For a second I thought that Oda had him say ‘I’m here for my sister’ referring to Uta and that Kat was actually also Shanks son but then I remember shanks was a baby when big mom was hot.
I agree. I also think it was interesting that Uta's power created a world that moved the souls of people to it, and neither of the characters whose powers revolve around the soul had a big part in the story. Brook definitely needed more focus
One person who I think is really underrated in the film is Koby. He took command and tried to help anyone without actually fighting. Which I’m a little disappointed by.
Disappointed because no one is appreciating that aspect or because he didn't fight much? Also would love to have a flashback to what happened at the Rocky Port incident.
@Audrey M A little of both honestly. The praise he received in the beginning of the movie from the crowd means he came a long in just two years but I also thought he was gonna fight with the Strawhats like Garp with Roger. Although, that might’ve been hoping for too much considering most of Strawhats themselves didn’t do much fighting either 😅
Saw the movie today and I gotta say I’m a bit disappointed we did not get at least some sort of musical showdown, with our beloved Soul king and Uta this was the perfect place for it.
The reason Tot Musica was stopped the first time by Shanks alone was because Uta was still too young and got exhausted too quickly, they even mention that in the movie.
He forgot to mention one of the most epic moments. When Kizaru and Fujitora wanted to kill Uta. The red pirates were outnumbered and surrounded, but still ready to fight whoever tried to hurt Uta. And the moment shanks releases his haki getting both admirals calling it quits ufff
My favorite moment of the entire movie was usopp Co operating with his dad using advanced observation like katakuri and even yassop himself knowing how intelligent and powerful his son is and knowing he has it. The line "usopp has some crazy power if he'd just calm down for once" that had me laughing uncontrollably lol.
One thing I'm surprised you didn't bring up is when Shanks found Uta in the treasure chest he had a flashback of Roger and his crew looking at what I assume is Shanks, looking at him in a similar way. Implying they met in a similar way. Making you wonder what the relationship between Shanks and Roger really is, whether it's just that of crewmates or more of a father and son like one.
I mean, i think it would be safe to assume Shanks (and Buggy too) looked up to Roger and the Roger pirates as parent figures. After all, they joined the crew pretty young, younger than 10 years old probably, and the Rogers were the people they lived with and that took care of them.
Coby was the real MVP of the movie he got everybody out of the music sheet told everyone about her devil fruit and split everyone into teams for the final fight he was the true MVP
This was the first One Piece movie I got to see in theaters and it was amazing. Also the moment where Usopp meets his dad, even though not canon, was one of the best parts
Red is cannon not completely canno but it is cannon. Usopp didn't even meet him though they communicated through advanced observation like katakuri usop has katakuri level observation confirmed lol
My favorite nod was Luffy's longtime obsession with having a Musician as part of the crew can now be explained by his close relationship, and idolization of Uta.
Uta's journey in the movie was incredibly tragic and had me tearing up at the end. She went through so much pain at being abandoned by her father and the guilt of being a vessel of destruction for Tot Musica that she felt she needed to do everything she could for her fans which got utterly twisted by the influence of Tot Musica. In the end she gave her life to make things right and her music continued to inspire people around the world. But in that final moment she was just a daughter who missed her father. GOD JUST REMEMBERING THE RED HAIRED PIRATES SURROUNDING HER COFFIN IS TOO MUCH
@@jakesjacket it's at the very end after the credits, Luffy finally wakes up on the Sunny and he asks where Uta and Shanks are and Zoro says "over there" and we see the Red Force with the Red-Haired Pirates surrounding a coffin
The 2 best moments of the movie are Ussop asking "who's idea was it to blow up the library?" and Franky replies 'I'm SUPER sorry" and Luffy asking why Law was there and he replied "I'm a chaperone." Not sure if these were in the Japanese versions, I saw the dub, no matter what anyone tells me, Patrick Seitz as Franky and Matthew Mercer as Law will always be amazing.
You mentioned not knowing when Uta ate her devil fruit. I think they were trying to imply in the film that she ate it as a baby which was why red hair pirates found her in a treasure chest. Also why the crew and young luffy were unaware of her devil fruit because she had ate it before she was adopted. Great film!
and why someone who ate the Uta-uta no me would be named *insert long drum roll* Uta that being said, if its not her being a baby. then Shanks is directly at fault for atleast 3 seperate people eating Devil fruits
Luffy does say "So that's why people always fall asleep when she used to sing" The movie even shows Luffy falling asleep mid flashback once kid uta starts singing
Watched the movie in 4DX and actually found it really good, my favourite part being commander Coby doing his thing and the fact that Uta was genuinely relatable in the sense that she simply became a villain because of her own misunderstanding as a child rather than a stupid reason like her parents dying
I loved Film Red, but right after Uta told everyone that she wants to have her concert go on forever where no one has to starve or suffers ever again, my brain went to Madara and the Mugen Tsukuyomi and after it was revealed that it's exactly the same technique I thought about how Madara didn't know about Kaguya and summoned her by accident... And then Uta summons her own world ending monster. I was kinda pissed that I knew how the movie would go before I saw what would happen
It's funny you mention that, I haven't seen the movie yet but I had a feeling it was something like that when her devil fruit was posted on the one piece wiki, it's because of that, that I'm not interested in seeing it anymore.
I feel Uta's journey saved this movie for me. Yeah, we initially think her motivation is revenge on Shanks for destroying Elegia (which sounds like an amalgomation of the words Elegy & Elysium), but we eventually learn it's her frustration exacerbated by Wake Shrooms because Shanks left her behind, alone. That & the guilt at learning she was the vessal for Tot Musica's Demon King compelled her to act rather than sympathy for the suffering of her fans. All throughout the movie, Uta's motivations & actions remain consistent even as her backstory seemingly changes. They're still twists, but they're the best kind as they can be puzzled out. This makes Red possibly one of the most rewatchable movies in One Piece.
Right. Because it makes sense that you would commit mass genocide because of guilt and loneliness. Don't forget that she made her plan before eating Wake-mushrooms. She had to announce her event, set-up the streaming, train for it and get the hidden Tot Musica before trapping everyone in her dream.
@@EldeNice When I mentioned her guilt, it was from when Tot Musica used her when she was a child. She didn't learn about her unwitting role in that event until after she found the video denden mushi & before she started sending out videos of her music. Ergo, hee primary motivation for reaching out was guilt, and the concert to ease the suffering of her fans was just a way to atone in her own way. This is reinforced later when her fans want to leave. If she cared about their desire for control over their lives then she would have obliged. However, doing so wouldn't atone for the lives lost when Tot Musica first got out, so she denied them & plunged her dream world into a nightmare. I also wouldn't call what she was rrying to accomplish as Genocide. Her plan was to send people to a dream world free of hunger, pain, & loss, & they would have continued on in that world even after she'd gone.
@@IamMeHere2See I get what you mean, but in effect it is genocide and her motivation makes absolutely no sense. What makes even less sense is Shanks abandonning her alone with some guy he just met after she killed all his friends and family. It's really shit writing on all levels.
@@EldeNice I'm enjoying this discussion. While I can see her actions categorically as genocide, in practice they don't stack as such. Everyone she takes into her dream world will continue to accrue new experiences and not suffer from deprevation or predation. The only caveat is that their bodies in the One Piece world will die, but their dream bodies seem to function exactly the same. They're able to bleed, and that implies the possibility of death. The biggest moral quandry for Uta's plan is the lack of choice for people to leave. For example, if your conciousness was uploaded to a Matrix-like construct, then you're trapped however much freedom you have in the construct. But even if your body died, if you lived on in the Matrix then you wouldn't be dead. In that sense, Uta's guilty of mass incarceration & kidnapping, but I wouldn't say genocide. I also find Uta's motivation pretty straight-forward. She learned that she played an unwitting part in the massacre of an island, and she wanted to alleviate that guilt by saving people from the problems of the world they lamented over on the Snail network. She hid her intentions under the veneer of selflessness, but her motivations were definitively selfish. As for why Shanks left her, I feel that was a bad decision brought on by writing contrivance. Were the Marines really so close? Couldn't he have swung back around to pick her up after a couple months, or a year at most? Sent an innocuous-looking letter? Yeah, the Shanks setup was very contrived. But I know people who double-down on bad decisions with the hope of not letting things potentially get worse, so I at least understand what they were trying to do.
I still think my favorite thing in the whole movie was seeing Koby take charge in saving people. It really shows how he took the role of the hero for the marines. Koby is still one of my favorite character and I did love the inclusion of Bluno. Love that bull boy.
I like your idea of having exclusively Luffy in the movie out of the crew, but I think having Usopp there too would’ve worked, maybe give him a scene with Uta where they talk about their fathers and their crew. Maybe have Usopp tell her that even if they abandoned her, she at least got her chance to go on those adventures with her dad while he didn’t. It fails and brings out Tot Musica. Then when that doesn’t work the entire alliance shows up, starting the final fight.
The best moments for me, was seeing the strawhats give complete trust to let Coby take command, even nami nominating him for it. We also get to see the matchups of the strawhats vs the red hair pirates, and how similar the crews are to each other. This makes me that perhaps shanks will be the true final enemy for Luffy, rather than Blackbeard, who will just cause the largest war.
My theory on what Tot Musica is that its a combination of the Soul Fruit and the Music Fruit as in a former user of the Soul Fruit transformed something summoned with the Music Fruit into a Homie with A LOT of Lifeforce. this would explain its connection/dependency to the music fruit but also why it stayed alive after the former users died because the homies seem to also stay after the users death. Edit also its design seems to be fitting as a homie and it ties into big mom wanting to catch uta (apart of big moms collection addiction)
Now Big mom wanting Uta is interesting now that you mention it since Big mom is interested in different races, and Uta is a human. Big mom already has one in her family, doesn't she?
One thing I'd like to add is that from what I understood, Uta was driving herself crazy with the use of the mushroom (Sanji mentioned something like that on the side effects). So Uta ended up going crazy after the shock of Shanks arriving and people wanting to go back home rejecting the "freedom" concept that Uta was proposing. And of course, the solution was to summon that two-dimensional monster lmao
Also I love the ending credits with showing everyone the straw hats met and how and what they were doing. Most of all showing our ghost girl Perona flying. Truly adorable they put her in their at the end. I laughed at that because I didn’t expect it, but loved it all the same.
Uta's power kinda reminded me of Madara Uchiha's infinite tsukuyomi plan. Movie was pretty cool. Music was fantastic. Usopp and his Dad was definitely a highlight for me. Really wanted to see a bit more of the Red Hair Pirates in action but the action overall was pretty cool.
Finished watching it two hours ago and gonna rewatch it with some friends in a couple hours. It's now my third favorite One Piece movie behind Film Z and Baron Omatsuri. Highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet
RE: how they got rid of Tot Musica the first time. The movie has a scene where they said it went away when Uta fell asleep/passed out because she was so young/weak. Whether that's a cop out or not is up to you. I think the coolest part of the movie though was seeing all of the Red Haired Pirate's signature move. IIRC we haven't seen that before, Lucky Roux turning himself into a bowling ball and Gab shooting a laser from his mouth was epic to see.
I was also thinking Kalifa’s inclusion was odd, but I think I understand the reasoning behind the decision. Blueno plays a not-insignificant part in the film, and Kalifa is there to show us that Blueno is *not* in CP0 like Lucci and Kaku so we shouldn’t be expecting to see more of him. Kalifa was the weakest fighter in CP9, so we can safely say she probably didn’t get into CP0 with Lucci and Kaku, so if she was assigned to the Uta mission along with Blueno, it’s safe to say they’re both still just CP9.
I can answer one of your questions. How did the Red Hair Pirates beat the demon the first time. It's explained. Uta was young and not on shrooms, so quickly fell asleep and the demon vanished when she lost consciousness. Shanks specifically says so. He didn't beat the demon, he just fended it off until Uta passed out.
There was a small but interesting part of the movie where blueno recognized coby as a member of sword. It's gives some interesting discussion on if sword is less of a secret organization then we thought or perhaps just something exclusive to the movie and not Canon
Your favorite is film Z? I just never could get over the plot hole of the main bad guy's weakness is that he's gotten too old, but his second in command has the power to make you 12 years younger with each touch. It's honestly a huge plot hole never addressed. He should be in his prime, or at least give us a scene where he is too proud to be made younger or something.
@@canaldoekl7318 1) nobody said they didn't like the movie, don't make things up you want to hear. I said I could never get over the giant crater of a plot hole, that itches the back of my mind and taints the movie. 2) If it is repeatedly pointed out that the main weakness of your antagonist is his old age, and his second-in-command can fix it with a couple of pokes, it seriously needs to be addressed. 3) This isn't a "Couldn't this devil fruit power have worked better and changed the situation in a group of many antagonists/protagonist fighting." It's literally the second in command's main ability standing next to the main antagonist's main weakness, throughout the course of the film. By Comparison. It would be like if at Marineford they reveal that Whitebeard's power was that he can instantly teleport people wherever in the world he wants regardless of distance from the target, showcasing that it works even if the target has sea prism stone handcuffs, and never address why he doesn't use it on Ace. Yea, that would kind of ruin Marineford a bit.
@@canaldoekl7318 I'm not 100% sure what scene you are talking about, but First off, armament Haki before the time skip wasn't showcased with black color, when it happened it just happened. So it's very possible haki was being used all over without anyone knowing it. Amazon Lily's arc had tons of this happening along with the Sabody arc before it. Secondly, I don't recall Kizaru being a major issue that the Whitebeard pirates couldn't handle. It's not like, for example, Akainu couldn't be stopped doing what he did to Ace at all because he was a logia, and nobody had a way of stopping logias. They shut down the admiral's plenty. Again, I'm not sure what scene you are referring to, but it is the huge difference of "oh something should have/could have gone a bit differently here given what we know now" kind of plot hole, vs. "the entire plot kind of collapses because of this very obvious, in your face, showcased multiple times thing" kind of plot hole. Let's take it to another verse: You're complaining about why Superman doesn't just beat up everyone at super speed during a Justice League fight. (It's obviously more fun to see all the members in action) I'm complaining that they introduce a new superhero to the team called the kryptonite man, his power being that he can become living kryptonite. They showcase that it can be used for him to easily defeat Superman. Then he ends up meeting the main antagonist General Zod, and proceeds to try to fight him without ever using the superpower during the entire fight, with no explanation as to why.
The thing I love the most about this show is it's a guide to friendship that many people need in the 2020s. Everyone is divided about everything now. We need to be more like the Straw Hats. Cautiously optimistic and willing to give others a chance. They go into most situations and allow people to show them who they really are and then go from there. Size, shape, race, nationality... none of these things matter when you truly make a friend. True friends can go for decades and still be strong. I am blessed with a few true friends at 52 and my One Piece would be a place to share with the people (and animals) I love.
After watching the movie I felt so drained in a good way. Uta is such a likeable and tragic character. She genuinely wants to help make the world better but her sheltered upbringing and the sad truth of reality leads her to all but kill herself to see it carried through. Oda truly is masterful.
My take on Tot Musica was that it was created by a previous user of the sing sing fruit that had awakened the fruit. So in theory if Uta had awakened the fruit she could create a different musical piece that creates something different.
I really had a blast with this. The music really hit hard in the theater. And Uta's story just worked for me quite well. Whole thing kept me invested until the end. Great way to spend an afternoon.
I loved that Uta was a no-holds-bar tragic villain. I actually did not think she would be that from her design and the trailers, but I was pleasantly wrong. When I saw the movie, I wanted to know what Shanks apparently had done too Uta and Elegia. Then the first flashback came, and I knew there was more to it. I then saw the truth, and the movie kinda lost me. It felt like it undercut the tragedy and her agency while conveniently absolving her of guilt, all because of a random song demon and Shanks' great lie. But then we found out that Uta knew the hole truth and still executed her plan/hated Shanks for breaking her heart, lying to her and leaving her almost alone for 12 years. I loved it so much, because that made her so much more awesome as a tragic villain. Tot Musica was the weakest point in the movie, but it was not a deal breaker for me, and I think she used it because her enemies in both worlds were pushing her up in a corner. Besides, she was on mushrooms at that time (hardcore btw), which messed with her logic. She knew the consequences of consumption, but did it anyway because of her saviour plan/complex. Spoiler! And then she died to sing people out of her dream world after getting closure with Shanks and Luffy! It was amazing! Uta was and amazing character and hardcore tragic villain to me. (I had hoped that Shanks would have apologized to Uta for his lie, but I guess it did not matter in the end).
I like how odyssey feels like a "lost arc" instead of trying to retell for the 100th time. Also, losing his straw hat is interesting stakes I'm surprised we've never seen.
The final fight scene was incredible, great choreography and everyone got to shine! As a big fan of Katakuri and Sanji I really loved their moment in the fight, but the Shanks/Luffy combo was sublime
It was incredible, so beautiful and just an amazing original One Piece story, bringing the Red Haired and Straw Hat pirates together without them actually meeting was genius and so fucking coooool!!!
First time seeing a One Piece (or any anime movie) in a theater! And my GF who I forced to come with me actually had a really great time! Was very surprised by how amazing the soundtrack was, especially with the context of the scenes on top of it~ also, congrats on the Odyssey sponsor! Pre-ordered through your link 💪
Thanks! Just saw the film and what a blast. Uta is now one of my favorite characters. As for the rest Top Musica is probably the devil from which Uta's devil fruit actually powers exist. Its powers taken from it via separation of its lineage factor then given to her. With the being then later calling back that which was once apart of it. And additionally like the secret behind Luffy's Devil Fruit guided to Uta specifically. As for beating Top Musica the first time. They probably didn't. In the movie the ruins actually offer no solution as to how its defeated other than it ran out of steam. Simultaneously attacking Uta was a plan they came up with on the fly
I got two thoughts to share 1. They somehow compilied most of the Naruto story into 2 hour movie. 2. Katakuri is like Dominic Torreto in this movie. I imagine that he just drove mochi Charger Kuzan's style to Elegia while eating donuts.
Just got home from watching this movie in theaters and am so glad I did. Highly recommend seeing it subbed in theaters if you can. It's entertaining and has one of the best sound tracks of any movie I've seen.
This was so good! I don't think someone new to the series or who isn't caught up with the manga would get that much out if it, but for someone already invested in the series this was a pure sugar rush. So many great moments for individual characters. And the Red Hair pirates are so cool!!! I'm actually kind of dreading the endgame of the series because Shanks has a huge death flag flying, and I'm low key anxious about watching that.
I have a headcanon for the film. Bepo isn't the massive Uta fan, it's Law. Also Tot Musicia is a great song, wasn't the song and the demon created by the previous user of the sing sing fruit? I don't know what my favorite song was though, I keep going to Tot Musicia, the feeling of the bass and everything while hearing it in the theater, the song felt like this presence bearing down on you just like the demon was to the characters. Backlit is also so good, as it fleeting lullaby. New genesis is also really good, like you said. All of these are, and the other Uta songs, are on my kinda everything playlist. I'm working I'll out the Playlist on, I'm mowing the grass I'll put the Playlist on (well not right now as grass doesn't really need mowed this time of year), I'm walking I'll put it on, anything really. Also I know i don't think it was the movie but the Uta version of Bink's Sake was is pretty cool
simple, they just have this DBZ fighting minded, where everything should be a flashy fighting scene and the fuck with the story... and i notice some of them take highly on stampede movie, because, well stampede movie is kinda like a DBZ movie.. boring villain with a lot of flashy fight
Usopp: “Dad..??” Finally!!!! Fuck, I can’t wait for them to meet and talk about all their adventures. Gonna be so dope. (They didn’t technically beat it the first time. Gordon or Shanks said they only won because she passed out from fatigue because she was still young.)
I just wish they showed Luffy’s transition from bound-man to snake-man to gear fifth. There were a lot of flashy moves happening simultaneously but all of a sudden Luffy was in gear 5th and I was like huh?
There was one song that felt kinda almost punk rock when Uta started to lose it and it was soooo good. I thought the first song was going to be my fav because I already heard it but damn the music was brilliant throughout. Fun movie experience for sure.
I love love love one of the final scenes when Shanks recalls first finding Uta in the treasure box. And having that brief but SOOOO powerful moment where she reminds him of the first time he saw Rayleigh and Roger on their ship. The look Roger gave him when realizing a kid was on the ship was incredible. I don't think we knew how Shanks arrived on Roger's ship (if it was in the Roger flashback, forgive me cause it's been a while), so if this part is canon, that would be amazing!
wasn't the first time it was defeated because Uta just fell asleep? and the problem in this film was that she was not going to sleep, but die, thus the getting everyone stuck in there? I do agree with everything else you said, there are quite a few unanswered questions and things that were done "because plot device and not enough time to think about that", but it was very well produced overall imo and OMG that moment with Usopp and his father communicating I started being REALLY excited and paid closer attention it was truly THE highlight of the movie for me!
I saw this last night, and I have to say that this is now my second favorite of the One Piece films to me nothing still tops Z. Either way the visuals were stunning, the songs were fun and I like we got a film that dived into Luffy's personal history.
I started reading the one piece manga about a year ago now, and this is the first movie that has come out while I have been a one piece fan. It definitely wasn't perfect, but it will always hold a really special place in my heart. I do wish we got Uta singing binks' sake though.
You can find her cover of Binks' Sake on youtube, so it exists. I haven't watched Film RED myself, but I'm guessing the cover doesn't appear in the movie?
They technically didn't beat top musica the first time because Uta wasnt strong enough and passed out it disappeared. That's why she was eating the mushrooms to stay awake.
Came into the movie because of an Ado and One Piece collaboration. Came out with an amazing experience. The art, music, visuals EVERYTHING was just stunning an amazing. I loved it!
I made sure to look at my watch when Shanks and the RH pirates fully appeared and joined the story (not just in flashbacks), and it was when the film had 45 mins left. Very satisfying that you got to see them for the while 45. The exchange between Uta and Luffy at the end where Luffy is stone faced while Uta is all happy broke me a little. Luffy's like "ugh this dead sibling shit again"
They beat Tot Musica the first time because Uta fell asleep. They said that. She didn't have the stamina, so she fell asleep. Either that severed the connection to the dream world, allowing them to defeat Tot Musica in a temporary sense, or that just banished it altogether. She couldn't fall asleep this time because of the mushrooms
@@aneonfoxtribute like when robin read from the roof about how tot musica was defeated before the hieroglyphs looks old as hell. Meaning before Uta as a kis someone else defeated Tot Musica
@@TheAnimenia Yeah. Uta isn't the first person to summon Tot Musica. Someone did it a long time ago, that's why the song was sealed away. We don't know enough about Tot Musica to determine how it was defeated in that initial summoning.
Went and saw it yesterday. I agree with almost everything you said here. Backlight, fleeting lullaby, and tot musica were my favorite. I just wished tot musica was more audible like how new genesis and I'm invincible were. There was just so much going on that the song was played more as background music than a part of her performance. I got my coworker into one piece and she's manga only and is caught up but her 6/7 year old daughter got into one piece thanks to Netflix unbeknownst to my coworker until she got to alabasta arc. I think the kid only has seen what Netflix has available here in the states for the dubbed version which i think is only up to ep 325. But she's seen all the movies available on Netflix as well which is strong world film z and not sure what else. She's too young to care about spoilers. Lol. But they went to see the movie today (dubbed obv for the kid) and I texted her to see how it went and they both loved the movie. With a side note of "sunny was cute" lol 😆
Having watched the movie last night, I think that Uta's story could have done without the reveal that she knew about how she destroyed the island. If we want to keep the idea that Tot Musica is a demon summoned by that specific song, the better way of handling it might have been that when she is told she destroyed the island it sends her into a deep depression and she suddenly feels that her music can't bring happiness, and she sees the only possible option as just unleashing Tot Musica again in destruction. If she can't save anyone with her singing, she can only hope that Tot Musica destroys it all.
I mean, the reveal of her accidentally destroying the island made things worse from her own perspective. She has a truth that she can't reveal without her fans hating her, and those fans have even more valid reasons to hate pirates than she did.
But her finding on her own is what set her down the wrong path along with Shank’s departure. She was a kid who wanted to make up for the deaths she blames on herself. She felt like it was her responsibility to make people happy. It further strengthens her motivations because she was very intent with her plan mind you.
Great movie, that maybe if this film had been released 10 years ago, I would hate it, but after watching Idols animes (Love Live, Idolmaster, etc) I really loved it. And besides that the crazy Uta's faces when she lost the control. 8.5/10 Rest in pepperoni, beloved Uta.
Spoilers about GRL's comment on about how beat the bad guy initially, In regards to how they beat Tot Musica initially, They said that Uta did eventually get tired and fell asleep which disengages the devil fruit effect.
Literally regret I watched it. Uta was the main reason why the movie was so trash. The only good thing was when got some Shanks action or about his Crew. I literally liked every single One Piece Movie more than this. Without Uta this Movie could have been good I feel like. The people in the cinema even started complaining when she sang over and over. Laughed my ass off
Yeah in my opinion this is my favorite One piece movie, but probably also one of my new favorite movies of all time. It just hit my emotions in a way that none of the other movies did, and the solemn feeling behind just made it feel special to me. Also God bless Ado for being in this movie.
Just seen it last night. 8/10 for sure. I almost teared up at the end tbh. When Uta put the hat back on, that subtle tear from Luffy is what almost got me lol. Shanks tho 🙌
Yeah. It was the most impresionant scene in the movie cause it's a little "big" spoiler. At least i remember roger saying they got babies in the ship, but even if the most popular theory is shaks/buggy being that/those baby/babies, it was never confirmed
Just seen the movie it’s ok a little underwhelming but the ending was cool bringing everyone together and seeing shanks go crazy with the haki, I’ll give it a 6/10.
They explain in the movie how they defeated tot musica the first time: Uta fell asleep because she was a young child who go tired out Only now she can't fall asleep because of the mushrooms
Red is incredible! The music is good, the story is surprisingly emotional, and the fights pull some big surprises. If you’re a god d ussop fan you will be cheering.
Tbh I would like to see them put Uta in canon story since we see her silhouette in a manga chapter for one panel. So I would like just a small piece of story for her with different ending. It didnt get me to tears but i have and understanding of what Shanks and his crew were feeling in that final scene. Wish it could end different in a canon storyline.
The first time Tot Musica appeared, Shanks and his crew was able to stall it long enough for Uta to tire out and fall asleep. Been waiting for your review for soooo long!!! (Now we just need all three of you to talk about film RED in the Blue Banana Podcast) I think that film RED, more so than anything is a great experience. But the narrative of the story has holes that you just have to look past. They aren't big ones, but those that make you think about them for a long time. Great review tho!
I am so jealous to anyone that gets to see this in theaters. I have no theaters near that have it… Means I’m stuck waiting till home media release next year…
An interesting detail, that I wanna point out, having examined 'Tota Musica' and specifically it's runes When you break it down, the song is invoking the power of Odin, with things like Ansuz being the rune representing him, and runes like Kenza and Halagaz paired with it having the potential to be refering to his status as either the allfather in Halagaz, or his status as a god of wisdom in Kenza. She's calling the power and wisdom of odin to strike down her foes, grant her victory and send her on a cosmic journey... so.... uh yeah... guess that demon isn't actually a demon. It could easily be a joutun
I would've prefered a slight twist on the Nika fruit for Uta's powers. Something along the lines of "Uta has the Mythical Zoan Hito Hito no mi Model *insert deity name*", either by having her straight up have that fruit or by having the world government change the name of this one as well. This would've opened the possibility for Tot Music to be a direct creation of that fruit in ancient times, and they could've played the whole "Mythical Zoan fruits tend to have a will of theyr own" to give more credibility to stuff like "what's the music sheet in the first place", "why did Uta sing it", "why did Gordon not throw it away" and so on. This would've been kinda repetitive for manga readers but it would've also been better IMO, and for anime watchers it would've been cool (but kinda heavy) foreshadowing. And i do mean better, i like this movie a lot but the plot kinda boils down to "Shanks and crew went to music kingdom for some reason, Uta accidentally unleashed hell because some powerful demon was sealed just there and her fruit happens to be the only key to unleash it and killed everyone, Shanks took the blame and left, Gordon decided for some reason to keep the music sheet and Uta kinda did stuff". Also the galaxy brain "Uta knew all along" plot twist doesn't really work on first view but it makes sense in retrospect when you realize you are looking at an immature girl who grew up alone with a guy that was trying to raise her and YET it doesn't explain why she would summon Tot Music. Mushrooms made her crazey sounds much worse than "her DF is subconsciously making her unleash it's own creation", just saying xD
Just saw Film Red and it felt like the recent chapter and some of the movie fight scene had some weird overlap. Aside from that.... The credits actually showing us some cover stories was great. The fact that this was a movie where Luffy didn't have this 1 on 1 fight with a main villain who is his old legend is very refreshing. Hell, Luffy never landed a single punch on Uta. They also basically made Uta the MC of the movie and Luffy himself is just a side character. If you don't like Uta, a big chunk of the movie will probably not click as well. While we did not get anything insane about Shank's crew, just Usopp and Yasopp interacting for the first time was a small " Holy shit" moment. Also, one of the crewmember can fire some kamehameha out his mouth. That's interesting. Another Holy shit moment is gear 5 actually being animated. I thought since this movie was in production well before that revelation, we would stick with just Snakeman but nope. it was very brief but still incredibly hype. I recall reading that Shanks can stop Future sight with his haki but I never noticed that. That was either just a flat out lie or some crazy specluation from just looking at leaks. All of Uta's song were really good, Especially the 3rd one( might be called world's continuation?) and Tot Musica. They really needed an amazing singer and Ado brought that in spades. This entire movie can honestly be fully canon because we do have a nice gap in time between Wano and Egghead to fit this in. They did leave what happens to Uta very ambiguous at the end. I wouldn't be surprised if she just shows up with Shanks when Luffy finally meet him.
SPOILERS!!! I wouldn't say that we have a 'nice' gap between egghead and wano. Things actual moved really quickly with the strawhats catching up with global affairs (wanted posters, sabo etc.) followed by bonney introduction. Idk I just don't think the film red arc will fit nicely, especially considering that shanks said he's going after the one piece/Bartolomeo in the last few chapters. Any lastly like someone said before uta being shanks' 'daughter' would never be revealed in a movie that most fans may not even watch so yeah
But I agree, uta being the main character was pretty interesting/refreshing and the soundtrack was amazing too with ado at the vocals. I enjoyed the insight into shanks crew, although more insight could of been provided on shanks himself, and usopp stepping up at the end was pretty cool too. Decent movie!
They beat Tot Musica the first time because Uta was young and passed out, she didn’t have the stamina to keep it going and wasn’t eating the wakeshrooms.

When brulee stopped fighting and just fell on her brothers arms was so cuteeee

Oven was the same way. He didn’t care what happened to himself he just wanted Brûlée to be safe😢 The triplets seem to have favorite sibling.
For a second I thought that Oda had him say ‘I’m here for my sister’ referring to Uta and that Kat was actually also Shanks son but then I remember shanks was a baby when big mom was hot.
Branch understands and respects him more than anyone else.
I kind of wish Brook had more involvement in the movie, since ya'know, music is like his thing.
That is probably my only thing I wish they had more of. Other than that, it was simply amazing
Definitely my biggest gripe as well
This Uta didn't grow on me for this instance...Nerfing the Soul King was ludicrous.....
I wish EVERYONE had more of a role. There are WAAAAAAY to many of them in this movie.

Although, that might’ve been hoping for too much considering most of Strawhats themselves didn’t do much fighting either 😅
He didn’t take command though, which I think is cooler. Nami commanded him to lead 😂

One thing I'm surprised you didn't bring up is when Shanks found Uta in the treasure chest he had a flashback of Roger and his crew looking at what I assume is Shanks, looking at him in a similar way. He mentioned this in his One Piece 4 Billion video
@@animatry7410 I did not know he talked about that in a previous video but it was still worth mentioning here.

I liked how at one point they stated at the beginning that, "The Navy's Bad but look at what the pirates do"

I just love how Luffy goes from Gear 4 Boundman to Snakeman, and then to Gear 5 in a matter of seconds.
Shanks conqueror's haki scene was so badass
It was cool is hell
The fact that you were sponsored by an official one piece game is amazing. That’s an achievement to be proud of, liam.
Watched it yesterday, the film was totally underwhelming for me. But I loved the few Shanks fight scenes...
Edit also its design seems to be fitting as a homie and it ties into big mom wanting to catch uta (apart of big moms collection addiction)
itd be cool if it was explained as a creation of an awakened user of the sing sing fruit
I like how Uta being in Luffy's life could be the main reason why he wanted a musician in the beginning of his journey
Yeah, hope Uta is canon so we can see how she affects the plot
Kalifa was the weakest fighter in CP9, so we can safely say she probably didn’t get into CP0 with Lucci and Kaku, so if she was assigned to the Uta mission along with Blueno, it’s safe to say they’re both still just CP9.
its confirmed that they're both cp0, but in a different league of cp0
Loved that Haki blast from Shanks and seeing Fujitora sheathing his sword while saying “we should stand down.” Lmfao

You know what...I never thought about that lmao wtf
So you don't like the movie just because of this? If this is the case I hate marineford
@@canaldoekl7318
1) nobody said they didn't like the movie, don't make things up you want to hear.
@@reilen4359 explain me why whitebeard didn't used haki against kizaru
Let's take it to another verse:
You're complaining about why Superman doesn't just beat up everyone at super speed during a Justice League fight. (It's obviously more fun to see all the members in action)
I'm complaining that they introduce a new superhero to the team called the kryptonite man, his power being that he can become living kryptonite.
Oda truly is masterful.
her actions are understandable and noble but her plan was essentially trading one cage for a different cage
9:23 I believe gordon said the first time they fought tot musica the only reason they won was because of uta being young and exhausting herself.
My take on Tot Musica was that it was created by a previous user of the sing sing fruit that had awakened the fruit. So in theory if Uta had awakened the fruit she could create a different musical piece that creates something different.
I loved how the first song started with a splash and a massive holographic birdcage engulfing the crowd. Visual storytelling, folks! It's sweet!

I got two thoughts to share
1. They somehow compilied most of the Naruto story into 2 hour movie.
2. Katakuri is like Dominic Torreto in this movie. I imagine that he just drove mochi Charger Kuzan's style to Elegia while eating donuts.
He eating donuts and sipping coffee at the barbeque in the secret credits lol
Just got home from watching this movie in theaters and am so glad I did. Highly recommend seeing it subbed in theaters if you can.
It's entertaining and has one of the best sound tracks of any movie I've seen.
I saw it tonight it was great
I saw it subbed earlier this afternoon. I was sad that me and a family of 3 were the only ones in that theater
I can't understand how some people don't like the musical aspect of this movie. It's great.
simple, they just have this DBZ fighting minded, where everything should be a flashy fighting scene and the fuck with the story... and i notice some of them take highly on stampede movie, because, well stampede movie is kinda like a DBZ movie.. boring villain with a lot of flashy fight
For the same reason I dont watch High School Musical... there were too many freaking songs
Usopp: “Dad..??”
Finally!!!! Fuck, I can’t wait for them to meet and talk about all their adventures. Gonna be so dope.
(They didn’t technically beat it the first time. Gordon or Shanks said they only won because she passed out from fatigue because she was still young.)
I wanted to cry during that scene but then I would've peed my pants.
I know exactly what song you mean and i couldn't agree more that song is an absolute banger!
@@Tobi-hq3xe instant add to the playlist, had me ready to jump out my seat and start rocking.
@@spencercarroll8886 dude exactly! I literally sat there in the cinema mouth open and chills down my spine when that song came up it was perfect.
@@Mylstrydr it doesn't... I was hoping that it would show up in the movie, since it is available.
That's right...the weakness of Sing Sing fruit depends on its user ability to stay awake.
why did the ruins look so damn ancient then?
@@TheAnimenia What do you mean?
The best moment imo, is when katakuri try to explain adv obs haki to shanks. But shank is like:"boy i already know that".
This was my first time since starting the series that I have seen a movie in theaters and I loved every minute of it.
Not to mention that like Luffy said, Shanks destroying Elegia for no reason was very uncharacteristic.
Great movie, that maybe if this film had been released 10 years ago, I would hate it, but after watching Idols animes (Love Live, Idolmaster, etc) I really loved it. And besides that the crazy Uta's faces when she lost the control. 8.5/10
Rest in pepperoni, beloved Uta.
Spoilers about GRL's comment on about how beat the bad guy initially,
In regards to how they beat Tot Musica initially, They said that Uta did eventually get tired and fell asleep which disengages the devil fruit effect.
What makes me wonder the most is how Roger found shanks the same way that Shanks found Uta.
I’m pretty sure it’s now confirmed they found shanks in a chest after the God Valley incident
They explain in the movie how they defeated tot musica the first time: Uta fell asleep because she was a young child who go tired out
Only now she can't fall asleep because of the mushrooms
Conquerors haki: 💤 💤 💤
After revealing that her singing puts people to sleep I just figured Uta is a human Jigglypuff😂
Hell no Her sing sing fruit is dummy overpowered on the point where she can beat joyboy roger and imu.
She might actually have the best df but didn’t usually it correctly like law too
@@Froku407 Oda can always nerf her
@The Nose Picker please no 😔
The first time Tot Musica appeared, Shanks and his crew was able to stall it long enough for Uta to tire out and fall asleep.
Been waiting for your review for soooo long!!! (Now we just need all three of you to talk about film RED in the Blue Banana Podcast)
I think that film RED, more so than anything is a great experience. But the narrative of the story has holes that you just have to look past. They aren't big ones, but those that make you think about them for a long time.
Great review tho!
I am so jealous to anyone that gets to see this in theaters. I have no theaters near that have it…
Means I’m stuck waiting till home media release next year…

And Usoop wasn't the only hero as they all worked together but he did play an important part.
An interesting detail, that I wanna point out, having examined 'Tota Musica' and specifically it's runes
When you break it down, the song is invoking the power of Odin, with things like Ansuz being the rune representing him, and runes like Kenza and Halagaz paired with it having the potential to be refering to his status as either the allfather in Halagaz, or his status as a god of wisdom in Kenza.
I have been wanting a JRPG one piece game for over a decade. I'm so for this.
I loved when Sanji complimented brulee and brûlée started blushing
