We Brook fans are suffering in silence. Glad someone finally spoke up.
On the previous video before being taken down there were ppl confused about the reveal that Uta knew all along and i think it actually makes sense with everything the movie's been presenting to us
I also recommend rewatching the movie once you have the full picture
First of all, the chronology of events must be put in the RIGHT ORDER
12 years ago
Shanks, Uta and the Red haired pirates are a pirate family. She cares about them, and they care about her.
So much so that they want to keep her from growing up chased by the navy, and be a singer.
But Uta doesn't want to separate with them and Shanks accepted that
But in Elegia when Tot Musica came into contact with Uta and the country was destroyed
The navy coming back and Elegia being the "ideal" country for Uta,
They left her here for her sake
BUT When she wakes up, Uta is tricked by Gordon under Shanks' Instructions to stay
Reminder that Elegia is NOT Uta's country, She has no ties with it
From her pt of view
She now lives on an island where all the inhabitants are dead except Gordon
Her family, home abandoned her
And finally she was pushed to improve her talent
Idk but for me it's as if Luffy was abandoned by his crew and now had to realize his dream alone
She had lost taste for life
And this for 10 years
Before discovering the Den Den Mushis of the SSG
From then on she started to spread her songs to people and it brought her joy
But at the same time she saw the suffering in the world
And more and more people were asking for her help
She had already started for a year before she finally discovered the truth
11 years later
That Shanks was not responsible
That Gordon was somehow avoiding his responsibilities as leader of Elegia, calling him a coward not supporting her plan etc, and essentially for lying to her
And that she lived on an island where SHE was responsible for the massacre of the inhabitants.
Now that we know all that, my question is what difference does it make that she knew
All right, Shanks is not responsible
I agree
But that's 11 LONG YEARS OF SOLITUDE
Not once did he reappear in her life (to protect her, of course) but UTA considered them family. And they just...disappeared
Therein lies UTA's hatred for Shanks
The abandonment
Not the destruction of Elegia
And added to that the fact that she sees the world being ravaged by pirates
Shanks or not
She had to go on and finish what she started
Create her dream world for the victims
Not once in the movie she tells us she hates him for destroying Elegia
She hates him for abandoning her and that's her answer to Luffy
She has reasons to hate pirates too seeing their damages
So she puts Shanks in that same category but at the same he's her father so it's complicated and not just black and white
Obviously her plan was full of delusions but AFTER a rewatch
I don't see things the same way anymore
In fact I am quite happy with this twist because from the beginning of the movie
We tell ourselves
''There is an explanation
She probably doesn't know the whole story''
But she KNEW
She endorsed that truth and had to keep up with the promise of a better future
A 'messiah'
And it's much better (obviously it's my opinion) than being in the wrong just because she DIDN'T know
Ignorance would have been too easy of an excuse for what she was gonna do
After failing she gave up saving her life by drinking the sleeping cure
And had to save the innocents who were more and more in danger
So she had to stay awake and ended up sacrificing herself, taking the consequences of her own actions💔
I agree I loved the movie but I did have one small problem that really hurts my enjoyment of the movie. The first 2 acts are all a musical with each musical number being edited to be a music video, except the final fight which ditches the editing style and just turns into a normal anime. If the final fight had that same editing style, with maybe Uta preforming a song to calm down/distract Tot Musica it would have been a 9.5 or 10 for me. As it stands now it’s probably a solid 8 or soft 9.
I highly doubt Ado had any say in whether or not Brook and Uta got a duet. Considering how she only got a contract with a studio post RED.
I must once again re-affirm the righteousness of the Brook rant, it is valid and you were right to say it!
I really like this video, well done man👌
I know this video is oldish, but Film Red is so close to my heart that i couldn't help but see your thoughts after seeing some of your bad opinion videos. Film Red really worked for me because I found that Uta really humanizes Shanks in a way that I don't think we've gotten to see in years. He's spent so long in the background that him having a daughter - one that he has a lot of baggage with no less - really makes Shanks feel more grounded. He's developed this otherworldly sort of status that makes him feel almost inhumanly powerful due to his legendary status and the hype that the manga is giving him. I liked seeing a softer side of him, one that feels much more vulnerable and flawed.
I do disagree with the notion that ALL the movie characters feel like fanfiction. Shiki and Uta specifically don't really feel like that because of where their place in the canon is. Uta specifically works because of her origin being from Luffy's past. We get this information FROM Luffy's perspective usually, and characters like Ace, Garp, and Sabo were all brought up in a similar fashion, all because Luffy just never thought to say anything cuz it wasn't important, just like in Film Red. She's just one more to add to the list.
Additionally, I think I got really attached to Film Red cuz the anime at the time (Me and my roommate were watching together) was stuck in Onigashima and all its terrible battle focused pacing, and Film Red reminded me why I really loved One Piece, which is that it's the perfect blend of fun adventure and heart wrenching drama that'll make you cry. One Piece has heart, and Film Red really reminded me of that.
Last thing I'll mention is that I'm glad you clarified that while Uta is the antagonist of the movie, she's not a bad person. Maybe it's just cuz I've had bad luck in where I search, but I find that a lot of people in the community, (specifically powerscalers and other people obsessed with the more battle shonen aspects of OP) tend to dislike or outright hate Uta, and it's usually for extremely petty reasons, or their reasoning completely misrepresents Uta as a character. I mean, I'm bias as hell, cuz personally she's my favorite character in the whole franchise, so maybe they see something I don't, but I just find it refreshing to see a more evenhanded and positive review of the movie, and Uta as a character.
PS. Idk if it was a joke i wasn't picking up on, but I think I'd find it weird if they decided to jam an Uta and Brook duet in there, cuz even Luffy is arguably only the secondary main character to Uta in the movie, with the rest of the crew running support.
Great vid!
I cried at end of Film Red; it was incredible. Kizaru was wrong speed isn't power. MUSIC IS POWER~!!!
Love this video but I have a sliiight issue: Luffy is not her Brother, his father is Dragon.
well brook is like 90+ years old so him singing with young uta would never work xd
Better audio quality even though I still have go full volume to understand you . Still good video analysis
Nice music taste, man.
I'm a non-cannon elitist so let me dream
nice
how many hours of editing was wasted on the first upload?
deja vu
More one piece arc analysis
You've listened to 38 albums? I've listened to more than 380. We are not the same
Upload more I get that the people that have sense have real life jobs but these money hungry used sign salesman gotta get taking down .
uta a q2
(putting my comment again then i guess)
Love the video
And i pretty much agree with all of it
The musical aspect of the story being turned into a whole movie while giving us more regarding Shanks Luffy and Uta's interesting Character made Red probably my most enjoyable One Piece movie
I love her character and her whole development to this point (btw I REALLY recommend ppl to read Uta's chronicle, it's available online just search it on Google)
Regarding Brook i do agree it's a shame we didn't get anything from him in the movie
I like to believe Oda just held back from showing too much regarding him and his skills until the manga does
But a song would have been welcomed
I like that Bink's sake is a bonus song, wish it was included but at the same time i can't see where it could fit perfectly without feeling it off place
Even Uta's last words would feel too cheap imo
Lastly, the end credit songs, Where the wind blows, perfect choice because it encapsulates with precision what inherited will is about
And the MV for the song reiterates that concept
The white haires little girl learning from her red haired friend, how to tie her hair, and play piano which she did at the end of the mv
And it fits well with the ending about Uta's death
As a watcher we know she's dead(the coffin) but it's still left with a bit of ambiguity cause it's not outly said
Which is the point cause she's not really deaad if ppl still remember her through her music
Her voice will go as far as the wind can take it
And seeing everyone in the end credits listening to her just confirms that she'll never die as long as she's not forgotten
im afraid i disagree. although i think the plot of the story is good, i think its ultimately more offensive than not. my biggest gripes are that movies like this dilute future real story events. luffy getting to see koby again after he has grown so much should be a big deal, same with shanks. having a movie exist where they basically brush it off feels so cheap. imo it spits on odas greatest talent as a writer: his long form payoffs. we as reader of the story have been waiting for so many years to see characters get their payoffs, because we know they will be amazing to finally see. i understand your lens of "its just a high budget fanfic so its ok" but to me it spits in my face as a reader. in this regard even stampede is better because we have LITTERALLY been waiting since chapter 1 to see luffy and shanks meet again.
Giving Shanks a daughter is completely stupid. If you're making a movie, you should at least TRY to make it plausible within the canon, even if it's not canon. Doing something as nonsensical as giving one of the (potentially) most important characters in the series a random daughter that has never been even referenced previously is a massive mistake, and it feels like an insult as someone who is invested in the lore and history of this series's characters. With that said, Uta is still a fine character. The plot of the film is good and the writing is handled well, but I just can't enjoy it when the very premise insults me.
