My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.
The people who enable their loved ones terrible eating habits are just as at fault. How can these families not realize they are half of the problem?
rich enabler, trophey
Some are "feeders". 😞😡
Since generally they have been fat since young children the family is probably most of the cause. Making your kids fat is child abuse.
Or the WHOLE problem?!
@@trientamakdismonedefinitely not the whole problem. The person has to take accountability for getting that big…
At 10:41 in the video, to answer you question, it's not a breakfast pie. It's a large thick slab of "bone-in country ham" and the bone fell through, which causes the hole. Also these are usually sold separately in a package to feed an entire family.
Yeah, I thought so. Last Thankgiving, my family and I brought a large ham home and look exactly like that. Also, I have no idea what a breakfast pie is.
It looked like a ham to me, too.
this is probably the healthiest part of her meal, excluding whatever preservatives and hormones might be present in the meat
@@taylorb2162 No, that kind of ham has a lot of sodium in normal portions. Who knows how much salt her slab contained?

It’s funny how they won’t go anywhere else but the grocery store 😂😂
😎
Right 😂
My red flag:
Watching these before I go get fast food with my friends
LOL I was feeling like eating some snacks but after watching this.. I'll stick to a can of tuna and a few celery sticks
Omg me too, my grapes are looking phenomenal right now.
Bananas and apples for me lol
@@Gig_Work_NowGrapes are full of sugar. But if you arent diabetic then not a problem 😂😂
I agree! I watch this several times a week to keep me from eating junk food!
I'd really like one of these programs to discuss money, where it comes from, how they afford the quantities of food and how much the weight loss operation is
They get the surgery covered by the programme.
They are the episode content, and they get the surgery.
They also get some cash on the side, and more if they do a shower scene.
However, burgers and crisps are cheap, so eating a lot of it isn't difficult
@@BoopSnootAndTroubleshoot TLC should pay for the surgery and also the excess skin removal for those who get to that stage.
Someone posted elsewhere that they are classed as disabled and therefore entitled to welfare and their family get paid to be their carers. So the money comes from your taxes.

Providing such amounts of food to someone who can't make it to the kitchen on their own should count as manslaughter.
At the very least, depraved indifference!
They can’t make the bathroom and even if they could it would be a total disaster
Exactly
@@DanChad-er9lhthis was unintentionally hilarious. I cannot get the picture of the disaster scene that bathroom would be iff’n these folks could get into them to destroy them. I’m talking like sept 12th 2001 midtown Manhattan levels of destruction.
Sept 11th, hence 911.
I've said aloud while watching show with fam if I'm ever in the overweight, non ambulatory category just serve me a five gallon bucket of salad mix, a 16oz bottle of ranch dressing everyday and close my bedroom door. What could I possibly do about that??
This is the only time ever in history where the poorest people are the fattest.
Most cheap food leads to obesity, so this is actually quite expected of the poor.
@@FordRangerClassicsyes but through out history only the wealthy were obese. The wealthy used to see gout as a badge of honor and would try to get it on purpose to show how much money they could spend on food unlike the skinny peasants who were skinny.
My food bill was 1/4 of what I pay now back before I switched to healthy (and gluten free because of celiac) options. Only reason I can afford it is I work from home, so I don't have to budget for gas. Spent $90 the other day and got a bag of tangerines, 1 apple, zucchini, a bag of carrots, a bag of salad, Hummus, tzatziki, feta cheese, low fat yogurt. Low fat sour cream, and low fat cottage cheese. I also grabbed a mio and 2 diet Pepsi for my sister.

Addiction is Hell. 😢 Nothing but compassion for everyone dealing with this illness. ❤
Well said ❤
I used to be obese, not his weight but I'm way shorter, and food really can feel addictive.
However Steven is definitely the exception
The ones who don't even try don't get my compassion because there are other obese people who would love to get Dr. Now's help.
Addiction is hard. I’ve just found myself dependent on alcohol unfortunately. It’s almost like a hole you can’t climb out of. It’s scary.
I have compassion for people who have to deal with the food abusers, and pay for them.
Tonight we have fish, rocket/spinach/lamb leaf salad with avocado, tomato, cucumber and diced red onion YUM!!! I use no fats, although we supplement with Flaxseed oil capsules. For every meal we either use salad or a selection of steamed vegetables. There is no way I could eat garbage like that. Our takeaway is a treat for a birthday or special occasion. I cannot understand that if you are dancing with death, food is more important to you.
I can't believe their enablers. If you love him, help him. But don't help him by getting him crap food.
They are all complaining how miserable their lives are. Not a single one tries to change their lives and pretend they are happy eating for ten.
Enough scrambled eggs to threaten the chicken population 💀💀💀
I wonder where these people would be if they got the therapy they needed for their trauma before getting to their size. There is just SO MUCH pain.
What a sad life. These people aren't living, they're just sucking up oxygen

This show makes me want to go to bed hungry
It should be illegal to feed someone to death.
Exactly! I know they have mental issues to be fixed, but their parents and relatives should give them strength to overcome their problems, not junk food to feed their stomach!
I'd be good & cussed out because I would bring nothing but salads, baked food & steamed veggies. If you want anything else you'll have to cook it
I eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast and a cup of orange juice. I dont understand how people eat these meals so many times a day. It really is an addiction.
It is also their high insulin levels that are causing them to feel hungry all the time. Eating protein and good fats with little amounts of carbs will help them to feel full.

When your shorts can double as a boat sail that should be a clue that you have a weight problem .
If I where running a healthcare program for people like this show covers, bearing in mind most cannot even get up, I would set-up some type of pulley system where they pull a rope for an hour to bring a burger within arms reach
Then have it rigged where just when the burger is barely in reach it gets pulled away again. 😂

Foodstamps and disability. American government rewards the lazy.
Whenever i feel hungry at night i watch these videos. Somehow it makes me don't want to be near food. My binge eating demons gotta go!
Shannon says she eats to escape all the things going on in her life. WTF.? She just stays home and eats, what drama is she dealing with? I know others have asked, but where are they getting the money for all of this food? I can’t help but-to think the producers give them some money and say go to town.
Common sense. Eat half as much as you normally eat and you'll lose weight.
But they don't see the amount they eat as anything but normal. The portions, in their eyes, are exactly what they "should" be, and even when shown what a normal portion is, they see theirs as being that.
It's a weird learned behavior, not something inherent to humans, and it has to be addressed before any weight loss can occur. Unfortunately, not even Dr. Nowzaradan got any psych docs involved (personally, I find them useless, but that's because I worked with so many in my 45 years in healthcare), so the people never got the mental debriefing they really needed.
Dude is so aggressive at the drive through. So impolite. Like a wild animal hunting.

That poor grocery cart was the little engine that could.
It may be hard to believe or understand but becoming big feels like it just suddenly creeped up on me.. but when you finally get to that point where whatever was affecting you stops becoming the reason… you will fight for your life to get back to what you were..my testimony
I hope and pray that all of these folks find the strength and power in themselves through God’s Holy Spirit to want to fight for their lives.

Hope things are going well for you and I pray God is with you in spirit and gives you strength to carry on. 😊
Donald at age 5 was 150lbs. He's was not working and most likely had no money to buy food for himself. So how was he putting on all this weight. Without the enablers there would be no show.
For the last woman saying food has taken her life for all these women it's always all about them and they have lots of excuses to feel sorry for themselves. They have taken their children's lives and instead of playing and having friends they are mother's helpers and mom just feels sorry for herself and say well thinking about that depresses me and I need to eat. They don't give a damn about their children if they did they would do everything they could to change.

Im sure everyone else has said this already, but you'll notice a common theme within all the lives of those bigguns. They all have people who enable their bad habits and they all have unresolved, untreated childhood trauma.. Plus a huge lack of personal responsibility for shoving all those carbs and calories into their bodies. Most people don't see it but this is a bit more prevalent in America than people think. All of them are living off of our tax dollars eating up those medicaid benefits, so there's nothing left for the rest of the people who need it. It's sickening.
I seriously wonder. What goes in must also come out. How big would those turds be?
This was my thought
First thing out of her mouth “Do you want to eat?” It would be would be criminal to overfeed up animal that much.
It seems these folks don't just eat a massive amount of food, but it's also deep fat fried foods.
Their enablers seem to know it's wrong, but it's their normal. It also seems some of the enablers are obese as well. They feed off of each others' habits.
They are craving good fats but land up eating fats that are not good for them.
GROSS...Can you Imagine how much their grocery cost.
No I can't
No doubt. Up until recently I would spend 100 and feed a family of five for a week. Now it's a bit more but these people are eating that in a day!
Food is in addiction just like a drug. A lot of these people have personal problems and issues in their life and the only thing they have is food. that’s the only thing that makes them feel good and food doesn’t judge them. Eating that much is an escape from the issues that they need to addressed. The narrator on this giggling and his comments as he’s talking is inappropriate.
Fat people always claim that, its nonsense.
I am full just looking at the size of their portions
Think of those suffering yet these folks get free home care are and massive amounts of food on disability and various other programs. Wow, most are one job loss away from losing cars, homes etc and they can sit in bed all day and eat
These family members are just helping them to get closer to god😂

Fact.
Lol. It's also inspiring to make changes in one's life to be healthier and not go down the same road as these people!
It’s funny that only when they reach 600 lbs do they consider their weight an issue
Speaking from experience, I can tell you that your statement is false. I made many attempts at weight loss before I finally lost the excess weight - 100 lbs.
It's a physical, mental, and emotional prospect that I struggled with for most of my life. The weight gain began in late childhood and has continued for most of my life. I am a compulsive overeater with impulse control problems. However, Weight Watchers and determination saved me. It took several attempts, but once I put their principles into effect the weight started coming off.
I also have to credit my co-workers at the time, and my family, for the support they gave me.
Let me reiterate that this is a mental, emotional and physical prospect. It is hard work to reeducate yourself, to change a lifetime of bad habits. There are good days, bad days, and days where nothing works, nothing goes right, and you simply throw in the towel. But, the next day, you begin again, because the end result, better health, a stronger , slimmer body, a healthier relationship with food, is worth the fight.
If you haven't experienced this, then your words are meaningless, and speak to your lack of compassion, and to your ignorance.
I noticed the mention of a not so pleasant childhood. As if to explain away all these issues by that one sentence. Sorry, I’m not buying that without any further explanation. If you’re going to insinuate or infer that the reason for these problems are because of some type of childhood trauma, then some of that can be explained and attributed to it, but just mentioning it is insufficient enough to support that reason. And if you were in so much pain that you spent the entire night on the floor, then you should’ve called for an ambulance along time ago. He couldn’t have been in that much pain to be able to last the entire night on the floor. Let’s call it what it is you fell down and couldn’t get back up to embarrassed to ask for help and instead make up a story that you’re somehow injured. If the injury is that bad then calling ambulance should’ve been done right away. A lot of what I see with these people is nothing short of narcissistic personality disorder. That and borderline personality disorder.
if an unhappy childhood made you gain weight I would be 30000 pounds. i think you are right about the personality disorders.
Gosh, I'm glad y'all had nice childhoods with no abuse ..
