Crazy, today all lights started pulsing then my transmission stopped shifting leaving me on the side of the road. Turned my truck off then back on and worked again enough to get me home. Got my alternator checked and its a voltage regulator inside. Got a new alt and hope to install it in the morning.
Thank you for this well thought and very thorough explanation of battery vs alternator. My amp has been cutting out for several weeks and today my AC acted up at a stoplight, when I glanced up I saw my voltage was low. My truck stalled 3 blocks later and wouldn’t start. Jumped it and drove 2 miles before it started to stall. Jumped it twice more to make it home. 25 year old ranger I’ve had since new, on its sixth battery and second alternator. Thanks again
This is probably been one of the most useful videos. I have a used 2010 Jeep liberty sport. I have already replaced the battery back in February. For the last week, my car is suddenly dead overnight with no lights on or doors open. I’ve noticed the motor functioning to my window slowing and there are times my lights will dim and adjust while driving. I jumpstarted the vehicle and still having some issues. I am going to try to get my car in somewhere tomorrow. Thankyou again!
I’m glad I watched the whole video, my car stalls after a jump start, I turn my head light and it starts getting weaker and the rpm’s drop. Replacing alternator in a few I’ll reply again if it works
Thanks for sharing this informative video all the 6 signs thats exactly what im experiencing especially the whining noise, the serpentine belt it makes this loud noise especially when it gets wet from the rain . bad alternator indicated that from an reading at auto parts .i think that's why my truck isn't starting up all of an sudden.i had an potential light of battery on my dash board, we'll see hopefully thats all it is is the alternator problem.
come across this video after watching a video on starter motors. We've just changed our starter motor and it's still not starting but now I'm thinking the alternator may also be a problem. The dash lights are flickering and the radio works sometimes but lately mostly not.
This was VERY informal. Thank you for this!! I’m almost 100% sure it is the alternator after watching this! I’m just not sure why the engine wouldn’t turn on. All the lights turn on and you could hear it trying but not nope. Nada. Well, wish me luck! 🕺🏻
UPDATE: I replaced the Alternator and it turned out that it was the issue! Everything is working as it should now! Again, thank you for your help. Chelsea, I wish you the best of luck with your car and get it fixed soon!
Save yourself 100s of dollars and replace the part inside the alternator. Can’t remember the name of the part but the part is only $10 or so and just like that you have a working alternator. I’ve done this already.
@@8020Mediado we know what the name is, today I realized that my battery was not the problem and that it was indeed the alternator. I’m a 18 year old kid and if I can save some money that’d be helpful
Also check the main battery fuse, in my case in my 2002 Hyundai elantra the main 100Amp fuse blew. made the whole thing look like a bad alternator but tested the alternator at the parts store and they said it was still good
Does that include the head lights too, because mine dim down sometimes when my window is rolled all the way up and I click it just to make sure they are closed?
On my 08 Subaru Forester, my car died while i was airing up the tires. Had to charge the battery 5-10 with jumpers and it started up, it made it home but immediately after it wouldnt start. I'm unsure because I'm kind of getting symptoms of both am alternator and battery issue. It wasn't stalling but shifting kinda hard. When it got charged it didnt shift as hard. There were no nasty smells or whining/grinding noise.
I can't get my truck to start. Replaced the starter, battery, ignition switch and checked all fuses and relays. Can the alternator keep it from starting? Thanks
This is a great video.also, some of the comments are very good. thank you for explaining with full details about this. It will help me a lot. God bless you 🙏🏼❤️👍🇺🇸
My ABS light is coming on for a split second and going off, my hand brake light is doing this too. I saw someone else in the comments with the same issue and you replied its probably a faulty wire... however i noticed my left head light flicker, a couple days ago i got a bunch of interference in my radio. Yesterday i had no issues. I paid attention to my voltage while driving yesterday when i had no issues and it was 13.8 - 14.2. Totally normal. This morning i saw my ABS light flash. Immediately noticed my voltage shot up to 14.9 and i believe even 15. I turned around and changed cars to get to work... im getting mixed info when checking to see if 15v is normal. Ive never seen above 14.2 on either of my cars. I do have a tester to check the charging system which i will do today when i get off shift. I hope its not a short somehwere. I do not have the patience to track that down. Fingers crossed for a bad alternator so its a quick easy fix for me. Ive just never seen a alternator die like this if thats what it is. Normally my battery light will come on and I'll see my voltage hit 13v, 12.8 , ect.
@8020Media I assume thats why my voltage shot up to 15 when I normally see 13.8 or 14.1 , will swap out battery today or tomorrow. It's only 1 year old. Claiming that warranty. Hopefully that sorts out everything.
@8020Media took batt. Out..something told me to test it again. Tested perfectly fine. Tf... put it back in. Tested bad. Great.. alternator tested good. This is beyond my skill level now..I assume some sort of short or parasitic Drain. Had to drop my car off at dealership unfortunately.
I love the video thank you I have a question so my belt and my engine makes a lot of noise My car died yesterday for the second time and this man gave me a jump and it started took it to AutoZone and they said that it's everything's okay but it's not okay The car shakes like it's going to die of that belt makes a lot of noise do you think I need to replace the serpentine belt and the alternator at the same time last week the side passenger window was going kind of slow
Hello, in my 2013 Audi A3 sometime the sound system will go up and then sometimes it goes down, lightranges differ a bit , sometimes the sunroof multifunctions
I bought a brand new battery and alternator 2023 september and im getting these symtoms on my 08 Kia sorento. After car stays on for some time, lights start to flicker and start dimming down and i get abs light and esc light on and some times check engine and battery light, read codes and come back as p1295 and p2106 which are related to the throttle body. Do you think its the throttle body or alternator again? I warrantied the battery and same issues now im thinking of taking the alternator to get it tested and warrantied if it comes back as bad.
My power steering pressure hose started leaking and it dripped right over my alternator. Now I'm getting every symptom he just explained and the recent ones I just had was the burning wire smell I thought my car was about to start catching fire
2011 bmw 528i everything it's electric that I didn't know! Battery died so I replaced but the alternator wasn't sending the right voltage and the car was giving me a lot of failure like engine mal function, transmission mal function, abs mal function ac blower too slow etc.... replaced the alternator too and everything went to normal! Hope this help!
The lights on my dash dim when I use the powered window controls and my car jumps in revs on occasion when idle are these possible signs of an alternator issue car(2001 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder)
Good info. I have a situation where my car stalled. I need to do a couple tasks before I'll get an ability to have it fixed, though. I'm wondering what my risks are. First of all, the stall occurred during a traffic jam in a rainstorm when it shut down, running the AC until "battery saver" killed that. So if I'm running on the freeway, is it a reasonable bet I might get to a 20 mile distant location? Especially if I leave the AC off? In other words, might it be somewhat charging at speed? Secondly, I tested the car after the stall. Drove it around a drive, low speed, about 5 minutes. The alternator felt very hot - hotter than anything I could feel on the engine. Does this mean I might be in danger of starting a fire or ruining my belt in a short drive? BTW, the car in question is 17 years old with the original alternator, 115k miles
@@8020Media Thanks. But this was a much more generic video; mine was specifically due to battery/alternator issues. I was mostly trying to address how hot the alternator was. In the interim, I've ordered an alternator and a mechanic in the area will install it.
Very well said bro..New follower from Dubai..I have same issue..I changed The Battery..but still The BATTERY ICON Still showing on My Dash board... Please Help
My serpentine belt keeps getting pulled towards the engine and wearing off the belt. We tried to change the tension pulley but we have a hard time getting the belt back on. What could be the problem? Alternator?
That is exactly the problem my peugeot 207cc has ,all those symptoms are visible, It seized on the way I called a mechanic, he came and jumpstart the car, after 1 day same problem, we bought a new battery and I only drove the car for 40 minutes, it drained the new battery. So I have transported the car to the garage ,after explaining all these to them I told them the car surely has alternator problem.
I got an battery and an alternator tester and it says that my alternator needs to be replaced . I was wondering why my car won't crank up even when people connect their jumping cables on
When I put the key in it will do a click click sound or the engine will turn over but it's not getting its power needed flickering lights kept blinking on before it couldn't cut on
Ive gone through 3 alternators recently. I guess they dont make them like they used to. My car (Camaro Z28) is wired for the electric fans to stay on permanently because of a low temp thermostat. Not anymore. Its been rewired back to factory. Im sure this has caused the regulators to fail.
Tvpc - Great point.. Sorry to hear that you have gone through so many. This certainly isn't normal, there could be something else going on to cause so many failing.
My amp and speakers started making a popping noise, thought it was my usb. The dealership replaced my battery, twice in a year. Now I have a completely dead battery, and bad alternator in my 2020 jeep wrangler. I had heard the whining sound for a while, but always brought it in for maintenance, followed up, and the dealership never caught a thing.
As I was adding oil to my car today, I noticed corrosion on the battery terminals and wiped it off. I noticed the battery is 6 yrs old. The was no noise at this time. Several hours later I started to drive my car. The battery light was on. I drove around the block. It made a noise that I thought was coming from the area of the alternator when I lifted the hood. My radio has been going out a lot lately also. It usually makes a load popping noise before it stops working. Could the old battery damage the alternator? I have limited funds. Could replacing the battery be enough for now? I have a 2010 Honda Accord with 150k miles. Any idea what replacing the alternator might cost?
hi Zach, my 2008 Rav4 has been acting strange and i was wondering if you could tell me whether this could also be related to alternator issues. this is what's happening: when i turn the key in the ignition the engine often starts with a vroom sound that is more high-pitched and sharp than it should be. the most persistent symptom as of the last 4-5 months has been that whenever i'm pulling out of street parking by turning the steering wheel to the left, on its way back to the original position the steering wheel completely sticks for a fraction of a second and all the lights (and AC and/or radio, if on) flicker off and on. it takes a full second or two to be able to steer back but it is initially very stiff. this has been happening with increasing consistency to the point that nowadays we can expect it almost every time we're pulling out of street parking. thankfully it hasn't been an issue while turning when the car has some speed. the dashboard has been faintly flickering ever since we bought the car used last year, so if this is all related the problem has been ongoing for quite some time and only now worsening in a real way. we took the car to a mechanic yesterday and was told that it may be an alternator issue, which according to the mechanic, would cost us around $1k (or more) to repair. but i'm looking for parts today and brand-new alternators for my car model don't cost nearly as much so i'm very confused! we were also told the battery needs to be replaced, even though it's been less than 5 months since the last replacement. i suppose this could all lead to the alternator being the potential culprit. in your opinion, is this mechanic giving us way too high of a quote? we're on a super tight budget, but need the car to run safely too. what do you recommend we do?
P - You can go to your local auto parts store and ask if they can check your battery and alternator. Once they confirm either are bad, you can purchase either on your own and take the part to your mechanic. That way you'll only have to pay labor from them. Keep us updated. Certainly sounds like it could be an alternator issue though.
I have a Pontiac grand prix GT1 from 2004. I've been having power steering issues with the car. today, I replaced the power steering fluid and flushed it out quite a few times. when idling the car, the power steering is fine. However, when I apply brakes when idling, my steering wheel gets really hard to turn for some reason until I release the brakes and start moving. when the car drives, its completely fine. its only when I am idling or going slow, and I press the brakes for example slowing down to turn into a parking space. when I release the brakes, it is still hard to turn until I give it some rpm. I honestly don't know what the issue could be at this point and its why I'm commenting on an alternator video lol. Help would be appreciated. I'm thinking it could be a bad steering pump but idk because it seems to be only during or after brakes are applied at zero or really low speeds. I should also mention it sounds like compressed air or something releases from the vehicle when turning the wheel back and forth. the air is louder and more aggressive when brakes are applied.
If the vehicle is completely dead like nothing turns on till I jump the engine, let it run for awhile. Drive for a bit with no issues but let it sit overnight and have the same issue again in the morning. Is that the battery or alternator?
I have a 2010 Mazda 3 2.5l and I know the battery is not good now but when it was brand new the car would start for like 2 days then just completely drain itself or it would barely start but soon as I turn the wheel the whole car flutters , lights every dash light turns on the wheel locks up… getting snow in Chicago and I can’t get it into my garage 😅
Please give me some insight, I have a 2007 Toyota sienna ce. About a week ago my van was driving just perfectly fine. I went to do an errand and turned off the car . Not even 3 min later I went to turn it back on and nothing. No turn noise all dash lights powered on but car didn’t start. Had someone jump start me and viola it started!! When I arrived home which is about 2 block drive . I turned the van off and welp the car wouldn’t start again 😮. So I noticed now it will allow me to drive it however long I need to drive it as long as I don’t turn the car off. Once it’s off I have to wait a whole day for it to start again. I have an idea what it may be but I don’t want to change it out and spend money on something that isn’t nessary . Please help damsel in distress .
My dash and dome lights flicker when i let off of the gas and brake. Battery is new, starts every time. This didn't start till i got my smog done. What could this be? Also, my dash lights flicker as well. Thank you. Had the alternator checked but they said it was fine. Please help. I appreciate it
I stopped to get propane in my RV (1996 Ford E350). It started again and i drove it about 4 miles and parked for probably 2-3 hours. When I came out, it was dead. No dash lights or anything. I got a jumpstart and drove back to my site and parked so it ran probably 20 minutes. I tried to start it again and no dash lights and totally dead. The alternator is 3 years old. So is the battery (replaced the same week). I charged the battery up from about 11.7 to 12.3 last night. This morning it was back to 12. Is that normal? I haven't tried to start it in quite awhile and there shouldn't be any drain since I am on shore power. I did recently switch my house battery to lithium but I was told that shouldn't make a difference. I rarely have driven this summer.
There's grease in the gas people are having trouble here in s.texas .in my town and there towns happened to my bf they told him not to put gas at circle k .others his truck turned off wouldn't turn on .he changed the filter, but it was his gas tank and I think fuel pump.he found grease in the gas tank.so becareful where u get ur gas
You will have to drop gas tank but first take out the gas and inspect ur gas tank I bet it has grease in it.when u fix it the store might give ur money on fixtures.this is happening lots of ppl with gas messing up their cars
You're basically only talking about the electrical issues of an alternator..... Not the mechanical. If the bearing is going bad then yes, you can have misfire.
2022 Toyota Camry xse Mine was making a whining sound I cut it off turned it back on would come on just clicking then I got battery malfunction light smart key malfunction jump start it it stalled 5 times till I was able to get it close to home and park it I had a new belt put on but he’s saying it’s the alternator and yes I lost power steering everything in the car was flickering till it shut off
Hopefully you can help me. I’ve changed the alternator three times on my 2018 Chevy Colorado and it has straightened my battery three times also, what could this be? Should I trade my truck?
I think my alternator is going out, I haver essentially all the symptoms and my steering will lose power and become super hard to turn, could this also be my alternator not providing enough power aswell.
@ tested my alternator, it actually tested completely fine, had a mechanic friend say he thinks it’s just a simple bad ground or damaged connection between the alternator and battery, and the thing with my power steering, it turns out the PS was bone dry XD. But either way the video helped nonetheless, thank you.
How do you know if it's a problem with the alternator or the body control module? because my car has symptoms of both. My power steering cut out for an entire summer and then randomly started working again. I've also had issues with the key fob not unlocking the door properly. I've also had an issue with the transmission not shifting properly at one point but that was not as frequent. But just earlier today The radio in my car randomly shut off and turned back on again and then shortly after that my car randomly shut off and then immediately started back up again at a red light. My speedometer also started acting funny. Then at one point my car shut completely off and none of the interior electronics was working at all. The light on the dash that tells you when the door is open wouldn't even turn on when I open the door and when I pushed the button to start the car it did absolutely nothing. It was like I didn't even have a battery in my car. But after I disconnected the battery cables cleaned off some corrosion and reconnected them the car started up again so I don't think it was the battery being dead. But then when I started driving it shut off and went completely dead again. And a weird thing is it started back up when I had my dad hook up the jumper cables so I'm not sure which component is the main issue
@@8020Media nope. I figured it out. one of the wires connecting to the positive battery terminal had gotten pinched under the battery and over time the coating wore away and it caused a short
Great video. I subscribed. After watching your video, I checked out my Corolla 2009 battery alternator charging using Topdon ArtiBattery 101 tool. Charging test showed: CHARGING LOW Loaded -13.22V Unloaded - 13.42v Ripple - 10mV Could you advise me if alternator is not working properly, and it is time to replace it with rebuild one. It is original alternator and the mileage on the vehicle is 150 000 miles. I will appreciate your help.
@8020Media There are no issues with battery performance. Test shows that Battery is good, cranking is good, but Alternator charging is low, and before it was good too. Any advise?
Hi , Am facing like if I am taking a long trip there is no issue, but if there is lot of traffic nd car is moving around 20-40 km/h for more than half an hour, then iam facing the flickering issue. I faced this same issue for the second time. So i turned off engine and started again after 5 minutes, no issue at all. So the problem is when car moving slowy for too much time this is happening. Also some days I face the little bit starting trouble. Is it battery or altenator?!
I monitored control module voltage with a BlueDriver scan tool and I noticed the voltage range shown as 0.07V to 58V! I have not seen these values as they must happen very briefly but they show in the range. Does this sound like a bad voltage regulator in the alternator?
Does a alternator and fuel pump have any relation whatsoever? Because for a little while now I’ve had trouble starting the car within 5-20 minutes of turning it off, but if it’s longer than that it starts no problem. Thought it was fuel pump at first but I had my alternator tested and it said it wasn’t good. Now, my brake, battery, and ABS light come on intermittently. I do hear a slight whine noise when I turn the vehicle, and when I popped the hood I did smell sort of a burning/hot smell. No overheating however or rpm’s going crazy or anything.
I have a 79 Lincoln Mark V. It died on the road today as a result of a failing alternator. Would it be a bad idea to install an alternator that's More powerful than the factory. 60 to 70 amp alternator? I was Thinking 100 amps. I have an aftermarket sound system with an 800 w amplifier that powers two, 12-in subs (So it's nothing crazy). I've heard that oversizing an alternator could fry the battery cells, but at the same time I don't want to be stranded again as it was not very fun today. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Hey I have a 79 Lincoln Continental and had the same issue it would should off on my all of sudden got a new battery but still don’t crank over to start now what did you do do yours ?
@@8020Media Yes - 2 mechanics. They told me that the alternator is shot. Even as I was testing the alternator myself while the car was running (after boosting), the voltage of the battery was declining instead of charging, or hovering around a constant voltage as it should. The battery is 7 days old. I was told that the best way to deal with this, would be to use an alternator with bigger amperage, as the aftermarket sound system is drawing significantly more than with the current alternator is designed for, and to use something as a buffer (such as a capacitor, a battery equivalent to the one running the car, or a gel battery). Essentially, the alternator was not keeping up with the draw of the aftermarket sound system, so then it became overworked and ended up failing. Contrary to what many people believe, a 100 amp alternator that replaces a factory 60 amp alternator will not fry battery cells. If we were to throw in a 300+ amp alternator that is meant to run competition sound systems, then it would affect the battery. Since we're going from a 60 amp or 70 amp to a 100 amp, the difference is not enough to warrant such concerns. Hope this helps.
would an alternator that’s starting to go out cause my emergency brake and ABS lights to flash? or is that more along the lines of a loose wire or a bad sensor?
I’m probably the worst car owner ever 😂lol. Literally had ALL these issues with my vehicle and chopped it up to a bolt not being tight enough for 3 years (I drive this car only in winter.) and the car finally died on me on the freeway lol. Thankfully I have other cars I take care of but I was about to just junk this one. Good to know it’s just the alternator. Might just fix it and keep it until I run it into the ground again.
on my 2003 my alternator gauge is registering high it went over 19 ,, and i removed the positive cable and waited a few minutes and it came back down,, but still crawls up to 19.. it neve went to zero.. what is your advise ?? thanks,, also dash lights are not working
It's tough to say with the limited information. If the dash and dash lights are having issues it could potentially be a problem with the gauge and reading itself.
Hi, I have a problem where when I put my car into park when I get home all the dash lights and stereo go off for a quick second and come back on again. I've only noticed it at night. The battery terminals are all clean. Could this be the alternator? The car starts pretty well and has no problem turning over. Thanks!
@@8020Media Ok. Thanks for your help! I have a mechanic's appointment in a week at soonest. Do you think this sounds like an issue that needs quicker attention?
@@8020Media Yes, even though the positive terminal lead seemed tight, it actually wasn't. It was loose enough to where it was causing enough movement to cause that momentary glitch. Mechanic put a new terminal lead on and it seems fine now. Thanks!
S - Check your power steering fluid and make sure there aren't any leaks. If not, it certainly could be your alternator. Can check the voltage of it to confirm or take it to a local auto store for them to check your battery/alternator.
I just changed my alternator but when i was gonna turn on my car all the lights where on like if the car was was on i can see my miles and everything with out the key ignition , once i did turn it on i rollerd my passenger window down a lil bit after i cut it off and cut it back on i had nothing no dash no radio no windows , what you think possibly happend
Yes that actually how it died down i was driving it back from shop and it started sturdering and bogin out before completely turing off my battery completely went out , im thinking they didnt connect the alternator correct or the pig tails cause the back conector to altanator had broke so we had to connect a new one
When I turn on climate control I get charging system failure then goes to battery saver mode and I would have to get a jump the next time I try to start the vehicle. I'm not sure if that is also an alternator issue

So can alternator problem affect or damage computer box without damaging fuses?

@8020Media I put my tester on my battery. It's dead dead. Charged but 13% health
@8020Media I assume thats why my voltage shot up to 15 when I normally see 13.8 or 14.1 , will swap out battery today or tomorrow. It's only 1 year old. Claiming that warranty. Hopefully that sorts out everything.

I bought a brand new battery and alternator 2023 september and im getting these symtoms on my 08 Kia sorento. The lights on my dash dim when I use the powered window controls and my car jumps in revs on occasion when idle are these possible signs of an alternator issue car(2001 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder)
A - Indeed!

N - Sure sounds like it to us!
U - Certainly sounds like an alternator issue because it can cause your battery to go bad. Sorry to hear about this.
K - Yes, a bad battery can certainly affect the alternator. You're looking at around $700 for a new alternator would be our guess.

hi Zach, my 2008 Rav4 has been acting strange and i was wondering if you could tell me whether this could also be related to alternator issues. this is what's happening:
when i turn the key in the ignition the engine often starts with a vroom sound that is more high-pitched and sharp than it should be. the most persistent symptom as of the last 4-5 months has been that whenever i'm pulling out of street parking by turning the steering wheel to the left, on its way back to the original position the steering wheel completely sticks for a fraction of a second and all the lights (and AC and/or radio, if on) flicker off and on. it takes a full second or two to be able to steer back but it is initially very stiff. this has been happening with increasing consistency to the point that nowadays we can expect it almost every time we're pulling out of street parking. thankfully it hasn't been an issue while turning when the car has some speed. the dashboard has been faintly flickering ever since we bought the car used last year, so if this is all related the problem has been ongoing for quite some time and only now worsening in a real way. we took the car to a mechanic yesterday and was told that it may be an alternator issue, which according to the mechanic, would cost us around $1k (or more) to repair. but i'm looking for parts today and brand-new alternators for my car model don't cost nearly as much so i'm very confused! we were also told the battery needs to be replaced, even though it's been less than 5 months since the last replacement. i suppose this could all lead to the alternator being the potential culprit.
in your opinion, is this mechanic giving us way too high of a quote? we're on a super tight budget, but need the car to run safely too. what do you recommend we do?
P - You can go to your local auto parts store and ask if they can check your battery and alternator. Once they confirm either are bad, you can purchase either on your own and take the part to your mechanic. That way you'll only have to pay labor from them. Keep us updated. Certainly sounds like it could be an alternator issue though.
Really good explainer
D - Thanks for the feedback! We hope it was helpful.
Are there still shops that will rebuild alternators?
R - There are, but not as common.
My 270cdi lights are flickering, and wipers moving without me put them on. This will continue until the engines goes off on its own. What should I do
I - Sounds like it could be an alternator on its way out.
K - Certainly seems like something is wrong with the power steering system. Have you taken it in to a shop or are you just trying to self-diagnose?

@@juliancar2 100 amp alternator+a capacitor for the amp
& subs
R - Have you taken it to a mechanic?

Thankfully I have other cars I take care of but I was about to just junk this one. Good to know it’s just the alternator. Might just fix it and keep it until I run it into the ground again.
Cass - Keep us updated on this! We hope the video helps.
lol I’ve done that before
Chalked it up..not chopped.
@@nathanguentzel9292 thank you Mr. Grammar nazi. Glad you have nothing better to do than spellcheck UA-cam comments. You must be so fun to be around!
on my 2003 my alternator gauge is registering high it went over 19 ,, and i removed the positive cable and waited a few minutes and it came back down,, but still crawls up to 19.. it neve went to zero.. what is your advise ?? thanks,, also dash lights are not working
It's tough to say with the limited information. If the dash and dash lights are having issues it could potentially be a problem with the gauge and reading itself.
Thank You 🙏🏾

Hi, I have a problem where when I put my car into park when I get home all the dash lights and stereo go off for a quick second and come back on again. I've only noticed it at night. The battery terminals are all clean. Could this be the alternator? The car starts pretty well and has no problem turning over. Thanks!
B - Yes, this could certainly be an alternator issue.
@@8020Media Ok. Thanks for your help! I have a mechanic's appointment in a week at soonest. Do you think this sounds like an issue that needs quicker attention?
Any update here?
@@8020Media Yes, even though the positive terminal lead seemed tight, it actually wasn't. It was loose enough to where it was causing enough movement to cause that momentary glitch. Mechanic put a new terminal lead on and it seems fine now. Thanks!
B - Nice! Thanks for coming back and sharing your experience. This will certainly help future viewers.
So I started my truck this morning and it's not getting any extra volts it started but volts stayed at 11.
B - Something may be on its way out.
Can it affect the electronic steering wheel on 2012 VW cc?
S - Certainly possible.
@8020Media after I jump-started my 2012 VWcc with semi truck, the steering wheel becomes stiff. I am wondering if it's an altinator problem.
S - Check your power steering fluid and make sure there aren't any leaks. If not, it certainly could be your alternator. Can check the voltage of it to confirm or take it to a local auto store for them to check your battery/alternator.
@@8020Media its electronic
Thanks so much great video!!!!
S - Thanks for the feedback! Hope it was helpful.
A - When was the last time your battery was replaced?
1 year ago it was replaced boss .
A - Hmm. Our guess would be the battery, but it shouldn't lose it's charge that soon. Have you taken it to a mechanic?
Yes that actually how it died down i was driving it back from shop and it started sturdering and bogin out before completely turing off my battery completely went out , im thinking they didnt connect the alternator correct or the pig tails cause the back conector to altanator had broke so we had to connect a new one
A - Sorry to hear about this. Keep us updated!
What is/are the main causes why alternators fail?
J - Belt failure, wiring issues, bad battery, bad fuse, normal wear and tear, overheating, oil/coolant leaking onto it. To say a few.
im wondering can an altenator cause parasitic drain ?
P - It's certainly possible.
When I turn on climate control I get charging system failure then goes to battery saver mode and I would have to get a jump the next time I try to start the vehicle. I'm not sure if that is also an alternator issue
K - It could be either the alternator or battery. Have you gotten your battery tested?
