    My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
    Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.

      Why? Shouldn't everyone make more than they do? And at what point is enough enough? Would you rather disabled people not be able to afford to have caretakers? Or should taxpayers pay more than we already do to pay for someone else's caretaker? This is the problem when feelings get in the way of logic.

      I agree, but it’s economics. Most people could be trained to be a caregiver in a few weeks, so they are easy to replace, and unfortunately that means salaries stay low.

      It's a shame. It's infuriating that disabled people and the elderly can barely get enough to survive and fight for home care. But people who choose to off themselves with food get everything. It's rewarding people who choose to not deal with themselves.

      I know first hand about this. I'm paralyzed from the waist down from a wreck and had medical coverage taken because I improved more than they say I should have so I was no longer disabled. Yet a friend was it on disability with in a month for being huge and not being "able" to work. I blame some of the doctors as well for approving and allowing them to get disability. Just because they know they will be getting a long term paycheck every month.

      I hear you! I was denied ss disability and had to appeal it. It took almost 3 years. When I appealed the denial, there was a guy who needed an interpreter and his file consisted of about 5 papers and was approved immediately. I, who had worked a full time, high paying job until I was gravely injured in a head on car accident with other physical and mental problems with a 4 inch thick medical file was denied until
      I was forced to see additional SS specific Dr's which took many more months! So very unjust! But people who are fat get disability fast with nothing else wrong with them aside from choosing to be obese!

      small difference between healthY and healtH at every size
      I do believe in Health at every size, one can be the fattest person in the world, but they can always do healthy changes to their lives and try to turn around
      HealthY at every size, however, is a myth. sure, the fattest person on earth is exercising and eating less junk, but they're still morbidly obese and will be for a few years, and they have permanently damaged their health after eating so much trash for so many years

    • @minawhiff
      @minawhiff 5 місяців тому +10

      The "health at any size" doesn't mean extremes. Obviously a grown person weighing 86lbs is not healthy nor is one weighing 600lbs but the idea is that a person CAN be outside of the "normal" range and still be healthy. There are very thin people who are not anorexic or nutrient deficient and there are fat people who don't have an eating disorder or any other medical issues. It's to encourage people to try and do what they can to be healthy even if their body doesn't look a certain way.

      Whether the caregivers are hired through an agency or are doing private home health, they are only doing what their client is asking for. Trust me, caregivers make very little money for what they do. They're definitely NOT doing it for the money. If they don't supply what the client wants, the client would just fire them and move on to the next. As a caregiver, they could offer healthier options or suggest them, but ultimately it's on the person they're working for. Family members are a different story. They can tell the person no

      What do you think most people do their jobs for, if not for money? And no buddy, most of these caregivers don't get paid that much. Do you also think a waitress in a restaurant can just refuse to bring certain people certain foods/amounts of food because they think they're too big? Because these caregivers have about the same amount of authority as a waitress. If the person isn't asking for anything illegal you can either do it/bring it to them or they'll fire you and find someone else who will do exactly that.

      Now people shove 8 bananas in a food processor with a pile of berries, a little protein powder, blend and think it is healthy.
