filter using grip pliers makes it so much easier to tighten the screw... 😲
Learning these little tricks is one of the reasons why I love watching repair videos (even as I'm no mechanic, just a diy'er).
#1 Toyota technician on you tube.
Excellent video. The audio is so clear and your descriptions of what you are showing in the video is spot on. Keep up the great work. I have 280k miles on my 99 4Runner and it's still going strong.
That's freaking awesome!!! I'm aaaaaalmost at 310k!!
Before I started buying new cars, I had to do lots of my own maintenance. My older son recently had to change out his anti lock braking system manifold (not sure if that is what is called). He had to download software on a computer to get all the air out when bleeding the system. I was impressed that he takes responsibility for car maintenance to such an extent. Thank you for sharing your car repair videos. I enjoy watching people fix things.
Yes please keep making videos the world needs al the teaching it can get
Just picked up a filter yesterday and found this video today! The video is well shot and well explained with professional level advice. Thank you!
FYI...in 1998 my Toyota dealer...AND the SE Toyota regional rep told me that the fuel filter on my 1995 T100 was a “non serviceable part”. This, after the fuel lines had to be destroyed getting the original off and I wanted THEM to pay for the new ones. The factory had apparently WAY OVERTIGHTENED the connections. Last year I changed it again. NO problems...except for the drips😀. Great video! It shouldn’t be a problem😅. 290,000 miles and running good!
I have a '98 4Runner now that I bought in December 2022, but also had an '88 Jeep Cherokee whose fuel filter was fairly easy to get to (it was right above the rear axle). The method of replacement is very similar. On the Jeeps, you could depressurize the system by pressing down on a valve by the pressure regulator.
Started working on cars 1962 first year of vo-tech high school I'm impressed by this young lady and enjoy her videos.
I have a running project 3rd Gen 4runner. It has all kinds of issues. Your videos are very helpful and well edited making it easy to understand.
I'm so glad that you enjoy them thank you for the feedback!!!
Watched her on Sunday and she blessed us with a Monday video nice....
I'm glad I found your channel jeez what a turn on and you drive a 3rd gen!? Lord have mercy
Good Stuff Faye, Toyota's are so easy to work on, and you make it look even easier. Thanks for the great and informative video!!
At least the old school trucks, I wouldn't say that about modern toyotass with all the electronics crap.
Great instructions! 4runner running better than ever!. Just disconnected the battery like she said and used a rag. I barely leaked any gas. Thank you faye
This helped . Made it look easy.
Awesome, thank you!
Nice video with nice music .
Thanks for not making it with Heavy Metal blaring throughout it like so many others do .
Very helpfully, I watched the video on my phone under the 4runner and got it done.
years spent wrenching, and never once, did it occur to use vice grips to hold somethnig together while i tighten a nut. earned a sub here
I appreciate your sub, thank you!!
And they say you cant teach an old dog new tricks!
I hate changing my 2003 Tacoma filter. The lines are all bracketed to the truck and frame and barely move at all. You have to pull them out of the filter with basically no free play, while gas is running down your arm. Fun job!
I have the same exact model and you helped me change my radiator and I'm about to do this too, thanks for a great channel and video
Very nice job Faye very clean very efficient very professional keep up the good work lady.
I love it when you are reaching up, you crack the line open and the fuel makes it all the way to your armpit. Guess I'm not quick enough. 😂😂 thanks for the video.
Thanks for the info and for not allowing the bombardment of ads!
Just replaced my fuel filter today on my 97 4runner. My filter change didn't go as easy as your's, There was more cussing and a few eye full's of dirt in the proccess. I did get it done but man those fuel lines were a pain to get lined up, I usually fight with those type of fittings and I did notice the mounting bracket on my 97 had a welded nut on the casing that holds the filter so I just pulled the bracket and that made getting it loose a breeze. Thanks for the great video!
Sorry to hear that it fought you every step of the way, but doesn't it feel good to get it done now?!!!
@@FayeHadley It does feel good to have it done, I will probably change it again after a few tanks of gas as this seems to have helped resolve my cold start issues. Thank you for the reply and keep up the great video's.
Very clear and obvious. You dont skip any steps. Thank you.
Of course! Glad you liked it!
Fixing my clunker one video at a time, thank you!
Great 👍 job as usual. Good old reliable Toyota
Thanks for not forgetting the 🐔! There awesome! Happy holidays Faye!
Thanks clear explanation. I change a filter 0n 1996 toyota Las year you are professional tutorials.
Hella useful - best videos I've found so far! Working on a air-fuel mixture ratio problem with my 2000 4runner. Replaced fuel pump & filter, charcoal canister, next up is 02 sensors.
Would be rad if you can do 02 sensor change video next!
Grim Repo is great looking 4Runner. Looks fantastic in white too. Great video as always.
Nice to see our air blow gun in action! As always, GREAT JOB!
Awesome! Thank you. Mine is having a hard time starting. I'm going to start with the spark plugs. The fuel filter will be next.
Thank you for your content! I love working on my third-gen and I always check with you first!
Great video. Looks like the brake cleaner took off some paint. I know it won't cause issues, others may question. You are amazing. Thank you
It's a cheap filter from O'Reilly's 🤣👍🏻
thanks for the video, now I can change my fuel filter on my 4runner.
Love the music selection for this one. It’s “Chill Day” by Lakey Inspired.
It is!!!! Love it so much too ❤️ link is in the description 👍🏻
A very overlooked service. I did this on our trusty 2001 Tundra. Thanks for the video Faye.
I know u have a money making college degree! Backing u! This tells me how much of a passion u have for mechanics! Luv u faye!
Faye, you make the most awesome video. Very clean when you are doing the maintenance repairs, which is very important. Thank you
Thank you! Just got a 4runner and all your videos are a great help!
Dang, my mechanic made the fuel filter replacement seem like a big deal. Might’ve been smoke he was blowing up my bum. Thanks for the perspective.
Haha well maybe it was a big deal if it was rusty??
I honestly haven’t had a chance to check. It’s. 2001 2WD Sport Edition (I think) and I recently got it. The previous owner had some kind of pipe contraption installed so he didn’t need to get catalytic converters (This is all in CA by the way) and I’ve had this mechanic installing the catalytic converter, then the knock or nox sensors had to be replaced…twice. Now he’s saying the fuel filter should get replaced in the semi near future because it takes a second or two for the engine to start when the keys are turned to ignition. I don’t want to ruin my baby. What are your thoughts oh 4Runner Wizard?
Also I just checked it. Not rusty at all.
I had to watch it twice. Oh, the description was perfect the first time.....
Helpful video - changed the fuel filter in my '01 SR5 2WD this morning. I did have to run out and get a deep 10mm socket, but otherwise easy peasy. My truck has 142K miles and I did see some black fuel run out of the filter once removed.
Love your videos!! Thank you. I just bought a 1997 Prado 3.4 V6 and have watched a few of your vids. Cheers
By all means keep making videos! Your adorable competence is engaging and inspiring.
I have a 2000 4Runner that my son works on. He sent me your video and asked if he could replace my fuel filter. If that doesn’t speak volumes about how effective your demos are then I dunno what could be better!
Kaki
Keep up the good work enjoying your videos.
You know what....I found that watching a how to video made by a female to do a repair on my 2000 4runner SR5 V6 was way easier to understand than almost any other how to video I’ve watched that was done by a dude. That’s just the truth. Here’s the difference.....Faye was direct and to the point....and showed the repair very simply from start to finish.....without adding in a bunch of chitchat about stuff I don’t fucking care about right in the middle of one of the steps......which does nothing but complicate the entire repair and make it more difficult to follow and understand. Faye....you made a simple yet precise and easy to follow how to repair video and I appreciate that. For some reason I not only find that helpful....but also incredibly sexy....and now I don’t know if I want to change my fuel filter or have sexy time. 🤔 Decisions decisions. Anyway thanks.! 😁👍🏼💪🏼
P.S. I hope nothing I said offends you. I am sincerely just being honest about what I thought.....and attempting to be slightly cute/hilarious at the same time.....that’s all. Whether I accomplished that remains to be seen. 😁 Anyway thanks Faye..!!
I enjoy and appreciate the work you're putting in on the Toyotas. I just bought a 2019 Tacoma, I feel that when ever the time comes to do any maintenance I'll be well prepared.
Wow good vid. I like how you kept it simple without a bunch of chatter. Good job
Look how clean that frame is 😍, they don't look like that in the Midwest
Hey Faye. Hopefully one day you can do a video walkthrough on how to replace fuel injectors on a 3rd gen 4Runner.
I can definitely do that!
@@FayeHadley omg yayyy! That would be awesome and epic!
Nothing more refreshing than cold fuel running down into your armpits. Cool video. The more I see smart Toyota engineering the more I want one. You make it look so easy. Now I know what that funny looking wrench is for in my inherited tool collection. Fuel line wrench. Golden chicken-so pretty.
Good to see you again Faye Merry Christmas.
Great explanation Faye, keep them coming :)
Great video, Faye. Really enjoyed the sound track and learned a good tip about writing the date on the replaced filter. And you concluded with the silkies! Love those little guys.
Love your videos ❤
You make it so much easier.
Like how you take your time and explain more than other videos I watch..
Lol plus you speak more clear that guys with cigarettes 🚬 in their mouths 🤣
Awsome video, I have a 99 4runner your right they are easy to work on yourself and it saves a person a ton of money by doing your own repairs now I know how to go about doing the filter thanks again!
Very informative! Dislikes spilled fuel in their eye and couldn't see to click the thumbs up icon.
Great video Faye, finally a girl that loves 4x4s and doesn't do it in a bikini, Respect 👏
BTW: can you place a note under your video info, "5th Gen 4runners don't require fuel filter replacement" as it's built into gas tank.. it would help as lots people confused about this maintenance/service part.
Thanks for sharing this information
Awsum video ez 2 follow along n very educational for da beginerz
Mahaloz 🤙🏽😎🏝
Always love your channel thanks so much for sharing with us
I love your video. It’s the most helpful. The best. Keep making them. It’s so sexy you drive and work on runners!!!
Thank you for such an informative and fun to watch video! I wouldn't have been able to complete this on my 96sr5 4runner without you
AWWW 😅 thank you!!
No thank you! Serious your video was straight to the point with added tips and the vibe was awesome and with all due respect you're super cute 👍
@@leovargas897 🤦♂️
We see you're ratcheting up your video production! Thanks!
If only todays new rides were that easy to change fuel filter
Keep on making videos like this! 😁
Wish fuel filters were still under the hood so they were more accessible! Thanks Faye!
So glad my fuel filter is in my engine bay. That’s a subaru for ya
Awesome job with the details there lady!
Well done video 👍🏽
love your vids on the 4Runner....I have a 98 as well (4x4 w/ manual tranny which I refer to as the 'Homestar 4Runner family wagon'). Your videos are REALLY helpful. I bought more tools....haha.
Love your videos hey I just noticed your on that show All girls garage
Yay new video! Looks like an easy install 👍👍
Love this vid you got straight to the point and was completely on topic. Keep it up please
Dear Ms. Hadley. Thank you so much for your great videos. I have a 1999 Toyota 4 Runner (V6 Automatic 4WD) that I have had since it was new. It sat for the winter (about 8 months). When I tried to start my 4Runner it runs for a fraction of a second and then shuts off. Can you provide some ideas as to where I should start for my trouble shooting.
Norm, did you ever figure out your issue?
Very very nice video I liked it a lot very specific and to the point covered a wide variety of topics in terms of this replacement. THANK YOU
Good job Faye I appreciate your clear descriptive DIY..
Thank you!!!
Thank you for the straight forward, engaging and useful video!!
Everything was perfect. I like to put anti seize on the fittings so next time they don’t get stuck together and also I coat the outside of the fittings and bolts with anti seize. I’m in NJ and we salt everything so badly here that I need to do that so I can get it apart next time.
Always very professional and just like the videos keep doing what you're doing just super GOOD
I love when I get to watch you sn your friends on all girls garage ut my hero I hope I get yaw to work on my truck
Great video I have a? Ran my runner very low on gas now at idle it kinda bubbles but on highway it’s fine maybe fuel filter is dirty yes no
Your voice is the only music required.
Love your videos have a mustang with Cam sanchanizer problem
Thanks for the tip Faye, be safe. Peace. Love the chickens.
Hi, on my 90 Toyota 4runner the fuel filter is located under the hood and I can easily replace it without any tools and within 2 minutes and I don't have to worry about the pressure because the engine is carbureted, Thanks for the video.
Love the video! Very clear and to the point
Yes, please make more videos. I like showing videos of you working on cars to girls because the next g/f must be able to not be afraid to get a little dirty from car repair 😂
Awesome very helpful!
Glad it was!!!!😃
Keep the 4Runner videos coming!
MMM PB Blaster... Smells so good you want to taste it!
Keep up the good work..Your happy in this video..learned something new today from you thank you
Great camera work , love the close ups . I will admit that seeing all that fuel made me nervous .
Great step by step instructions......thanks 👍👍 great video
Excellent video Faye. Love your channel. Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you and your family.
